Oftentimes when a person with lupus has a lupus flair, they may not look sick, however looks can be deceiving. Some of the symptoms such as extreme fatigue, painful and swollen joints, mouth or nose ulcers, Edema-swelling in feet, legs and hands can make daily tasks difficult. One of the hardest things for a lupus patient to hear when in a flair is someone saying, “You do not look sick.”
40-70% of people with lupus will find that their disease is made worse by exposure to UV rays from sunlight or artificial light and cause a possible flare. It is important for lupus patients to protect themselves at all times by using sunscreen, wearing hats & sunglass, sometimes using an umbrella or wearing clothing with UV protection.

For a lupus patient to able to do everything they need to do and want to do... IT’S A GOOD DAY!
Purple is the recognized awareness color for lupus. May is Lupus awareness month.
Much is unknown about lupus, and research is needed to discover more definitive causes, better treatments, and someday, find a cure.
