How you can help us improve our hospitals This is the year of change for our hospitals. We are focused on making improvements and delivering excellent care for every patient, every day, everywhere - and you can help us. One of our key values is communication; this means taking time to listen and learn from our patients, visitors and our staff and making improvements. Here are just two examples of changes we have made:
Elderly short stay ward Ward 22 is now a short-stay ward for elderly patients. Designated social workers, discharge planning workers and experienced therapists have joined the nursing and medical staff on the ward and are enabling patients to get home sooner. Staff nurse and discharge planner, Victoria Coe, says: “It is great to see patients going home more quickly which makes them happy, and means we can spend more time with them when they are here.”
Same day emergency treatment Not all patients attending hospital as an emergency need to be admitted. We have expanded our Ambulatory Emergency Care (AEC) services so that patients referred by their GP, or seen in the Emergency Department, can receive same day care with follow up if necessary. We can also support early discharge by reviewing patients in AEC. Lead nurse Sonia Mahmoud, says: “Our patients are leaving happy in the knowledge that all their assessment needs have been met within a safe and friendly environment.”
Your feedback Your feedback is very important to us. It helps us know where we need to improve and we have a number of different ways of asking our patients for their views. The Patients Association is supporting us with a Care Campaign Audit. Patients are asked about their care while they are here and any areas for improvement are immediately fed back to the ward so any concerns can be acted on quickly. Here are just some of the changes we have made recently following patient comments: You said: “It would be nice to have the same nurse treating me.” We did: Implemented bay-based nursing where a nurse is assigned to a bay and is accountable for that bay.

You said: “Visiting time is too short to visit patients and talk to staff about patient care.” We did: We have lengthened visiting times to improve access to staff. Patients who require assistance with eating meals during their hospital stay are also able to turn to their families and carers for assistance, with support from hospital staff. You said: “Pharmacy was very slow and took three hours to dispense medication on day of discharge.” We did: A new pharmacy tracker screen to track prescriptions has been installed. Two new healthcare assistants now assist with medication sign-off and ward staff are working more closely with Pharmacy to anticipate when a patient may be discharged.
Learning from complaints We know things don’t go right all of the time, but we can learn a lot from your feedback when care doesn’t live up to the high standards we aspire to. Delivering high quality care includes dealing with complaints in a positive, open and understanding way. We have reviewed our complaints policy and are now even more focused on understanding the issues to be addressed. We are responding more quickly and meeting with those who have raised concerns so they are fully involved in the process. These are your hospitals and you can help us shape the way we deliver care. We want to provide a quality service that meets your needs so we will continue to listen and deliver excellent care for every patient, every day, everywhere.

WW1 Centenary News
West Moors During World War One There will be an exhibition held at the West Moors library for the centenary commemorations of the First World War. As some of you already know, the exhibition is a combined effort of the three schools in West Moors and the Parish Council. The schools have each done their own interpretation and theme, while the Parish Council has done a population and geographical profile of the village during the WW1 period. There has been over 1700 hours of research undertaken including the scrutiny of all the National Census data from 1841 to 1911 inclusive; Parish (civil and ecclesiastical) records; Births, Deaths and Marriages records; Wills and Probate records; Military and World War 1 records; St Mary’s First School log books; electoral registers; jury lists; trade and profession directories and various newspapers and journals. There has also been discussion with numerous local residents as to their ancestors. This has resulted in a list of 1095 names, the households they belonged to and, for the vast majority, in what road they lived and for many the name/number of their home (some of which are still to be seen today). For the first time, at least since the end of the First World War, the
full details of the fallen, who for most people are currently merely names on the memorial, have been documented. Also for the first time is documented all the West Moors residents who served in the military during the conflict and survived. The intention is that at some point in the near future the result of all the research will go on-line for all to see but for the time being the exhibition is at the West Moors library from 7th July to the end of August. Barclays Strong Person Competition Raises £5K The Barclays House Strong Man Competition certainly did put the ‘fun’ back into fundraising. It was a fantastic event, a great atmosphere and the eight competitors who battled for the title did so in true sporting style. Richard Stokes, John Macris, Rob Best, Bob Jones, Jamie Moon, Al Groome, Gareth Mayo and Kyle O’nions took part in six events which included a car pull, log lift and tyre carry. Some competitors had travelled up from London and Rob Best represented the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation (JTYAF), as a guest competitor. After the six events John and Rob were neck and neck so an additional log lift between the two, finally decided the winner. Even that was a very close call with only two lifts separating them. Congratulations to Rob who took the title and a huge thank you to the Barclays House Team who organised this brilliant competition raising an incredible £5000 for the JTYAF and Cancer Research. The event would not have been possible without the help of Russell Jolley from the Conditioning Centre, who provided all the equipment and did a brilliant job as compere on the day. Thanks must also go to W G Jones who donated the wheelbarrows for the medley event and Tesco Ferndown for donating refreshments for the competitors. Pete Thornton Chair of the JTYAF commented, “This was a fantastic event
and it’s raised a huge amount for two great causes. This will make a huge difference to the opportunities that we can provide for local young people this year.”

