Welcome to Enrichment Week 2026!

In the penultimate week of the academic year, from Tuesday 7th July to Friday 10th July 2026, we are delighted to offer four days of Enrichment Activities for all students in Years 7–9. This programme forms part of our extra-curricular offer and provides valuable opportunities for students to learn beyond the classroom in engaging and meaningful ways. The activities are designed to inspire curiosity, build confidence, and develop new or existing skills. Many will encourage students to step outside their comfort zone, work collaboratively with others, and strengthen the personal qualities that support lifelong learning and success.

This booklet outlines all the activities available this year, including any year-group restrictions, costs, and required equipment. The contents page provides a quick overview to help you navigate the options. We have worked hard to keep costs as low as possible, and the Pupil Premium rate is shown next to the PP symbol for eligible students.

Please read through the booklet with your child and discuss which activities best suit their interests. As some activities have limited places, we ask students to select a first, second, and third choice Although we will do our best to accommodate preferences, places cannot be guaranteed.

General description of activities

Students will experience Brighton like never before!

Activity: All About Brighton

Learn more about the city we live in and spend time visiting some of the amazing attractions we have on offer!.

A likely itinerary will be as follows:

Day 1 – Tour of Brighton Pavilion and visit to the Sealife Centre

Day 2 – Crazy golf and Bowling

Day 3 – Zipline and i360

Day 4 – Time on the Pier

Purpose of activity

To learn about and visit parts of Brighton you may not have been to or heard about before. Find out more about the history of the city and see how it has changed over the years.

Other Information

Due to the nature of some of the activities, this option may not be suited to those with a fear of heights!

General description of activities

4 days of activities all about Animals & Wildlife!

Activity: Animals & Wildlife

Day 1 – A visit to Arundel Wetland Centre (WWF) where students will be involved in fun activities about wetland wildlife, as well as having time to explore the site in small groups.

Day 2 – A day trip to Godstone Farm.

Day 3 – Day trip to Drusilla’s plus a talk on animal care and conservation from one of the keepers.

Day 4 – A visit to school from ‘Reptylers’ who will bring a selection of snakes, lizards, tortoises, amphibians, spiders, scorpions and mini-beasts with them for students to interact with and learn about.

Purpose of activity

To learn about and experience different habitats and environments that animals and wildlife use and live in. Students will get hands on experience and further their knowledge various aspects around animal and wildlife conservation.

Equipment required

Packed lunch on each day. Suncream, sunhat, sunglasses and umbrella for shade (essential). Appropriate clothing and shoes for walking on uneven terrain.

General description of activities

Activity: Art of Nature Conservation

Four days of hands-on activities exploring a range of wildlife habitats, learning about different management techniques to increase biodiversity and experimenting with a range of creative artistic techniques to celebrate the natural world.

• Day 1: Introduction to nature and wildlife on the school campus exploring the woods, the pond and the butterfly haven.

• Day 2: TTrip to the Knepp Estate to see re-wilding in action. See storks, butterflies, insects, trees, plants and maybe even snakes! Drawing and taking photographs to use on final day.

• Day 3: Stanmer Park exploring the techniques of Andy Goldsworthy

• Day 4. Students will work with natural found materials to explore printing techniques. We will use tools to build and paint some benches for the school grounds so people can sit and enjoy nature.

Explore nature, be creative and learn new skills.

Activity: Blacklands Farm Camp

Students will spend 4 days, 3 nights at Blacklands Farm Outdoor Centre in East Grinstead. They will take part in several activities on site, including team building, high ropes, crate challenge, climbing, abseiling, zip wire, bungee trampoline, night line, bush craft to name just a few!

All activities are led by qualified instructors.

All food and accommodation will be provided.

Purpose of activity

Students will experience a range of outdoor activities, improving or learning new skills and building relationship with their peers.

General description of activities

Activity: Board Riders Club

Pupils will make a longboard style skateboard from basic materials and bought-in components.

This activity will suit pupils who are happy to work on practical activities in the workshop and who are happy to be involved as part of a team. Suits students who have experience of skateboarding.

Purpose of activity

To develop students’ love of designing, making and board riding culture.

General description of activities

Activity: Bright Brighton Artist Workshop

Spend 4 days with local artist Amber Elise. Known for her Bright, Bold and Optimistic approach, Amber has created some colourful and exciting work within Brighton & Hove and further afield. Her bold use of colour translates life experiences into striking formations in the form of large-scale murals and on canvas.

