Miller’s Pond

HELLO AGAIN!

After an incredible five-week paternity leave to welcome our beautiful baby girl, Kendall, into the world, I’m thrilled to be back at Doug Tarry Homes just in time for what we’re all hoping will be the long-awaited spring market kickoff. I must give a huge shoutout to the incredible midwives from Elgin County Midwives and the amazing team at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital (STEGH). Their compassionate, expert care made the experience unforgettable and truly special. It’s just one more reason I’m so proud and grateful to have made the move to St. Thomas—it’s a wonderful place to raise a family, with top-notch local healthcare right here in our community.

Now, with spring finally on the horizon, I’m more excited than ever to help you find the perfect place for your own family’s story. One of the best parts of living here? Being able to enjoy the incredible trails around Lake Margaret—literally steps away from our Miller’s Pond community. Whether it’s a peaceful walk, family outings, or just soaking in the natural beauty, it’s all part of what makes St. Thomas such a special spot to call home.

SNOWY START?

The start of 2026 has been unusually quiet in Ontario's real estate market—described by many as a record-slow beginning. According to the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA), national home sales dropped 5.8% month-over-month in January (and 16.2% compared to January 2025), with southern Ontario hit hardest by a massive winter storm that suppressed activity in key regions like the Greater Golden Horseshoe and Southwestern Ontario.

That's why now is the ideal time to act—and we're making it even easier with our limitedtime QP Inventory Promotion!!! Take advantage of significant savings on our Quick Possession homes before this offer ends at the close of March. Whether you're looking for immediate move-in readiness in a community like Miller's Pond or want to lock in today's conditions, these opportunities won't last long.

Here is just some of the fantastic MOVE IN READY inventory ready for you to save BIG! Be sure to visit our website for all available inventory or come say hi to me at the model home! The Most Meaningful Room You Haven’ t Finished Yet

When you first moved into your home, the unfinished basement likely felt full of possibility A blank canvas A future project . A “someday ” space.

For many families, that someday slowly becomes storage bins and holiday décor. But with thoughtful design, your lower level can become one of the most welcoming and hard-working spaces in your home.

Today ’s basements are no longer dark afterthoughts. When designed intentionally, they feel just as warm and connected as the main floor.

Designing for Real Life

Finishing your basement later has one major advantage clarity You now know how your family truly lives

Maybe you need a cozy rec room for movie nights A dedicated play space to keep toys contained A quiet home office A home gym Or a comfortable guest suite for visiting family

Because your home was designed with flexibility in mind, the lower level offers the perfect opportunity to create something that reflects this season of life

Making It Feel Like It Belongs

Small design details a feature wall , a modern fireplace, thoughtfully placed cabinetry transform the space from unfinished to unforgettable.

A basement isn’t just extra square footage. It ’s room to grow, gather, and unwind.

If your lower level is still waiting, consider this your reminder that it holds more potential than you think . And as part of our continued commitment to the homeowners we’ve built for, we’re pleased to now offer professionally designed basement renovations helping you complete your home with the same care and craftsmanship you’ve come to expect

Sometimes the most meaningful room in your home is simply the one that hasn’t been finished yet

Customer Care Team

A few maintenance reminders as we hopefully sprint towards spring after a long cold winter. Check the exterior of your home. With major snow melt and expected spring showers you want to ensure water is draining properly off and away from your home. All eaves and downspouts should be checked and cleared so water flows as designed. Late fall leaves can clog things up and you don’t want water backing up from it’s intended path. That’s when problems start. Check the exterior venting on your home, make sure any intake or exhaust vents are clear from debris that may have blown around.

Wash excess salt away from concrete surfaces including sidewalks, porches, driveways, and garage threshold. Best practice is to use concrete safe products, but sometimes these materials are brought in from the street. If salt is left on these surfaces, it will damage them over time.

Check all interior windowsills. Wipe them clean of any water and treat any mold if present. With the extreme low exterior temperatures this past winter, combined with humidity in the home, window condensation can be hard to avoid. This condensation can gather below the window and if not managed mold can grow. As always check the filters in your ERV (fresh air exchange) and your furnace. Clean and replace as needed. Attending to your homes regular maintenance will help you enjoy it for years to come!

