Mayor Bermudez’s State of the City Address 2019: CONTINUING THE PROGRESS BY: DIANA BELLO ARISTIZÁBAL

nce again as it happens at the end of each year, Doral Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez delivered the State of the City address for 2019 on November 21st under the title: “Continuing the Progress” to highlight the achievements of his administration this year. “We are keeping our commitment to move forward,” said the Mayor during his intervention in the Council Chamber at City Hall in front of a full house audience. As a result of a team effort that includes all City of Doral departments and employees, these are the main accomplishments achieved this year:

FINANCES AND BUDGET Part of this year’s plan has been to continue focusing on fiscal responsibility through the Finances Department that in Mayor Bermudez’s words has “done a fantastic job,” making sure the City remains structurally balanced and putting taxpayers dollars to work without cutting services. “We are probably better off financially than we have ever been, and we have actually done this by keeping a millage rate that is the second-lowest in Miami-Dade county at 1.9 mills”. Also, the finances department received the GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the FY 2018-2019 Budget, and the City has obtained an AA+ rating on its long-term issuer credit and the City’s 2019 general obligation (GO) bonds issued by S&P Global Rating & Fitch Ratings, which is the second-highest rating. In an exclusive interview after delivering the address, the Mayor commented on this matter, highlighting the positive impact the issuance of bonds that voters agreed on will have in the City’s economy. “National studies have taught us that park system where each resident has access to 10 minutes, which is the goal we have here, increases the value of people’s properties by a minimum of 20 percent,” stated Mayor Bermudez. Other accomplishments and projects mentioned are: a 5-year financial plan to assist the administration in managing the City’s future growth, a reviewed and updated City’s Investment Policy, and streamlined internal financial services for contracts management, insurance tracking, and check and cash depositing.

HUMAN RESOURCES “This department makes sure we keep hiring the right type of people,” stated the Mayor when referring to this department. Among the events that happened this year, one of them was the promotion of Albert P. Childress from Deputy City Manager to City Manager, as well as of the Public Works Director. In the same line, 86 full-time and part-time employees were hired. On the other hand, the City of Doral received an Awarded Honor for the 2019 Healthiest Employers in South Florida for Medium Company by South Florida Business Journal, while the wellness offerings and education on benefit plan offerings helped reduce the

Medical Loss Radio by 18.6%. TECHNOLOGY AND COMMUNICATIONS City of Doral has been working hard towards increasing its efficiency in all fronts, especially the technological one, even more after being recognized as a smart city. “We continue to grow in our smart city initiatives to provide people and business first services and solutions that span the whole city.” Some of these initiatives include centralized surveillance camera storage for 300+ security cameras for all city facilities at the main data center (NAP), a system for records retention and management on the file servers, and the implementation of automatic vehicle location for PD vehicles. In addition to this, the City revamped the 311 System to increase user-friendly function and is currently working in the Development Services Software project that would allow users to apply for, pay for, and schedule inspections online. Regarding communications, some of this year’s advances include a performance dashboard that gives residents and City of Doral the opportunity to measure where the City is at bringing transparency, as well as the hiring of a constituent services coordinator that essentially has the role to pass on accurate information to residents. PUBLIC SAFETY AND CODE ENFORCEMENT Apart from having more tools to access information, enhance the human resources and manage our finances better, the City also improved this year in safety management. First, the City of Doral Divisional Emergency Operations Center (EOC) was opened to help prepare residents in a more efficient way for weatherrelated events. Also, the City has been increasing police visibility within school zones with the deployment of school resource officers at 12 schools in Doral and enforcing the law vigorously. According to Bermudez, “people are following the rules,” and traffic citations haven’t stopped as 36,362 traffic violations citations were issued during the Fiscal year 2018-2019. Other projects of the Public Safety department include the creation of a body-worn camera management unit, the addition of one police officer to the Motors and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Squad, the continuing community policing programs (2 Citizens Police Academies and 3 Youth Citizens Police Academies) and active shooter training and presentations. The Code Enforcement Department also had its share of accomplishments. The department extended the hours of operation for field personnel to 8 pm, exceeded 24-hour response time goal, and has initiated over 100 short-term rental and multi-family cases resulting in the issuance of over 75 citations. Doral Family Journal asked the Mayor in an interview what is his administration doing regarding security inside condominiums, as many cases of car theft have been