Every month the solicitors and lawyers at Harold G Walker will be providing answers to your questions about the law. We are buying a property in an area which we know well having lived here for 30 years! Do we really need to have searches done on the property we’re buying?
property at that particular time. You may be concerned about other matters and in those circumstances we can make further investigations on your behalf.
The answer is invariably yes! For residential properties a lender will often require particular searches to be carried out. Even where there is no lender, HGW still recommends, at least, the Local Authority, Water & Drainage and Environmental searches.
Drainage and Water searches show whether the property is connected to mains water and sewage and the location of any pipes and public sewers. This could be very important if you are planning any modifications to the property in the future.
The Local Authority search provides answers to an extensive set of enquiries relating to the general area and the property itself, including any planning history. It can uncover various issues, for example, whether the property may soon have a dual carriageway running through the end of the garden! My mother has recently died and her estate is worth £500,000, will I need to pay Inheritance Tax?

The current threshold for Inheritance Tax (IHT) is £325,000. This is known as the nil rate band. Where an estate exceeds this amount and the beneficiary of the estate is non-exempt from IHT, then IHT will be payable on the excess at 40%. As a child of the deceased you are considered to be non-exempt and therefore the amount of IHT payable could be as much as £70,000 (being 40% of £175,000). However, if your mother was a widow and she had inherited her late husband’s estate then the Executor of your mother’s estate could claim his unused nil rate band. In this instance the amount to be claimed could be as much as £325,000,
There is a wide variety of further searches which can be obtained such as Flood Searches, Chancel Repair, Mining, Neighbour and Planning Searches etc and HGW will provide further advice to you regarding these should they be relevant. Conducting searches before you buy can prevent a lot of headaches with the property later on.

Bee wildlife friendly This summer, make your garden bee friendly. Bees are fundamental to the ecosystem, the food chain and our health; they enable the plants around us to grow by pollinating their flowers. The foods we eat – fruits, vegetables, grains and seeds – depend upon this process, as do many animals and birds. There are over 250 species of bees in Britain, including the bumblebee, the solitary bee and the honeybee. Solitary bees live alone, but bumblebees and honeybees live in large colonies which can contain up to 50,000 bees. Most of the bees in these colonies work by gathering pollen, which they bring back to the hive on their back legs. This pollen is transformed into honey. An individual worker bee can visit 14,000 flowers a day. Pollen is transferred between from the anther (the male part) of one flower to the stigma (the female part) of another. When a bee finds a good source of food, it dances in a figure of eight pattern. The angle of this dance in

