WiCT Celebrates Achievements at Annual Luncheon

Women in Consumer Technology (WiCT) held its 17th-annual luncheon on Friday to honor women in the integration industry during CEDIA Expo/CIX 2025. The Legacy Awards recognized eight women for their contributions to the industry, but the award winners emphasized that their success was partly due to a team effort.

Shari Sally, VP of sales and business development for the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), credited her supervisors for seeing her potential when she started at the organization as an intern. The CTA puts on the juggernaut of trade shows, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), every year in Las Vegas.

“All of these people, both men and women, believed in me and helped shape me not to accept the status quo,” Sally said.

Meanwhile, Michelle Lueck, founder and president of Gritworks Consulting, emphasized the importance of mentorships for women. “Standing here today, I think how lucky I have been to have incredible mentors, the kind who saw something in me before I saw it in myself,” she said.

WiCT offers opportunities for women in the industry looking for connection and advice. Carol Campbell, founder of WICT, encouraged women at Expo to take advantage of the free Connect Circle program.

Amanda Wildman, the owner of TruMedia and vice chairperson of CEDIA, also highlighted the

importance of working together as a community. “If each one of us commits to lifting up just one more person, we will build momentum that will change the face of this industry for good,” she said.

Michelle Troupe, supply chain operations PA and supplier manager at Boeing, sees a bright future for women in the integration industry. “What excites me the most is that in the room right now, there’s the next generation of women in leadership,” Troupe observed.

Jana Stevens, who received the Carol Campbell Inspiration Award, reflected on how the industry has changed since she and her husband, Chris Stevens, opened Phoenix Systems in 1979. Chris Stevens and Tom Doherty went on to found CEDIA in 1989, but

it was Jana’s idea to start a trade association.

At that time, she said there were few women in the industry, but she feels inspired by women joining the ranks. Stevens predicted the next generation of women will usher in a new landscape in the integration industry.

“We are at the edge of an entirely new paradigm in technology,” said Stevens. “I don’t know what you’re going to create, but the possibilities are wide open.”

Other award winners included: Gabi Hughes, who received the Technical Excellence Award; Ellie Doherty, who received the Woman to Watch Award; and Stephanie Ann Spears Casimiro, who received the Volunteer of the Year Award.

SIM2 MULTIMEDIA, SR2 As SIM2 celebrates its 30th anniversary, the company has been providing live demos of its new ULTRANERO 4 home cinema projector line at Expo. The projector features ceramic components that offer outstanding efficiency, durability, colorimetry, and quiet operation. Quantum Media Systems Dazzles with XDR4-8K Extreme LED Video Wall

MR 207 Demonstrating at its fourth Expo, Ken Hoffman, CEO of Quantum Media Systems, admits the company feels pressure to up the ante at each show, topping the performance and quality of its LED video walls. And after sitting through a demonstration which included native 8K content shot on RED Digital Cinema cameras, as well as the latest trailers for Avatar: Fire and Ash and Tron: Ares, I’d say the company has succeeded in its goal.

This year, Quantum displayed its latest generation XDR4-8K display, a 20-foot-wide, DCIcompliant wall that is capable of delivering near infinite contrast, 100% coverage of the P3 color space, and producing 2,000 nits brightness for a better-than-cinema HDR display. Compared to projection, the LED video wall delivers perfect corner-to-corner focus, superior contrast, and the ability to be used in rooms with ambient light, as well as not requiring any screen masking for different aspect ratio support.

To allow viewers to sit closer to the screen without seeing distracting seams or visible pixelation, the XDR4-8K features an industry-leading .7mm pixel pitch. The company says this ultra-fine pitch not only improves clarity and realism, but enables viewers to sit as close as 6 feet from the screen, which allows for more seating options.

Hoffman stressed that another reason for

Quantum’s terrific picture quality is the white glove service that comes with each display, which includes full installation and calibration from Quantum’s in-house experts.

