Call Me Mr.

Call Me Mr. is a mentoring program that helps young men matriculate through high school and college. The mentors are dedicated, focused, and intentional about promoting higher education along with the importance of succeeding in high school. In addition, they help young men realize their potential and work towards accomplishing their goals.

BEING A COLLEGE STUDENT

According to Thomas Frank (2025), being a college student in the 21 century is well worth it but challenging. Along with the cost, the course work is difficult. It takes strong time management skills, organization skills, the ability to work with others, and having a strong supportive network to maneuver through the world of higher learning. The Call Me Mr. students receive these skills by attending various workshops opportunities, field trips, and by working with a mentor.

Collegiate students on campus love being college students and spending most of their time at Cedar Valley Campus. This helps them to prepare for the next chapter in life. The Call Me Mr. Program helps with providing strategies to help these students to stay focused, and to accomplish the goal of graduating. Anthony Curry states that being apart of the Call Me Mr. Program has given him the motivation to graduate with his degree and work towards his future goal of being an engineer.

Mentoring High School and College Students

Another big part of the mentoring program is exposure. Even though the collegiate students attend Cedar Valley, the goal of the program is to expose students to 4 year universities. The Call Me Mr. program has partnerships with local universities as well as universities located in other states. Students get the opportunity to connect with the advising and recruitment teams. It is great to learn what options are available beyond Carter and Cedar Valley says Benjamin Oriedo.

In addition to learning more about college, the Call Me Mr. Program provides opportunities for male bonding. With the field trips and out of school experiences the Call Me Mr. Program helps to form friendships that will continue beyond High School. We want to thank our Principal Mr. Tyson and Admin team for bringing this mentoring program to our campus. The Call Me Mr. Program is still accepting students. If you want to get involved please see Mr. McKenzie or Mr. Myers. Go Carter Cowboys.