During the 4 day arts programme, students will learn new techniques, using clay, collage, assemblage and sculpture - with painting, drawing and sketching in between. Students will also learn how to make their own sketchbook and produce work to feature in the Dog & Bone gallery at Seven Dials!

Purpose of activity

To learn new techniques to help produce stunning pieces of artwork.

Activity: Computing

Students will spend 4 days in school, developing skills and taking part in a range of computing activities including:

• Creating arcade games

• Coding remote control robots

• Training an AI algorithm

Plus developing skills in computing.

To learn different aspects of computing and coding.

Activity: Cookery

Students will spend 4 days taking part in a range of cookery classes and food based sessions including:

Day 1: A day at Brighton Cookery School taking part in a workshop creating a 3 course menu based on a particular type of cuisine (TBC)

Day 2: Baking day. Series of workshops on savoury and sweet dishes by Cook Stars

Day 3: A cooking workshop at Brighton & Hove Food Partnership where students will ‘make their own takeaway’

Day 4: A day trip to Borough Market in London – discover all the tastes and smells of food from all over the world.

Purpose of activity

Learn new skills and techniques, experience professional kitchens and eat some tasty food!

Equipment Required

All ingredients and tuition will be provided. Students may require containers to take their food home with them each day.

Spending money for the day trip to Borough Market is not included so students would need this in addition.

General description of activities

Over 4 days students will take part in a number of workshops.

A likely itinerary (subject to availability) will include:

• Nature and experience writing based on a visit to a local park

• Children’s Books – planning our own

Activity: Creative Writing

• Write a Play in a Day – a visit from a professional playwright who will guide students through a series of exercises and challenges, creating short stories and scripts.

Purpose of activity

To develop students’ passion for writing across a range of forms.

Other information

Students will need to make their own way to and from external sites (based in Brighton & Hove).

Activity: Culture Vultures

Students will spend 4 days exploring historical and cultural attractions in the South East, including:

• Lewes Castle & Lewes Priory

• Arundel Castle

• Bodiam Castle

• Royal Pavillion & Museum

The days will include a mixture of workshops and self-led visits.

Purpose of activity

Immerse yourself in the local culture and history. Learn about these fascinating buildings and expand your knowledge!

General description of activities

Activity: Dance Workshops

Over 4 days students will take part in a mixture of dance workshops covering different styles of dance, including street dance, locking, hip-hop, waacking, breaking, afro, commercial and much more!

These fun and energetic sessions will be led by a qualified instructor from Streetfunk and take place in our own dance studio.

Purpose of activity

To learn and develop new dance techniques.

Activity: DJ Workshop

Run by an external provider ‘Tons of Sound’, students will spend 4 days taking part in fun filled workshops exploring different elements of DJing.

Tons of Sound believe music has the power to change lives. Their workshops focus on developing essential skills like confidence, communication, teamwork and leadership, all while fostering creativity and self-expression. Participants step into the world of DJ-ing, gaining a real understanding of what it takes to control the music, the atmosphere and the energy of an event.

A likely itinerary will include:

Day 1: Introduction, DJ Theory, Demonstrations, Deck Switching, Group Activity

Day 2: Effects & Transitions, Demonstration, Mixing Basics, Mixtape Prep, Group Activity

Day 3: Mixing Practice, Microphone Techniques, Mixtape Recording, DJ Battle

Day 4: Final Mixtape Recordings, Small Celebration Party, Graduation & Certificates

To try new things, learn more about DJ-ing and develop new skills

Activity: Dorset Residential

Buddens Activity Centre lies in the heart of the historic and beautiful Isle of Purbeck and the Jurassic Coast, boasting 96 acres of natural countryside, heathland, woodland and plantations. Students will have the opportunity to explore the natural environment and take part in a once in a lifetime activity programme in a stunning setting. This is a residential trip –transport, accommodation and food will be provided.

Activity: Enterprise Challenge

Students will spend 4 days working on a team-based project to explore how businesses work, developing their own product or service idea, and pitching it to industry professionals.

Day one: The Big Idea & Business Plan.

Teams formed and roles assigned (Project Manager, Finance, Marketing, Design, etc.), Brainstorming and selecting a final business idea, Planning costs, pricing, and production, Writing a short business plan and mission statement

Days 2 & 3: Research & Inspiration (days out)

How businesses attract and serve customers. Product design, pricing, and marketing in action. What makes some businesses stand out? Sustainability and ethical practices.