reported lately, and he stated that his office delivers documents at each condominium or association about how to work alongside the Police to resolve these problems. SENSE OF COMMUNITY During the interview with Mayor Bermudez, we spoke with him about how he sees the sense of community inside the council as externally many programs have successfully strengthen that area this year such as Adopt-A-Street, Keep Doral Beautiful Award, Mayor’s Citizens Government Academy, Mayor on the Move, We Don’t Do that Here or Put it Down. “This year, in particular, the council has been firmly united,” said the Mayor who took the occasion to remind residents that Doral belongs to all of us, not only elected officials. “We can all be part of the solution, and that is one of the things we will work on next year,” said Bermudez. This path is already in progress as this year, Doral was named an All-America City Finalist among 19 other municipalities at the Conference of the National Civic League in Denver. When asked about the secret to getting this recognition, the Mayor explained it was “because we are seen as a united city with a good quality of life.”

omo todos los años, una vez más el Alcalde de Doral, Juan Carlos Bermúdez presentó el Estado de la Ciudad 2019, el pasado 21 de noviembre, bajo el título ‘Continuando con el progreso’ con el fin de resaltar los logros de su administración este año. “Estamos cumpliendo con nuestro compromiso de avanzar”, dijo el Alcalde durante su intervención en la Cámara del Concejo, ubicada en la Alcaldía, frente a una sala llena. Como resultado de un esfuerzo mancomunado en el que participaron todos los departamentos de la Ciudad de Doral y sus empleados, estos son los principales logros de este año:

FINANZAS Y PRESUPUESTO

Parte del plan de este año ha sido continuar trabajando en la responsabilidad fiscal a través del Departamento de Finanzas que, según palabras del Alcalde Bermúdez, ha hecho “un gran trabajo” al asegurarse de que la Ciudad permanezca estructuralmente equilibrada y al obtener rendimientos sobre los impuestos pagados por los contribuyentes sin recortar los servicios. “Probablemente estamos mejor que nunca financieramente y esto lo hemos logrado manteniendo una tasa de millaje de 1.9, la segunda más baja en el condado de Miami-Dade”. Además, el departamento de finanzas recibió este año el GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Award por el presupuesto del año fiscal 2018-2019 y la ciudad obtuvo la calificación AA+ (la segunda calificación más alta) en su crédito de emisor a largo plazo y en los bonos de obligación general (GO por sus siglas en inglés) emitidos por S&P Global Rating & Fitch. En una entrevista exclusiva, el Alcalde comentó sobre este tema destacando el impacto positivo que la emisión de bonos, apoyada por los votantes, podría tener en la economía de la ciudad. “Los estudios a nivel nacional nos han enseñado que los sistemas de parques donde cada residente tiene acceso a 10 minutos, que es nuestra meta, aumentan el valor de la propiedad en mínimo un 20 por ciento”, aseguró el Alcalde Bermúdez. Otros logros mencionados son: Un plan financiero de 5 años para apoyar a la administración en el manejo del crecimiento futuro de la ciudad; una política de inversión revisada y actualizada; y servicios financieros internos para la gestión de contratos, el seguimiento de seguros y el depósito

de cheques y efectivo.