relation to the sun tells other bees where the food source is. Other bees in the colony will then fly to the plant to collect pollen and nectar. Unfortunately, factors such as modern farming practices have made life harder for bees to find natural habitats, and this has led to a steep decline in their numbers. Beekeepers work to protect the bee population by maintaining their own colonies, some of which are used to provide pollination services to farmers, but more help is needed. If you want to help conserve the bee population, fill your garden with beefriendly flowers. These flowers are rich in pollen and nectar. Recommended plants include foxgloves, Californian poppies and geraniums, but you should fill your garden with a wide variety so that at least two flowers are in bloom each season. Quality cars are identifiable straight away. Even if a premium vehicle had its badges taped over, all you’d need to do is sit in it. Instantly you’d sense the difference between an ‘average’ and a top class motor. Take the latest Mercedes-Benz AClass. Inside, it’s positively palatial. The German brand is famous for its refinement, but the A-Class is almost the runt of the litter – and therefore you might expect a more undeveloped set up inside and out. But that’s not the case at all. It may well have been the argument when the old model first appeared on our roads. It was upright, careful and dull. It certainly wasn’t a car you’d list as captivating. Nonetheless, it did sell – and that’s because it was affordable – for a Merc – and practical for parents on the rug-rat run desperate to roll up outside the school gates in a Benz. Then the A-Class was completely re-thought for 2013. It rolled off the production line a totally different car – not just one that had undergone plastic surgery – it was poles apart from the old version. The entry-level Mercedes is now truly enthralling and a machine you want because of its alluring aesthetics. In some ways it’s lost its no-nonsense practicality because the boot, although conveniently rectangular, is nothing to shout about space-wise. But brush that aside and take a
test drive, because the new model will seduce you – especially if you go for the A 200 CDI AMG Sport. This is a real driver’s car and includes a dynamic handling package with sports suspension, perforated disc brakes and cruise control. As well as this, the Merc has athletic body-styling, 18 inch alloy wheels and a silver grille. Additionally, in A 200 CDI guise, it comes with a gutsy turbo diesel powerhouse. It also has a flat-bottomed leather steering wheel, red stitching, sports seats, rain sensors, ambient lighting and a stereo system boy -racers would be jealous of. On the move, the A 200’s oil burner gets you to a respectable speed quickly, if not sensationally. Road holding, however, is phenomenal. Steering is well-weighted and precise, and the six speed gearbox is slick, quick, and easy on your left hand. The A-Class has the vim and vigour that's required to punch its weight in a highly competitive market. It’s an all-round performer and just the car that Mercedes-Benz dealers need to tempt new customers into their showrooms.

Well I am nearly 50 years old…sshh, that is not for public knowledge so please keep it to yourself… and I have a 10 year old, active son. He loves cycling and has most definitely outgrown his last bike that we bought him a few years ago (Why do they grow so fast!). We had one of those family meetings where it was decided that a new bike each would be great to take with Nellie on our trips out. That way we could drive to the countryside or the seaside and cycle where Nellie was just too big to go. I used to cycle quite a bit in my younger days, so I was ok with the idea, though a little apprehensive. The things you do for your children… All three of us went into Motabitz in Ferndown and I instantly saw the bike I wanted… you know one of those lovely new, retro looking, relaxing style bikes with a beautiful basket on the front. That was the one for me, no doubt, totally certain and I knew I would love riding it. I didn’t say this at the time, but I knew

