Happy Mother’s Day to all those mothers and Grand Mothers out there, 10th May should be a special day of the year for you and I trust your children and partners will show their appreciation by spoiling you. There are some events on this day so I hope the organizers recognize the importance of Mother’s Day and plan a little something for you.
Over the last month there has been a lot of chatter on the introduction of the Champion Class and how it is proposed to operate. Firstly, I will stress the survey was a way of gauging the interest of members and no decision has been made at the Dogs Australia Board level as to the introduction. The survey has allowed members to have a say on the proposal. This I believe was a success as there were many good ideas bandied around and the pros and cons of each were discussed widely. Yes, the release did not go as planned however there were a number of contributing factors to this and I am not going to lay any blame here. It is now up to Dogs Australia to learn from the mistakes and improve into the future.
Dogs SA and Dogs Australia have listened to your concerns and more will be released in the future on ways we can enhance the conformation and performance disciplines. The object is not just about retaining current members but also attracting new members to participate in all the activities Dogs SA has to offer. We are one organization and need to develop as such.
May is the month where we start to have some of the most important events on our calendar commencing with the Dogs SA Dances with Dogs Advisory State Championships being held at the Virginia Community Centre. Then we have the Dogs SA Winter Internation All Breeds Championship Shows along with a number of specialty shows. These commence on Thursday 28th May and run for 4 days. I would encourage all trainees to attend particularly the specialties as these are where you get the chance to see and learn as there is generally a lot more of the breeds than most weekends.
DACO is still down which I understand is a great inconvenience to many of our members however, we can still conduct business through our local Councils who still have full access to DACO. DCMB are striving to have the system back up and operational by the time dog registrations are due commencing in June. I will keep you updated.
Personally, I would like to wish all the Mums and Grand Mothers a happy Mother’s Day and have an enjoyable day.

A. CODE OF ETHICS FOR MEMBERS
Each Member shall comply with the following Code of Ethics and any Member who fails to do so shall be guilty of an offence against these Rules. Maximum Penalty $5000 (07/22)
As a Member of the South Australian Canine Association:
1. I shall ensure that at all times all dogs under my control are properly and effectively contained by fencing or enclosure, and are properly housed, fed, watered, exercised and given proper Veterinary attention if and when required.
2. I shall not allow any dogs under my care to roam at large, and, when away from home, ensure they are kept fully leashed and under effective control, or otherwise under effective control at all times. (01/16)
3. I shall breed only for the purpose of improving the quality of the breed in line with the breed standard and strive to eliminate hereditary diseases in the breed/s that I produce.
4. I shall strive to have all my breeding stock tested, where tests are available, for hereditary diseases.
5. The health and welfare of a bitch being bred from is of paramount importance and I will adhere to the following minimum standards. (01/20)
(a) No bitch owned by me and/or under my control be mated before she is twelve months of age or older as prescribed in the ANKC Ltd Regulations Part 6. (04/25)
(b) No bitch can be whelped more than twice in any 18-month period without the prior approval of the SACA. (04/25)
(c) No mother/son, father/daughter or brother/sister matings are allowed. Puppies from such matings will be registered on the Limited Register and flagged never to be upgraded. (04/25)
(d) No bitch is allowed more than 5 litters in her lifetime. Puppies from such matings will be registered on the Limited Register and flagged never to be upgraded.(04/25)
(e) No bitch over 8 years of age can be bred from unless at the time of mating there was a current veterinary certificate stating that the bitch is in good health. The veterinary certificate must be presented at the time of registering the litter resulting from this mating. A current veterinarian certificate is defined as a certificate dated within the three months prior to the mating. (04/25)
6. I shall ensure that none of my pure bred dogs are mated to a dog of a different breed, to a cross bred dog, or to an unregistered dog of the same breed, or to a dog of the same breed which is entered on the Limited Register, unless specific permission is given by the SACA. (04/26)
7. I shall not sell or otherwise transfer from my care any puppy under eight weeks of age, thus allowing for vaccination to be given at six weeks of age and thereby allowing for the ten to fourteen days for the vaccine to take effect. Upon the disposal of the dog I shall provide the owner with a current vaccination certificate of that dog issued by a Veterinary Surgeon. Accepted Veterinarian vaccination certificates are C3 12/36 months, C4, C5 or an annual Titre Test accompanied by a Veterinarian letter. (01/19)
8. I shall not knowingly sell or otherwise transfer from my care any dog that is not in good health.

10. I shall ensure that all persons acquiring dogs from me clearly understand their responsibility for the care and welfare of the animal as defined in Clause 1 and 2 above. I shall not knowingly misrepresent the characteristics of the breed, nor falsely advertise, or mislead any person regarding the performance of any dog. I shall provide to all purchasers of dogs or those placed by me, written details of all dietary and vaccination requirements and responsible dog ownership and/or an appropriate publication relating to such requirements.
11. I shall not sell any dog to commercial dog wholesalers, retail pet dealers, or directly or indirectly to allow a dog to be given as a prize or donation in a contest of any kind or to be auctioned. (01/12)
12. I shall ensure that every dog in every litter I breed will be registered as required in the SACA Rules. (07/22)
13. Where a litter has been found to not comply with this Code of Ethics – 5 all puppies resulting from that litter must be placed on the Limited Register. Once placed on the Limited Register a dog may only be upgraded to the Main Register with the express approval of Council. (08/25)