The company’s latest proprietary image processor is HDMI 2.1, with the ability to accept 8K signals up to 48 Gbps. Hoffman says that Quantum developed the industry’s first 8K DCI-compliant display, which is in use in a 36-foot-wide Cinemascope screening room in Southern California, and the company has walls that are used in Hollywood post-production facilities.

Beyond films, Hoffman adds the XDR4-8K is also great for gaming, as the wall has low latency, plus support for high frame rates (up to 144 Hz) with no image tearing.

Attendees can see the XDR4-8K Extreme in Quantum’s Meeting Room (207), or on the show floor at Kaleidescape’s booth 3107.

Crestron Commits to ‘True Blue’ Campaign

BOOTH 1901 Over the past 50-plus years, Creston has maintained a corporate culture driven by innovation and a commitment to excellence. Now, the company has officially put a name to that philosophy, True Blue, a nod to its customer service efforts known as True Blue Support.

Brad Hintze, EVP of global marketing for Crestron, says the True Blue corporate culture is “fueled by a love for innovation and pushing the envelope to discover what’s next. We embrace new ideas, explore emerging technologies, and collaborate with you to create solutions that redefine what technology can do. It’s something we embrace across every market.”

According to Hintze, training is a critical component of Crestron’s True Blue approach. For example, the Crestron Masters program maintains its focus on pushing the boundaries of a robust curriculum and encouraging creativity among programmers, while the Crestron Technical Institute (CTI) and ongoing technical webinars offer year-round opportunities for continued involvement.

“Stellar customer service, collaborative feature development, and dedicated training offerings are intrinsic to our company culture, as are the experiences we deliver to our customers and partners,” he adds.

Beyond its True Blue campaign, Creston is focused on its three Cs at CEDIA: content, collaboration, and control. “Control has always been key to Crestron’s DNA, and our residential solutions unite smart home management with the Crestron Home OS platform or with a custom-programmed solution,” Hintze explains. “Our content distribution platform is how we achieve entertainment everywhere, routing audio and video seamlessly to deliver the perfect ambiance for game day or a dinner party. Collaboration refers to our open ecosystem and how we work with our partners to bring in third-party solutions.”

Sonance Keeps Focus on Elevating Sound Experience for Homes

BOOTH 3501 Jason Sloan, chief revenue officer for Sonance, lays out the plans behind the company’s exhibit and its philosophies for working with dealers.

What are Sonance’s priorities and goals in attending Expo this year?

JASON SLOAN: At Sonance, we’ve always believed that “Life is Better with Music.” Our purpose at CEDIA Expo/CIX, as with every show, is to bring that belief to life through immersive products and story-driven selling strategies that reveal the value of hidden audio. From our perspective, designing for comfort is the smartest way to unlock deeper emotional and functional value in every space. And comfort isn’t about adding more speakers—it’s about integrating sound so seamlessly, so invisibly, that music feels like a natural part of the environment. When audio is delivered in a way that honors the space and elevates the experience, something magical happens: Houses become homes.

What products can dealers expect to experience at the Sonance booth?

JS: The Sonance Experience Demo, a perennial CEDIA favorite, will showcase the flagship James Small Aperture SA68s, the completely reimagined James PowerPipe X12s, the all-Invisible IS6s for immersive channels, and we’re beyond excited to have everything powered by the new Blaze amplifiers! Beyond the Sonance Experience Demo, we also have plenty of active on-wall demonstrations.

In terms of trends, which Sonance products are most in demand from integrators?

JS: The industry-wide shift toward a design-first selling strategy continues to propel the explosive growth of the Sonance Invisible and Sonance and James Small Aperture lines. These solutions allow dealers to deliver exceptional audio without compromising the aesthetics of a space.

We’re also seeing great momentum around the new Sonance UA 2-125 ARC and UA 2-125 amplifiers, with strong pre-order and launch activity in August. Dealers are clearly seeking simplified, bettersounding TV audio solutions for secondary zones— ones that don’t sacrifice design. We’re excited to see

how the UA 2-125 ARC and UA 2-125 empower dealers to deliver more value, more often.

What will dealers learn about getting started with Sonance at your booth?

