President’s Message

From time to time situations come to my attention which I believe need to be shared as a timely reminder to members.

Recently I have heard that a small number of members are pressuring Show Secretaries to divulge information about entries received for the shows they manage. This of course is totally unacceptable and against the Rules of our organisation.

The following rule is relevant:-

43 EXHIBITION CATALOGUES

(6) It shall be deemed a serious offence for an official of any affiliate or person accepting entries or persons producing the Catalogue of exhibits to disclose information as to the exhibits or exhibitors for any Exhibition

So please do not put the officials in this position, and if you are an official receiving entries, please don’t be tempted to disclose this information.

A timely reminder about puppies under the age of three months being brought to events. The Rules states:-

70.6 Puppies under the age of three (3) months will not be admitted to the precincts of the Exhibition grounds at any time, nor shall any person at any time allow the mating of whelping or any bitches, nor bring nor allow to remain any bitch more than four (4) weeks in whelp, within the precincts or upon the grounds or any Exhibition, whether or not any such dog or bitch is entered in the Exhibition

Please note: 12 weeks is NOT 3 months and puppies

Celebrate everything we love about dogs at this exciting community event!

When: Sunday 19 April 2026

Time: 9am to 3pm, Cost: $6 Per Car

MUST NOT be brought to events under the age of 3 months!

It’s not uncommon for members to bring additional dogs with them to events. Please ensure you speak to the Event Manager and notify them which additional dogs you have with you. This is a requirement so we know exactly which dogs are in attendance at events.

One last thing to note, the SprintDog Track at Durack is being used regularly for their competitions. It is NOT an off lead dog exercise area. We do have two off lead areas for you to run your dogs. Please utilise these area and do NOT exercise dogs on the SprintDog Track.

Don’t forget if you do have an issue at an event, please bring it to the attention of the Event Manager on the day of the event.

We are looking forward to seeing you at our major events this month. Please see the schedule in this edition of the Dog World magazine for our ANZAC Day Service and related conformation shows. These are also fundraising shows so please show you support.

And don’t forget Dogapalooza on Sunday 19 April 2026 at Durack Dog Showgrounds. It’s set to be a day full of fun!!!

Bring your dog and have a go!

BOUVIER DES FLANDRES

Consideration must be made for the dog to have regular exercise for both its body and mind! They love to be with their family and be involved in all aspects of family life.

BREED HISTORY & DEVELOPMENT

The Bouvier des Flandres originated in the agricultural region of Flanders, spanning modernday Belgium and northern France. Developed as a multi-purpose farm dog, the breed was valued for its strength, endurance, intelligence, and versatility. Farmers required a dog that could herd cattle, pull carts, guard property, and serve as an all-purpose rural assistant.

During the Middle Ages, monks – particularly those at the Ter Duinen Abbey – are believed to have refined local cattle dogs by crossing them with larger European breeds such as Irish Wolfhounds and Scottish Deerhounds. The result was a powerful yet agile working dog capable of enduring harsh climates and demanding labour.

By the late 19th century, these farm dogs were recognised as a distinct type. In 1912, the first breed standard was written in Belgium. However, it was the First World War that profoundly shaped the breed’s history.

WORLD WAR 1 had a devastating impact on the breed. Flanders became a battlefield, and Bouviers were used extensively by Belgian forces as messenger dogs, ambulance dogs locating wounded soldiers, draft dogs hauling supplies, and sentry dogs.

Their intelligence and resilience were widely praised, but the war nearly annihilated the breed population.

WORLD WAR 2 again saw Bouviers serving as patrol, guard, and messenger dogs across Europe. Though documentation is less detailed than during WWI, they were valued for loyalty and composure under pressure.

POST-WAR reconstruction required careful breeding from surviving lines. The 1936 unified breed standard guided restoration efforts, leading to the modern Bouvier type.

Following WW2, international breeders –particularly in Belgium, France, and later the United States – played a critical role in stabilising and expanding the gene pool. The 1936 unified breed standard remained influential, and post-war breeding emphasised both working ability and

structural soundness.

The modern Bouvier still reflects its wartime resilience: powerful, steady under pressure, and loyal to its handler.

HISTORY OF THE BREED IN AUSTRALIA

The Bouvier des Flandres is a rare but respected breed in Australia. Recognised under Group 5 (Working Dogs) by Dogs Australia, the national standard aligns with the FCI breed standard adopted in 1994.