TALITA RADIN
Talita is joining us from Western Australia where she competes in Agility with her 5-year-old border collie, Soda.
Running a very speedy (and thoughtless) dog motivates her to design safe but fast and flowing courses whilst still challenging skills and teamwork.
Talita has been judging since 2024 and is looking forward to seeing the South Australian teams giving it their all and most of all having fun on her courses.
JODY STEWART
Jody’s agility career began with a Manchester Terrier, and she has since then has gone on to complete with several Border Collies. She currently competes with Myst, her 5-year-old Tri–Border Collie, who constantly pushes her to become a better, more thoughtful handler.
Jody has been an Agility Judge since 2023 and aims to design courses that are flowing, safe, fun and challenging. She finds it incredibly rewarding watching teams put their skills into action, celebrating their dogs and the partnership they share whether their runs are clear or not.

LAUREN FAIRLESS
Lauren Fairless is originally from Perth, Western Australia and was heavily involved in equestrian sports before moving to Melbourne in 2016. As a result of relocating to Victoria (minus a horse), she began her agility journey a little over 9 years ago as something fun to do in her spare time.
Lauren started her foundation level skills at a variety of local south-eastern clubs with her first dog and Australian Shepherd Rave, before getting her Border Collie Zeke from South Australia.
Progressing through the grades from Novice through to Masters, Rave has taken Lauren to the top of the sport in Victoria, being chosen to represent the state as the travelling reserve member of the VIC team in 2024, winning National Masters Pairs Champion and Best Performed Masters 600 Agility Dog at the recent Sydney Nationals.
Lauren and Rave’s accolades also extend to Reserve Champion Most Versatile Aussie (MVA) and competing in both Top Dog Agility and Jumping, securing Overall Top Agility Dog in the state in 2024.
Lauren has since gone on to have her first child and currently juggles motherhood and agility, having completed her judges training in 2023. Taking on select appointments amongst baby duties and competing, she is honoured to be asked to judge at the South Australian State trial.
Lauren believes that the dog’s line and safety should be paramount and loves to provide handlers fast, flowing courses that still test technical skills and allows for a variety of handling options.
She is looking forward to the appointment and hopes to provide some fun and engaging courses that everyone will enjoy.
NEVILLE COX
My love for agility goes way back to 1986, when Agility first started in South Australia. And from then on, I was hooked. I was entered in the very first agility trial held in SA in 1987.
I have owned 4 agility dogs in the past, I started with my 7-year-old Labrador, Cher, who became one of the first dogs in SA to gain an AD Title, then later with another Labrador, Jade, she was small, only 440mm in height, but held her own amongst the bigger dogs, she got her AD title and went on to become an Obedience Champion.
I have competed successfully with two Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers, and trialled my daughters Aussie Shepherd, who gained his ADX, JDM, SD & GD titles before being retired.
I gained my Agility Judges Licence in 1996; I love judging and have judged in all States of Australia. I think I’m a fair judge and it gives me a great thrill when I see dogs that I’m judging walk out of the ring happy, whether they qualify or not. For me, it’s all about having fun with our dogs!
I’m looking forward to judging Games at this year’s State Championships.

BRIAN FIELDER
Since becoming an Agility judge in the late 1980s I have judged extensively throughout South Australia as well as in most other States and Territories, including State Championships, Royal Shows and Nationals.
Some years ago, I took the plunge and competed with my German Shepherd for a while, gaining our Novice titles in both Agility and Jumping before realising that our best days were probably behind us and making a strategic retirement.
I am looking forward to judging at this year’s State Championships and wish the Committee and all competitors the best of luck for a successful event.

I first got into agility in 2004 when I saw a Sheltie jumping through a hoop. I decided that’s what I wanted to do. And that’s the dog I wanted to do it with. I’m up to my fourth Sheltie.
I have been judging agility since 2009. What I enjoy the most is seeing a well-executed plan coming together. I’ve seen some amazing progressions, from barely in control early year(s), to runs as smooth as the head on a pint of Guinness. I’m so happy for the handlers who have been on this journey. I suspect this applies to all of you.
Looking forward to visiting again and exploring some more of the South Australia. Now where can I get a South Australia cap?

The test is open to dogs aged between two (2) and under eight (8) years but must not have reached the birth date of eight (8) on the day of the trial. A veterinary certificate, issued within fourteen (14) days immediately prior to the date of the test, must be submitted for each dog on the day. It shall cover such things as the general fitness, temperature, standing heart rate, condition of the pads and muscle tone of the dog (for bitches the certificate is to also state also that the bitch is not in whelp).

Dogs SA Policy for Photographers at David Roche Park
• Any person is permitted to take photographs on the grounds providing they are not selling such photographs
• Any person who intends to take photographs on the grounds for renumeration must supply proof of Public Liability Insurance to the Dogs SA Office
• Any person who intends to have a site on the grounds for either displaying and or the taking of photographs for sale, must pay the appropriate site fee
• Clubs who engage a photographer to take photographs on their behalf, have the right to make the photographer exclusive for their event. No other commercial photographers are then permitted to operate during that Club event/s.

All dogs must pass through check points by close of vetting. Dogs and bitches competing in the morning Obedience Trial do not need to be vetted a second time.
