Stephen took me to see the Olly Murs Tribute at The St Leonards Hotel last month. It was a great night out! I highly recommend these tributes. The food was good and the singer, Joe Scripps, was excellent. We were able to let our hair down for the evening! So, this month there are flooring experts, builders, carpet and upholster cleaners, blinds and dentists as well as garden designers, tree surgeons, painters and decorators, the all important estate and will planning, hearing experts and much more. Nellie took us to Milford on Sea and what a great weekend away we had! You can read “The Adventures of Nellie� on pages 38 and 39. A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE ANNUAL PARISH MEETING What is an Annual Parish Meeting. The purpose of the Annual meeting is so that the Council can explain what it has been doing over the past year and it enables the electors to have their say on anything which they consider is important to the people of West Moors Parish. Who can attend the meeting? Anyone may attend but only registered electors of the parish of West Moors may speak and vote. Will I be able to ask questions and make suggestions? Yes, any registered elector may ask questions of the Council. These will usually be answered by the Chairman, the Clerk or a designated Councillor. An elector may also make suggestions and comment on anything pertinent to the residents of West Moors. Who will chair the meeting? If the Chairman of the Parish Council is present he/she will chair the meeting. If the Chairman is unable to attend, then the meeting will elect a chairperson from amongst those electors present. Will Parish Councillors be there? Parish councillors generally attend and will speak to answer questions if required. However, the purpose of the meeting is to enable ordinary electors to have their say. Councillors will listen to what the electors have to say. Will notes be taken of the meeting? Yes a written record of the meeting will be taken and presented to the Parish Council for their consideration. The minutes from the Annual Public meeting will be approved and signed at the Parish Council meeting being held on the 30th April 2015.

You’re Hired! Comms UK apprentice speaks of success Telecoms trainee, Nick Cossins, promotes apprenticeships after his own training scheme with Woolsbridge-based company, Comms UK, successfully ends in employment. Mr Cossins, 20, from West Moors is now celebrating his new job title of Support Engineer after completing a full-time apprenticeship at Comms UK. When asked how beneficial the scheme had been, he replied: “Very. I have learnt so much in my time here. I have gained a new set of skills and have learned a lot of important life lessons. Comms UK have treated me very well and I would recommend an apprenticeship to anybody.” Starting in 2012, Mr Cossins spent four days a week working and training inhouse with the help of a company mentor, whilst also attending Bournemouth and Poole College for one day a week. One of the company’s Directors, Steve Leach said: “Nick is our second new employee taken on under the apprenticeship programme. Having seen the success of the apprentice scheme in producing talented employees trained in the Comms UK way, it was the obvious choice when the opportunity arose for another young person to join the company.” By attending courses on hosted telephone systems, shadowing colleagues on site visits, and carrying out specific jobrelated tasks, Mr Cossins learned the telecom engineering skills required to take him through to his new employed role. Always supported by the team, he said: “If I needed help, all I had to do was ask.”
Nick Cossins from West Moors For businesses considering an apprenticeship scheme, Mr Leach said: “The initial cost to Comms UK was minimal, allowing us the opportunity to provide a unique training programme that Nick has taken full advantage of, and has resulted in a full time position with plenty of future opportunities within the company. So successful has been our experience, we have just taken on our third apprentice and in the process of looking for another.” Unusually, Comms UK sourced their candidates by approaching the local schools, interviewing and selecting a young person, then enrolling them on the apprenticeship programme. Bournemouth and Poole College have apprenticeship vacancies all year round. Of future plans, Mr Cossins says: “I hope to progress further in my learning and climb the company ladder. I think there are good things to come with Comms UK as the company is evolving. I hope to be a part of this evolution.”

Is that right? No. As of April 2014, the Government have said that people who want to issue an application at Court to resolve finances within a divorce must first attend a Mediation Information and Assessment meeting (known as a MIAM). This means that, apart from in very limited circumstances, you have to see a mediator and find out about mediation as an option. A MIAM will also inform you about other options open to you which include collaborative law, lawyer-assisted negotiations and the traditional court process.

West Moors Lunch and Friendship Club
The West Moors Lunch and Friendship Club meet weekly on a Wednesday for a chat, lunch and afternoon games. Some weeks we have entertainers visiting and we‛ve enjoyed Darryl on the keyboard and the Fordingbridge Hand Bell Ringers in February. We were able to sing along to some of the songs from both. Coming up are two of our favourite regulars, Tony with Giant Scrabble and Chair Exercises with Kim. Also we have music with Simon Woodley and looking forward to Easter we will be holding our first Easter Bonnet competition.