Day 4: Brand, Promote & Pitch

Designing a logo, slogan, and promotional materials

Creating and rehearsing a team pitch

Presenting to a judging panel

Prizes and certificates for winning teams

Purpose of activity

Learning how business work and developing skills that may help them progress in the future year group

A week of fun science activities on site in school,

Activity: Experiment Extravaganza!

Tuesday - Biology day: observing stomata using microscopes in different species of leaves, extracting DNA, moss safari, and an afternoon of medical science analysing urine samples and blood slides.

Wednesday - Chemistry day: rainbow fizz, cabbage indicator, flame tests and exciting explosions of methane bubbles, screaming jelly baby, elephant’s toothpaste! In the afternoon students will take part in a periodic table scavenger hunt around school.

Thursday - Physics day: make the slowest falling parachute competition, spaghetti bridges, static electricity and van de graaf, building electric cities.

Friday - Environmental science day: pond dipping and sampling pond water under the microscope, exploring butterfly haven and the school’s biodiversity, quadrats sampling, and a relaxing end to the week with David Attenborough’s newest documentary.

Purpose of activity

This is a chance for students to take part in hands on laboratory work beyond the school’s curriculum. Ideal for students curious about science and perhaps thinking of perusing a career in STEM!

General description of activities

Activity: Film Making Workshop

Over 4 days students will be taken from script to screen, culminating in the creation of a short film.

Students will write, film, perform and edit their films using top of the range equipment.

Students will work in small groups and the activity will be led by instructors from Silverbox.

To learn new skills, be creative and have fun!

Activity: Football Academy

Students will spend 4 days developing knowledge and understanding of the game.

The days will be broken down into skill development, team play and a tournament structure competition.

Purpose of activity

To develop your skillset and understanding of football.

Sports clothing, shin pads, football boots (suitable for the Astro Turf Pitch)

Activity: Forest School

Students will take part in 4 days of Forest School fun. Set within Stringer’s very own woodland, participants will have an array of activities to enjoy - such as:

• Building shelters

• Fire lighting skills

• Cooking over a campfire

• General campcraft skills

• Rope and knot work

• Forest games

Purpose of activity

To learn new skills and be involved in activities outside, experiencing nature in new ways. Students will strengthen their teamwork skills and develop self-confidence.

Equipment required

Outdoor activity wear, trainers or suitable shoes, waterproof jacket, possibly suncream and a hat if hot weather.

General description of activities

Activity: Golf

Discover the exciting world of golf in this four-day enrichment experience set across some of Brighton’s most scenic and friendly local courses.

Designed for budding young golfers, this programme combines skill-building, outdoor learning, and teamwork — all while enjoying the fresh coastal air.

The 4 days will include time on a driving range, sessions with a pro, mini tournaments, and lessons on technique with an award ceremony at the end.

Purpose of activity

• Introduce students to the fundamentals of golf in a supportive environment

• Develop key skills: coordination, concentration, and sportsmanship

• Encourage physical fitness and outdoor recreation

• Build confidence through practice, play, and friendly competition

Activity: Graffiti Workshop

Students will spend four days taking part in workshops put on by experienced artists from Graffiti Stars!

Activities will include drawing, designing, stencil making, spray painting individual graffiti pieces, large mural pieces, urban t-shirt designs, customising accessories (e.g handbags, trainers) with spray / leather paints, plus more…

To learn new skills and get creative!

Activity: Graphic Design & Photography

Students will spend 4 days developing creative skills on paper and in Photoshop. They will gain a better understanding of what graphic design is.

One day we will visit an exhibition in London.

Students will also go out on location to take photographs of Urban environments and then learn how to edit their photographs back in the classroom.

Students will be taught how to design a logo, then create an album cover for a band and an advert to go in a magazine to sell the album.

Purpose of activity

Develop creative skills and technical skills.

Equipment required

Mobile phone with camera OR a DLR camera and a charging lead to transfer the photographs. If students don’t have either of these, please get in contact and we may be able to lend a camera.

Students would take part in a variety of activities over the week, including:

• Playing Quidditch

• Making chocolate frog boxes; maruaders’ maps and other craft activities

• Making wands

• Writing spin offs/prequels to characters from the stories

• Quizzes and games

• Watching the films

• And go to the Harry Potter studios for a day during the week!

