On the cover...ChatGPT (Ai)...we asked you to send in an Ai version of yourself with your bike. You can check out some of the ones sent in to us on pages 26-27. We couldn’t include them all because so many were sent in to us but we included a few.

We are always open to clubs or groups sending us their stories and photos from their events and fundraisers. We will be glad to include the event info in our EVENTZ section, for free. Remember, if you send us a flyer, make sure all of the info is on it. Especially the complete address with city, state and your contact info. Many bikers like to take long rides and go to events that are more than 10 miles away! But they might not know where you are if you don’t inlude city and state. On top of that, most people do not take the time to look up an address. If there isn’t any contact info they might not attend because of questions they may have...just a thought.

Just a reminder that Behind Barz Mag can bee seen and read on the web. We were the first motorcycle e-magazine in N.C. Our ad rates are unmatched by ANYONE in the motorcycle realm! In Memory of Gary Tant

7 February 26

Six years later friends and family gathered at Old School Bike Shop and Old School Detail in Louisburg, N.C., for a day of remembrance and fellowship.

It was a cold, windy Saturday when everyone came together to honor the memory of Gary Tant, owner of The Biker Barn, who passed away in February 2020. Gary was a dear friend to many, and his presence is still deeply missed.

A great crowd showed up and brought amazing home - cooked food—just like always, it felt more like a family reunion or homecoming than anything else. George fired up the grill and cooked his famous chops, along with several side dishes. And of course, he topped it all off by making his almost-famous Sweet Tater Brownies.

Thank you to everyone who came out, shared a meal, and spent time reminiscing about Gary, The Biker Barn, and all the good times. It truly meant a lot.

BLUE KNIGHTS NC XXI

BLUE KNIGHTS XXI

Blue Knights XXI wants again to thank Behind Barz for providing outreach to the Motorcycle Community. Our chapter was busy during the end of 2025. We prepared and sold Boston Butt Plates in November for the Cops and Kids Fundraiser. In December we assisted the NC FOP Lodge 46 and shopped for XX families for Christmas. Our chapter joined Blue Knights II, and XII for our annual New Year’s Day ride to Parkers’ BBQ and enjoyed fellowship.

Blue Knights II, Blue Knights XII, and Blue Knights XXI will be hosting the Blue Knights Mason Dixon conference in Rocky Mount May 1-3, 2026. There will be merchandise tents, hospitality room, indoor pool, Flying Iron HD across the parking lot, live music, Officer Down Ride on Sat, Round Table Discussion, “pig Pickin” Dinner, 50/50 raffles, auction items and a whole lot more!

The Blue Knights® International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, is a non-profit fraternal organization consisting of active and retired law enforcement officers who enjoy riding motorcycles. Founded in 1974 by officers in Bangor, Maine (USA), we have since grown to become an international organization that has participated in countless rides and contributed millions of dollars to various charities worldwide.

The Blue Knights Mason Dixon Conference is comprised of the states of Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. At the present time, our conference is home to 57 chapters and over 1678 members.

Change Your Focus...You Just Might

I enjoy riding with my husband. I really do. However, it didn’t take me long to figure out that backwarming on the bike is an entirely different experience than shotgunning in a car. When I first began riding with my husband, I would feel a sense of unease when I climbed on the bike. Once I was seated, I would find myself reaching for something. It took me a while to figure out what it was. The seat belt. The first thing you do in a car is buckle up. On a bike, no buckle up…just suck it up.

Once I got used to the freedom of riding, I quickly learned something about myself. I am not an adrenaline junkie. Watching oncoming cars (and trucks!) whiz by us on our left does nothing to help me enjoy our rides. I trained myself to keep my eyes (mostly) focused on the view on our right side. We live in a rural area and tend to stick to the less traveled roads when we ride, so there is usually a beautiful vista on our right: woods, fields, lake. Each season presents its own kaleidoscope of colors to enjoy: the first signs of green in the spring, the lush trees and crops of summer, the warm colors of the changing trees in autumn, and winter…well, winter looks good from inside our home.