Early imports were limited, and careful breeding programs have maintained modest population numbers. Unlike Australia’s native working breeds, the Bouvier was not widely used in commercial livestock industries. Instead, it established itself in conformation showing and performance disciplines.

Due to the small breeding base, Australian breeders have occasionally imported stock from Europe and North America to preserve genetic diversity. The breed remains uncommon, but breeders have maintained high standards in health testing and type preservation.

In years gone by, there could have been up to 50 prefixes registered between Australia and New Zealand. Today there are fewer than 5 kennels

Jorga Dixon Photography

registering litters between the two countries. Breeders today continue to focus on maintaining both the working and conformation aspects of the breed.

BOUVIER DES FLANDRES IN POLICE & ARMED SERVICES

Beyond the World Wars, the Bouvier has served in various military and police capacities.

HISTORICAL ROLES

In Europe during the early and mid-20th century, Bouviers were employed as:

• Guard dogs in military compounds

• Border patrol dogs

• Messenger dogs in resistance movements

In the United States, Bouviers gained recognition in the mid-1900s for protective and police work. Their strong guarding instinct, trainability, and steady temperament made them suitable for controlled protection roles.

MODERN ROLES

While breeds such as the German Shepherd and

Belgian Malinois dominate modern police and military work, Bouviers have been used in:

• Police K9 patrol units

• Detection roles

• Personal protection services

• Military installation guarding

Their imposing presence and calm temperament make them effective deterrents. However, due to their grooming requirements and slower maturation compared to Malinois, they are less common in contemporary front-line service.

Nevertheless, some law enforcement agencies and private security units continue to value Bouviers for:

• Stability under pressure

• Strong bonding with handlers

• Controlled protective instincts

Their versatility mirrors their agrarian origins –adaptable, dependable, and intelligent.

PARTICIPATION IN DOG SPORTS

The Bouvier des Flandres excels in multiple

Kirstie
Bain

performance disciplines.

OBEDIENCE

Their intelligence and handler focus enable success in competitive obedience. Vaneepieshof Kennels have been promoting their Bouviers in this arena since the late 1990’s – their dogs are multidiscipinary performers and achieve at the top levels.

AGILITY

Despite their size, they navigate agility courses with surprising balance and athleticism.

HERDING

Herding trials reconnect the breed with its original function. This breed excels in ANKC herding events, but particularly in “A Course” and Tending styles in Australia. They predominately train and compete on sheep but will work well with cattle with the correct training. Local Bouviers have achieved Advanced titles in Tending work and started titles in A course.

RALLY & SCENT WORK

Bouviers perform well in Rally Obedience, Tracking,

and nose work, benefiting from strong scenting ability and problem-solving skills. Bouviers are being seen in the local ring at the moment competing in this area with excellent results.

CONFORMATION SHOWING

Whilst Bouviers continue to compete successfully in championship shows internationally, within Australia, they are in very small numbers these days. There have been several Supreme Champions and a number of Grand Champions registered on the ANKC database in the last twenty years This breed has been represented at Royal Shows across the country and showing its quality for many years. Sadly, they are not seen as often now.

HEALTH ISSUES OF THE BREED

Common hereditary health concerns include hip and elbow dysplasia, sub-aortic stenosis, degenerative myopathy, glaucoma, hypothyroidism, laryngeal paralysis, and gastric torsion (bloat).

Reputable breeders have been undergoing regular health screening to reduce incidence rates.

Jorga Dixon
Photography

Overall, the breed remains generally robust when responsibly bred.

SUITABILITY AS A HOUSEHOLD COMPANION?

Adding a Bouvier requires thoughtful planning. Consideration must be made for the dog to have regular exercise for both its body and mind! They love to be with their family and be involved in all aspects of family life. This is a 10 – 13 year commitment.

EXERCISE NEEDS

Daily physical and mental stimulation is essential.

TRAINING

Early socialisation and consistent leadership are crucial. Light exercise, consistent socialisation and training is recommended whilst the dog is growing. This dog will flourish and show its true potential when you are consistent with your training using positive reinforcement strategies. The connection between a Bouvier and their handler is a life long bond!

GROOMING

Regular brushing and professional trimming are recommended. Whilst this dog can look exceptionally glamorous when prepared for the show ring, it is not always the best day to day clip for the dog. A groomer can keep the coat at a manageable length if the family looks after the coat on a regular basis.

PROTECTIVE INSTINCT

Natural guarding tendencies must be shaped through training. They are protective of their family. They understand their boundaries very well and will let you know if some is around that should not be there.

