January 2026

I hope everyone had a fantastic winter break and has returned to Dollar Academy with renewed energy and enthusiasm for our extensive sport offering.
January has been an outstanding month for sport at Dollar. From our 1st XV competing for the Scottish Shield at Murrayfield to hosting our very first Team and Individual Show Jumping Competition, it has been a brilliant start to the year. We are incredibly proud of all our pupils, staff and Former Pupils who have contributed to and achieved sporting success this month.
As always, we'd love to hear about your child's success - contact us at sportsnews@dollaracademy.org.uk to be featured in the next edition of the Dollar Sport Newsletter.
We have lots of exciting things planned for this term, so stay tuned!

At Dollar Academy, we strongly encourage and greatly appreciate support for our sports teams from family and friends. The School endevours to be hospitable to parents and visitors.
We do ask, however, that the following guidelines are observed by spectators and supporters:
• All players and spectators should remember the main purpose of school sports is for pupils' enjoyment and development.
• Teach pupils to always play the game in the correct spirit, icluding fair play and understanding the rules.
• Spectators should applaud good play and avoid critising mistakes or losses.
• Never publicly question a coach's or referee's decisions or use offensive language towards anyone involved in the game.
• Respect the playing area and the oposing players and coaches.
• Raise concerns through proper channels, typically by speaking privately with the Director of Sport after the event.

Fencing is a fast-paced, exciting, and safe combat sport that promotes physical fitness, creativity, confidence, strategic thinking, and mental resilience. Participants will learn the technical and tactical skills needed to enjoy the sport in a fun and supportive environment.Classes will cost £5 per session due the level of specialist coaching.
Rob Blackburne has over 20 years of fencing experience and began coaching in Scotland in 2013. He has coached the Scottish team at the Commonwealth Championships and is currently the lead weapon coach for the Scottish Fencing Pathways Programme.
David Kelly, a Former Pupil, is an international fencing medallist and a Level 3 foil fencing coach.
