Jose Herrera

The Bosco Tech family is excited to announce our new Head Girls Basketball Coach Jose Herrera, a proven leader with over 20 years of coaching experience at the youth, high school, collegiate, and national Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) levels.

Coach Herrera holds a Master of Science degree in Physical Education from Azusa Pacific University, a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from California State University, Los Angeles, and an Associate degree from Rio Hondo College.

Most recently, he led the girls basketball program at Mark Keppel High School (2015–2023), where he built one of the most successful runs in school history—capturing eight Almont League Championships (80–0 league record), multiple CIF and State Playoff appearances, and earning eight League Coach of the Year honors. He was also named Pasadena Star-News Coach of the Year twice and California State Coach of the Year (2018–2019).

Prior to that, he served as Head Girls Varsity Coach at South El Monte High School, Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Chapman University (including an NCAA Tournament appearance), and Associate Head Coach at Rio Hondo College, helping lead the program to a 26–7 school record season.

His passion for player development, academic accountability, and building championship culture makes him an outstanding addition to our athletic program.

Rene Herrera

Alongside Coach Herrera, Bosco Tech is also proud to welcome Assistant Girls Basketball Coach Rene Herrera, a respected leader with nearly two decades of experience within the high school, collegiate, and national Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) levels.

Currently in his ninth season as Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Rio Hondo College, he has led the program to multiple CCCAA Southern Regional Playoff appearances (2019, 2020, 2022, 2023) and consistent Top 15 rankings in the South Region poll. His leadership emphasizes skill development, academic accountability, and preparing student-athletes to transfer successfully to four-year institutions.

Rene previously served as a collegiate assistant at Chapman University, helping guide the program to NCAA Division III Tournament appearances and multiple regional titles, and has coached at the high school level at Schurr High School, South El Monte High School, and Pioneer High School.

A proven program builder, developer, and mentor, he brings a championship mindset, strong player development background, and a passion for building culture both on and off the court.

Please join us in welcoming Head Coach Jose Herrera and Assistant Coach Rene Herrera to our athletic family!