FINANCIAL COMMITMENT

Large breed expenses – food, veterinary care, grooming – must be considered.

For active households prepared to invest time and leadership, the Bouvier can be deeply loyal and rewarding.

FINAL COMMENTS

Although the breed has been declining in numbers, we continue to see the true character and nature of our dogs moving forward.

They continue to excel in all areas of dog sports that they compete in. They continue to be represented in the conformation ring.

Most importantly, they still fill the hearts of all of us that have been privileged to share our lives with them. When we think of our Bouviers, we smile and remember!

Once you have been owned by a Bouvier, you never forget!

Anzac Day Dusk Service Invitation

Dogs Queensland and the Forest Lake RSL Sub Branch would like to extend an invitation to all members and their guests to attend the Anzac Day Remembrance Service to be held at the Dogs Queensland Animal War Memorial, Durack on Saturday 25 April 2021 commencing at 5pm.

Held at the conclusion of the Anzac Day Show, the service will pay homage to the lives lost of the animals who didn’t returned from active duty.

Light refreshments of a ‘cuppa’, coffee, cold drinks and Anzac biscuits will be available in the Function Room following the service.

The Animal War Memorial was dedicated and unveiled in February 2018. Since then the Forest Lake RSL Sub Branch have held annual Anzac Day services to coincide with Dogs Queensland Show days.

Each year the canine community have been able to pay their respects by laying wreaths at the memorial. ‘Rex’ continues to keep a watchful eye over the grounds at Dogs Queensland.

From the frozen training grounds of Norway to the deserts of Afghanistan, from the jungles of East Timor to the streets of Ukraine, these remarkable dogs have served in every climate and conflict. Trained to detect explosives, track enemies, protect bases, and comfort soldiers under fire, they have saved countless lives while asking for nothing in return.

Royalties will be donated to The Australian War Animal Memorial Organisation.

‘More than heroes, these dogs were lifelines — loyal, fearless, unforgettable.’

These pages share the real accounts of soldiers and handlers who trusted their lives to a dog –rescue dogs turned warriors, mascots who became comrades, and special operations canines who leapt into danger without hesitation. What sets these stories apart is not only the dogs’ loyalty and courage, but also the unbreakable bonds they forged with their human partners – bonds that endured long after the battle ended.

Dogs of War is a tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering companionship of the four-legged diggers who carried the weight of war alongside those who led them.

Military dogs on the front lines do much more than the task they are trained to do, they bring a little humanity and remind us of home, not just their handlers but all the troops around them. A simple lick on the face will bring a smile to the most hardened soldier.

The book can be purchased from the Australian War Animal Memorial website at Dogs Of WarAWAMO, the cost is $24.99. In addition from the publisher Big Sky publications at Dogs of War | Big Sky Publishing.

Nigel Allsopp MA has worked as a Military dog handler and as a specialist detection dog handler in the Queensland police service for over three decades, both in Australia and internationally. He has spent many months over the last several years in war-torn Ukraine, training handlers in advanced K9 First aid – continuing his mission to honour the animals who serve beside us.

Strengthening the Integrity of Our Registry

Transfer Program Complete –Thank You, Members

Dogs Queensland is pleased to announce the completion of our Transfer Program – a significant step forward in strengthening the accuracy, traceability, and integrity of our registry.

The overwhelming majority of members engaged constructively, reviewed their Breeder Membership records carefully, and worked with the office to bring long-standing ownership records up to date. The result is a cleaner, more accurate registry that better reflects the current status of our pedigree dogs.

This program was never about creating new rules. It was about reinforcing existing responsibilities and ensuring our registry continues to meet the high standards expected of a Dogs Australia member body.

• Total records reviewed: 39,153

• Records updated: 38,579 (~98.5% accuracy achieved)

WHAT THE TRANSFER PROGRAM ACHIEVED

Through the Transfer Program:

• Record update sheets issued: 1573

• Returned: 1,560 (~99.2% compliance rate)

• Deceased records corrected: 13,584

• Transfers processed: 10,999

Most importantly, we have strengthened the reliability of our records moving forward.

NEW OPTION TO COMPLETE TRANSFERS

EMAIL NOW AVAILABLE

We are making the process to transfer a dog easier and will accept transfers via email. All relevant paperwork and signatures (if required) must be submitted, however, these documents can be scanned (must include the front and back of the pedigree) and sent to transfers@ dogsqueensland.org.au. The original Pedigree Certificate is no longer required to complete a transfer. Transfers can still be sent by post and be done in person at the Durack office. Once the transfer has been completed, a new Pedigree Certificate will be posted to the new owner.