RECURSOS HUMANOS

“Este departamento hace que sigamos contratando a la gente adecuada”, aseguró el Alcalde. Entre los eventos importantes que marcaron este año están el ascenso de Albert P. Childress, que pasó de subgerente de la Ciudad a gerente, y el del director de Obras Públicas. También se contrataron 86 empleados de tiempo parcial y completo. Por otra parte, la Ciudad de Doral recibió el premio de honor en los Healthiest Employers in South Florida 2019, en la categoría de empresas medianas, otorgado por South Florida Business Journal. Por último, los proyectos de bienestar y educación sobre planes de beneficios ayudaron a reducir la Radio de pérdida médica en un 18,6%.

TECNOLOGÍA Y COMUNICACIONES

La Ciudad de Doral ha estado trabajando arduamente en aumentar su eficiencia en todos los frentes, especialmente en el tecnológico. Sin embargo, desde que fue reconocida como una ‘ciudad inteligente’ ese esfuerzo aumentó considerablemente. “Seguimos creciendo en nuestras iniciativas de ciudad inteligente que buscan proveer servicios de primera línea y soluciones a todos los residentes y negocios”. Algunas de estas iniciativas incluyen el almacenamiento centralizado de 300 cámaras de seguridad en todas las instalaciones de la ciudad en el centro de datos principal (NAP por sus siglas en inglés), un sistema para la retención y gestión de registros en los servidores de archivos y la implementación de la ubicación automática de vehículos PD. Adicionalmente, la Ciudad renovó el Sistema 311 con el fin de hacerlo más amigable para los usuarios y actualmente está trabajando en el proyecto de Software de Servicios de Desarrollo que permitiría a los usuarios solicitar, pagar y programar inspecciones en línea. Con respecto a las comunicaciones, algunos de los avances de este año incluyen un panel de

rendimiento que permite a los residentes y a la Ciudad de Doral medir cómo está la ciudad, aumentando la transparencia; y la contratación de un coordinador de servicios constituyentes, cuyo rol es transmitir con precisión información a los residentes.

SEGURIDAD PÚBLICA Y APLICACIÓN DEL CÓDIGO

Además de tener más herramientas para acceder a la información, mejorar los recursos humanos y administrar mejor nuestras finanzas, la ciudad también tuvo un buen desempeño este año en seguridad. En primer lugar, se inauguró el Centro de Operaciones de Emergencia Divisional (EOC) de la Ciudad de Doral para ayudar a que los residentes se preparen más eficientemente en las emergencias climáticas. Además, la Ciudad aumentó la visibilidad policial dentro de las zonas escolares con el despliegue de oficiales en 12 colegios de Doral y se ha mantenido estricta en hacer cumplir ley. Según Bermúdez, “las personas están siguiendo las reglas” y las citaciones de tráfico no se han detenido, ya que se emitieron 36,362 infracciones de tráfico este año. Otros proyectos del departamento de Seguridad Pública incluyen la creación de una unidad de gestión de cámaras corporal, la incorporación de un oficial de policía al Escuadrón de Motores y Vehículos Comerciales, los programas continuos de vigilancia comunitaria (2 Academias de Policía Ciudadana y 3 Academias de Policía Ciudadana Juvenil) y los entrenamientos de ‘active shooters’. El departamento de Aplicación del Código también alcanzó varios logros. En primera instancia, extendió

las horas de operación para el personal de campo hasta las 8 de la noche, excedió la meta de tiempo de respuesta de 24 horas y ha iniciado más de 100 casos de alquileres de corto plazo y multifamiliares emitiendo más de 75 citaciones. Doral Family Journal le preguntó al Alcalde en una entrevista qué está haciendo su administración con respecto a la seguridad dentro de los condominios teniendo en cuenta que últimamente se han reportado muchos casos de robo a automóviles. Al respecto, el dirigente afirmó que su oficina entrega documentos en cada condominio y asociación sobre cómo trabajar con la policía para resolver estos casos.

