THE LITTLE POPCORN STORE 105 YEARS IN 2026

As tiny as it may be, there is no missing this red-doored classic in the heart of Downtown Wheaton. The Little Popcorn Store has been a cherished landmark since 1921, operating out of a converted alleyway a few doors down from its permanent location, in 1935 — an upgrade that took the shop from 3.5-feet wide to a whopping 4-feet wide. Quirkily little but mighty in presence, the famous shop still serves the same simple popcorn recipe, as well as a rainbow assortment of sweets.

Wheaton, IL, was settled in 1831 by pioneers Erastus Gary and the Wheaton brothers before being formally incorporated as a village in 1859. Downtown Wheaton is home to some of the oldest businesses in Wheaton, which are still thriving today:

HOLSTEIN’S GARAGE 120 YEARS IN 2026

Holstein’s Garage is one of the oldest family-owned businesses in Downtown Wheaton and serves as the oldest repair shop in Wheaton. Operating since 1906, the family first came to Wheaton in 1892. From wagons, buggies, stage coaches and steam engines, Holstein’s Garage has been a community pillar, even housing cars in the 1920s, before houses commonly had garages of their own.