Steve was a little more uncertain, so the chap who was serving that day suggested we went to their bigger store in Boscombe and see more of the bikes on display there. Off we went. Fortunately Karl, who was working at the store that day, gave me some great advice. Not having ridden for, well a few years now (since I was last at High School, so at least 5 years…), I was totally unfamiliar with all the different types of bikes. Karl asked where we would be riding. I confidently told him, off road, bridle paths, walkways etc, standing there smiling. He smiled back. He looked at me, looked at my ideal, perfect bike and said, “You will feel every bump on that bike.” That wiped the confident smile off my face! I actually really appreciated all of Karl’s knowledge. I needed it. When you don’t know something and are about to spend money that could be totally
39 wasted and the whole family plans in ruins, due to lack of data, you really do want the advice of an expert. I also wanted to be able to walk after riding, and be able to sit in a chair… Karl was an expert and really willing to spend the time with us to ensure that we did get what we not only wanted, but what was best for our needs and what we would get the best use out of, as well as fun. In fact all the staff at Motabitz are really friendly and helpful. They do pride themselves on good service and are not just a shop to go and buy things for the bike and car from. They provide an excellent bike service and give this for free in the first 6 months of the new bike’s life. Excellent! So… after a little more debate and me tearing myself away from the ‘old fashioned/fashionable’ bike I so desired, I saw another I really liked. A good mountain bike, which was shining pink and white. “That’s it!” I declared. Again Karl caringly said, “Ok, let’s try it and see if you like it.” I went outside and rode around the car park at the back, just to see if I really could manage her. Hayden followed on his bright, yellow Megabyte, grinning from ear to ear the whole time. He loves cycling! We were

Rosie and Mega’s first adventure! both very happy. Stephen found a bike too, a similar ‘male version’ of the one I picked, in red and black. The bikes were all thoroughly checked and a few days later we went, very excitedly, to pick them all up. Saddles were adjusted for all of us and we were kitted out with helmets and gloves. I even got a basket for the front, which I did insist on, much to the fun of Mike who was serving us this time. He asked if it was for a dog, and I told him it was just for my handbag… Women, hey. So we are now the proud owners of Rosie, Rockie and Mega who join Nellie on our outings! We have lots planned and are now busy looking at maps with not only campsites but with cycles paths as well. Where we live is ideal as we can cycle all the way to Moors Valley through the plantation, though Nellie may feel left out, so we will have to watch that. Thank you Motabitz, you all did a great job! Rambo and pals arrive in the New Forest He’s tough, likes to be boss and has an impressive pair of horns – meet Rambo, one of the new additions to the animals at New Forest Wildlife Park.
Rambo is a mouflon, a type of wild sheep that was probably one of the ancestors of all modern domestic sheep breeds. The dominant male, he has settled in well at New Forest Wildlife Park near Ashurst since being introduced to the park in May and is accompanied by two other males and two females named Martha and Mabel. It’s hoped the mouflon will breed. Mouflon are classified as ‘vulnerable’ on the IUCN Red List of endangered species, since their numbers in the wild have declined markedly in the last few decades. Often hunted for their horns or meat, they are also under threat due to competition with domestic livestock.
The mouflon have adapted well to life at New Forest Wildlife Park Originally found in counties such as Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Oman, Kashmir, Azerbaijan and Pakistan, they were domesticated by humans around 10,500 years ago and brought to Europe. They can now be found wild in mountainous regions of Europe such as Cyprus, Corsica, Sardinia and parts of Italy. The mouflon’s coat is red-brown in colour with a dark area along its back, lighter side patches and white underparts. Both the males and females can grow horns, but those of the males are more notable, being large, curved and spiral and sometimes reaching around 25 inches in length. In the wild mouflon tend to live in mountainous terrain and on steep rocky

