HOLIDAY 2025
PAST & PRESENT

W

e are all in on animal print. We spent the winter parading around in python bikers and cheetah dusters, but as we steer our style towards spring, it’s all about that hair-on-hide.
conic. Inimitable. A celebration of the American West. This collection is one we’ve been excited to debut since we first concepted it, and that eagerness amplified when we confirmed our collaboration with renowned artist, Maura Allen.
Animal print is everywhere at the moment, and you’d be hard-pressed to argue its universal appeal, from loungewear to luxury. While your first association with animal print may be on the exotic side (think jungle cats), there’s a whole other side that’s a little more suited to our style, particularly this Romance & Rustlers rodeo collection: cowhide.
It’s inherently Western. Without cows, there’s no such thing as cowgirls, right? It can work anywhere from uptown brunch to downtown date night, but it’s rodeo-ready right out of the gate.
The colors are strong and saturated, from rich wines to rodeo browns and the most extraordinary pop of poison coming to life in patent leather. We’re showcasing Maura Allen’s awe-inspiring artwork in stunning silks and suedes and signature prints. The silhouettes are unapologetic, whether it’s a sweeping caftan or a statement suit, a fringed pant or a full-volume fur. The whole collection is pulsing with an undercurrent of having a powerful presence.
The collection’s moniker is borrowed from Maura, who holds steadfast to the reality that who we are in the present is inextricably linked to everyone who came before us, that we might be on different timelines, but we’re all on the same plane. In culture, in life, in fashion… if you pay attention, the past is always present.
It’s instantly elevated by texture. The hair-on changes the game in terms of overall aesthetic, from kitschy to couture, and it lends itself to high-end embellishments like contrast piping, studding, or suede fringe.
It serves as a neutral. Even though it has head-turning qualities, when it comes to wearing and pairing it, it’s nearly as versatile as a black basic or a blue jean. Rock it with red, trim it with green, style it with chambray – it all works!

“The color palette was unexpected and way outside my range of colors I would traditionally use. For an artist, this is the best thing that can happen.“
- MAURA ALLEN

STORY:
Her first love is photography. Her forte is enhancing those images with her interpretation of the American West. And now, her foray into fashion immortalizes her inimitable style in wearable works of art.
The Northern California native is one of eight children, right in the middle of the birth order, who grew up in a home that fostered creativity from day one. Every bedroom door was painted a different color, and where most homes held a formal living room, hers held multiple ping pong tables, consistently covered in different crafts that could be abandoned and resumed at will. That planted seed took root in Maura, who schemed her way into sewing class before she was technically old enough, and used her babysitting money to buy her first camera.
The artist was a scholar of Latin studies at Stanford University, where her time spent examining the elements of Roman civilization awakened an awareness that the same societal strands also wove through the evolution of the American West. These were the stories
she wanted to tell, to visually link past and present, to create images that explore how what we were then shaped who we are now.
When we approached Maura for a collaboration, it felt like a fortuitous fit. There was a mutual appreciation of artistry. We had long been admirers of her work, her unique methods and mediums, and how her composition always focused strongly on the silhouette of her subjects, prioritizing their presence over their appearance. In turn, Maura expressed an admiration not just for DDR designs, but also for the women who wear them and the bold choices they make in the art of dressing.
The experience was an honor and the outcome was extraordinary; this collection could not exist without her remarkable talent and creative contributions.

“There’s this idea of Mother Earth and Father Sky, of honoring the land - not just looking at the land, but listening to it, and being a part of it.“
- MAURA ALLEN

STORY:
There’s a great deal of parallel in the process of creating visual art, whether it’s for a wall or a wardrobe.
“I’ve been taught to photograph from the back forward, to build your layers,” Maura explained. “For me, the first layer is usually sky, then clouds, then often mountains or a rodeo arena –there might be some space and dirt – and then, the star of the show. But, I don’t think of the background as a supporting character; I think of it as a fundamental layer. Similar to the way I imagine [the Double D] team designs clothing.”
We’ve never really thought about it in those terms, but she’s right. Sometimes it’s a small artistic element, like an image or a print, and we build a whole piece (or even a collection) around it. Sometimes it’s a silhouette we want to reinvent – like this Tucker’s Tack Jacket –and we start there, building on it with artwork and embellishments. Either way, every layer is integral to the outcome – no supporting characters, just building blocks.

“There’s a deep and rich heritage in the West that I believe is the foundation of all the stories.“

Revolutionize your wardrobe with a single piece. It’s not a coat, it’s not even a cape – it’s a collar. Crafted from stunning SAGA-rated fur, this exquisite accessory is a dramatic draped pelt trimmed with an extraordinary detail of fur-tipped fringe. It’s in natural neutral hues, apt for elevating anything from a chambray pearl snap to your LBD.