However, holding my head in one position without much variation can be tiring, so once in a while I do take a look around. I may check out the mirrors. I might even peek at the speedometer (usually when I suspect its needle is a bit too high for my liking). Then on one ride, for no reason in particular, I looked straight ahead. My field of vision was almost completely filled with myhusband’s helmet, which is black. It didn’t take long for me to realize why I hardly ever face forward.

Looking at nothing but my husband’s helmet obstructed my view so much that it made me uncomfortable. It felt like there was a big black hole in the middle of my field of vision. I felt detached from all that was going on around me because I could hardly see anything — and we all know that the last thing you want to feel while riding on the back of a bike is detached.

There are places in life where we feel detached, too. The grief of loss, the bitterness of betrayal, the anger of abandonment. Any one of our emotions can try to grab our attention and keep us focused on the big black hole of our own pain. If we don’t change that focus, those ugly emotions will loom so large that they prevent us from seeing all the blessings around us.

Focusing on my husband’s helmet wasn’t helpful for me. Focusing only on our pain isn’t helpful, either. We miss a lot of the blessings in our life when we focus all our attention on the things we don’t consider blessings.

The very best blessing in our life is just that: life. When God breathed the breath of life into Adam in the garden of Eden, Adam became a living soul. Not just a body. And since God is eternal, it stands to reason that the soul He breathed into us is eternal, too. That means that our physical life may end at some point, but our souls will live beyond our time here on earth.

Since our souls are eternal, but our bodies are not, then death is not “the end.” It’s just a doorway. Our bodies are left on this side of that doorway, but who we are walks through it.

Jesus died so that you could have a choice on where that door leads. Either

that door opens to heaven, or it opens to hell. If you don’t choose one, you choose the other by default. There are no other options..

And time is running out. Don’t wait until tomorrow, or after the next party, or after the next ride. Newsflash: There’s no guarantee you’ll live to the “next” anything. Choosing hell is easy. Just ignore Jesus’ gift. But choosing heaven? That takes some thought.

Will asking God to be your Savior change your life? You bet! Sometimes God makes the change quickly, like delivering my husband from the desire to smoke overnight. Sometimes He peels off the “stuff” we’ve wallowed in one painful layer at a time. However, not once have I ever regretted the changes He has made in me. I don’t recall anyone I know ever expressing regret about asking Jesus to be their Savior.

That should tell you something.

“So repent [change your inner self— your old way of thinking, regret past sins] and return [to God—seek His purpose for your life], so that your sins may be wiped away [blotted out, completely erased], so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord [restoring you like a cool wind on a hot day];”

YA’LL I am so proud of myself I RODE the Tail of The Dragon...11 miles and 318 curves!!! What an experience!!! Was I scared? Heck YES!! But I did it and didn’t die or have any of my bike parts put on the tree of shame. Good ol’ Lucy took care of me. I also rode the Foothills Parkway and up and over the Smoky Mountains (about 170 miles of curves total for the day) I’m still alive and just a little mishap as we got back to the trailer which ended in a little scuff in my crash bar. Crazy that I only bought my bike one year ago today and have only been riding little under a year. Was a great day with an awesome riding partner.

Blue Knights

NC Chapter 2 Wake county

Blue Knights NC2 Launch “Kids & Hockey” Program to Give

Back to Local Families

The Blue Knights NC2 Chapter has always believed that service doesn’t stop when the uniform comes off. It simply changes form. That belief is at the heart of a new community initiative we are proud to share: Blue Knights Kids & Hockey.

This program was created with a simple but powerful goal— giving local children and their families an experience they might never otherwise have. Through the generosity of Carolina Hurricanes season ticket holders, donated tickets are being matched with children from the Wake County area so they can attend a Hurricanes home game with a parent or guardian.

The focus is on underprivileged children who would otherwise never have the opportunity to attend an NHL hockey game. These children are identified through coordination with Wake County law enforcement agencies, local churches, and family service organizations to ensure the tickets go to those who will truly benefit from the experience.

Blue Knights NC2 serves as the coordinator for the program and covers the in-arena experience for each family. That includes food for the game through an arena cash card, as well as a souvenir hockey puck—small touches that help turn a night at the rink into a memory that lasts far beyond the final buzzer.

