Summer is on its way...we hope! Stephen, Hayden and myself, with my Mum and Dad, have just returned from a fantastic week away on the Island of Santorini, Greece. The weather was perfect, not too hot but warm enough to swim in the sea and sunbathe on the black volcanic beach of Perissa. Since their season had not yet begun, there were no huge crowds, but enough going on to keep us entertained. The pool at the hotel had water in it too, which I was pleased about, having been disappointed in Spain this time last year. With Hayden, who loves his swimming so much, it can be pretty disheartening seeing an empty hole that needs renovating instead of blue glistening water. We stayed at a place called “Happy Fish” (quite appropriate) and I would highly recommend it. The local people were lovely and we were well looked after. An excellent week all round!

Fireworks expected at charity river cruise Lewis-Manning Hospice has announced details of a summer river cruise to Wareham on Thursday 28th July courtesy of Greenslade Pleasure Boats, which will culminate with the firework display on Poole Quay. Leaving Poole Quay at 6.45pm, the Purbeck Gem boat will take passengers on a leisurely cruise to Wareham stopping off at Wareham Quay for a delicious Hog Roast prepared by the outstanding chefs at The Salt Pig, with an opportunity to have a tipple either on board or at one of the local pubs. After some food and refreshments, the cruise will return back to Poole Harbour in time for all on board to enjoy a prime position watching the fireworks on Poole Quay. Sally Goodenough, Events Fundraiser, at Lewis-Manning Hospice, said, “We are once again very grateful to Greenslade for providing the boat and also to The Salt Pig, who have very kindly offered to do a Hog Roast, although there will also be a vegetarian option. With a cash bar on board and a chance to relax and

Directed by four time Olivier award nominee Luke Sheppard, London Contemporary Theatre brings an exciting and innovative production of the classic children’s story Stig of the Dump to Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts on 24 May. Aimed at children over the age of four this is an interactive show with plenty of opportunity for the audience to get involved. The performance combines acting singing, dance and puppetry to tell the story of Stig and Barney’s adventures and as with all the best children’s shows, the audience will be able to interact with the performers during the show, joining in with the songs and dance routines.
Barney is staying with his grandparents on the chalk Downs of southern England when he falls over the edge of an old chalk pit and tumbles through the roof of a hidden den. When he looks round he sees Stig, a caveman, with shaggy black hair and bright black eyes. The chalk pit is disused and full of people’s dumped rubbish, which Stig uses to make his home. Barney and Stig get on rather well together. They have to manage without language, as Stig speaks no English, but that doesn’t seem to stop them. Stig becomes Barney’s secret friend, not because Barney doesn’t tell anyone, but because no one believes that Stig is real. They have a great time, improving Stig’s den, collecting firewood, going hunting, and even catching some burglars who break into Barney’s grandparents’ house. It is nearly 50 years since Stig and Barney’s adventures first saw the light of day but this timeless children’s classic remains as charming and entertaining as ever. If you love pomp and ceremony, you will adore this broad-shouldered offering from Mercedes-Benz. The GLE 350d Coupe 4Matic AMG Line, on test here, doesn’t know the meaning of ‘subtle’. It doesn’t need to. After all, why buy a machine of this magnitude if you don’t want people to notice you? The car’s looks will divide opinion. It’s a bit like looking at a certain well-known, generous-nosed, French actor. Some women swoon, other’s scowl at the sight of him. But, whether you think the GLE is handsome or hideous, it is definitely mesmerising. So, what exactly is the GLE Coupe all about? Well, it’s Mercedes-Benz’s answer to super-SUVs, such as the Porsche Cayenne, Range Rover Sport and BMW X6. The goliath houses either a 3.0 litre V6 diesel, churning out 255bhp or a far less sensible V6 petrol, producing 362bhp. Both engines come hooked up to a slick-shifting nine-speed automatic ‘box. Behind the wheel, the diesel model has more than enough pull for British roads and, in AMG Line trim, you can either waft or thunder along encased in splendid surroundings. Kit includes: heated front seats, climate control, a DAB radio tuner, auto dimming and folding mirrors, parking sensors and a reversing camera. On the move, body roll is not really noticeable – which, considering the heft of the GLE, is a feat of engineering and design in itself. The permanent four-wheel drive set-up provides tons of traction, too, so the mighty Merc is safe, as well as talented at delivering driving enjoyment. You can sharpen up the steering and throttle response, and you can even adjust the air suspension at the touch of button. For instance, the Stuttgart’s firm’s ‘Sport’ setting just ups the ante a bit, providing a
heavier steering reaction and a more ‘on-rails’ like experience through corners. But, if you don’t want your passengers throwing up, the Merc is best left in its standard ‘Comfort’ mode. Here, the SUV is in its ‘natural’ state, allowing you to control its power in a more measured way, while the well-weighted steering guides the car through twisty tarmac effortlessly, rather than crazily. The air-suspension hides the fact that you’re riding around on 21 inch alloys by soaking up even the evillest of potholes. There is only one price to pay for the awesomely outsized wheels – and that’s a bit of extra noise. This is only really noticeable at motorway speed, but combined with 70mph wind-blast around the wing mirrors, the calm of the otherwise hushed cabin can become threatened at times. The GLE Coupe will take five-up, no problem - and even though it’s a coupe, rear passenger head and leg-space is ample. Only six-footers, upwards, will be vaguely bothered by the low-slung roofline. Room in the boot is very good, too, with plenty of space for a pushchair and the weekly shop, or a stack of suitcases. Only the high load lip rains on the parade, making the lifting of heavy items into the cargo area more of a chore than it should be. When all is said and done, the Mercedes-Benz GLE 350d Coupe 4Matic AMG Line is a well-appointed, fine-driving vehicle. The engine and automatic gearbox are nothing short of perfect; the steering response and handling are bang on the money – and even the sophisticated switchgear takes some beating.

