The Dordt Difference In today’s business world, managers are looking for employees trained to think creatively when they make decisions and solve problems. A Dordt education will help you become a creative problem solver and a responsible and capable leader. Our comprehensive Christian Core Program provides a good context for learning foundational business principles and prepares you to find a job and have a positive influence in society. Faculty members in Dordt’s business program have many years of experience working in large and small companies. They’ll share what they’ve learned and take a personal interest in you and your studies.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES Dordt graduates have found positions in a wide range of businesses and nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and management information services. Over the past 10 years, more than 98 percent of our graduates have found jobs within six months of graduation. They have taken positions such as: accountant with Eide Bailey • commodity broker with BDF Investments • security representative with Citibank • network administrator with Blackwell Consulting • operations analyst with Wells Fargo After five years on the job, many alumni report that their broad-based, comprehensive education has given them the tools to advance more quickly than co-workers from more specialized programs. Some graduates have gone directly into M.B.A. and Ph.D. programs at schools across the country, including Harvard, Yale, Georgetown, Syracuse, Vanderbilt, California state universities, and the University of Iowa. Others have entered law school. The number of our students who pass the CPA exam on the first attempt is above the national average. In both 2010 and 2012, a Dordt accounting major was awarded one of the prestigious Sells Awards, which are presented annually to those who pass all four parts of the exam on their first attempt with an average score of 95.5 percent or higher.
CLUBS
THE PROGRAM Dordt’s business department offers a Christian understanding of economics and business. Our major prepares you for career opportunities in: management • integrated marketing • production • human resources • banking • portfolio management • sales • and more The business administration major offers emphases in: human resource management • marketing • finance • public administration • information systems • international business • construction management
The Dordt College Business Club runs an on-campus cafe and snack bar. The Dordt Capital Management Club manages a stock portfolio for the purpose of funding buisness scholarships. Business Center was built in 2002 and is located in the Campus Center.
The accounting major courses include: accounting • finance • business law • auditing • income tax • economics • computer science • mathematics Some students double major in business and accounting. Some choose an economics minor. Others combine a business or accounting major with a major in an area such as computer science or agribusiness. These combinations increase career opportunities and can be completed in four years. Our two-year administrative assistant degree prepares students for administrative support positions in any business. Our business education major combines education and business courses to prepare education majors who will teach high school accounting, business, economics, office procedures, and marketing courses.
INTERNSHIPS Many of our students participate in local, national, and international internships. Professors will help you learn to network and take advantange of internship opportunities that will help you explore career options. Some internship opportunities include: the Chicago Semester program • the European Studies Program • Semester programs in Washington, D.C., the Netherlands, and Nicaragua • Dordt’s international network of alumni