ledges, where they can get away from predators, though they can also be found in grasslands, desert and forest. They graze on short grasses, heather, and shrubs and have a multi-chambered stomach which enables them to regurgitate the tough plants they feed on and chew them a second time to make them softer. “The mouflon have adapted well to life at New Forest Wildlife Park and are proving popular with visitors,” said NFWP owner Carol Heap. “They are quite laid back but also curious creatures. “Mouflon are a declining species in the wild, where they are in danger of being interbred with domestic sheep. The mouflon has been an integral part of human history and development for thousands of years so we’re glad to have them here in the park and to play our part in their conservation.” The New Forest Wildlife Park is at Deerleap Lane, Longdown, Marchwood, Southampton, SO41 4UH. So Much to See and Do in New Forest Show’s Countryside Area You could spend all day in The Countryside Area of the New Forest and Hampshire County Show watching phenomenal displays of falcons, gundogs, terriers and ferret racing. Howard Kirby from Lairns Shooting School will be bringing along his gundogs giving a master class in training and working a dog for field sports. The British Transport Police will also be displaying their incredibly important daily job; using their spaniels and labradors to sniff out hazardous substances and the Police and Crime Commissioner will be talking about the latest initiative for the Prevention
of Countryside Crime. CJ’s falcons, hawks and owls will be flying over your head and the hounds will be paraded round the ring. With this year’s theme of “Hands-On” you and your family will have a chance to get involved and have a go with the range of different activities such as quizzing the huntsmen on their traditional day job and seeing the hounds; Peter Stagg will be discussing his vital job as a Keeper on the Beaulieu Estate and New Park Shooting Academy will showing you and talking about the safe handling of a shot gun. We are delighted to have cooking demonstrations from one of the Country’s Leading Game Chefs, Jose Souto and also, the Fly Fishing School is back by popular demand so book yourself a lesson on casting with the experts! West Moors Lunch Club West Moors Lunch Club meets on a Wednesday in St Anthony of Padua Church Hall, Pinehurst Road.
On June 10th Joan Wyrill was in the grounds of Buckingham Palace being presented to the Queen at a garden party. Joan had been nominated and chosen because of her many years of volunteering work starting at the age of 17 and rekindled during the 2nd World War. This continued one way or another to most recently her work for our Lunch Club. Accompanied by her daughter, Joan had a wonderful day and had spoken with the Queen. Joan said she had volunteered with some lovely people over the years and wanted to thank them all, especially the present team at the Lunch Club. Recently we had a visit by pupils of the West Moors Middle School and their teachers. The children sang songs from the big shows, which we all enjoyed very much, and afterwards chatted to the members. This month we were also entertained by Simon playing the electronic piano; he played classical, jazz and show songs and was enjoyed by us all. We‛re all looking forward to a return visit from them both Our last lunch for the summer is on July 30th and the first one in the autumn is on 3rd September 2014.

Plant of the Month
Tall and elegant, the Lupin offers pealike flowers in a mix of wonderful summer colours making them popular ornamental plants in garden borders. Lupins were eaten by the early Egyptians and they were introduced into northern Europe during the late eighteenth century to improve soil quality. Indeed they are super for attracting bees to the garden, who disappear into the flower and then come out with a cloak of yellow pollen. Lupins prefer well drained soil (not chalk) and need gentle care after flowering.

GUIDE Runner Beans
It’s not too late to plant runner beans. My Grandfather always put them in on Whit Sunday, never before, probably because the plants don’t like frost. For the cost of a packet of seeds you’ll get a continuous crop of lovely fresh runners for a month or so, and they freeze really well. Push a bean into a small pot of multi purpose compost and keep it moist. Within a couple of weeks they should start to grow and when you have some sturdy plants with 2 or 3 pairs of leaves they can be planted out in the garden or in deep troughs. If you have a vegetable patch or enough room, construct a wigwam of tall canes (about 6-8 feet) or a
row of crossed canes or even netting for them to grow up. They could even be added to flower beds to give a bit of height as long as they have something to climb up. Next to each cane, dig a hole with a trowel—add some garden compost if you have some or even a layer of newspaper (to hold the moisture) and carefully transplant the bean plants without disturbing the roots too much. Water well and keep them moist in dry spells, especially when the flower buds appear and the pods are beginning to set. Happy harvesting - and don’t forget to leave some pods on the plants to dry out and provide you with a fresh new batch of seeds for next year!