New attractions at award-winning country park East Dorset’s award-winning country park is introducing some unusual new attractions this spring. Moors Valley Country Park and Forest is already home to a miniature steam railway, Go Ape, tree top trail, golf and miles of trails and cycle routes. Now the Park is adding archery and hawk walks to its busy event programme. Suitable for beginners as well as those with some experience, archery sessions began on 28 March and run on various dates until the end of August. LEWIS 6WXGHQW /RDQV There’s been a furore in Parliament about the scrapping of student grants. And every time politicians get lairy over such issues, the news focuses on the scrap and the real truth of what’s actually happening gets lost. I’ve been swamped with panicked questions about student grants from students, future students, graduates and their parents, so I want to mythbust what’s really happening. In many ways people are panicking unnecessarily about the grant changes, but missing the really damaging change, which is a retrospective hike in student loans. Student finance: the basics When you go to university, if you’re a first time UK undergraduate you don’t need to pay upfront. The Student Loans Company pays your tuition fees for you and gives you money for living, then you owe it. • You only start repaying when you leave university and, even then, only if you earn over £21,000. If you don’t earn over that you don’t repay. • The amount you repay is proportionate to earnings. You repay 9% of everything above £21,000 (eg, earn £31,000 and, as it’s £10,000 above the threshold, you repay £900 a year). • If you haven’t cleared what you owe within 30 years, the debt is wiped. • If you never earn over £21,000, you never repay. In many ways, financially it’s a no win no fee education. An easy way to think of it is a bit like an extra income tax, with the one difference that once you have repaid what you borrowed (plus interest) it stops. For far more help on this, see my full 20 student loan mythbusters guide at www.mse.me/ studentloan. I’m going to use examples for English students studying in England. For students from Wales, whether you go to university in Wales or elsewhere in the UK, the amount you borrow tends to be less, but the way you repay is the same. I’m going to focus on the situation for students who started in or after 2012 in England, for elsewhere in the UK the loans tend to be smaller. Q. So what’s happening to student grants? A: Until now, students from lower income families (roughly below £43,000 income) had some of their loan replaced by a non-repayable grant for up to £3,400. From September 2016 grants are being scrapped in England and Wales. Yet there’s much confusion about this. There are two big things to note: 1. This only applies for new starters starting from 2016. Those already at university and getting grants will keep getting them. 2. This doesn’t mean they’ll have less money coming in. New 2016 starters will get a bigger loan to replace what they would’ve got in grants. In fact, the loan figures for new starters (not continuing students) have been upped by a chunk. This is useful, as often the big issue that hits students isn’t the size of the loan, it’s that they don’t have enough money to live on day-to-day. Rents alone eat up much of this. Q. Isn’t this likely to really hit poor students hard? A: You may be surprised that I’m going to say no.
In many ways the big problem is the confusion and psychological deterrent, not the practical finances. For most students it makes no practical difference. The replacement of a grant with a loan will ONLY cost more for those who leave university and have long-term very high earnings. That’s because if you compare the current and new system, the fact it’s a loan and not a grant would only cost you more if you would’ve repaid your entire tuition fees, remaining maintenance loan after the grant, and interest in the 30 years before the debt wipes anyway. Most students won’t, so there’s no cost to them. In fact, my calculations estimate only those on STARTING salaries of £35,000 and up, and then above inflation pay rises would actually pay more. So if the system remains as it is now, it’s only those from poor backgrounds who go on to be big earners who this is negative for. However, the big question is ‘will the system remain unchanged?’ Q. What’s this retrospective hike to student repayments? A: As I explained earlier, since 2012, graduates only repay 9% of what they earn over £21,000. The government had said this threshold was due to rise each year from April 2017 in line with average earnings. Yet the Government has now decided to freeze it for at least five years, meaning many low- and middle-earning graduates will pay thousands more back than they thought they would when they signed up. After all, if we go back to thinking of it like a tax, if you were to pay 9% of everything earned above £22,000, but now repay everything above £21,000, that’s a hike. It’s received little publicity though, as it doesn’t immediately seem such a big problem. Here I need to declare an interest: I was head of the Independent Taskforce on Student Finance Information in 2012 when the system changed. The Government repeatedly told me the threshold would rise, and I, of course, told people, and used it in all my cost calculations. Well I refuse to missell these loans in hindsight. So I am actively campaigning on it – I’ve written an open letter to the Prime Minister and have personally hired lawyers to see if it can be challenged (read it at www.mse.me/ studentloanhike). The big problem, even more important than the additional cost, is the message this sends. The Government is not just freezing it going forward, it’s freezing it for everyone who signed up since 2012 - effectively changing the contract after people have signed up. The regulator would not allow any commercial lender to change its terms this way. This could destroy any trust current and future generations can have in the student finance system, and perhaps, even more widely, in the political system as a whole. I said above that the impact of replacing grants with loans isn’t actually as bad as many think under the current terms. Yet the real concern is, as the Government has shown it’s willing to change loan terms even after you’ve got them, who knows what may happen in the future.

