July has been an interesting month, with an abundance of rain and extremely cold mornings across the state. The weather has had a slight impact on the activities events requiring adjustments to suit the conditions. Thank you to everyone for your patience and understanding during this period.
As of 1 July, the Dogs SA canteen transitioned to cashless transactions. While there have been a few concerns raised by members about the removal of cash payments, This change was not introduced due to any lack of trust in our dedicated volunteers who regularly staff the canteen. Rather, it was implemented to remove the handling of cash, reducing the possibility of errors when giving change or processing transactions
The Adelaide Royal Show is fast approaching, and entries have now closed. Conformation entries are slightly down compared with 2025; however, entries in the sporting disciplines have increased. This is likely due to the revised schedule, with

At the June Special General Meeting of the Dogs Australia Board, several important decisions were made. I encourage all members to read the summary available on the Dogs SA website. One decision that appears to have caused some confusion relates to the new Supreme Champion Neuter title. To qualify, a dog must have achieved

A. CODE OF ETHICS FOR MEMBERS
Each Member shall comply with the following Code of Ethics and any Member who fails to do so shall be guilty of an offence against these Rules. Maximum Penalty $5000 (07/22)
As a Member of the South Australian Canine Association:
1. I shall ensure that at all times all dogs under my control are properly and effectively contained by fencing or enclosure, and are properly housed, fed, watered, exercised and given proper Veterinary attention if and when required.
2. I shall not allow any dogs under my care to roam at large, and, when away from home, ensure they are kept fully leashed and under effective control, or otherwise under effective control at all times. (01/16)
3. I shall breed only for the purpose of improving the quality of the breed in line with the breed standard and strive to eliminate hereditary diseases in the breed/s that I produce.
4. I shall strive to have all my breeding stock tested, where tests are available, for hereditary diseases.
5. The health and welfare of a bitch being bred from is of paramount importance and I will adhere to the following minimum standards. (01/20)
(a) No bitch owned by me and/or under my control be mated before she is twelve months of age or older as prescribed in the ANKC Ltd Regulations Part 6 (04/25)
(b) No bitch can be whelped more than twice in any 18-month period without the prior approval of the SACA. (04/25)
(c) No mother/son, father/daughter or brother/sister matings are allowed. Puppies from such matings will be registered on the Limited Register and flagged never to be upgraded. (04/25)
(d) No bitch is allowed more than 5 litters in her lifetime. Puppies from such matings will be registered on the Limited Register and flagged never to be upgraded. (04/25)
(e) No bitch over 8 years of age can be bred from unless at the time of mating there was a current veterinary certificate stating that the bitch is in good health. The veterinary certificate must be presented at the time of registering the litter resulting from this mating. A current veterinarian certificate is defined as a certificate dated within the three months prior to the mating. (04/25)
6. I shall not knowingly permit any of my pure bred dogs to be mated to a dog of a different breed, to a cross bred dog, or to an unregistered dog of the same breed, or to a dog of the same breed which is entered on the Limited Register, unless specific permission is given by the SACA.
7. I shall not sell or otherwise transfer from my care any puppy under eight weeks of age, thus allowing for vaccination to be given at six weeks of age and thereby allowing for the ten to fourteen days for the vaccine to take effect. Upon the disposal of the dog, I shall provide the owner with a current vaccination certificate of that dog issued by a Veterinary Surgeon. Accepted Veterinarian vaccination certificates are C3 12/36 months, C4, C5 or an annual Titre Test accompanied by a Veterinarian letter. (01/19)
8. I shall not knowingly sell or otherwise transfer from my care any dog that is not in good health.
9. I shall ensure that any puppy that is to be exported shall be a minimum of eleven weeks of age and micro-chipped. (01/12)
10. I shall ensure that all persons acquiring dogs from me clearly understand their responsibility for the care and welfare of the animal as defined in Clause 1 and 2 above. I shall not knowingly misrepresent the characteristics of the breed, nor falsely advertise, or mislead any person regarding the performance of any dog. I shall provide to all purchasers of dogs or those placed by me, written details of all dietary and vaccination requirements and responsible dog ownership and/or an appropriate publication relating to such requirements.
11. I shall not sell any dog to commercial dog wholesalers, retail pet dealers, or directly or indirectly to allow a dog to be given as a prize or donation in a contest of any kind or to be auctioned. (01/12)
12. I shall ensure that every dog in every litter I breed will be registered as required in the SACA Rules. (07/22)

Apart from the DogsSA stand, we had 20 displays from Breed Clubs and individual breeders as well as the Adelaide Plains Kennel & Obedience Dog Club, who also put on our Obedience demonstration.
Collectively, we comprised around one third of the total number of displays and exhibits and we were by far the biggest group of exhibitors.
We had a steady stream of people throughout the two days looking for cuddles with the dogs we had on display and importantly seeking information on the various breeds and where they could go for help in training their dogs and becoming involved in the disciplines that we conduct.
As well as our Obedience demos each day we showcased Agility, Tricks and DWD, which were all well attended by the public. The highlight of both days was again our Grand Parade of breeds, which as always created a lot of interest from the public. The organisers of the event mentioned that there was a lot of interest in when the Grand

As we did last year, we awarded prizes to the best three displays put on by our members, as selected by an independent panel of judges. We had quite a number of excellent efforts and the competition was very strong. The winners were:

Thanks also to everyone who took part in our demos. They take a bit of work to arrange, but they provide invaluable exposure of their disciplines to the public.