It’s not yet time to hoot the horn in celebration, but things are looking a tad better for drivers. There was no Budget petrol tax rise, and a supermarket price war sees costs now at an average £1.29/litre – that's 13p less than the peak, while insurance prices have come off their peak too. Yet if the Stig's helmet had eyes, even they'd probably still water about the fact that car running costs alone are an average £3,500/year. So I want to help you rev up your motoring savings. Note the free website PetrolPrices.com lists the day’s cheapest petrol stations in your area for unleaded, diesel, LPG and other fuels. Hidden council MOT centres can mean fewer fails. 40% of MOTs fail first time, often for trivialities such as bust light bulbs or poor windscreen wipers. So always do a quick walk-around and, where possible, fix before. For the test itself, if you've a long-term trusted garage, great. If not, little-known council MOT test centres generally don't do repairs, so have less incentive to fail you. The feedback on these is great, with many saying they get far fewer fails. There’s a full list at www.mse.me/mots Has the PHOTO on your licence expired? You risk a £1,000 fine. While the licence itself may be valid, the photo needs renewing every 10 years. Two million have expired, so check your card's section 4b date and if it’s expired, go to www.gov.uk/renew-driving-licence to renew. There's no one cheapest insurer, so the aim's to get as many quotes as possible. Yet different comparison sites cover different insurers, so always check at least two for a wider spread. Then check the ones they miss – including biggies www.aviva.co.uk and www.directline.com .Yet it’s also about understanding the counter-logical ways to save. - Third party's not always cheapest. Even though it’s meatier cover, the mere fact of selecting comprehensive insurance makes some insurers consider you a lower risk, which outweighs the cost for the bigger cover. So if you’re looking for the cheapest, always check both. - Got more than one car? Comparison sites only do single vehicles. Manually check www.admiral.com’s multi-car policy deals and, if time, www.churchill.com and
www.directline.com discounts. Young drivers, try adding parents as second drivers. Strange as it sounds, adding a responsible second driver to your policy can bring costs down. This is because insurance is about risk, so they can bring the average down. It's a case of trial and error with different firms. Yet never put someone as the main driver on the car unless they really are the main driver. Doing this falsely is called fronting; it’s illegal and can invalidate your insurance. Parking tickets from supermarkets, housing estates or any private car park do better impressions than Rory Bremner. Some even call themselves Parking Charge Notices to mimic official council Penalty Charge Notices. Yet they're not fines, just invoices. If a ticket's unfairly slapped on your windscreen (eg, there were no signs), reply explaining why it's unfair and that you won't pay. It may huff and puff, yet it can't "hit your credit record" or "send bailiffs" without the time and expense of court action. If it's an unfair council ticket, don't just accept it - you have rights. Of those appeals already turned down by councils, 50% win if they keep going to the final stage. Full help and template letters at www.mse.me/parking. Cut fuel use up to 30% by driving more efficiently. This isn’t about slowing down (though that can help if you’re a boy or girl racer). The real keys are: a) Change gear up earlier to keep revs down. b) Treat the accelerator like a money pump - the harder you press, the more fuel flows. c) Slow naturally rather than ramming the brakes to use up the car’s momentum. If possible, also reduce your vehicle’s weight and drag, then it needs less fuel to travel. So dejunk your trunk many carry unnecessary weight in the boot, correct your tyre pressure and more.

Tastes so good... SYRUP AND FRUIT COOKIES

No one can resist the taste and smell of a freshly baked cookie, straight from the oven. These yummy delights have the sweetness of sultanas mixed in and are best enjoyed with a glass of cold milk from the fridge.
Ingredients: 340g self raising flour 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda 200g soft margarine 200g Demerara sugar 200g golden syrup 50g sultanans 50g chopped nuts 50g chopped cherries
Equipment: Flat tray, covered with baking parchment Preheat the oven to 190°c or gas mark 4-5 Method: Place margarine, syrup and sugar in a bowl and mix together. Pour in the rest of the ingredients and mix thoroughly to form a dough. Place the dough in the fridge for an hour, for best results place in fridge overnight. When cold divide into 20 balls and press them lightly onto the baking tray. Place in the oven for 10 to 15mins until golden. Leave to cool on a wire rack.
Dress Up and Dance Day Pupils, parents and staff at Oakhurst Community First School in West Moors held a Dress Up and Dance day to raise funds for Macmillan Caring Locally. Miss Rebecca from Studio One – Dorset Centre for Performing Arts came to the school to lead the dance session giving her time for free. The day raised £282.01 for the charity who cared for Mrs Carol Andrews, a parent and teaching assistant at the school, who lost her fight against cancer in March.