Italian gala dinner raises over £3000 for local charity More than 25 local businesses provided tremendous support for the fourth annual Italian Night fund-raising dinner for the Dorset Blind Association at The Amore Restaurant in Shaftesbury on Wednesday, 6th April. Together with generous sponsorship from Savills of Blandford and Lloyds Bank, the charity benefited from over £3,000 from the event this year. More than £1,000 of this was raised from the auction and raffle of a wide range of prizes donated by generous local businesses, which included; Friths opticians, Shaftesbury; Hine Motors, Shaftesbury; and Rushmore Golf Club. This event was organised on behalf of the charity by a dedicated team of volunteers from North Dorset. Helena Sinclair, Fundraiser at Dorset Blind Association said: “The dedication and support from our volunteers is incredible. We really wouldn’t be able to offer the services that we do without them. Our North Dorset volunteers worked extremely hard to enable a successful event, and we at Dorset Blind Association can’t thank them enough. They really are helping visually impaired people within
their local community.” Some 55 diners enjoyed the threecourse Italian menu with wines and were entertained through the evening by The Dave Peacock Trio. Dorset Blind Association, based in Poole, provides support services for over 1,000 visually-impaired people in the county every month. Volunteers regularly visit those in need and provide transport, essential equipment and advice. There are also local social clubs in most areas, including the successful Shaftesbury and Gillingham Club which meets on the third Wednesday of each month at the Trinity Centre in Shaftesbury. Forest Holme to host Sunflower Ball Following the success of last year’s event, Forest Holme Hospice Charity will host their second Sunflower Ball on Friday June 3 at the Haven Hotel in Sandbanks. This popular event, taking place during Hospice Awareness Month, will raise much needed funds for specialist palliative and end of life care across Poole, Wimborne and the Purbecks. “The specialist teams based at Forest Holme help to relieve the suffering of local people who are facing a life limiting or terminal illness. The Adventures of Nellie The Dorset Directories Camper Van For those who are new to the area, or have are receiving your local Directory for the first time (as we have extended our reach recently), I would like to (re) introduce you to Nellie. Nellie is a Nissan Elgrand Campervan. She is somewhat overweight with long black skirts to cover up her rather large thighs... and she is getting on a bit. She is over 200,000kms old in fact. Can you believe it? So Nellie has been around and sometimes has a cheeky sense of humour to get her through the day. She has been part of the family for three and a half years and takes us all over Dorset, Purbeck and Hampshire for trips out. These little ‘stories’ can give you an idea of where to go, what to do, hopefully make you smile and help brighten up your day. They are fun and not meant to be taken too seriously, though occasionally Nellie has some sound advice she

