SAY HELLO TO THE FAMILY!
Can you introduce your family? Jason, Tina, Colin (9), Gwendolyn (6) and our basset hound dog, Wallace (10)
How did you and your spouse meet? We grew up in South Florida, where we met in high school. Attending different colleges pulled us apart, but a decade later we reunited in our hometown. Work eventually brought us to Chicago, where we lived in Lakeview and Andersonville before moving to Park Ridge in the spring of 2019.
What’s your professions? Jason graduated from Florida State University, majoring in Business Entrepreneurship and now is the VP of Sales & Operations for Daymon Worldwide. Tina graduated from the University of Central Florida, where she earned a degree in Interpersonal Communication, and in the spring of 2025, Tina launched the Healthy Kids Running Series - Park Ridge, IL, where she is the Community Coordinator.
Colin scores big during the Park Ridge Soccer fall season.

What educational or extracurricular pursuits are your children involved in? Colin is in third grade, and Gwendolyn is in first grade at Washington Elementary School — go Wildcats! Colin loves art, creative projects, basketball, soccer, rollerblading and ice skating, while Gwendolyn enjoys reading, cooking, soccer, swimming and dancing at Lynette’s School of Dance. Together, they’ve found a love of running over the past year.
Do you have any pets? Our 10 year old basset hound, Wallace, runs our household. He gets us every time with that cute sad face!
Can you highlight any unique talents or interests that each family member brings to the mix? Jason is into tackling projects and always gets the kids involved. Tina enjoys running and finding ways to keep the family organized. Colin’s kindness is a strength within our family, and Gwendolyn’s humor keeps everyone laughing.
What are your favorite places to visit around the community? There are so many amazing places to go to in Park Ridge! Some of our favorites include Pennyville, Easy Street for Friday night pizza, Triple Scoop’d (Gwendolyn loves the “purple” ice cream), and Holts during the holidays for the train display. Also Oakton Sports Complex for ice skating, Dick Pond for running gear, the local parks, Centennial Pool in the summer, Brickton Art Center for classes, the library, and the Farmer’s Market.
Do you participate in any social activities or events in the community? Jason is a member with the Park Ridge Wilderness Scouts, and Tina volunteers at Washington Elementary School and through the Mary Seat of Wisdom Church, CGS program.
Do and your family participate or work with any charity organizations? Our family started the Healthy Kids Running Series - Park Ridge, IL in the spring of 2025. This is a 5 week race series for kids ages 2 through 8th grade. Over 300 runners have crossed the finish line during the Spring and Fall seasons, and it was fun watching them gain confidence week by week. Through this program, we’ve not only shared our love of running but also connected with other Park Ridge families, local businesses and the volunteers.
We’re already excited for another season this spring! If you’re interested in learning more about this program, or registering for the upcoming season, please check out our community page at https:// healthykidsrunningseries.org & parkridgeil@healthykidsrs.org
*Stroll Park Ridge is a proud sponsor of the Healthy Kids Running Series.

DID YOU KNOW?
BY RESIDENT JOAN MATTINGLY
DID YOU KNOW... that there is always something more to be learned about almost everything?
Take, for example, the building located uptown at 147 Vine Street. This building is described as the first commercial building south of the railroad tracks, built by Frank J. Weyrauch to be a grocery store and market. The Weyrauchs moved to Park Ridge in 1894 and operated the business until 1917 when it was sold to Sidney Stinton, who changed the name to S Stinton.
Open M-F 8:00am - 5:00pm
By the late 1950s, a construction firm called Peter A. Johnson & Son operated at this location, followed by Bob Rowe’s Evening Pipe Shop. Over the years, the Pipe Shop added the sale of handcrafted wooden toys for children.
In 1997, Pamela Whamond founded the Brickton Art Center, created to provide a year-round venue for artists and art education for all ages. The Center, a not-for-profit entity, opened its doors at 147 Vine Avenue, hosting classes and displaying student art. Eventually the Brickton Art Center, now operating at Centennial Park, became affiliated with the Park Ridge Park District. Today 147 Vine is the home of DeVine Salon.
Immediately adjacent, at 147-1/2 Vine Avenue is a tiny little space that also has seen different tenants. In 1965, a shop called The Gallery opened in the tiny space adjoining the Evening Pipe Shop. The Gallery displayed original pieces of art, featuring the work of several Chicago-based artists. The shop was open weekday evenings and Saturday mornings. The Gallery was followed by The Hallway Antiques and sometime later this little space became The Miniature Gallery, with everything needed to outfit a dollhouse. Today the space is home to Savour the Dates Catering.
An interesting part of this building’s story is that the original structure was a frame building, constructed like many residences in the city. Sometime over the years, a brick surround was constructed around the original wood frame building. One can see the original building’s roof behind the brick façade placed in the 1930s.

