DOLLAR SPORT NEWSLETTER
August 2025

August 2025
I hope everyone has enjoyed a restful
summer break.
As we begin a new term, I’m looking
forward to an exciting, enjoyable, and successful season of sport at Dollar Academy.
In this newsletter, I’d like to share some
important logistical information along
with updates that reflect our vision for
sport at Dollar:
To continually develop Dollar Academy
as one of Scotland’s leading sporting
schools by fostering an inspiring and inclusive environment where every
pupil has the opportunity to fulfil their
potential - developing not only athletic
ability but also core values and
character that last a lifetime.
At Dollar Academy, we strongly encourage and greatly appreciate support for our sports teams from family and friends. The school endeavours to be hospitable to parents and visitors. We do ask, however, that the following
guidelines are observed by spectators and supporters always:
• All players and spectators should remember the main purpose of school sports is for pupils’ enjoyment and development.
• Teach pupils to always play the game in the correct spirit including fair play and the and understanding the rules.
• Spectators should applaud good play and avoid criticising mistakes or losses.
• Never publicly question a coach’s or referee’s decisions or use offensive language toward anyone involved in the game.
• Respect the playing area and the opposing players and coaches.
• Raise concerns through proper channels, typically by speaking privately with the Director of Sport after the event.
We are delighted to announce that Karen Barclay, the Welfare Manager at Scottish Rugby, will host

with a suspected concussion. Should you wish to attend please complete the relevant form in MySchoolPortal. This event will be held in-person and confirmation of the venue will be issued in advance. A link will be available for a Zoom meeting. This season, pitch side medical care will be provided by Marshall First Aid.
Pupil welfare and pitch-side medical care are vital in youth sport to protect the health and safety of young athletes. As children and teenagers are still developing, they are more vulnerable to injuries and the effects of poor treatment.
Good welfare ensures they feel safe, supported, and able to enjoy sport, while trained medical staff and first-aid resources allow quick responses to injuries, reducing risks and aiding recovery. Together, these measures create a safe environment where players can perform and grow.
Following the success of last summer term’s dance classes with Monument
Dance we are delighted to share with you the program for the upcoming
academic year, running from Monday 25th August 2025 to June 2026.
We are thrilled the classes have been so popular, especially among our female pupils, and have made some exciting adjustments to better accommodate different age groups. All new students are warmly welcome!
While boys are welcome in all our classes, we are pleased to introduce a “Boys Only” session for those who would prefer to dance in a non-mixed
group. Further details on this are included below. Before the end of the
academic year in June 2026, we will host a Dance Showcase, where all students will have the opportunity to perform choreographed routines for
invited family, friends, and Dollar Academy staff.
New classes for 2025/26:
- Acrobatic Arts: A fun and safe syllabus combining gymnastic and dance
movements.
- Boys Only: Designed to create a welcoming environment for boys of all
ages. The class will focus on commercial street styles, and we may separate
by age or level in future terms.

The primary objective of this project is to introduce children and young students to the discipline of judo, a sport widely recognized by numerous studies in sports science as fundamental to the psycho-physical development of young practitioners.
Judo contributes to balanced physical development, strengthens inner confidence, channels aggression and restlessness often associated with youth, and fosters a respectful attitude towards others, including one’s opponents. Judo classes will take place in the Maguire Gymnasium at Dollar Academy.
Pupils should be sign up for Judo via SOCS then the fee will be added to ParentPay.
The cost per lesson is £12 including VAT. There is a first term discount at £9.60 per lesson.

provider. They work closely with all DA sports teams to keep players fit,
healthy and ready to compete at the highest level. They have experience

A triage appointment should be the first port of call for all new injuries. This appointment lasts 15-mins and will give you a quick diagnosis of your
problem(s) and a plan to get you better. All triage appointments are FREE but there is a maximum of 1x triage appointment per injury.
Follow-up appointments last for 30-minutes and are available both in the school (in the First Aid room) and at the main ESP Physio clinics (Grangemouth, Stirling, Edinburgh, Glasgow) if these are more convenient for you. All follow-up appointments are PAID sessions but, as DA students/staff, you receive an exclusive discounted price.
Parents and family members are also eligible to receive an exclusive, discounted price for all ESP Physio appointments, but these are all paid sessions and must take place at the main ESP Physio clinics.