Shine up that silver, sister, because we’re going bigger and bolder with our accessories. From buckles to bolos and conchos to ketohs, we’re styling it to be seen.
As silly and oversimplified as it might sound, the name of the game is surface area. Think specimen stones in your statement rings and squash blossoms, big broaches and cluster pins, even larger earrings, like broad Oscar Betz fans and Dennis Hogan hoops. But more than anything, we’re leaning strong into silver this season. Keep an eye out for all kinds of oversized conchos – of course, in belts, but also bolos, scarf slides, we’ve even found some cool rings and earrings that have been repurposed that provide that statement silver aesthetic. We’re also eyeing a lot of trophy buckles, sizable silver shields with an array of embellishments that can add your own pop of personality, from lassos to longhorns. Another thing we’re obsessing over is enormous desert pearls; they’re a bit more elusive and definitely an investment piece, but our own mother can attest that if you can find a strand, you will wear them for life.

“I want to bend time. I want to send you back to your grandmother’s with a color palette, and then bring you to present day with a strong, gritand-grace cowgirl.“

This year, we’re not only popping champagne, we’re styling it. The holiday season brings a sparkling opportunity to elevate your fashion game with sophisticated palettes and timeless elegance.
Winter whites and champagne hues are the epitome of festive chic, seamlessly blending luxury with a fresh, modern edge. Adding champagne tones — think soft gold blouses, shimmering skirts, or accessories — infuses warmth and luminosity into your winter wardrobe, echoing the celebratory spirit that defines the season.
Mixing textures, like luxe leathers and supple silks, enhances the richness of these pale shades and layering shades on that end of the spectrum – warm whites, creams, khakis, and champagnes – keeps your outfit visually interesting. Whether you’re attending a cozy family brunch or a sophisticated evening soiree, these hues flatter every skin tone and photograph beautifully under twinkling lights.
If you’re worried your monochromatic look is lackluster, try a luscious lip color for a dose of drama or amp up the whole outfit by adding fur – a collar, cape, or vest.
Celebrate the holidays in refined style and radiant confidence.

“There’s an artistry in the choices you make, in what you decide to wear and how you present yourself.“
- MAURA ALLEN

Catch the light and catch some looks! Command attention with this fusion of bold texture and high-glamour shine.
Serving style that feels part Western, part Vegas, and full-on fabulous, this sparkly suit embodies a confident balance between masculine structure and feminine allure. The chic silhouette features a tailored blazer with a plunging V-neck (if you dare to go bare) and an elegant, elongating flared pant. The crisp black denim has a slight stretch, making it surprisingly wearable for something with this level of glam. It’s entirely encrusted with intricately applied black faceted crystals, meaning every inch glimmers under the light, whether you’re strutting through the Stockyards or down the Strip.
From Nashville to NFR, it’s an unforgettable statement suit for anyone unafraid of the spotlight.

PWe are all in on animal print. We spent the winter parading around in python bikers and cheetah dusters, but as we steer our style towards spring, it’s all about that hair-on-hide.
Animal print is everywhere at the moment, and you’d be hard-pressed to argue its universal appeal, from loungewear to luxury. While your first association with animal print may be on the exotic side (think jungle cats), there’s a whole other side that’s a little more suited to our style, particularly this Romance & Rustlers rodeo collection: cowhide.
op culture influences trends all the time, and industry experts suggest that the latest season of HBO’s White Lotus brought caftans back to the forefront of fashion. People were reminded of the ease and elegance of the garment; of how, when wearing one, you can feel like a young free spirit yet look like sophisticated old money. That appeal wasn’t lost on us, but we felt we had to adapt the aesthetic if it was going to feel authentic to us.
HERE’S WHY WE LOVE IT:
It’s inherently Western. Without cows, there’s no such thing as cowgirls, right? It can work anywhere from uptown brunch to downtown date night, but it’s rodeo-ready right out of the gate.
“There was this piece of Maura’s that I’d always loved,” Cheryl said. “It predated our collaboration, but she was willing to let us use it for the collection. To do it justice, I felt like the image needed to be full scale and stand alone; it couldn’t be reworked into a print. The caftan silhouette provided the canvas to make that possible. We created it in a stunning, sweeping silk, carried the background up to the neck, and finished it with a detail of hair pipe at the collar that mimics the image itself.”
It’s instantly elevated by texture. The hair-on changes the game in terms of overall aesthetic, from kitschy to couture, and it lends itself to high-end embellishments like contrast piping, studding, or suede fringe.
The subject of the image was one of two sisters Maura photographed up in Montana in an untraditional shoot where the only direction she gave was, “I want to feel the land through you.” As a result, she captured the peacefulness and reverence that occur when the land and the woman are one.
It serves as a neutral. Even though it has head-turning qualities, when it comes to wearing and pairing it, it’s nearly as versatile as a black basic or a blue jean. Rock it with red, trim it with green, style it with chambray – it all works!
The Western Motel Boot