If you have any questions about this new process, please contact the office on (07) 3252 2661.

A REMINDER: TRANSFERS AND RECORD KEEPING IS COMPULSORY

Under Dogs Queensland Rules:

• Section 27.1 and 27.2 requires breeders to maintain proper records of breeding activities, including health treatments, whelping, vaccinations, purchases and details of new owners when dogs are sold/ gifted/leased. These records may be requested at any time to be viewed by a Dogs Queensland representative.

• Section 28.1 requires breeders to notify Dogs Queensland of ownership changes and lodge

the applicable transfer within 30 days. These obligations apply whether a dog is:

o Sold

o Gifted

o Rehomed for free

o Leased

o Otherwise transferred

The transfer requirement is triggered by the change in ownership — not by whether money changes hands.

• Section 29.1 requires the registered owner to notify dogs Queensland within 30 days of the death of a dog by sending a copy of the pedigree and marking it as deceased. This can be posted or emailed. We do not require the original pedigree.

Maintaining accurate records is not optional; it is part of your membership commitment and foundational to registry integrity.

CLARIFYING COMMON QUESTIONS

Recent discussions highlighted some recurring misunderstandings, so we would like to provide clear guidance.

Why Accurate Transfers Matter

When you sell a registered dog, you are not just placing a pet – you are transferring a registered pedigree dog recorded within the national framework.

Accurate transfers support:

• Traceability of bloodlines

• Responsible breeding oversight

• Welfare monitoring

• Accurate health and statistical data

• Integrity of the national stud book

When dogs remain recorded in a breeder’s name after they have left the property, registry data becomes unreliable and can expose breeders to unnecessary compliance risks.

Accurate records protect everyone – the breeder, the new owner, the breed, and the organisation.

Does the Purchaser Have to Sign?

Only in certain situations.

A purchaser signature is required where:

• The dog carries Limited Register restrictions that require acknowledgement; or

• There are endorsed conditions needing agreement.

For standard Main Register transfers, a purchaser signature is not required for the registry to update ownership. The breeder or current registered owner is responsible for lodging all transfers.

What About Privacy?

Providing purchaser details to Dogs Queensland for transfer purposes:

• Does not breach the Privacy Act

• Is lawful and necessary

• Forms part of fulfilling a contractual membership obligation

Dogs Queensland collects and stores information solely for legitimate registry and compliance purposes and applies appropriate data safeguards.

If there is a genuine and unusual circumstance (for example, difficulty obtaining purchaser details or a person refusing to provide their information), contact the office immediately. A case-by-case administrative pathway exists – however, general reluctance or misunderstanding does not remove the obligation to transfer.

What are the requirements for updating microchip details?

Under Section 16(2) of the Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008, the owner of the dog must give notice to the relevant microchip registry of any changed information, including ownership, within 7 days.

This is enforced by your local Council and they may issue an infringement notice of $834 (maximum fine for this offence).

If you are unsure which registry your dog is registered with, you can search the microchip here at Pet Address. Simply type the microchip number in the search field; then click to search. If your number is found in one of the databases you will be directed to the database for further information.

MOVING AHEAD

The completion of the Transfer Program marks a positive milestone. It also serves as a reminder that ongoing diligence is essential. Dogs Queensland will run the program on an annual basis to ensure records remain current.

Keeping your transfers current protects:

• Your prefix

• Your reputation

• Your breed

• Your fellow members

• The integrity of the Dogs Australia framework

If you are ever unsure about the status of a dog recorded under your prefix, please contact the office. Our team is here to support you.

Together, we maintain a registry we can be proud of — one built on accountability, transparency, and shared commitment to the future of purebred dogs.

BURNETT KENNEL CLUB INC CHAMPIONSHIP SHOWS

As a result of adverse weather conditions, the Burnett Kennel Club Inc. made the decision to relocate its four Championship Shows to the Dogs Queensland Sports Grounds, Durack. The shows were held from Friday 13 March through to Sunday 15 March 2026.

The Club was honoured to welcome a highly regarded and respected panel of All Breeds Judges from South Australia—Ms K Harvey, Ms S Foster, Mrs J Butterfield, and Mrs L Niemann—who judged across the weekend and assessed a strong lineup of entries.

Congratulations to all winners, and a sincere thank you to the exhibitors who participated, our respected judges for their expertise and dedication, and the many hardworking volunteers whose efforts contributed to the success of the event.