likes to give. Women are like that aren’t they... and she is always right of course! Last month Nellie was rather excited as we have booked a camping trip to Devon in August where Hayden, our son will take part in his first Surf Life Saving Competition in the sea. Wow, we can’t wait! Hayden has been a keen swimmer for some time and joined the Branksome Chine Surf Life Saving Club just a few months ago. That was Nellie’s idea, for those who remember one of my last stories. She is very happy to keep Hayden off the computer as much as possible and out enjoying himself. This can be a challenge as we all know... Well, in preparation for our full week’s camping trip Nellie decided we needed some new equipment. After all she knows how much I like to sit in the sun, drinking

29 coffee, WATCHING Hayden running around. So off we all set for Camping World on Ringwood Road at Three Legged Cross. What a place! Nellie was dazzled. Everything you need for camping whether it is a new sleeping bag, a huge tent or awning, barbecue equipment, cups and saucers, mugs (always useful...), chairs (even more useful), gas, pipes for this, pipes for that, clothes, shoes, the list goes on and on and all at GREAT prices! We wandered around for ages. Once Hayden had what he wanted he suggested he went to keep Nellie company in the car park. A very good excuse me thinks as his phone with his games were there awaiting him. Still he had been off the electronics for at least half an hour! The staff at Camping World are extremely helpful and very patient. They have to be with me, as I was trying this chair, that lounger, looking at the different patterns on the crockery. Well you have to get it right don’t you? We can’t have Nellie having all sorts of odd colours and patterns. That just wouldn’t be right. Really! Well we got all that we wanted. I now have a very comfortable deluxe

recliner with a cup holder for that very important cup of coffee made with Nellie’s bright red whistling kettle, small chairs for the beach and walks, a new table and chairs for meal times, a bright light for the awning so I can see where I am going at night (it can get embarrassing in the dark, tripping over all the bags and shoes, suddenly hearing “aaahhh... clunk” coming from the tent...), new cutlery and crockery so I can leave the kitchen alone, a windbreak as will be camping in England after all, and a small cafetiere for those ‘stronger, real coffee’ moments. Nellie was extremely happy with all her new belongings and excitedly wanted to try them all, as soon as we were home. Us girls do like our shopping trips don’t we. Where will Nellie take us next...? Writing is a winner for Collegiate pupil Dorset Directories is proud to be sponsoring the GCSE and A-level English prizes this year at the Bournemouth Collegiate School. The winner of the GCSE English prize, Daniella Poll wrote the following piece inspired by ‘The beauty of the morning’ by Willian Wordsworth.
The wait. The anticipation. The roaring of my nerves scream inside of me and bleed through my ears; and I can’t control them. I’ve heard every story, every song, every whisper, every secret, I’ve seen the passing of time and watch history unravel. You would think that this would overpower me, weaken me even, but I have all this knowledge and I’m alone with it, so I doesn’t. I can’t. What does overpower me though is this simple ritual, even though I have been performing it all my life. For centuries and centuries I’ve been stuck on a loop. Like pressing play on a CD, it only stops when the final song has ended. But the music of nature is never-ending. It’s nearly time. The final corner of the black drooping curtain has lifted, allowing me to emerge onto my stage and perform. The wait is over. Cautiously I peep out, my nerves drive me forward despite this being a habitual performance, one which I’ve been performing for thousands of years. The spotlight is beaming over centre stage and I’m about to fill it. Hesitantly, I begin my entrance. Majestically I approach and the rumble of my audience is beginning to stir, I cannot disappoint them, nor will I. I radiate slothfully, branching out as far as the eye can see. I’ve also manipulated time, the ticking of every clock, the dong of every hour, that constant cycle of never ending rhythm; remind you of something? As I gaze out over my stage the frost scampers away, revealing a new day with it. The platoon of nodding daffodils stand to attention as the night owls turn their heads away. The dew begins to evaporate off the damp side of the ancient trees as they stretch their weakened branches in the crisp, bitter air. Together we have seen time unravelling and together we anticipate the future. And it’s my ritual that brings the future and breaths life for a new day.
The wriggle of their noses in the crisp, clean air floods me with content. Peeping out cautiously they crawl into a new day with trepidation. Uncurling from their dreams they squint in my paths, adjusting to their awakening. The rhythmic thudding of hooves against brittle leaves impersonating the heartbeat of life. The ground beneath your feet trembles, but you can’t feel it. It is preparing them for a day that’s yet to come and it’s what distinguishes them from you and you from them. They rise and fall together and live life to the rhythm of life’s heartbeat, in a performance only known to them. My skirt reaches out, warming the paths they’ll soon walk, guiding them silently into a new adventure. My skirt droops over the roofs of skyscrapers, sinking into the pavements below, diverging any shadows; frightened to radiate into the spaces of nothingness. They discover the buildings and stream through the panels of glass before bouncing off the conflicting windows, running through the city like a bullet fresh out of the barrel of a gun. Their power and beauty is unknown, appreciated by those only seeing beyond the norm. But they are limited. Limited to only a short amount of freedom per day. 12O’Clock. The finalisation of the morning. The end of my shining moment. The opaque clouds begin to wrap around me, discarding my view. Soon I will being my decent. Seeping into the horizon like paint splattered on the wall. Soon the moon will take my place. So for now I just hover and watch over as I protect my audience from the darkness that lurks in the shadows that I cannot fill. Glancing down at the bustle of life below, it should be busy and tiring, loud and exciting, complex and confusing, but silence. Only silence consumes me. I am the giver of life, my purpose so clear. I can so nearly feel it, yet I’ve never known the feeling of it. I am alone. So clearly seen yet so clearly far away. As the world turns I stay stagnant, I linger over the atmosphere as the intensity of my rays decreases with time. I am beginning to fade. Nonchalantly, yet prominent as ever. Daniella Poll