Social Media Crowd-Funding Saved Young Blind Club Dorset Blind Association have raised the £12,000 needed to secure the safety of their young blind club with just days to go. The club for working-age blind and visually impaired people was under serious threat of closing when a cash crisis meant the club leader was made redundant. The leader’s contract was due to end on 27th June so there was a real rush to raise the £12,000 needed to secure the club’s safety for the year. Dorset Blind Association launched a campaign on social media asking people to think about “what would you miss” if you were blind, and post their responses to Facebook and Twitter. The campaign gained public attention and had involvement from many including celebrities like Lesley Waters and Goldie, businesses such as LV=, Specsavers and Farmer Palmers, sight-loss charities including Guide Dogs and RNIB (and even as far as a hotel in Dubai!) with responses ranging from “Seeing my kids growing up” to people posting funny animal videos. Jaya, Fundraising Manager at the Dorset Blind Association says “we have been delighted by the response of the public and business and, above all, are relieved to be able to continue the great work of the club, which provides a support network for visually impaired people of working age. This club has truly changed lives, giving confidence, skills and emotional support to working-age people with sightloss. Members learn independence and skills through training and volunteering, gaining employability. This reduces the reliance on local health and social care services that cost public money”. This is fantastic news for the members, who say they would really miss the club if it wasn’t there. One member says “I feel elated after the club and it stops me feeling sorry for myself” Alice is a club member, she says “the club is a motivation to go out, we share things with others who have lost their sight. people of Dorset. Dorset Blind Association has had increased demand for services and is finding it hard to keep up with the cost. With no government funding they rely almost entirely on voluntary donations from the community. Last year the charity had a £40,000 shortfall and although this appeal has helped to save the young blind club there are still many of its vital services under threat due to lack of funds. Former AFC Bournemouth chairman Eddie Mitchell saw the appeal and donated the Armani t-shirt he wore during the exhibition match between AFC Bournemouth and Real Madrid at the Goldsands Stadium on Sunday 21st July 2013. Following the game, which Real Madrid won 6-0, Eddie Mitchell visited the Real Madrid changing room and the T-shirt was signed by the Real Madrid squad, including 2013 Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo. The T-shirt also contains a rare signature by Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani himself and is being auctioned on Ebay to raise funds for the charity’s work. People can support the work of the charity by attending a Dorset Police Male Voice Choir concert in St Ambrose Church on Saturday 12th July at 7pm or company teams can enter the Virtual Row on 18th July in Bournemouth Square, for more information call Jaya 01202 712864. Wanted – wildlife volunteers The Rangers at Moors Valley Country Park and Forest are looking for volunteers to help record the vast array of plants and animals in the 800-acre Park.
The Park already benefits from regular surveys of its butterfly, dragonfly and damselfly populations, and keeps an ongoing record of bird sightings. Now, with the help of additional experts, the Rangers are hoping to broaden their knowledge of the Park’s many other inhabitants. “We are organising a 24-hour Bioblitz at Moors Valley on 24 July and would love to bring some new volunteers on board to help discover and record particular species”, said Countryside Education Ranger, Katie Davies. “We are hoping lots of members of the public will also want to join in, but obviously they will need guidance, so knowledgeable experts will be welcome. “We are also keen to increase the scope of our regular surveys, so we would also welcome support from volunteers who can’t make the Bioblitz but would be keen to get involved with regular survey work.”