Fun at Dog Shows? What’s Maryborough Kennel Club Up To This Time??

– Katrina Santas Show Secretary, Maryborough Kennel Club Inc

Thanks to everyone for joining us at Maryborough Kennel Club in February, the show was a little damp but the spirits of the exhibitors was most certainly NOT!

Besides from having a couple of dog shows … the club put on a free event again for some laughs and fun … this time, Irish Sweepstakes!

Sooooo … what is Irish Sweepstakes? Well, it’s usually two dogs in a Brace with two handlers … but they’re two completely different breeds! Now that’s Irish!

But wait … it doesn’t stop there! The judge … well, that was me! Gave each Brace a task to do in the ring … and this is where creativity took over! So, if you were asked to take your Brace around the ring … you had to be Irish about it?? Sooooo … the exhibitors had to think on the spot, how might an Irish Brace team do that? Sooooo … they went around the ring in opposite directions! Perfect!

Another Brace was asked to do an out and back … one went out and the other left the ring, it went back to camp! And when it came to stacking your dog … well another Irish Brace team went all creative and stacked their Pug on the back of the Bull Mastiff!

Fun times and many a laugh was had … what a great way to have a little fun in the rain and certainly got everyone cheering for their favourite very Irish Brace team.

If you’d like to see the fun times at Maryborough Shows, pop onto the club’s Facebook page (Maryborough Kennel Club Inc) and see the video of our fun! Look out November … what will we get up to then at our shows???

Thanks to John Jewell for capturing the fun on camera and Nic Wilson for the video! If you would like any fun photos or podium images, please contact Sherry Jewell through Facebook and her husband John will send them over to you free of charge … thanks Sherry and John!

SPECIAL AWARDS

Barbara Murfet made a special announcement of Life Membership. Congratulations to Patricia from Cairns.

I would like to nominate Patricia (Tricia) Williams member number 4100028830 for Life membership of Dogs Queensland. I believe Tricia has demonstrated her commitment to Dog Sports in our state by the following:

• Tricia has been a member of Dogs Queensland for 20+ years.

• Tricia has been an active member of the Cairns City Kennel Club (The Club) for 20+ years.

• She was awarded Life membership of the Club in 2016.

• She held the position of Obedience Treasurer for the Club for 8 years and is now Vice President for our Dog Sports Section, as of this year.

• Prior to being Obedience Treasurer she held the position of Trial Secretary for 7 years.

• In 2022 she took on the role of the Club Treasurer overseeing all sections of the club. This includes supervising the Dog Sports and Conformation section treasurers, who are both new to the role this year.

• She has been the Agility head trainer at CCKC for 15 years by running two classes weekly on Thursday nights and another on Sunday afternoon. This brings new members to the sport who often go on to compete and be active members of Dogs Queensland. This dedication brings new competitors to the sport and Dogs Queensland every year. Tricia has been the driving force in creating one of the strongest Agility teams in the state. This was evident in the number of competitors who travelled from Cairns to Brisbane the last few years to participate in the State Agility Championships with some eye catching results.

• Her patience and encouragement at training new handlers is immense. She will train her own dog last after spending time with other handlers to make sure everyone is OK.

• She is always ready to offer advice and share information willingly. She enrols in online training courses at her own expense from Obedience, Agility and canine conditioning to improve her skills and knowledge which are vast.

• Tricia volunteers endlessly and not just at events that she is already attending. As well as stewarding for Obedience and Agility she has volunteered at the Scent Work trial we have held in the last few years, including mock trials and judges training even though she does not compete in Scent Work.

• A s an Obedience judge for all levels up to and including UD she is a valuable asset to the sport of Dog Obedience and is always ready to step in and help others. Judging means that she cannot always compete with her own dogs.

• Tricia has been selflessly training and mentoring our current Obedience trainee judge, Silke Weyland, by working with club dogs on her judging skills every week. She comes to the club to do this even though she does not attend training herself that day.

• When attending other clubs she will always be there helping to set Agility courses, and stewarding at Agility and Obedience. She will attend other clubs to help even when she is not entered with her own dogs, turning up purely to volunteer. She is always supportive of any handler, regardless whether they are members of our club or other clubs

• In support of the sport of Agility in our region and the State, Tricia gained her licence to judge Jumping and Agility.

• When the Club puts on displays and demonstrations Tricia will always be there to help. She even does this when she has her dogs out with injury and she cannot join in the display.

• Tricia is always pleasant, willing to pitch in wherever needed and just a thoroughly nice person who always has time to help, with a few words of encouragement for all.

