DOLLAR SPORTS NEWSLETTER

February 2026

A NOTE FROM LYNSEY ALLAN

DIRECTOR OF SPORT

As we approach the end of Term Two, it is an especially busy and exciting

time for sport across the school. The coming weeks are packed with

tournaments, cup competitions and festivals, providing fantastic

opportunities for our pupils to represent the school and compete at a high level

We look forward to welcoming teams from across Scotland for our Junior

Hockey Tournament, and this year we are also delighted to host our first

Junior Rugby Tournament. Meanwhile, our Senior Basketball Squad prepare

for their Scottish Cup Quarter Final, and several of our rugby teams will

travel south to take part in the prestigious Rosslyn Park National Schools

Rugby Sevens. Alongside this, there are numerous fixtures scheduled

across football, netball and curling.

We also send our very best

wishes to the Dollar

Academy team taking on

Doddie’s Triple Crown 2026

Challenge - an incredible

800-mile cycle from Melrose

to Dublin in just four days in support of the My Name’5

Doddie Foundation. I hope you enjoy reading about the many sporting successes of both our current pupils and our former pupils, whose achievements continue to inspire our school sporting

community.

Rory Purvis (FP 2024)

Congratulations to Rory, who was recently selected for the U20 Six

Nations Squad, as well as the Scotland vs France U20 match on 6

March.

Max Williamson (FP 2020) and Gus Warr (FP 2018)

Sophie Thomas (FP 2025)

Congratulations to Sophie Thomas (FP 2025) on an outstanding run of achievements since leaving Dollar! She has had a phenomenal indoor season, clocking 7.33s for 60m and 23.28s for 200m to

claim double gold at the England U20 Indoor Championships in Sheffield. Both performances are new Scottish U20 indoor records, with her 200m time just over a tenth of a second shy of Dina AsherSmith’s British record. As a result, Sophie is topping the UK U20 rankings as well as the Scottish senior rankings.

Looking ahead, Sophie has been awarded a full academic and athletics scholarship to the University of Connecticut, where she will compete in NCAA Division I from September 2026.

Well done, Sophie! The Dollar Academy community couldn't be prouder.

PUPIL SUCCESS

U14, U16 & U18 Girls’ Rugby Squads

Well done to our U14 Girls Rugby team, who were recently involved in three 9-aside games against two Wallace High School squads and a Falkirk High School team!

The girls played very well and won their first match against a strong

Wallace High team, 11 tries to 10. They then played Wallace High’s second squad and narrowly lost 8 tries to 6.

The last game against Falkirk was also very close - with Dollar

narrowly losing 7 tries to Falkirk’s 8 tries. A great effort by all players involved!

Our U16’s and U18’s Girls Rugby 7’s Squads thoroughly enjoyed playing at home versus Falkirk High School, and each squad played two competitive matches.

The U18’s lost their first match 3 tries to 1 but learned from their first game and won their rematch 3 tries to 2 tries. Tries were scored by Michelle (Form V) and Lotti (Form V). Successful conversions were taken by Iona (Form VI).

The U16’s lost both their games 4-1 but were competitive against a more experienced side. Great tries were scored by Sara (Form III) and Emily (Form II).

Well done to all involved!