SENTIDO DE COMUNIDAD

Durante la entrevista con el Alcalde, le preguntamos sobre el sentido de comunidad dentro del concejo, ya que externamente muchos programas han fortalecido con éxito esa área este año, como lo son Adopt-A-Street, el Premio Keep Doral Beautiful, Mayor’s Citizens Government Academy, Mayor on the Move, We Don’t Do that Here o Put it Down. “Este año el concejo ha estado muy unido”, dijo el Alcalde recordando a los residentes que Doral nos pertenece a todos, no solo a los funcionarios electos. “Todos podemos ser parte de la solución y en eso

trabajaremos el próximo año”, anunció Bermúdez. Un terreno en el que Doral ya ha estado abonando, pues este año la Ciudad fue nombrada All-America City Finalist entre otros 19 municipios durante la Conferencia de la Liga Cívica Nacional en Denver. ¿Y por qué obtuvieron este reconocimiento?, según el Alcalde porque “somos vistos como una ciudad unida que tiene una buena calidad de vida”.

Along NW 79th Avenue

Doral will have a NEW SHOPPING and INDUSTRIAL CENTER EDDA PUJADAS @epujadas

The name of this project is “District 79”, and its goal is to bring commercial and economic benefits to our city in the 23.7 acres parcel that it will occupy.

oral will have a new shopping and industrial center, “District 79”, as it will be called. This new development was unanimously approved by the City of Doral Council after taking into consideration that it will bring benefits for the health, safety, economy, and well-being of our residents and visitors. We were informed of this by Maggie Santos, Communications and Protocol Manager for the City of Doral. She explained that this parcel is 23.7 acres and it is located along NW 41st street, between NW 79th Avenue and the Palmetto Expressway. This parcel will now be used for the construction of commercial and industrial spaces. “From these 23.7 acres, approximately 50,936 square feet will be used to build a large and aesthetic commercial area, an estimated 405,639 square feet will be destined to industrial use,” stated Santos. She also added that an important percentage of the construction will have open spaces, which will be decorated with gardens and green areas, giving the natural resources a good use. “District 79” will provide good access, connectivity and safe access; pedestrian crossings, traffic stops, sidewalks and squares. It will also display areas for public seating, decorative designs in the pavement and it will include pedestrian walkways in several areas in order to promote a welcoming environment. The company that applied to develop this new project in the City of Doral is 7777 Investments, LLC. Terra and Terranova 7777 Investment developers paid around 40 million dollars for the parcel more than a year ago. Terra is an active developer in Doral. Some of their projects include Doral Commons, an open commercial area that opened recently around NW 74th street and NW 107th Avenue; Modern at Doral

is another one of their developments, a singlefamily home community that is characterized by it modern design. Currently, the parcel in question is home to the regional headquarters and distribution center of PepsiCo and even when some time ago this was one of the sites considered by David Beckham and his group of investors as a site to build his football stadium, however this idea was later dismissed.

DISTRICT 79

Before the “District 79” project was approved by the City of Doral Council, it was reviewed and recommended for its approval by the Planning and Zoning Department. This department is responsible for the planning of the current and future developments of our city which guarantees that the development of the residential and commercial neighborhoods in our city are safe and of high quality. One of the fundamental aspects of the project and that was taken into consideration by the Planning and Zoning Department while analyzing it was that it was coherent with the standard contained in Section 53-184 ( c ) (3) of the Land Development Code of the City of Doral. “It was determined that “District 79” was consistent with the City of Doral Comprehensive Plan and with the industrial categories within the city. Taken also into consideration was the balance that it provides to the mixed use between commercial and industrial spaces and in agreement with the density of the area.” states Santos. Another of the considerations that was taken into account for the approval of this project is that it promotes a better design of this area. Santos commented that this plan

