ghd’s London ID design team and Cambridge R&D worked closely in redesigning the styler to provide perfect styling in a new light weight design. Moving key technical aspects into the new ghd designed plug allowing for new slimmer arms, over all more ergonomic design making styling effortless with greater agility and providing a higher level of creative freedom when styling.
To style your hair, you temporarily break the hydrogen bonds within the hair fiber by either removing water (blow-drying) or applying heat (straightening or curling). Once the hair cools, these bonds reform, creating a new shape.
However, too much heat facilitates changes beyond breakage of hydrogen bonds causing breakage of other bonds e.g. Di-sulphide bonds and damage to internal intermediate keratin filaments. These are essential for maintaining the health of your natural hair. These bonds act like scaffolding inside the hair fiber, giving it shape, strength, elasticity, and smoothness. Excessively high temperatures can permanently damage the internal structure of the hair, including key proteins such as keratin. This damage can be so severe that, even after washing, the hair may not return to its original shape.
