Dear Neighbours! We certainly have a full Directory for you this month with several articles of interest including a Trip Down Memory Line by Martin Rowley. There is a request on page 12 from The East Dorset Bee Keepers Association which has an apiary in West Moors! There are also some great events coming up… with “The Southwest Over 50’s Lifestyle Show” on 18th April, for which Dorset publications with The West Moors Directory, is one of the proud sponsors. There is also a brand new event at the Bournemouth International Centre at the end of May – The Family Adventure Festival 2013! This promises to be a great day out. There are also lots of other clubs and societies, in and around our beautiful village of West Moors! A man of experience on the merger Robert Talbot, Poole Hospital’s Medical Director and experienced surgeon, explains how the proposed merger of the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals and Poole Hospital NHS foundation trusts will provide even better healthcare in Dorset. “Should the merger go ahead, we will not only sustain vital services for patients but provide even better care. There are increasing expectations for consultantled care, seven days a week, which are not sustainable on both sites. The merger will allow us to unify or centralise some services that we currently duplicate, while providing as muc h as we can on both sites so that patients don’t have to travel unnecessarily. “We want to provide the best emergency care to patients with urgent surgical problems, by giving the surgeons sufficient dedicated time, and the necessary support services, to treat patients with an acute surgical need at any time of day or night. There is good evidence that patients have a better outcome after some complex operations if their team carries out the procedure frequently.

East Dorset Bee Keeping Association The East Dorset Bee Keeping Association works hard to protect the honey bees in our area. It is active in the collection of swarms in the summer months and recruiting new members and nurturing them as responsible and caring protectors of our precious inheritance. The Association tries to help members by organising a programme of meetings throughout the year, including practical demonstrations in the open season at their apiary in West Moors. It also forms a platform where beekeepers can meet to discuss and follow up their common interest. The group is active on Facebook and has its own website www.edbka.org.uk both giving information on their events and how to become a Beekeeper. If you encounter a bee swarm this summer,

Apex Care opens new town centre premises in Andover
O
n Tuesday 12th March, the directors of Apex Care Malcolm and Liz Patrick welcomed the Mayor of Test Valley, Mrs Dorothy Baverstock, to declare the new Andover premises officially open. Apex Care has been providing domiciliary care in the Andover
area for some years now, and have recently moved to the new office in East Street to make space for training facilities for their growing number of staff, enabling them to keep care provision up to date with regulatory requirements, and to make the most of each care worker’s potential.

Apex have numerous branches across Dorset and Hampshire, and currently assist more than 130 clients in the Andover area, including individuals with mobility issues and those diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. They can provide personalised care packages to assist with housekeeping and daily tasks, offering companionship to those at risk of becoming isolated, and the company can also offer palliative care.