On Your Plot Courgettes
There are not many vegetables that are as rewarding, and easy to grow, as courgettes. Now is a great time to get them started, they’ll pop up quickly and soon be supplying you with more tasty courgettes than you know what to do with!
Jobs for May :-
• Keep on earthing up your potatoes to prevent the tubers from turning green. • If you’re planted peas don’t forget that they’ll need some support from sticks or netting that they can climb up. • With snow in April you’ll probably need to catch up with sowing crops that it was too cold for last month. • As the risk of frost passes, tender crops such as tomatoes or peppers can either be planted out, or on into grow bags. • Start winter greens such as cabbages, sprouting broccoli and Brussels sprouts in a seedbed for transplanting to their final positions later.
If you’ve lost seedlings or had trouble getting them started with all the cold weather don’t forget that you can always buy plants that have already been started. Buying young plants in is a great way to experiment with different varieties too - with so many types of tomato available it’s more fun to have several plants, each of different kinds, than half a dozen all the same. There’s a good plant stand at the monthly farmers market, and several garden centres or local growers nearby. May is the time to start off that wonderfully easy vegetable - the courgette. If you’ve never grown courgettes before then I can highly recommend it as they give such a high yield from even just a couple of plants. In fact that would be my main advice - don’t be tempted to grow too many or you’ll be inundated! Plant the seeds undercover or on a windowsill from the beginning of the month. Put two seeds to a pot, laying them on their sides and covering with about 1” of compost. They usually germinate in a week to ten days and grow
pretty rapidly. Remove the weaker of the seedlings (I always feel guilty when I do this! If it looks good I re-pot it). When the seedlings have four to 6 leaves start to harden off by placing outside during the day. Plant out after all risk of frost has passed. You can also start courgettes outside, directly into the bed in which they’ll grow but I’d wait until later in the month when the soil is a bit warmer. The plants will grow quickly, producing exotic looking yellow flowers (look out for recipes for the flowers too). For maximum yields the plants should be harvested regularly. Tiny courgettes are very tasty, and don’t be tempted too turn your back on the plants for too long as they grow large at an amazing rate! Be careful with watering when seedlings as the stems can rot, but they’ll need plenty of water once they have grown. If you’re short of space courgettes can be grown in grow bags, planting two to a bag. With summer in mind, don’t forget to keep planting your salad crops. As well as the traditional lettuce there are a host of other salad leaves that can be grown, and it’s usually possible to buy packets of mixed salad seeds. Get in the habit of planting some at least once a fortnight - use some of the leaves to cut and come again for tasty fresh salad, transplanting some lettuces outside and allowing them to grow on to full size. If you planted beetroot seeds out in March or April the chances are that they’ll have suffered with the very cold weather that we had last month. Another row sown now may well give you much better results. Fancy your own, home grown, Brussels sprouts with Christmas dinner? They need quite a long growing time, so think about starting them around now.