Positively Park Ridge Person Of The Month
PASTOR CAROL HILL
PASTOR CAROL HILL is one of those people who embodies what makes Park Ridge special. This month, we are incredibly excited to honor her. With more than seven years in the community, she has built deep, lasting connections rooted in service, faith, and genuine care for others. Her presence reflects the very reason she believes people choose to stay in Park Ridge or find their way back: a strong sense of belonging and neighbors who truly look out for one another.
At the heart of everything Carol does is her family. She is married to her husband, Adrian Hill, and together they are raising three children: Katie, a 19-year-old student at DePaul University, and twin sons Adrian Jr. and Rae, 13-year-old eighth graders at Lincoln Middle School. Their home is also shared with their beloved 9-year-old St. Berdoodle.
Carol credits her family as her greatest inspiration, drawing lessons from her children, parents, grandparents, and greatgrandparents who taught her to live with courage, compassion, humor, and faith.
Carol’s impact on Park Ridge is felt across the community through her many leadership roles. She serves as Senior Minister of Park Ridge Community Church, a chaplain with the Park Ridge Police Department, a member of the Governing Council of Advocate Lutheran General, and an active participant in the Park Ridge Ministerial Association. She also helps lead Pride in Park

Ridge, supports the Lincoln Middle School PTO, and is a familiar face at community events—from memorial services and school performances to hosting a big portion of the Park Ridge Christmas Stroll.
Known for her joyful spirit and festive name, Carol especially loves the Christmas season. The decorations, the lights, the songs, the joy, the anticipation, the generous spirit of giving, and the reminder interrupt our lives with peace, joy, hope, and love. From the Park Ridge Christmas Stroll to the candlelit Christmas Eve service, she embraces every opportunity to bring people together.
Looking ahead, she is excited for a church choir trip to Tuscany, her sons’ upcoming graduation, and continuing to serve her community!
Carol’s best piece of advice: “See the good in others, find what you have in common. Share your own story and listen to others. Every single one of us has come a long way, and every single person deserves the benefit of the doubt. We are beyond blessed,

LYNNETTE’S SCHOOL OF DANCE
What’s the history of your dance career and business? I have danced since I was three years old, and have trained from professional dancers throughout my professional career. I have a Master Dance Educator Degree, and I am apart of the Member of Chicago National Association Of Dance Masters. I transitioned into opening our studio in 1971. It has been the premier studio in our neighborhood for the last 53 years, bringing light and charm to our corner!
What has been your mission for Lynnette’s? Our goal and mission is to give back to the community and foster passion in dance for anyone. My best piece of advice for aspiring dancers is to never give up! Just dance!
What’s unique about your business? We teach the same kids and families for years! We consider ourselves a “dance family.” To see students start as tots and
go through high school, then to bring their own children back is so fulfilling and rewarding. Not only as a resident of our community, but as a mom, business owner and dance teacher.
What style of dances do you specialize in? We offer classes in ballet, tap, jazz, pointe, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary cardio classes and musical theater. We also provide specialty master classes, k-pop classes, camps, princess days and even themed birthday parties.
How does your business connect with and contribute to the local community? We have a variety of performances and diversity in our student skills! Some of our showcased performances in the community are at the Park Ridge Car Show, Taste of Park Ridge, Stroll Park Ridge’s Christmas Stroll, DePaul Sky Performance, the Chicago Dogs Baseball, local senior homes and even with the competitive team at our school!