comprises 15.89% of open spaces, these will be integrated by areas with gardens, green areas, walkways and even a rainwater collection system. “All of these components will make of this space a much nicer place than what it is now.” This project also allows for its efficient integration to the area. The connectivity plans of “District 79” will allow for a better traffic flow and they will develop walkways, squares, and sidewalks that will promote an urban style and this will bring life to the intersection of NW 79th Avenue and NW 41st street. Maggie Santos commented that “District 79” will complement the industrial district of the City of Doral and will stimulate the residential growth of the community because it will create new economic and commercial opportunities along NW 79th Avenue due to the fact that it will bring several stores, restaurants and businesses to the city. The design of “District 79” also ensures the harmonious relationship between buildings, neighborhoods and adjacent uses. It also takes into consideration the decorative aspects of the sidewalks, pedestrian walkways, outdoor areas and seats for the restaurants. This aesthetic planning will work in benefit of the health, safety and wellbeing of the residents of Doral and its visitors. After analyzing all of the above, it is expected that the approval of this project will contribute to the economic and commercial development of Doral by giving a more productive use to the existing land.

oral tendrá un nuevo centro comercial e industrial, denominado “Distrito 79”, cuyo desarrollo fue aprobado unánimemente por el Concejo Municipal de la Ciudad de Doral tras considerar que trae beneficios para la salud, seguridad, economía y bienestar de nuestros residentes y visitantes. Así lo informó Maggie Santos, gerente de comunicaciones de la Ciudad de Doral, quien explica que se trata del sitio comprendido en la parcela de 23.7 acres ubicada en la calle 41 de Doral entre la 79 avenida y la autopista Palmetto, la cual ahora será utilizada para la construcción de locales comercial y espacios industriales. “De los 23.7 acres, aproximadamente 50.936 pies cuadraros serán empleados para una amplia y estética área comercial y un estimado de 405.639 pies cuadrados se destinarán a uso industrial”, señaló Santos, quien agregó que un importante porcentaje de la construcción tendrá espacios abiertos decorados con jardines y áreas verdes, haciendo uso de los recursos naturales. “Distrito 79”, proporcionará circulación, conectividad y acceso protegido, cruces peatonales, paradas de tránsito, aceras y plazas. Igualmente, contará con áreas de asientos públicos, diseños decorativos en el pavimento y se ubicarán paseos peatonales en diversas áreas para proveer un ambiente acogedor. La empresa que aplicó para construir este nuevo proyecto para la ciudad de Doral es 7777 Investments, LLC. Los desarrolladores, Terra and Terranova’s 7777 Investment pagaron hace más de un año alrededor de $40 millones de dólares por el sitio.

Terra es ya un desarrollador activo en Doral, donde sus proyectos incluyen Doral Commons, un área comercial abierta recientemente en las adyacencias de la calle 74 con la 107 avenida y Modern Doral, una comunidad de casas unifamiliares, caracterizadas por el diseño moderno de su construcción. Actualmente, esta propiedad alberga la sede regional y el centro de distribución de PepsiCo y si bien, anteriormente, se pensaba que este espacio era uno de los sitios que David Beckham y su grupo de inversionistas estaban contemplado para construir su estadio de fútbol, esta idea fue descartada.

DISTRITO 79

Antes de que el proyecto “Distrito 79” recibiera el visto bueno por el Concejo Municipal de la Ciudad de Doral, fue revisado y recomendado para su aprobación por el departamento de zonificación y planificación, que es el responsable de planificar el desarrollo actual y futuro de nuestra localidad, garantizando el desenvolvimiento seguro y de calidad de vecindarios residenciales y comerciales. Uno de los aspectos fundamentales que fue tomado en cuenta por el departamento de zonificación y planificación para su análisis fue que el proyecto mantuviese coherencia con los estándares contenidos en la Sección 53-184 (c) (3) del Código de Desarrollo de Tierras de la Ciudad de Doral. “Se determinó que el proyecto “Distrito 79” tenía consistencia con el Plan Integral de la Ciudad de Doral y con la categoría de uso industrial, contemplando, además, el balance que proporciona el uso mixto, entre espacios comerciales e industriales, acorde con la densidad de la zona”, comenta Santos. Otra de consideraciones tomadas en cuenta para aprobar este proyecto es que promueve un mejor diseño de este sitio. Indica Santos el plan comprende 15.89% de espacios abiertos, integrados con desarrollos de jardines, áreas verdes, caminerias e incluso, un sistema de manejo de colección del agua de lluvias. “Todos estos componentes harán de este espacio un lugar