The Bells Ring Out Again For this month’s article we return again to the Wimborne Minster Parish Magazine, this time the editions from June and July 1911. The Minster’s bells had been silenced for four months in the first half of that year. The eight existing bells had been lowered and removed, recast and retuned, before being rehung. They were joined by two new bells, donated by Mr H.O. Chislett. The great tenor bell (also called St Cuthberga’s Bell) was first cast in around 1385, paid for by William Lorringe who was a Canon of the Minster. It was first hung in the central tower as the western tower would not be built for another 80 years. There were five bells until 1686. The third bell bears the inscription ‘I am the least bell here but to each little one its own charm.’ The peal was increased to eight in 1856 during restoration work. Fundraising for the work in 1911 included a series of concerts on behalf of the Minster Bells Fund, which raised £16. One of the concerts featured the violinist, Harriet Solly. The Bishop of Columbia dedicated the bells at a service on Wednesday 14 June and afterwards the subscribers to the fund were treated to tea in the Vicarage grounds. Little more than a week later, on the afternoon of Coronation Day (Thursday 22 June), a group of expert bellringers from various parts of the country, took up their stations in the bell tower. Over 3 hours and 37 minutes they rang a peal of Stedman Caters, which involved 5,079 changes.

Christchurch and Bournemouth will feature in new novel by local author Christchurch and Bournemouth feature in the new mystery thriller, The Grave Concerns of Jennifer Lloyd, from Bournemouth novelist, Ian Kingsley. Few fictional characters come over as strongly as those in this work, especially Jennifer Lloyd, a newbie television presenter out to make a name for herself by unmasking a murderer live on-camera—despite deaththreats. Book Viral summed the work up as ‘a fine melding of mystery thriller and contemporary fiction,’ in which ‘the author’s inspired touch allows for a timely infusion of humour’ in an ‘exceptionally entertaining’ book. In essence, it has the character depth you normally only expect of a contemporary novel mixed with the impetus of a thriller. From her abused and broken background, its narrator and protagonist, Jennifer Lloyd, needs a friend: the reader. And her close relationship with the reader is what allows her laconic humour to come to the fore. The American Midwest Book Review describes the work as ‘a powerful and compelling read that’s hard to put down.’ Readers will be entertained by the complexity of Jen’s life and mesmerised
by the twists and turns in this unusual page-turner. ‘Entertaining’ is the word which keeps cropping up in reviews, so it’s worth setting aside some time for a treat that offers the bonus of local flavour. The paperback is out in April, and an eBook during the summer. Many settings around Christchurch will be recognisable to locals. Kingsley’s first novel, Sandman, also had a local setting.

Tastes so good...
CREAMY BACON AND CHICKEN PASTA
If you’re struggling for a unique but simple recipe for either a dinner party or just a nice evening in, this is perfect. You can add garnish of your own or even any leftover basil to the finished dish for serving.
Ingredients for 4 servings 3 tbsp olive oil 5 rashers of bacon 3 large boneless chicken thighs 1 clove of garlic 300ml double cream Pinch of Salt Pinch of freshly ground black pepper Fresh basil (a handful) 450g farfalle pasta 200g cheddar cheese (grated)
Equipment: Large pan, frying pan Method: In a large pan, cook the pasta according to the packet instructions, adding a pinch of salt to the water. While the pasta cooks, heat the olive oil in a frying pan. Cut the chicken into strips and the bacon into small squares before adding to the pan. Cook for 3-4 minutes, until the chicken is golden brown. Crush the garlic clove and add to the frying pan with the chicken and bacon. Cook for a further minute. Season with salt and freshly ground pepper, then add the cream and warm through. Drain the cooked pasta before adding the creamy mixture into the large pan. Before serving, tear up the fresh basil and add to the mixture along with the grated cheese. Add some garnish for a finished look and enjoy!
