As summer returns across our cities, I find myself reflecting on my first year at Dorchester Collection.

Over the past twelve months, I have spent time in many of our hotels and residences, in different seasons and in different parts of the world. What has become clear to me is that the atmosphere of Dorchester Collection is shaped first and foremost by the people who stay with us.

It is they who give each property its singular character. In London, friends gather on terraces as the city moves into its summer season. In Ascot, polo and picnics unfold across the meadow at Coworth Park. In Milan and Rome, evenings stretch into long dinners and lively conversation. In Beverly Hills, guests move between gardens, restaurants and celebrations beneath that unmistakable light, and at Hotel Bel-Air movie nights and barbecues on the lawn bring people together as evening settles in. In Paris, they fill salons and galleries with discussion, creativity and cultural energy. In Dubai, they pause together as the day closes beneath extraordinary sunsets.

Anselm Kiefer, one of the most influential figures in contemporary art, presents “Kiefer. The Women Alchemists” at Palazzo Reale, a monumental exhibition featuring 42 imposing canvases. The show honors female alchemists whose experiments helped shape early modern science, from Caterina Sforza—who spent her youth in Milan—to figures such as Isabella Cortese, Kleopatra, and Margaret Cavendish. “1913–1923: The Spirit of the Times” exhibition at Musée du Quai Branly explores how African and Oceanic arts first arrived in Paris and transformed Western perceptions of art. At Bourse de Commerce, “Clair-obscur” brings together works from the Pinault Collection to examine how light and shadow shape both image and meaning. Rooted in the legacy of Caravaggio and Francisco Goya, the exhibition traces chiaroscuro as a living language rather than a historical technique. Classic French technique meets contemporary creativity at Restaurant Le Dalí at Le Meurice. Set beneath a whimsical, Philippe Starck–designed interior and a hand-painted ceiling canvas by Ara Starck, it nods to its surrealist namesake. A weekly menu by chef Clémentine Bouchon honours tradition and clarity of flavour featuring dishes such as egg mayonnaise with tuna belly, homemade country terrine, beef bourguignon, and free-range chicken fricassee with seasonal mushrooms and vin jaune sauce.

The exhibition “Martin Schongauer” at the Musée du Louvre revisits one of the most admired German artists of the late Middle Ages. It brings together around one hundred works—including nearly all surviving paintings—tracing both his career and his wide influence across Europe for centuries. A Rooftop terrace with sweeping views of Rome’s skyline and lush greenery set the stage at Il Giardino Ristorante, the all-day dining restaurant of Hotel Eden. Here, the city’s historic charm meets contemporary culinary artistry.

Fearless, surreal, and radically inventive, Elsa Schiaparelli is celebrated in a landmark exhibition at Victoria and Albert Museum tracing the extraordinary evolution of her visionary couture house. Spanning from the 1920s to today, the exhibition brings together over 200 objects—including her most iconic garments, sculptural accessories, and daring collaborations with artists such as Salvador Dalí.

Another striking artwork from the “Frida: The Making of an Icon” exhibition at Tate Modern (also featured on page 18) is “Self-Portrait with Velvet Dress”, 1926. Frida Kahlo placed herself at the centre of her work, using symbolic imagery and vivid color, to explore themes of body, gender, and cultural heritage. At once intimate and mythic, her paintings redefined the self-portrait as a medium of cultural expression.

Under the hand of Martín Berasategui—Spain’s most Michelin-starred chef, authentic Basque cuisine comes alive at Jara in The Lana. The restaurant itself is a celebration of Berasategui’s native country, where warmth and passion turn each meal into a mesmerizing sensory journey.

At The Restaurant at Hotel Bel-Air, power lunches are defined by iconic classics like the endlessly celebrated Tortilla Soup, a favourite since 1980, and the “Nancy Regan ‘Chopped Salad’”, a finely balanced composition. The exhibition ‘100 Times Marilyn’ brings together works by Warhol, Rotella (pictured here), Galimberti, and a collective of contemporary artists, each paying tribute to the incomparable diva.

As Marilyn Monroe’s 100th birthday is celebrated, the golden legacy of her glamour shines anew at Hotel Bel-Air. In 1962, she posed for photographer Bert Stern at the hotel in the iconic “The Last Sitting”, producing thousands of images.