• to engage in an area that interests them and give them a sense of enjoyment of learning and creating

• to develop their imagination

• to work and socialise with students they have not met before

Activity: Hove Lagoon

Over the 4 days students will take part in a mixture of activities including:

• Windsurfing

• Wakeboarding

• Standup paddleboarding

• Land sports

• Raft building and racing

• Dinghy sailing

• Kayaking

Sessions will run from 8.30am – 3pm at Hove Lagoon.

Students will be responsible for their own travel to and from Hove Lagoon for the 4 days.

• Make new friends

• Have an adventure

Activity: Illustration workshop

Over 4 days students will take part in workshops and visits to galleries to further their knowledge on the art of illustration.

A likely itinerary (subject to availability) will include

• Visit to a gallery TBC (based on availability)

• Workshop with a visiting artist and experimenting with materials

• Story writing and illustrating using inspiration from the week

• Finishing off individual projects and potentially visit a local primary school to read through the created stories

During the week we will experiment with a range of materials and storytelling ideas to create an understanding of how images and text work together. We will collectively be making up a story and each pupil will create a body of work in a variety of materials, choosing their best piece to go into the book. At the end of the week, we will have a ‘full book’ that we will send off to get printed so they can have a professionally bound copy.

Learn new skills, be creative and try new things.

General description of activities

Students will learn how to build and program various Lego Robots using the latest Lego Spike Prime construction kits and software.

They will get an opportunity to design and build their own robots to compete against others.

Plus we will take a trip to Legoland to see how the professionals do it!

Students get to be creative by building their own robots and get a chance to learning coding in a variety of different settings

General description of activities

Activity: Marvel Avengers Academy

This is an activity for fans of Marvel films and comics. Across the four days, participants will learn how to write, draw, and produce their own superhero comics and characters. They will also get a chance to revisit the Avengers movies and learn the Hollywood tricks that can make Iron Man fly, Ant Man shrink and the Hulk incredible! And then they will get a chance to try out some of these special effects themselves when they create their own superhero (and future Avenger)

Purpose of activity

To immerse students in the world of Marvel Comics and Movies. Have a chance to create their own comics and movie special effects.

General description of activities

Activity: Multisports

Over 4 days students will take part in a mixture of activities and days out.

Day 1 & 2- Multiple rotation of alternative activities, to include, water polo, tag archery, foot golf, invasion, ultimate frisbee.

Day 3 & 4 – one day spent at Brighton Pier and one day spent at Chichester Watersports (inflatable aqua park, kayaking and paddleboarding)

Purpose of activity

Swimming, fitness, enjoyment, wellbeing, learing new skills.

Important Information

Students must be confident in the water and be able to swim at least 25m without stopping.

Activity: Onsite Carousel

Students will spend 4 days taking part in a mixture of onsite activities including:

• Hands on science

• Team challenges

• Alternative sports

• Design challenge

• Creative media

Purpose of activity

This activity gives students a well-rounded experience taking part in different hands on and fun challenges!

Activity: Paddling at Piddinghoe

Spend 4 days exploring a variety of fun waterside and water activities including:

• stand up paddle boarding,

• kayaking, canoeing,

• raft building,

• inflatable obstacle courses,

• beach volleyball

Purpose of activity

To build confidence with a variety of different water sports and to work as a team.

Important Information

Students must make their own way to and from Piddinghoe each day. The cost for this is not included in the price.

Learn to sail at Ardingly Activity Centre

Activity: Sailing

The first 3 days will be on the sailing course, learning how to sail with a professional trainer, at the Ardingly Activity Centre. The 4th day is a fun day trying out various water sports.

Purpose of activity

To learn to sail and work toward a qualification in sailing.

Activity: Science Fiction Week

A week for people who love science fiction! If you love exploring worlds that are yet to be or never were, then this is the week for you! We will be watching lots of films, visiting the IMAX and going to London to hear from people whose careers it is to talk and write about science fiction!

Students will spend 4 days taking part in a range of activities including:

• Trip to the British Film Institute in London for a lecture on science fiction and a screening and discussion of a science fiction film

• Trip to the IMAX in Crawley to see a science fiction film

• Watching science fiction films and series and discussing themes and issues within them

• Reading science fiction stories and creating our own sci fi stories!

Purpose of activity

An opportunity to let your inner geek out and enjoy a week exploring the wonders of the imagination that science fiction provides. year group Year 8 & 9

General description of activities

Over the 4 days students will learn basic silversmithing and jewellery making skills, including:

• Students will develop their skills in piercing (sawing) and filing with the materials.

