Hello Lyndhurst, Yes it really is Panto time! Can you believe how this year has flown by? Stephen, Hayden and myself are off to Hull for Christmas this year to catch up with my family. It is quite a while since we have travelled up North for the festive season and I am really looking forward to seeing the extended family as well as my parents. For me that is what Christmas is all about. Mum and Dad have come down South for the past few years, but now Hayden is 9 we feel that Father Christmas wouldn’t mind dropping the presents off in Hull… If you are entertaining this year, then maybe you need some help in the home, to create the space you want. Places to visit
Magic reindeer food for Dasher and Dancer Children visiting the New Forest Wildlife Park this month will have the chance to make some Magic Reindeer Food to put out for Santa’s four-legged helpers this Christmas. Children can enjoy creating their sparkling reindeer food in the Woodland Bakehouse coffee shop on the 15th, 16th, 22nd and 23rd December. The sessions cost £1.50 per child and are separate from entry to the park, but children must be accompanied by an adult. The park has also organised a special Winter Trail so that visitors can enjoy the animals and the lovely woodland setting in all its winter glory. The Winter Trail is included in normal entry prices. There’s also a fantastic winter deal for families. Up till March 24, 2013, any children measuring under one metre tall can go absolutely free at New Forest Wildlife Park when accompanied by a paying adult. New Forest Wildlife Park is involved in international breeding programmes for endangered species and also works with the RSPCA to rescue injured or abandoned animals. It has several species of otters, deer and owls, including the endangered giant otter, as well as lynx, foxes, Scottish wildcats, wallabies, European bison, wolves, wild boar, ferrets, pine marten, polecats, harvest mice and more. The park has timed animal feeding sessions throughout the day, animal encounters on certain days and keeper talks about the amazing wildlife.

The park’s two new adventure playgrounds, both completed this year, have been a huge success with visitors and took over six months to build. Go Wild!, for children and adults over six years old, features a challenging assaultstyle course of swings, log jumbles, climbing ropes and spider nets set in nearly an acre of lovely woodland while Mini Go Wild! is a mini adventure playground featuring similar fun activities for younger children. The park is owned by Carol and Roger Heap, who are dedicated to wildlife conservation and also run the Chestnut Centre Conservation and Wildlife Park in Derbyshire and Battersea Park Children’s Zoo in London. Pantomime season returns to the Bournemouth Pavilion from Saturday 8 December as we welcome Sleeping Beauty. This year’s offering is once again brought to you by UK Productions following a record-breaking production of Jack and the Beanstalk last year. Returning to once again write, direct and star is venue favourite and Bournemouth resident Chris Jarvis as Happy Harry, whose local gags, rapport with the audience and range of impressions always go down a storm with adults and children alike. We’re also delighted to welcome back o n e o f t he be s t P a n to v i l l a i n s Bournemouth has seen in recent years, Su Pollard – last with us for the 2009 Panto season – as Carabosse. Also returning from the cast of Jack and the Beanstalk is Wave 105 presenter Kate Weston as Good Fairy. However, our all-star cast doesn’t end there, as they’re joined by Asa Elliott from ITV’s Benidorm as the Prince and of course, no Panto would be complete without a dame, with Nurse Nelly to be played by Colin Baker of Doctor Who fame.

The New Forest Meddlars is a mixed Morris dance side, formed in 1990 and based in Lyndhurst in the New Forest. We dance mainly in the Cotswold and Border traditions, but vary our performances with new dances, some collected at festival workshops and some we devise ourselves. During the coming winter months, we shall be meeting at the Scout Hut in Romsey Road, Copythorne on Tuesday evenings to practise and to learn new dances. Morris dancing is a great social activity so why not join us. New dancers and musicians are always welcome.