mucho más agradable”. Este proyecto también se integra de una manera más efectiva con su entorno. Los planes de conectividad de “Distrito 79” permiten una mejor circulación, al desarrollar caminerias, plazas y acercas que promueven un estilo urbano y que activará significativamente la intersección entre la 79 avenida y 41 calle. Comentó Maggie Santos que “Distrito 79” complementa el distrito industrial de la ciudad de Doral y estimula el crecimiento residencial de la comunidad, al crear nuevas oportunidades económicas y comerciales, a lo largo del corredor de la avenida 79, al atraer una gran variedad de tiendas, restaurantes y negocios a nuestra localidad. El diseño de “Distrito 79” garantiza, igualmente, la relación de armonía entre edificios, usos y vecindarios adyacentes. Igualmente, toma en cuenta los aspectos decorativos en las aceras, caminos de peatones, asientos y áreas externas de los restaurantes. Esta planificación estética también actúa en beneficio de la salud, la seguridad y el bienestar de los residentes de Doral y sus visitantes. Se espera, entonces, que la aprobación de este nuevo proyecto contribuya al desarrollo económico y comercial de Doral, al hacer un uso productivo de sus terrenos.

El período de inscripción abrió el pasado 1ero. de noviembre y se extiende hasta el 15 de diciembre de 2019, tiempo durante el cual podrá obtener la cobertura que necesita para el próximo año, empezando el 1ero. de enero. Después del 15 de diciembre sólo podrá registrase si califica para el período especial de inscripción. Para calificar tendrían que haberse presentado cambios en su vida como que haya contraído matrimonio, tenido un hijo, adoptado o colocado un niño para su cuidado temporal, divorciado y perdido su seguro, haya fallecido alguien de su familia y como resultado usted ya no es elegible para su seguro o se haya mudado (debe implicar cambio de condado y código postal) o que esté llegando a Estados Unidos desde el extranjero. Recordemos que la Ley de Protección al Paciente y Cuidado de Salud Asequible (mejor conocida como Obamacare) fue promulgada con carácter de ley por el presidente Barack Obama el 23 de marzo del 2010. Esta ley exige a la mayoría de los adultos no cubiertos por un plan de salud, ya sea proporcionado por sus empleadores o patrocinado por el gobierno, que mantengan una cobertura médica, pues de lo contrario serán penalizados con una multa. La agente de seguro Angela Rosso, explica que, para ser elegible para inscribirse en este plan de seguro, debe vivir en Estados Unidos y ser ciudadano o residente legal. “Igualmente, puede calificar si tiene un estatus legal en proceso, es decir, debe tener un caso migratorio abierto y aunque un no haya recibido su permiso de trabajo, si ya tiene un Alien Number (por su denominación en inglés) y ha recibo la forma I797-C, mejor conocida como carta de antorcha, ya puede aplicar”. Es importante destacar que si usted ya disfruta de Medicare, no puede usar Obamacare para comprar un plan médico dental o de seguro suplementario. Otro factor ha tomar en cuenta es que, debe tener un ingreso mínimo anual de $12,500 para calificar y el máximo va a variar de acuerdo a su número de dependientes. Rosso también señaló que los beneficios a recibir en este plan de salud son considerados un crédito fiscal, por lo que el aplicante debe realizar sus impuestos, bien sea empleado de una empresa, trabaje por su cuenta o