• Students will design and plan the ring which they will be making

• Students will work on the soldering skills and will solder the final piece together.

• Students will finish off their piece and polish it using the correct equipment.

Purpose of activity

Students will take part in a creative activity and develop their skills using different equipment. They will also experience a sense of fun and wellbeing.

General description of activities

Activity: South Downs way

A series of walks that take in the beautiful scenery and surroundings that are part of the South Downs Way.

Each day will cover 5-6 miles including a stop for lunch. This activity will be led by an external qualified instructor.

Purpose of activity

Students would gain a wider understanding of the area they live in and some of the history surrounding it. They will also get some exercise/fresh air and improve their fitness.

Sensible footwear (walking boots or trainers). Appropriate clothing: waterproof jacket & trousers, (shorts or loose trousers). Packed lunch & drink

General description of activities

Activity: Stadium Tours

Each day we will visit one of the Big Sports Stadiums in London and take part in a stadium tour and a visit to a sports memorabilia museum.

We will travel each day by train from Brighton Station. Times will be confirmed.

Students will need to make their own way to and from Brighton Station each day.

Purpose of activity

To have the opportunity to follow the footsteps of where the sporting greats have played.

General description of activities

Students will spend 4 days creating a series of bakes onsite in D1

Activity: Stringer Bake Off

Each day will require students to produce a specified bake that is personalised.

Prior to the week, students will need to complete a baking journal, which requires them to plan their bakes, thinking about decoration, presentation, ingredients and equipment.

Purpose of activity

To give students the experience of working in a professional kitchen and develop their culinary skills.

Equipment required

Most equipment is provided by the school; however, students will need to bring any additional equipment that their individual bakes require (pre-planned in baking journal) and a container to transport their bakes home.

General description of activities

Activity: Stringer Sewing Bee

Run by experts from Brighton Fashion School students will spend 4 days working towards creating their own summer wardrobe.

Students will attend the workshops at Brighton Fashion School in The North Laines and learn how to thread and operate a machine, how to use and cut a pattern and how to create a bespoke outfit from their designs.

At the end of the course they would leave with a completed bespoke summer outfit with our deadstock designer fabrics

Purpose of activity

To try new things and develop new skills

General description of activities

Activity: Surf Camp

Students will travel via mini bus down to Devon. Days will include surf lessons (average 4 hours a day) with qualified instructors. Students must be able to swim.

Students will camp overnight each night.

Purpose of activity

• Students experience a water sport they may not have tried before or develop their existing skills.

• Residential camp allowing students to experience time away from home in a safe environment.

• Team building activities.

Equipment required

Tents and cooking equipment are provided.

Students need: sleeping bags, wetsuit (if owned; if not, they are available to borrow).

Activity: The Theatre Experience

Over 4 days students will take part in a number of workshops and visit theatres. locally.

A likely itinerary (subject to availability) will include:

• Backstage experience, Theatre Royal, Brighton

• Matinee theatre performance, Brighton (performance TBC depending on availability)

• Day of practical performance workshops in school

• National theatre live performance in the Hall, set in a box (based on play we see)

Purpose of activity

To see live and recorded theatre, see how a theatre works backstage, to see technical as well as the acted side of the industry.

General description of activities

Activity: Thrill Seekers

Students will spend 4 days visiting various theme parks and trying out the thrilling rides they have to offer.

Days out will include visits to:

• Thorpe Park

• Legoland

• Chessington’s World of Adventure

• Brighton Palace Pier

Purpose of activity

Experience a range of exciting rides in a number of different theme parks

General description of activities

Activity: Wargaming

Students will focus on the tactics, weapons, personalities and great events of warfare of one period of history, including the Napoleonic period and World War II aerial combat during The Battle of Britain.

Additional periods offered are likely to be Ancient warfare, the Punic Wars between Rome and Carthage and World War II ground warfare from the Eastern or Western Fronts.

For Each Period Planned:

• Students will watch a film and/or documentary informing them about the warfare/ notable events that took place in that period.

• Students will be able to take on the role of commanders to plan and fight battles using some war gaming rules.

• A selection of research books will be available for students to look at.

Purpose of activity

• To give students the opportunity to work as a team and as individuals, making decisions and carrying through plans.

• To obtain an overview of a particular period in history, major events / battles / persons involved.

• To possibly do some research and make a presentation.

• Technical skills will involve accurate measuring and developing an understanding of probability.