The program officially launched as a trial run during the 2025–2026 season, with games scheduled from January through April. Even in this initial phase, the impact has been clear. Since the program’s launch, one child has already attended a game through Blue Knights Kids & Hockey, and additional donated seats are now available—allowing even more children and families to attend future Hurricanes home games.

The success of this first season has exceeded expectations. The enthusiasm, generosity, and support from everyone involved—from ticket donors to community partners—has been nothing short of incredible. Because of that success, planning is already underway for the next season.

Looking ahead to the 2026–2027 season, the goal is to expand the program to bless at least one family each month from

October through April, with participation from every Wake County law enforcement agency. What began as a simple idea has quickly grown into a model for meaningful community engagement.

It’s important to note that this initiative is entirely a Blue Knights NC2 effort. While the games themselves take place at a professional venue, this program is not affiliated with or sponsored by the NHL, the Carolina Hurricanes, or the arena. This is simply Blue Knights NC2 giving back to the families of our community—quietly, respectfully, and with purpose.

As the program continues to grow, our hope is that it inspires other Blue Knights chapters to consider similar initiatives in their own communities. The model is simple, the cost is modest, and the impact is lasting.

At its core, Blue Knights Kids & Hockey is about connection—between officers and the communities they serve, between generosity and gratitude, and between a child and an experience they’ll never forget. It is one more way the Blue Knights NC2 Chapter continues its commitment to service beyond the badge.

4 National Parks

If you’re riding in the Washington, D.C. area, it’s entirely possible to tag four National Parks in under six hours — depending on how often you kill the motor and soak it in. This is not a high-mileage day; it’s a ride built around history, river roads, and pauses that mean something. Start at Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington. It’s not a national park, but it’s worth the stop before pointing north toward one of the most history soaked ribbons of pavement on the East Coast.

George Washington Parkway

Pulling onto the George Washington Parkway, a 25-mile federally protected ribbon of asphalt hugging the Potomac, the ride settles into an easy, unhuried rhythm. This is not a road built for speed—it’s built for flow. Long sweepers, clean pavement, and river views that sneak into your peripheral vision make it one of those rare roads where the ride itself matters as much as the destination The parkway was designated in 1930 to honor Washington’s legacy and the historic sites lining the river, and that sense of place never fades. Running parallel to the capital, the skyline unfolds naturally - the Washington and Lincoln Monuments, the Trump - Kennedy Center, and the spires of Georgetown all lining up as the city drifts by to your right.

Theodore Roosevelt Island

Just beyond the monuments, the parkway slips past Theodore Roosevelt Island—one of D.C.’s most overlooked yet meaningful stops. Dedicated to a president defined by grit, conservation, and forward motion, it’s a fitting pause for riders who appreciate history earned the hard way. When parking cooperates, it’s worth shutting down the bike and taking the short walk to reflect on a leader who understood both wild places and the

value of a rough road. The memorial plaza sits at the Island’s high point, completed in 1967, with Roosevelt cast mid-speech and his words carved into surrounding stone—less ornate, more honest, much like the man himself.

After leaving Roosevelt Island, the George Washington Parkway eventually runs out, funneling riders onto I495 North and across the Potomac via the American Legion Bridge. It’s a short, necessary stint before dropping back into something better—the Clara Barton Parkway— where signs for the C&O Canal and Glen Echo National Park start pulling your attention back away from traffic and toward history again.

C&O Canal National Historical Park

The next stop is the C&O Canal National Historical Park, a long, narrow slice of American history running parallel to some of the region’s best low-speed, high-reward riding. Old towpaths, stone locks, and quiet pull-offs sit just off the road, offering natural places to breathe between throttle inputs. It’s the kind of corridor riders instinctively gravitate toward—not flashy, not fast, just loaded with character.

The canal stretches more than 180 miles from Washington, D.C. to New Cumberland, Maryland. On this ride, you’ll only sample the early locks and historic sections, but there are countless places to stop, walk around, and let the past catch up with you.

I’ve been picking these stops off slowly, documenting which ones play nice with motorcycles, and there’s still plenty of canal left to ride.

Glen Echo National Park

The final stop is Glen Echo National Park, tucked just off the Clara Barton Parkway. What began in 1891 as a school and later became the D.C. area’s premier amusement park now stands as a quiet, character-rich place layered with history. It’s an easy detour for riders and a fitting last stop—one more reminder that some of the best parts of a ride are found just beyond the main road.