Warm regards,

the Customer Care Team

ERV – ENERGY RECOVERY VENTILATORS

Doug Tarry Homes understands the importance of fresh air into the home. To ensure our homes are comfortable and healthy, a fresh air machine called an ERV is installed in every home.

ERV is a type of balanced ventilation system that exchanges stale indoor air with fresh outdoor air, while using a heat exchanger to transfer both heat and moisture between them. This process pre-conditions the incoming air, reducing the load on your heating and cooling systems and helps to maintain comfortable and healthy indoor humidity levels throughout the year.

How it works:

• Stale indoor air is pulled out of the home

• Fresh outdoor air is pulled into the home

• The two air streams pass through a core in the ERV, where heat and moisture transfer across a membrane without mixing

• The fresh air is now partially heated or cooled, and its humidity level is adjusted, making it more comfortable and efficient when it enters the home

Recipe of the Month

Marry Me Salmon

INGREDIENTS:

4 teaspoons Italian seasoning, divided

1-1/2 teaspoons salt, divided

1 teaspoon pepper, divided

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1 pound salmon fillets, skin-on

2 tablespoons olive oil

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

1 shallot, minced

2 garlic cloves, minced

1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

Directions

2 cups reduced-sodium vegetable broth

1/2 cup julienned oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes

1/2 cup heavy whipping cream

1/2 cup whole milk

4 ounces cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 package (8 ounces) frozen chopped spinach, thawed and squeezed dry

2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil leaves, plus more for garnish

1 cup cooked orzo pasta, optional

1. In a small bowl, combine 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning, 1 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon pepper and garlic powder. Coat salmon fillets with spice mixture.

2. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add salmon, skin-side down; cook until skin is crispy, 4-5 minutes. Flip; cook another 2-3 minutes or until salmon flakes easily with a fork and an instant-read thermometer inserted into the center of a filet reaches 145°. Remove to a plate; tent with foil to keep warm.

3. Reduce skillet heat to medium; add butter and shallot. Cook until shallot is softened, 3-5 minutes. Add garlic and crushed red pepper flakes; cook until fragrant, 30-60 seconds. Stir in flour; cook until lightly browned, 2-3 minutes.

4. Slowly whisk in broth; bring to a simmer. Add sun-dried tomatoes and the remaining 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning, 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper; cook until thickened, 4-5 minutes.

5. Stir in cream, milk, cream cheese, Parmesan, spinach and basil. Cook until the cream cheese has melted and the sauce is smooth, 2-3 minutes. Stir in cooked orzo, if using.

6. Return salmon to the skillet; cook until warmed through. Garnish with basil to serve.

A message from our President

As we move further into 2026, I find myself thinking a lot about first-time homebuyers.

For many, the dream of owning a home can feel more complex than it did years ago. Prices, interest rates, down payments, incentives, qualifications, timelines. It can feel like there are more questions than answers. And yet, what hasn’t changed is the desire to have a place to call your own.

Over the years, I’ve met countless families at the beginning of their homeownership journey. Some were excited and confident. Others were cautious and unsure. Almost all of them had the same concern: “Is now the right time?”

In 2026, the conversation is less about timing the market and more about being prepared and informed. There are programs available for first-time buyers. There are mortgage options designed to make entry into the market more achievable. And there are builders, like us, who understand that buying your first home requires guidance, transparency, and patience.

We recognize that this generation of first time buyers are informed. You’re researching. You’re comparing. You’re asking thoughtful questions about sustainability, monthly costs, and longterm value. That’s a good thing. A home is one of the most important investments you will make, and it should be approached with confidence.

If 2026 is the year you begin thinking seriously about homeownership, I encourage you to start the conversation. Ask questions, understand your options and explore what’s possible.

We are proud to be part of that journey for so many families, and we remain committed to helping the next generation of homeowners step forward with confidence.