Debe suministrar los datos de cada persona en su hogar, incluyendo a los que no solicitan cobertura. Generalmente, su hogar incluye el declarante de impuestos y sus dependientes fiscales, pero hay excepciones y puede requerirse información de personas que viven con usted que no se encuentran en su declaración de impuestos. Doral gets set for the HOLIDAYS

he City of Doral is hosting a variety of free holiday events during December that will bring fun and cheer to the community. The first event is Park & Tree Lighting, on December 6th, from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm, Downtown Doral Park. It is an evening in which thousands of lights will illuminate Government Center and Downtown Doral Park to start the festivities. There will be holiday sweets and a hot chocolate drink cart. There will be also family-friendly activities and live performances. Children can take part in various arts and crafts, as well as having the opportunity to write a letter to Santa. Mrs. Claus will also be there to join the kids for storytime. Doral will bring snow, Santa, and holiday cheers with the biggest event, Holiday Lights & Ice on Dec. 13, at Doral Central Park from 6 p.m. The night will be filled with snow piles and snow in the air, that will make Doral Central Park become into a Winter Wonderland with 85 tons of snow to play and for all families to enjoy! There will be carnival rides, food, musical performances, and more family-friendly activities. There is no age limit to have fun during this event... Admission to this event is free, however, unlimited-ride wristbands will be pre-sold for $5 (*$10.00 minimum for credit card (Visa or MasterCard). Consider making donations with appreciated stock you have owned over one year. You can typically receive the higher value donation without paying capital gain taxes. Also consider non-cash donations of items in good or better condition. But pay attention to your total deductions. With higher standard deductions, you should use your charitable giving to ensure you can maximize your tax savings. This may mean making next year’s donations this year! Make contributions to your qualified retirement plans. Remember there is still time to make contributions to traditional IRAs, SEP IRAs and 401(k) accounts to reduce your taxable income this year. While you’re at it, take a look at next year’s limits and plan to increase your contributions to make next year’s tax obligation even better than this years.

Take distributions from your retirement accounts. If you are over 70 1/2 years old you will need to take required minimum distributions. The penalty for not taking minimum distributions is 50%. But if you are over 59 years old you should also be taking distributions from tax deferred accounts in the most tax efficient way possible. This may mean taking some money out, even it you do not quite need it now.

Art and Nature Collide at Arte y Naturaleza se Encuentran the 2019 “DORAL ART & en el “DORAL ART FLOWERS FESTIVAL” & FLOWERS FESTIVAL” de 2019

urante la Semana de Art Basel, el Parque Doral Legacy se transformará en un jardín moderno e instagramable para el Festival de Arte y Flores de Doral producido por Yola Guz y Ruben Consa, de la Escuela de Diseño Floral YOLA GUZ. Siendo el mayor centro de la industria floral en los Estados Unidos, la ciudad de Doral se enorgullece de patrocinar el festival, ahora en su segundo año, para promover la industria floral local y crear conciencia sobre el uso de elementos florales como medio artístico. uring Art Basel Week, Doral Legacy Park will be transformed into a modern and “Instagrammable” garden for the Doral Arts & Flowers Festival produced by Yola Guz and Ruben Consa, from the YOLA GUZ School of Floral Design. As the largest floral industry hub in the United States, the City of Doral is proud to sponsor the festival, now in it’s second year, to promote the local floral industry and raise awareness in the use of floral elements as an artistic medium. The exhibit will be inaugurated with a ribbon cutting and opening gala, on December 6th at 6:00 p.m., with special appearances from the Mayor, City Council and participating artists. On December 7th, workshops will be available for kids interested in floral craft, and adults who want to learn how to make a floral bouquet and tips of the latest trends of events and floral design. The exhibit will culminate with an awards presentation on December 8th. The impressive artistic compositions displayed are created by local florists and artists. Sculptural pieces of art created with flowers, plants and organic elements using unconventional materials such as steel, aluminum and wood will adorn the interior and exterior of the community center and park. This year’s event is engaging the community and its youth, by partnering with local schools to exhibit at the festival. Ruben Consa is the imagination behind the festival, intended to promote flowers as art, as well as promoting Doral’s booming floral industry.
