Dollar Academy is delighted to partner with Gleneagles to offer an exceptional Golf Programme, which caters for complete beginners through to elite players. This collaboration, between two renowned Scottish institutions, will allow pupils at the school to experience world class golf coaching at Gleneagles, coupled with an outstanding education. We hope you find the information in this brochure useful.

Given our commitment to further developing the Dollar Academy Golf Programme, scholarship funding is available to support boarding pupils who demonstrate strong golfing ability. Golf scholarship candidates will be required to provide proof of handicap and meet with the coaching team at Gleneagles for assessment.

DOLLAR ACADEMY

As the world’s oldest co-educational day and boarding school, Dollar has served the educational needs of its pupils for over two centuries. It is recognised as one of the UK’s leading independent schools and has an excellent reputation amongst the UK’s top universities. Dollar offers the widest range of academic subjects in Scotland, complemented by over 120 co-curricular activities, with an outstanding reputation for sport, music and art in particular. This is a successful school filled with happy and very active children.

GOLF AT DOLLAR ACADEMY

Golf is a popular activity at Dollar, with around 100 boys and girls playing each year. We have advanced players, who represent both the school and their countries in national and international competitions, through to complete beginners. Golfers at Dollar have the opportunity to go on a number of international trips and tours, most recently to the US, Canada, Dubai and a winter training camp in Spain.

In addition to the facilities at Gleneagles, our golfers also benefit from the 9-hole Dollar Golf Course which is located right next to the school. Muckhart Golf Club, which boasts three 9-hole heathland courses, and a local driving range are both located within a 5-minute drive of Dollar. There are four Open venues - St Andrews, Carnoustie, Muirfield and Royal Troon - within an hour of Dollar.

The Dollar Academy Golf Programme

The Dollar Academy Golf Programme at Gleneagles consists of three tiers:

ELITE - Aimed at low handicap golfers looking to improve technical, physical and mental aspects of the game, as well as participate in competitive golf.

DEVELOPMENT - Aimed at higher handicap golfers looking to improve their game as well as participate in competitive golf.

BEGINNER - Aimed at non-handicap golfers, including complete beginners, looking to develop their game and ultimately gain a handicap.

All coaching for Golf Programme players will be provided by PGA professionals and will take place during the school week, outwith academic lessons.

The PGA National Golf Academy at Gleneagles provides the ideal location for golfers of all ages and abilities to learn and improve their game in a relaxed environment. First established in 1994 and selected in 2010 as the PGA National Academy for Scotland, it offers first-class outdoor and indoor facilities. Tuition at The Academy encompasses all elements of the game and the PGA Professionals pride themselves on offering excellent tuition and access to the best in modern teaching technology. In addition to world class coaching and facilities, pupils also have the option of additional using our recommended sports psychologist

To really get a feel for life at Dollar and for the golfing facilities available, we encourage you to get in touch to arrange a visit. Term-time is ideal as you can meet with staff and pupils in order to get a sense of day-to-day life at Dollar. We realise that is not always possible though, and are very happy to welcome you at other times of the year too. Preferential room rates are available at Gleneagles for visiting families, if required.