Glen Echo also includes the Clara Barton National Historic Site, honoring the founder of the American Red Cross. Designated a national park in 1976, it now sees hundreds of thousands of

Parks in 6 Hours

visitors a year—but on a bike, arriving here still feels personal, like you found it on your own.

End of the Day

By the time the bike cools down at Glen Echo, it’s clear this ride was never about stacking miles or chasing speed. It’s about moving through layers of American history on roads that reward patience, awareness, and the simple act of rolling forward. Four national parks, a handful of quiet pulloffs, and a ribbon of river road later, you’re reminded why motorcycles belong in places like this. Not to rush through them—but to experience them fully, one curve, one stop, one moment at a time.

I Just Want 2 Ride... I started riding at 5 years old, before I could ride a bicycle. Recently retired for the second time, my wife and I live in southeast Ohio right across the river from West Virginia.

Livin' The Life

YOU ARE NOT ALONE...

Stage 3 cancer. Twice.

And I still choose to throw a leg over this bike.

Stage 3 colon cancer in 2022. Stage 3 prostate cancer in 2024.

Same aggressive cells. Same fear.

I spent a month at Cleveland Clinic. First a surgery to protect other organs. Then high-dose radiation.

My body is weaker now. My balance, my energy, my nerves… all different.

I can’t ride the way I used to. No more big hits. No more off-road. The strength isn’t there.

But I’m not done riding.

These days it’s my Ultra Classic. Local rides when my body allows. Long-distance trips when I’m strong enough.

Out here on the road, there’s a kind of peace I can’t find anywhere else. The wind doesn’t erase my pain, but it takes the edge off.

I believe God let me survive cancer twice so I could show someone this:

Your story doesn’t end with your diagnosis. Your dreams might change shape, but they don’t have to die.

I believe the moment you stop chasing your dreams, you start letting go of life.

If you’re in a fight like that right now, you’re not alone.

Biker NEWZ and TIDBITZ

The Rat Hole, a popular Myrtle Beach area biker bar known to host events and draw thousands of motorcyclists for bike rallies each year has closed. The Rat Hole announced on Facebook that it had decided to roll down their bar doors for the final time, following the 2025 fall Myrtle Beach Bike Rally.

The bar had been a go-to for bikers and visitors who rolled into the Myrtle Beach area and Murrells Inlet for the annual spring and fall bike rallies in SC. It was known for its live music, biker rodeo and pudding wrestling.

“We are beyond grateful for your support and participation in our events over the last couple of decades,” the post said. “We want to thank all our Rat Hole friends and family for joining us and allowing us to continue our biker fun over the years, but with much sadness we have decided it is time to close this chapter of life and start the next!”

Hello my happy riders!!!

As if the world can’t get any more turned upside down and twisted. I’m sure I’m like many people in the world who have been keeping up with the things going on with the Epstein files. I never thought in my life we the people, would witness a moment in the world’s time line to what we are witnessing today. We’ve witnessed unimaginable wars, the most horrible treatment to our veterans, and been told the biggest lies from our very own government. But what we are seeing today with God’s gift to our existence, our children...this is the most evil and disgusting things I’ve ever seen. This Epstein stuff has made me question everything. How can we trust our government ever?

Children are the light of the world. Some are the main reason that hundreds of

thousands of parents wake up and try yet again to give their families the best they can give. God gives us the purest beings in the universe and our only job is to be sure to keep them safe. Folks we need to do better.

Please, always keep your head on a swivel. Watch for those vans, look for those dark corners and you don’t have to say anything but you can always observe. You don’t have to inject yourself into a potential situation, but everyone has a phone now days and if you see something suspicious, especially in regards to a child, call 911 and keep your eyes open! Follow suspicious people if you observe them being weird around children. Don’t sit in your comfort zone! Step up and protect our children!

I got to move on with this because this is a motorcycle magazine but as I said, keep your head on a swivel. The Good book said the flipping of the world, I think we’ve reached that mile stone. Because to me, it seems the world is definitely upside down. We can’t trust nothing no more. A.I. is in full effect. You can’t even trust what you see. It’s time y’all. Open that Book and if you’ve not found Jesus, go look for him. It’s not hard at all, actually. John 3:16 makes it so easy to come home to God.