Panino’s Pizzeria
Tradition, flavor & family with a warm neighborhood vibe
Panino’s Pizzeria is a beloved neighborhood spot known for its classic Neapolitan pizzas, generous portions, and welcoming friendly atmosphere. Opened in 2009 by owners Bruno Brunetti, Gino Rago, and Leonardo Rago, this cozy spot delivers across the board. During our visit Gino and manager Sara Brunetti served our group an impressive spread of outstanding appetizers, mouthwatering entrées, and delicious desserts. Sarah’s warmth made us feel like family in her own kitchen, while Gino brought the menu to life by sharing the history behind the dishesincluding a remarkable starter dough from the 1800s, gifted to him during a visit to Italy.
What really stands out is Panino’s commitment to old-school pizza making.
Many of their creations have won awards. Their dough is naturally leavened with a Neapolitan “mother” yeast, (from the 1800s Italy) and fermented for 48 hours, resulting in a flavorful, beautifully textured crust rooted in tradition. The Regina Margherita and White Pie pizzas were highlights— exceptional from crust to toppings.
The Fried Zucchini and Grigliata (grilled seafood) appetizers earned rave reviews, as did the Chickpea Salad and Baresana salad—and that was just the beginning. Next came signature pasta dishes including Rigatoni Boscaiola, Rigatoni Napoletana, and Linguine Chicken Tetrazzini. Comforting, flavorful, and generously portioned. Every bite was thoroughly enjoyed.
If you are looking for more than just pizza and pasta, Panino’s
doesn’t disappoint with its Pork Chop Francese, Eggplant Parmigiana, and Chicken & Eggplant Piccata. Dessert followed with Limoncello Cake and Tiramisu and everyone’s favorite - the fried dough topped with Nutella. DO NOT MISS IT! Wow!
Panino’s Pizzeria is a communitycentered restaurant, family-owned and operated with a clear pride in excellent service. We felt like family after this dining experience. It was the whole package---excellent traditional, homestyle Italian cooking served with a smile and heart. The staff was excellent. If you have never been to Italy this is as close as it gets on the northwest side.
Guests at this review included Stephen Russell (Sidekick Coaching & Educational Services) & wife Jackie, Holly Costantini (Hollywood Skin) & husband Dan, Jason & Tina Stavrinou (Healthy Kids Running Series-Park Ridge), Diane Morris, and Stroll Publisher Dolly McCarthy.

March Madness will be center stage, But much more strikes us as we age.
Sunsets in our Park Ridge skies, The lovely homes that we walk by.
Leafless branches reaching high,
The winter’s final weeks pass by.
The early spring floral peaks, Spring breaks the kids all love each week. The sounds of the turtle dove,
The winter snow bids you adieu.
Early spring chores still to do, Yet something deeper comes in view. But most important, it seems to me,
Is that we take the time to really see.
The season’s change is not outside—
It’s in each of us where it abides.
Are we all that we could be?
Do we reach out to all we see?
As the seasons pass us by,
Are we happy gals and guys?
Can we let go of any pain?
Let us be refreshed by spring rain.
Every day brings something new,
To bring joy to me and you.
So spring forward is not just time—
I hope you’re encouraged by this rhyme!

A STROLL DOWN MEMORY LANE
BY FORMER RESIDENT AND AUTHOR VIC LARSON
THE CORNER OF TALCOTT and Dee wasn’t always the home of the Hawks! Maine South was built on the site of a former landfill. The new high school opened on September 8, 1964, with 2,570 lucky students enrolled!
The landfill, fondly referred to by those who remember it as “The Dump,” was the site of a memorable annual bonfire. Residents brought dry Christmas trees for a fire that lit up the sky on a cold, early January night.