Drench your wardrobe in wine. Flood it with rich burgundies and jammy berry hues that are so deliciously juicy it almost makes your lips smack. And then shock your senses with a chartreuse.
The deep, saturated colors evoke a sense of richness and warmth that’s impossibly alluring; they’re luxurious and indulgent and universally appealing in a way that’s almost inexplicable. These shades are absolutely ruling the runways right now, and we are as enamored as anyone, and yet, as the style-savvy know, everything is more potent with a pop of poison.
Our poison color this season is risky and radiant – almost radioactive – an electric yellow-green that is entirely unexpected and equally as irresistible. It feels unlikely in a luxe velvet maxi dress and even more powerful in a patent leather. It provides a stark contrast that amplifies the drama of the cabernet colors and adds an intensity to the palette that you just don’t encounter very often.

The beauty of a collaboration is that it’s always a bit of a push and pull, and when it’s all said and done, a truly successful endeavor has stretched the scope of both creatives.
Our work with Maura Allen on Past & Present was a true collaboration. While a few of the images we featured in pieces and prints were works that already existed, much of what appears in this collection was created specifically for us, using the design footprint we’d already established.
“I think most important was the color palette,” explained Maura. “It was unexpected and way outside my range of colors I would traditionally use. For an artist, this is the best thing that can happen. The pinks and the greens, and the poison greens that everyone loves. The turquoise, the rich wine, the rodeo brown. As a painter, I get to choose the color of the sky. It can be orange sky and a purple moon, or it can be mint green – what y’all call ‘mineral’ internally, and I now call ‘Double D sky’.”
She answered the call spectacularly, executing her signature style in hues that you’d never know once felt foreign to her. In turn, we transformed these modern masterpieces into timeless wearable works of art in our own signature style of silks and suedes. The outcome was (literally) breathtaking.
“When Kaylin emerged from the Ghost Ranch rocks in the Ameah Dreaming Jacket, I actually gasped,” Maura recalled. “It was like she was meant to be there, and that image was meant to be on that jacket. It felt full circle.”

“I like to learn the rules, and then see how we can bend the rules.“

TIGER’S MILK BIKER, LES GAUCHOS HAT, MUMMY’S BUNDLE BY DOUBLE D RANCH, DOUBLE D RANCH JEWELRY

Time to broaden your horizon on what a halter can do for your wardrobe.
There are a couple of misconceptions that tend to come to mind when people hear the word “halter”: that they’re for the young, and that they’re for the summer. We’re here to retire that way of thinking – the Rainbow Corn Dress proves that a halter maxi is for you and it’s for year-round. (Hello, we’re launching it in a holiday collection, we promise you can wear it in winter!)
For starters, the silhouette is flattering and forgiving – this neckline does everyone favors – which makes it universally appealing and fun to wear, and the beautiful sweep of the silk lends an elegance to every step. The repeated rainbow corn pattern serves a southwestern style that’s almost an optical illusion that both elongates and camouflages, and the silver concho at the neck adds that extra eye-catching element that elevates it from a simple slip-on dress to a statement piece.
Perhaps the best part, though, is that it can stay a steady staple 365 days a year. You can style it solo with sandals for the summer. It easily adapts to autumn with the addition of a classic denim jacket or a chic cardigan and some shortie boots, warm it up for winter with a bold biker jacket, or better yet, a full-volume fur. A structured blazer instantly makes it work-ready, and this probably goes without saying, but don’t be afraid to belt it!

It’s easy to fall in love with the energy of this season’s electric poison hue. It’s a little bit harder to accessorize with it. If you’re wanting to play up the charm of the chartreuse or just add a colorful contrast to your rich berry hues, jasper just might be your unlikely hero. The citrusy stone isn’t exactly common in southwestern jewelry, so snag it when you see it – it could be the crown jewel for complementing this collection.

As unusual as it might sound, one of the ultra-chic new trends coming down the pipeline is doubling up on your belts. That’s right -- wearing two belts at a time. One sits on your actual waist or in your belt loops, the second slings asymmetrically across your hips. (That’s not a rule, just a suggestion -- experiment with it any way you want!) Pro Tip: Avoid choosing two belts that are too similar; you can create visual interest by varying the size and style.