Considering all this, I believe that Tricia’s ongoing dedication and commitment to Dog Sports in our State deserves recognition and that she would be a worthy recipient of Dogs Queensland Life Membership.

Kennel Club conducts first championship show

The first championship show for dogs conducted by the Central Western Kennel Club, was held in Longreach over the weekend.

Eighty-nine dogs were nominated, a number which is remarkable when one considers the population of the district.

The dogs came from all over the Central West, from Warwick and about 40 dogs arrived from Mt Morgan.

The largest number of one breed was German Shepherds which counted 26 entries.

The judge, Mr R. Holmes from Brisbane was very surprised both at the number of dogs and of the quality.

The interest among spectators was large and a big crowd attended the show.

The club held a social barbeque on Saturday night, which also was very successful.

Champion of the show was an Afghan Hound from Mt Isa, Bethsheba Kin-Gin owned by Mr M. Daidge.

Bethsheba also won the intermediate, the Australian bred and the open championships.

Reserve champion was Jonval Tijuana, a Welsh Corgi (Pembroke) from Barcaldine, owned by a member of the club, Mr J. Burgess.

The best baby puppy was an Australian Terrier, Janela Just Joe, owned by Mr D.L.A. Smith of Mt Isa.

Minor puppy champion was a Welsh Corgi, Aberlee Midnight Time, also owned by Mr J. Burgess.

A Longreach dog, Biggadane Maryanne and owned by Mr and Mrs C. Ballard, won the Champion puppy, the Puppy class entry and junior puppy.

Biggadane Maryanne is a Great Dane.

The best brace of show was won by the president in the Central Western Kennel Club, Mrs C. Scarr’s two Dalmations.

During the weekend a Novice Obedience Trial was held, with 18 dogs nominated.

The judge was Mr L. Allan from Rockhampton, and again the judge was impressed with the numbers of dogs nominated and their high standards.

Four dogs qualified, which means they had to get 170 points out of a possible 200.

All the dogs were from Mt Isa, and they were all German Shepherds.

Awamate Graefin Golde, a bitch owned by Mr and Mrs Raffetseder, obtained 186 points.

Tie Me Down Peter Pan owned by Mr D.L.A Smith got 182 points.

Bruken Marina, also a bitch owned by Mrs J. Fosen got 181 points and finally Awamate Swanleigh Radar, owned by Mr and Mrs Raffetseder got 172 points from the judge.

Breeder Alert –Puppy Scam Websites

Dogs Queensland has become increasingly aware of Puppy Scam Websites using legitimate Dogs Queensland Registration and Queensland Breeder Identification (BIN) Numbers to sell puppies. Dogs Queensland Registration Numbers are obtained from legitimate websites such as Dogs Queensland or DogzOnline, where they are displayed as required by the Queensland Government.

Please see the Queensland Dog Breeder Fact Sheets for regulations and guidelines for Queensland Dog Breeders.

An example of a typical scam is:

• A Dogs Queensland Membership number is lifted from current advertising on the internet.

• The scammer researches and obtains personal details of the breeder including name, suburb, prefix.

• A domain name similar to the Kennel prefix is registered on an offshore registry.

• Once the breeder has ceased advertising the litter of puppies a new website is published.

• No physical address or phone numbers are advertised on the website.

• The seller avoids permitting you to physically see the cyber puppy and only sends non genuine pictures.

• The seller insists on only accepting payment by a crypto currency or a funds transfer.

As a breeder what can you do to avoid being an unknowing victim of a Puppy Scam:

• Regularly Google search the internet for websites using a similar Domain Name as your Prefix.

• Put a warning notification in your online advertising to alert buyers to check any website they are looking at is legitimate.

• Encourage puppy buyers to verify breeder information with Dogs Queensland and make direct in-person contact with you.

• Ensure puppy buyers check communications are made with verified contact details.

• Encourage puppy buyers to meet the puppy and breeder before handing over payments.

Written by distinguished veterinarian Karen Hedberg, the Dog Owner’s Manual takes you through the process of choosing and raising a puppy. It also includes breeding, geriatric care, lists canine ailments and summarises various treatments.

Clearly written and easy to comprehend, this book provides an up-to-date one-stop reference for both breeders and all those who really care for their dogs.

To purchase your copy, visit Dogs Queensland, phone the office on 3252 2661 or email pina@dogsqueensland.org.au. The Dog Owner’s Manual is priced at only $50.00 plus postage.
