Welcome to Episcopal Day School of St. Matthew At Episcopal Day, our nurturing teachers, small class sizes, and close-knit community provide an exceptional foundation for every student. DEIB TEAM GOALS Integrating discussions of identity and justice into our curriculum, building a safe and respectful community, and being in service to others. These goals will span all areas of our community life, from classroom lessons to school-wide initiatives, in order to empower all of us with the skills needed to navigate and challenge the inequities we see in our world.

LEARNING THROUGH ACTION At Episcopal Day, leadership means making a difference. Through service learning units integrated into every grade, students explore what it means to be compassionate neighbors and agents of positive change. Each unit ends in a hands-on project that connects classroom learning to real-world impact. Our students’ footprints are visible across San Mateo and beyond, as they live out our school values through meaningful service.
Service LEARNING ROOTED IN SAN MATEO, REACHING OUTWARD Being in the heart of San Mateo allows our students to step beyond campus and engage directly with the world around them. These experiences create powerful links between academic learning and civic responsibility.

Partnership with Purpose At Episcopal Day, we believe education is most powerful when home and school work hand in hand. From day one, our campus buzzes with energy, performances, assemblies, field trips, and special events, all enriched by the time and talents of our parent and guardian community.
Volunteer opportunities are coordinated through the Day School Parents’ Association (DSPA), led by a dedicated committee that meets monthly to support school life and build community. Frequently Asked Questions Where do students attend high school? Our students are well prepared and attend highly selective independent, boarding, parochial, and public high schools. Our high school guidance team helps families find the best fit for their child. Do you have to be religious or Episcopal to attend Episcopal Day? No, in fact, only 10% of our families are Episcopalian. We welcome and affirm students from all faith traditions and those who do not have a background of faith. We engage in inclusive common worship and respect the dignity of every human being.
What is the daily schedule? Pre-Kindergarten: 8 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Kindergarten: 8 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. Grades 1-2: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Grades 3-5: 8 a.m. to 3:10 p.m. Grades 6-8: 8 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. *Wednesdays are a late start day and all students start at 8:50 am and end the day at the times listed above by grade.
Frequently Asked Questions Does Episcopal Day offer extended care and enrichment programs? Morning care is available 7:30 to 8 a.m. (9 a.m. on Wednesdays). The Mustang Afterschool Program (MAP) provides after-school activities Monday through Friday from dismissal until 6 p.m. for all students in pre-K through eighth grade. Time is set aside in the afternoon for free play and families also have the option to sign up for enrichment classes, ranging from sports to music.
Does Episcopal Day provide financial assistance? Episcopal Day is committed to making our educational program accessible to all families. Our hope is that all mission-aligned families can afford an Episcopal Day education regardless of their social or economic background. The tuition assistance application is entirely separate from our need-blind process. Episcopal Day School of St. Matthew welcomes students and families of all races, colors, genders, sexual orientations, and national and ethnic origins to all the school's rights, privileges, programs, and activities.
What are the 2026-27 Tuition Rates? Pre-Kindergarten: $37,000 Kindergarten through Fifth Grade: $46,575 Sixth through Eighth Grade: $49,950 At Episcopal Day, we recognize that an independent school education is a significant investment in your child's future and it is a 'gift for a lifetime.' As a part of the Episcopal value of inclusivity, we strive to make Episcopal Day a place for all students to thrive. Our financial assistance program makes Episcopal Day accessible and affordable. We encourage families to apply for admission regardless of their financial circumstances.
Which world languages do you offer? All students study Spanish in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. Students may choose between Spanish or Mandarin when beginning their sixth grade year and continue through eighth grade.

AUXILIARY PROGRAMS Our Auxiliary Programs are designed to meet our families' needs and our students' interests by providing daily afterschool activities, as well as day camps during select school breaks. Our Auxiliary Programs are made up of three main offerings: the Mustang Afterschool Program (MAP), our Learning Enrichment Afterschool Program (LEAP), and our Mustang Day Camps.
Mustang Afterschool Program (MAP) MAP is a space for children to explore their creativity and strengthen their social and emotional learning in a fun and engaging afterschool setting. In MAP, students can expect to participate in free play, structured games, inside quiet/reading time, homework help, art projects, and more. MAP - Pre-K and Kindergarten (Charles House) (Annual fees at a flat rate or an hourly rate apply) Morning Care: Begins at 7:30 a.m. (Monday to Friday) Afternoon Care: available until 6 p.m.

Mustang Day Camps Students in pre-K through eighth grade have the option of participating in our Mustang Day Camps. Mustang Day Camps are an active, engaging experience for children during minimum days, school closure days, and summer.
Learning Enrichment Afterschool Program (LEAP) Students in kindergarten through eighth grade have the option of participating in our LEAP courses. We work with qualified individuals and organizations to make sure our LEAP courses provides the best experiences for our students.
