I came to Dollar in 1948, when I was 10. It was a fairly traumatic experience at first – my parents had no idea what a boarding school was like, and neither did I. But Dollar was a compassionate place, and I soon settled in. I thrived here.” Robin’s connection to Dollar spans more than seven decades. He still recalls the kindness of teachers and friends, and the joy of playing rugby and cricket. Boarding life shaped him: “It was up to you to write your story on a blank piece of paper. And I found Dollar to be a very supportive place – people helped me along the way.” That compassion and sense of belonging have inspired his generosity to the school. Robin’s giving began in the early 1990s, supporting rugby tours and training. “I started giving every year – sometimes for coaching, sometimes for trips. That’s how my donations began.” Rugby remains a special passion: “You can see the impact gifts have. The quality of schoolboy rugby is so much higher now than in my day – the talent that’s coming through is amazing.”
