Chicago Christian Academy At Chicago Christian Academy, we are committed to cultivating an environment of joy, excellence, and deep growth: intellectually, relationally, morally, and spiritually. We believe that uniforms play a meaningful role in supporting this vision. Wearing a uniform helps students approach their school day with intentionality, reinforcing that what happens in the classroom is significant. Uniforms also help reduce social comparison and distractions related to clothing, allowing students to focus on what truly matters. From a practical perspective, uniforms contribute to safety and security by clearly identifying students both on campus and off. In many ways, uniforms are a form of preparation for adulthood, where dress codes and professional attire are common across a wide range of careers, from healthcare and public service to athletics and the legal field. That said, we recognize that unclear expectations around uniforms can lead to confusion and stress. This handbook is designed to eliminate that uncertainty. Inside, you'll find detailed information for each grade level, with guidelines tailored by gender and day of the week. Items marked with an asterisk (*) include additional notes in the Definitions section. Please review the handbook carefully and refer to the correct uniform chart for each of your students. Pay close attention to both the daily basic and dress uniform requirements, as there are subtle but important differences based on age.

UNIFORM POLICY OVERVIEW
Students are required to be in uniform whenever they are at school and at most school-related functions. Parents are strongly encouraged to label all clothing with their child’s name. CCA Basic Uniform The Basic Uniform is worn Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. See tables for details. CCA Dress (or Chapel) Uniform The CCA Dress (or Chapel) Uniform is worn on Wednesdays for Chapel, and for some field trips and school programs as instructed by the teacher. See tables for details. PE Class Uniforms Students are required to wear the designated CCA PE uniform on Fridays. The PE uniform includes the following: CCA T-Shirt – Must be the official CCA t-shirt purchased through the school store. CCA Sweatshirt (Optional) – Must be the official CCA t-shirt purchased through the school store. Navy Jogger Style Athletic Pants - Any navy pull on pants with tapered leg and elasticized ankle cuffs made from athletic, fleece or sweat pant material. Gym Shorts (Optional) – Any navy knee length athletic shorts to wear on warmer days. PE uniforms should be clean, modest, and in good condition at all times. CCA PE t-shirts and sweatshirts from the 2024–2025 school year will be permitted during the 2026–2027 school year. Official Classic Navy Plaid and Embroidered Items All CCA plaid and embroidered items must be purchased at Lands End at https://www.landsend.com/co/account/schooluniforms (school code 900201997). All other items may be purchased from any vendor. Preschool may take items to be embroidered at Bucktown Embroidery (2114 N. Western Ave.) for $5 embroidery. Cold and Wet Weather Accommodations In cold or wet weather, students must wear boots or outdoor shoes and appropriate outerwear such as coats, scarves, hats, snow pants, etc. when arriving, dismissing, or outside, but must remove them upon arrival in the classroom and bring uniform shoes to put on in the classroom. Neatness, Hair, and Jewelry Neatness and appropriate hair care receive the same attention as student dress. Students are expected to wear hairstyles or haircuts that align with traditionally masculine or feminine standards. Hairstyles should be neat, tidy, and appropriate for a school setting.We recognize and welcome hairstyles that are historically associated with race, ethnicity, or hair texture, including, but not limited to, protective hairstyles such as braids, locks, and twists. Hair color must be one that occurs naturally in human hair (e.g., black, brown, blonde, red). Bright or artificial colors, including tinsel or other decorative additions, are not permitted. No make up is allowed besides clear lip gloss. Young ladies may wear clear or pale pink nail polish. Nail length must be short and artificial nails are not allowed. Jewelry, or hair accessories may be worn but must follow the uniform code. Clothing may not be excessively worn out or have holes.
Preschool Girls: Stud earrings only and hair beads allowed if not a distraction. No bracelets, necklaces, rings, or dangling earrings. Primary Girls: Watch, small necklace, hair beads and/or small bracelets allowed if not a distraction (longer necklaces should be kept under shirt) Small stud earrings allowed. Any color hair ties without additional accessories are allowed. For safety reasons, no hoops or dangling earrings are permitted. Secondary Prep Girls: Watch, small necklace, hair beads and/or small bracelets allowed if not a distraction (longer necklaces should be kept under shirt) Small hoop earrings allowed. Any color hair ties without additional accessories are allowed. For safety reasons, no large hoop earrings are permitted.
Uniform Dress Code Violation If faculty notices a dress code violation,* they will notify parents through a Dress Code Violation Form (via ClassReach). After four dress code violations in a semester, an office visit will follow in addition to email notification. After the 5th violation within a semester, the student will be sent home. Subsequent dress code violations will require the Administration to treat the violations as office visits in accordance with the discipline policy. *A dress code violation is something that cannot be corrected in class.

DEFINITIONS Chino trousers: Dress pants with a more tailored and streamlined look, specifically without pleats or extra seams. Pockets are small and internal, so that pocket stitching is not visible from the outside of the pants. Back pockets appear as small slits. Khaki or navy. Trouser joggers: Pull-on pants designed with a tapered leg and elasticized ankle cuffs, made from woven or structured fabric such as twill, chino, or other non-athletic materials. These joggers include an elastic waistband with a functional drawstring for adjustability. Not made of athletic, fleece, or sweatpant material. Chino shorts: Shorts version of chino trousers, so similarly (as above), pockets are small and internal, so that pocket stitching is not visible from the outside of the pants. Back pockets appear as small slits. Khaki or navy. Chino Bermuda shorts (girls): Chino-style (as described above), knee-length shorts. Navy. Pleated skirt or skort: Skirt or skort with pleats, or horizontal folds of cloth made by sewing or pressing two parts of the cloth together. Peter Pan collar shirt (girls): A white, short-sleeved blouse made of lightweight fabric, featuring a rounded Peter Pan collar. This is a traditional button-down shirt and not a polo shirt. Sweatshirt: Warm layer usually thick/soft, often made of cotton, more casual than sweater. Smart watch: Wristwatch with communication, image, camera, or gaming functions, regardless of parental control settings. Students may not wear or use smart watches at school or on field trips at any time, even with parental controls set. As of now, FitBits or similar touch screen watches without the functions listed above are allowed. If a student has a smart watch, it must stay in the backpack at all times during the school day

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS This page will be updated as questions arise! 1. Can my child wear a non-uniform jacket in class? No. They can wear the approved outerwear. Exceptions may be made with the teacher’s approval in the case of an unusually cold classroom. 2. Can my child remove the vest/cardigan during the day on chapel dress days? Students may remove their vest/cardigan with the teacher’s approval. 3. Why do I need to write my student’s name on clothing items? Because all students’ uniform items look similar, lost clothing items (especially vests, cardigans, jackets, and ties) are much more likely to be reunited with their owner if the name is marked. 4. What if I have ordered a uniform item (e.g. a monogrammed item or new shoes) and it has not yet arrived? Let your child’s teacher know that you have ordered this item and it is on the way. You will just receive a one-time uniform notice rather than a daily notice until the item arrives. Families have two weeks to acquire the appropriate items. If more time is needed, please contact info@chicagochristianacademy.org 5. What will happen if my student’s watch, bracelet, or necklace becomes a distraction? Your child’s teacher may ask your child to put the item in his or her backpack for the rest of the day. If these items are regularly distracting for a student, the teacher may reach out to ask you not to send your child with these items. Families are encouraged not to send their children with accessories that are expensive, sentimental, or would for other reasons be a great loss if the item were broken or misplaced. 6. Can my child wear dress uniform pieces on days when there is no Chapel? Yes.