A demonstration by a professional artist is enjoyed on the second Monday in each month with members, always happy to help each other, meeting for untutored workshops on all other Mondays. The April demonstration by an invited professional artist is entitled “Scene Impressions”. Artist Colin Brown will demonstrate how he paints scenes using the medium of acrylic paint. It is on Monday April 14th and doors open at 9.30am for a 10am start until 12 noon. The demonstration is held at the West Moors Memorial Hall, West Moors. The Adventures of Nellie The Dorset Publications Camper Van Nellie was ready for a break this month. After all it was half term and Hayden was off school, so what better excuse than to ‘get away’ for a few days. We live in such a gorgeous area it was difficult to choose where to go. Nellie eventually decided to take us just along the coast, through the New Forest, to the Shorefield Country Park near Milford on Sea. As the weather has been a bit unpredictable, and still a bit on the chilly side, we booked a small chalet with heating and Nellie parked herself proudly outside. I have to say that Nellie did well, the chalet was really good value for money and just what we needed for a few days off. There are some rather grand looking log cabins as well as impressive caravans on site with hot tubs outside, so maybe we will try one of those next time? Anyway what we had was perfect for what we wanted. We did arrive a bit early, all very keen to have our time off, so Nellie and her whistling kettle provided us with a lovely cuppa, while we waited for

Nellie arriving at Shorefield Country Park the keys to our ‘weekend escape’. Of course Hayden was very excited about the pool, so once we were settled in and bags were unpacked, (were we really only staying for a few days??) off we set for the leisure facilities. While Hayden practiced his hand stands at the deep end and generally glided around like I will never be able to do, I had a relaxed steam bath, sauna and jacuzzi. Much more fun… at least at 50! A caravan park from this viewpoint is ideal - it caters for all ages. What I liked about this park also is the setting. Located in a wonderful forest of trees, much wildlife, (I am sure we saw a woodpecker) and fields, yet the sea is literally ten minutes walk away. Saturday was glorious with blue skies and those well known English fleecy white clouds. Love it. We marched off for the coast, doing a short Geocache enroute. The ‘treasure’ this time was tiny and Stephen was the winner, finding it very well hidden in a bench.
39 Once we got to the sea there was a large banner warning us not to swim. Though it was sunny it was still a little chilly, so that made me smile. I then looked more closely at the banner and was fascinated by the iron sea defences that were very dangerously placed under the water at this time. That got me thinking about our coast line. This beach is full of pebbles and the waves were crashing vociferously onto them. If you close your eyes it is really quite dramatic. There is in fact a lot of work having to be done due to erosion, moving landscapes and these old sea defences. I discovered that the rock in this area is softer than that near Old Harry Rocks and there is a whole Shoreline Management Plan to help preserve our coastline all the way from Hurst Spit at Milford on Sea to Durlston Head near Swanage, including the bays in Poole and Bournemouth. That is all quite an undertaking! It is surprising really what we take for granted. The whole concept got me thinking about old times, the future and life in general, but that is a bit deep for the Adventures of Nellie! We had a whale of a time, not literally as we were not allowed to swim, throwing stones in

No Swimming?? I was so looking forward... the water, running enthusiastically away from the waves as they thundered towards us. Hayden got pretty wet and thought that was hysterical. He couldn’t stop laughing. There are many beach huts along this stretch and some are delightfully painted while others are quite dilapidated. From what I read there is a whole question over these English Seaside getaways and their safety in this area. I certainly would be sorry to see them go. One local artist was collecting smooth pebbles for her next project, coming down from her little wooden hideaway onto the beach with her bucket. How exiting. Finally we made it to…the café! It was perfect especially as it has a park for the children. “Needles Eye Café” it is called, obviously due to its stunning views of the coast and indeed The Needles on the Isle of Wight. After a good lunch, rest and relaxation, we set off back to the chalet and Nellie waiting patiently for us. We didn’t get to Hurst Castle and will have to save that for another trip. The fresh air, walk and wonderful views were just what we needed. What an amazing place we live in. So, where will Nellie go next? By Debbie Corney

Our emphasis along with those of our Agencies is in getting people off the streets and as an incentive if rough sleepers accept Agency help and move into accommodation we provide a basket of healthy food, a washing up bowl of toiletries and a bucket of household essentials. We also try to encourage a daily structure and empowerment through poetry, artwork, singing, sport, etc. We are in the process of getting Charity status Donations can be made of essential items or cash. Essential Items: Rucksacks • Clothing, pants, socks, shirts, jumpers, gloves and scarves • Toiletries, toilet paper, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, combs / hair brushes, wipes and tissues • Other useful items such as pens, notepads, washing powder tablets and torches. How can you help? • Organise Fund Raising Events, such as raffles, tombola, cake stalls, etc and donate the proceeds. • Clothing, second hand, clean / reasonable quality, or new can be donated and stored in our secure facility pending its inclusion in a rucksack. A good number of members attended the recent AGM held recently and then enjoyed a very interesting talk and film show by Rosemary Legrand on The South Island of New Zealand. The first floral demonstration of the year will be held on 18 March when Anne Clark will be entertaining us with “Flowers in Fashion” and the Club competition will be “It’s Spring”. Oakhurst Community First School Chinese Dance Comes to Oakhurst Children in Acorn class at Oakhurst Community First School in West Moors had a special afternoon learning about Chinese dance. This included a dancing dragon which the children performed to parents at the end of the afternoon.