Waiting for the “Dad Signal”
BY RESIDENT SCOTT CASTELLANOS
There was a time in a galaxy far, far away, and long, long ago, when my children looked at my wife and me, like we were superheroes. Trouble would ensue, we’d arrive on the scene, and their eyes would light up. They knew we were there to make it all better, whether it be a boo boo, a scary noise, or a much-needed cuddle after a tough day being a kid. We were always there to save the day. Slowly, as they grew up and became teenagers, there must have been a toxic waste leak or a radioactive something that bit them, because it started to feel like we were becoming arch-nemeses. Our superpower of loving and supporting them no longer had the effect it once had. It is almost like they have a force field resisting all we throw at them. We
a sneak attack of encouragement, and that is countered with sarcasm. Who would have known that two high school boys could put up such a powerful defense, so easily? Then it hit me: after replaying all our attempts of affection and trying to spend time with them, what if they think we are the ‘bad guys’? Are my wife and I now super villains? Are we known as something like ‘The Smotherer’ and ‘The Spoiler’?
is just a natural story arc. I know, deep down in my heart, that someday soon, we will all come together when we need and join forces once again. Kind of like The Avengers or The Justice League, but with fewer explosions and stuff. Until then, we will keep trying, preparing, and
ENERGY SHIFT THE
AS WINTER GIVES WAY to longer days, many of us notice subtle shifts in energy, mood, and motivation. Rather than pushing yourself harder, now is the perfect time to work with your body’s natural rhythms and gently adjust your routines.
MOVE WITH THE SEASON Our bodies crave different types of movement as the seasons change. Longer daylight invites outdoor walks, bike rides, or stretches on a sunny porch. Even small adjustments, like swapping a treadmill session for a freshair stroll, can boost energy and mood.
REFRESH YOUR NUTRITION Spring brings an abundance of fresh produce. Incorporating seasonal fruits and vegetables can naturally revitalize your diet and provide a gentle energy lift. Simple swaps, like adding leafy greens to smoothies or snacking on berries, help shake off winter sluggishness without complicated meal plans.
ADJUST SLEEP PATTERNS As daylight increases, your body may naturally wake earlier. Gradually shifting your bedtime and wake-up schedule can align your circadian rhythm with the sun, leaving you more alert and balanced. Short naps or mindful breaks can also help maintain energy throughout the day.
CHECK IN ON MINDSET Three months in, many resolutions start to feel challenging. Rather than dwelling on unmet goals, focus on progress. Small wins, like choosing a brisk walk over scrolling or swapping soda for water, reinforce momentum and build confidence.
GENTLY TUNE INTO YOURSELF Seasonal shifts are an invitation to reassess routines, not to overhaul them. By listening to your body and making mindful tweaks in movement, nutrition, sleep, and mindset, you can shake off winter sluggishness, boost energy, and feel more aligned as the seasons change.

WHAT’S COOKIN’ PARK RIDGE?
Tuscan Cod Livornese
BY RESIDENT MARIA ORSZULA
This dish was one of the most requested favorites at my family’s restaurant, Monastero’s Ristorante & Banquets in Chicago. I learned to make it from my father more than 20 years ago and have continued the tradition by preparing it every Valentine’s Day.
MARIA ORSZULA
Cod Livornese is a traditional Tuscan dish of tender cod gently simmered in a rustic tomato sauce with garlic, capers, and olives. It is a quick and easy weeknight meal that relies on simple pantry ingredients.
INGREDIENTS:
• 4 Fresh or frozen cod fillets
• 4 T Olive oil
• 5 cloves sliced garlic
• 1/2 cup white wine
• 1 jar of your favorite tomato sauce, such as Rao’s
• 2 T capers, drained (add some juice to the sauce)
• 1/2 cup Kalamata or black olives, pitted and cut in half
• Red pepper flakes (optional)
• Salt
• 1/3 cup Fresh parsley, chopped
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Pat cod fillets dry. Lightly season with salt and pepper, then dredge each piece in flour, shaking off any excess.
2. Heat olive oil in a wide skillet over medium heat. Add the floured cod fillets and sauté for 2 minutes per side until lightly golden. Add the garlic and saute for 20 seconds. Add the wine. Reduce the wine for 2-3 minutes.
3. Pour in the jar of your favorite tomato sauce. Add the capers and olives and roughly 3 tablespoons of parsley.
4. Cover the pan and let braise for 5-8 minutes depending on thickness of the cod.
5. Taste and adjust seasoning. Sprinkle with fresh parsley and serve hot with crusty bread, pasta, or polenta.
*Don’t wait until the end. Layering salt, pepper, and herbs while cooking builds deeper, more balanced flavors.
Simple ingredients!