I can say a prayer right here with you. All you have to do is read it and believe it in your heart.

Dear God, I may not know who you are, but God this world is not my home. So much evilness has taken a hard grip on our reality. I do not wish to travel any further without your love and guidance. I come to you now God although I may not understand all your words but do know your words are the living truth. In the Bible at John 3:16 it says “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Well God, I want to know Jesus, I believe you died on that cross for me, God. I believe he died on that cross for all of us, as well.

I want to accept your gift of salvation. I want my name to be written in the book of life God. I want to come home and I believe in my heart that Jesus IS my savior. Amen.

If you just read this and you do believe in your heart that Jesus died on that cross to save you from the true death. Welcome home my brother or sister. You are a saved soul.

I’ve been writing in Behind Barz for many years talking about riding and just everything thats wonderful about the biker lifestyle. I’ve very rarely ever ask Doobie for anything other than a shirt once in awhile or maybe add some attention to help out a friend or two in an article. But I do believe using this article to save a soul, even if it’s just one, is the best benefit ever to writing in the wonderful magazine.

2Cents from 2Timer...

I’ve seen a many of biker in my life time. Like the old western, “The Good, The Bad And The Ugly”. I think I’ve seen it all in this amazing culture. I’ve ridden beside people for their first time riding a motorcycle. I’ve also rode in biker funerals to help carry some great bikers home to our father. One was a life long friend who passed away from a battle with cancer. ( Missy I love you sister, always ) I’ve even had the unfortunate moment of helping a club brother ride home to our God in heaven.

It has its ups and downs. But I love this life and I’ve been blessed. I had a pretty difficult life growing up and the road ahead was covered with potholes and loose rocks. It wasn’t

easy, but I got saved at 8 years old, and I do believe God had his hands over me. I do believe our father has protected me in a lot of situations where it wasn’t looking too good. Most times I put myself there. But the best peace I have in my heart, is knowing if something ever was to happen to me. I know my soul will rest heaven. I know it!

Thats why, When I see my buddies come rolling up from the Bikers for Christ I know one or two will have a message for me even if they don’t know it. God speaks through them. Even if it’s just a little prayer before we all ride together...

I close my eyes and I participate with the prayer. Because without God, there would be none of US. There wouldn’t even be a motorcycle to ride. The world is an evil place but God has his arms wrapped tightly around his children. Amen.

Well folks, this was nice to reach out and I hope you do find God if God hasn’t already found you. Spring is just around the corner so do me a favor and look your bike over. Check those tires, check those nuts and bolts. I need everyone of you to stay safe out there and enjoy the ride.

I will see you again in the next article... 2Timer

Men Who Live Life Behind Barz

the good news!

Rodger Duvall ~ Jesus Freak

“LOVE TO RIDE”

A deep, enduring affection between people that transcends superficial attraction or fleeting emotions. It is built on mutual respect, understanding, and a genuine desire for the happiness and well-being of the other person. Supporting each other through life’s ups and downs, communicating openly, and growing together over time. When present, it creates a sense of trust, comfort, and unwavering loyalty that stands the test of time.

One will never know or understand and gain wisdom of this without one another.

Complicated is defined as a condition of unrest it can be unsettling because a solution must be So’. And even then, a solution may become even more complicated because other people are involved. Yes, everything one does will in some way affect something or someone else. Read the top paragraph again looking for these conditional words, Deep, Enduring, Emotions, Respect, Understanding, Genuine, Desire, Well-being, Communication, Open, Growing, Trust, Comfort, Loyalty. I am sure more can be added.

Each of these words define a condition, a condition that reveals for the utmost of their definition! They are NOT to be taken lightly! Understanding the depth of each defined word brings an understanding in the highest standard in each. To take each one to the in-depth meaning is the only way to obtain true wisdom for them. Wisdom is what is gained, but applying the wisdom will take commitment to achieve the right results. The right results may not be what you want but will be right.

I ponder a lot of things when I ride alone and with my partner, wherever the journey takes us. It’s together, the road ahead is not always clear, and at times this road is not always clear, but for sure you’ll know the one. The relationship between all of it we want to be in it because you’ll know it will last forever.

Now with all that being brought to our attention Lets ride! Mount up, kick stands up, passengers get on, crank those motors.

Love this life ride, knowing the freedom will overwhelm you with love to your spirit riding. Free in the spirit of riding. There is a path one must take to the location before riding your bike.

A safety check of tires, fluid levels, brakes and fuel are laws of riding that will keep a love for riding, there are other laws such as one rides, gravity, speed, sight, and defense bring a love to respect those conditions. Disrespect those and one will be hurt physically and me chanically, bringing the love of ridings freedom to a stop. When one loves with all their heart, mind, soul, with strength, that will keep everything in check for the love in the freedom of riding.

This ride started with the first paragraph of this devotion, “A deep enduring affection be tween people “, is love. What is love?

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, does not easily bring anger, keeps no record of wrongs, it protects, trusts, it hopes and perseveres, perfect unity of imperfect people.

I am writing this before the love celebrations of Valentine’s Day, so am passing along this ride for us to consider in the months to come to love into forever.

Recipes From "A Fork In The Road"

Below are a couple of pages from the cookbook you can see on the facing page. It is filled with bikers and their recipes. We will feature a couple each issue here in Behind Barz Mag. FROG’S PICO DE GALLO

2 lb. raw shrimp, peeled

2 lb. Crab Meat or all you can afford

2 lb. Alligator Meat, again all you can afford-Note: if not available use other meat: chicken, possum, coon or whatever floats your boat.

2 tbsp. Olive oil

2 tbsp. flour

3 c. okra chopped

2 c. corn (optional)

2 onions chopped

2 cans tomatoes

2 qt. Water (measure it)

1 pinch pepper

3 large pods garlic

4 bay leaves

Homemade Muscadine wine

Any other spices that smell like gumbo (Hot Sauce)

First you start sippin’ the wine. Second you make a da roux. Mix flour and oil in your heavy saucepan. Stir constantly over medium high heat until it is brown. If you think you burned it, you did. Start over. Flour and oil is cheap, shrimp are not. Add shrimp; keep stirring. After shrimp have just started to cook, and all the roux is attached to the shrimp, set shrimp aside. Brown crab meat in skillet with olive oil and repeat with gator, marry it all. Add a little more oil to your saucepan, and add onions and chopped garlic. Stir over medium heat for a few minutes, then add okra/corn. Cook until onions just start to clear. Using your big pot, with a thick bottom, add all ingredients, but hold back about 1/2 qt of water, and wait a while on salt and most of the spices. Remember, gumbo is NOT soup. Once the okra kicks in it will thicken, and get that rich slimy gumbo texture. Then add a little more water if it needs it. As it cooks, add a little pepper, and some salt. Cook slowly until you just have to have some. You know what to do with the rice!

Note: Creole food is spicy, but not necessarily just hot. Add a little of all kinds of spices if you want, but let individuals kick in the hot sauce. If you have leftovers, throw those in.

Using a food processor...and using small batches.

10 small ripe Roma tomatoes (chop)

1 large yellow or white onion

5 serrano peppers

one bunch of cilantro

When chopping/mixing these ingredients in food processor, alternate ingredients, such as 2 tomatoes with one part onion, etc so it’s easier to mix. Pour each batch of chopped ingredients in a mixing bowl, and after all ingredients are chopped, squeeze juice of 2 small limes into the mixture. Using a salt grinder, sprinkle about a teaspoon of salt over the stirred mixture. Serve with tortilla chips and enjoy!

PINBALL WIZARD STEW Frog’s Dad’s recipe

1-2 pounds of beef stew meat

Lipton onion dry soup mix

can of whole kernel corn

can of green beans

can of sliced potatoes

can of mushrooms

Use a large crock pot

can of lima beans

can of sliced carrots

can of Rotel tomatoes

2 tablespoons of worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon of Tabasco hot sauce

1 teaspoon garlic powder

Put meat in the pot and drain all liquid into the pot and use that to mix the dry soup mix into the meat. Then add the rest of ingredients. Gently stir together and cook on high for 5 hours or until the meat is tender. Enjoy!