JS: They’ll get introduced to more than just our products; they’ll discover what it feels like to partner with Sonance. From our perspective, authentic partnership is the most important thing we offer. It means we don’t just sell audio solutions—we stand shoulder-toshoulder with our dealers to help them win. Getting started with Sonance means gaining a team that helps you integrate sound beautifully, sell more confidently, and stand out in every project.

Elevate Your Profits with Software Tools

More often than not, integrators are so busy working in their businesses that they barely seem to have any time to work on their businesses. So, it’s even more important today that integrators leverage new and existing software tools to help stay organized and ensure their projects are profitable.

Randy Sterns, CEO, D-Tools, and Chris Smith, principal at TheCoTeam, along with moderator Dan Ferrisi, group editor for Emerald, took to the CEDIA Expo/CIX Smart Stage for Friday morning’s “How Software Tools Help Integrators Run Better, More Profitable Businesses” panel discussion. The conversation offered an opportunity for them to share their expertise on what tools to look for with software solutions, identify costs many overlook, and provide tips on how to get a more successful buy-in.

According to the 2024 CE Pro Software Deep Dive Study, an integration company uses between four and five different software solutions on average to run their business, ranging from financial software such as QuickBooks to more niche software for vehicle tracking. The study also found that using an industry-specific software solution as opposed to juggling Microsoft Word and Excel will boost an integrator’s profit by 13%.

With regard to using industry-specific software solutions versus a hybrid approach, Sterns and Smith agreed that having the right tools for the job is essential for integrators to save money and manpower.

“Businesses are complex, and there are tools that

are set up to do exactly what you need every day,” said Smith. “You’ll quickly realize you need to make sure you’re using the right tool for the job. Word has a place, Excel has a place, but they are not effective for actually running a strategy for a business.”

“Software conversions and implementations are challenging and time-consuming—and a distraction from the day-to-day,” added Sterns. “So, I think the first question is, why do it at all? There needs to be a compelling reason ... and some serious pain points within the organization or strategic objectives that cannot be met without making some sort of change. Then it’s a good, useful exercise to determine the value of the piece of software within the organization.”

The panel also addressed the importance of not

giving in to “shiny object syndrome” and taking the proper steps to evaluate business processes and needs. In particular, identify responsibilities of individuals and consult within your organization to get buy-in from the team before purchasing and going through the difficulty of adopting a new software solution.

When it comes to the stage of choosing the best integrator software solution for your organization, Smith advised attendees to pick one and go. “The faster you pick it and go, the faster you’ll get started,” Smith said. “The faster you get started, the faster you’ll feel the pain and fix those pain points. Don’t get caught in a paralysis position. Pick one and move.”

Lutron Unveils Native by Design Program at Destination Outdoors Evening Event

Attendees at CEDIA Expo/CIX 2025 were invited to step outside the show floor on Thursday evening for the Destination Outdoors event, co-hosted by Coastal Source and Lutron, with sponsorship from Draper and Access Networks. The 24,000-squarefoot exhibit showcased the latest in outdoor smart technology, from weatherproof displays to highperformance AV and intelligent lighting systems.

Destination Outdoors continued during the show on Friday directly across from the Colorado Convention Center. The space offered live demonstrations, hands-on activities, and networking opportunities with manufacturers and integrators focused on outdoor living solutions.

A highlight of the Thursday night event came with Lutron’s announcement of its new Native by Design program, aimed at embedding Lutron’s core technologies directly into partner products. Edward J. Blair, president and vice-chairman of the board at Lutron, described the initiative as a step toward simplifying integration for professionals while ensuring performance and reliability.

Lutron’s newest Native by Design partner is Coastal Source, a brand recognized for its durable outdoor fixtures. Together, the companies introduced VIA, a new line of landscape lighting products that integrate Lutron’s Ketra and Rania technologies.

“Intelligent lighting is the fastest-growing category in Lutron’s entire luxury business, and the customer demand for tunable light has never been bigger than it is today,” Blair said. “And if it’s not already a part of your business, I really encourage you to look to make it a part of what you are doing.”

According to Blair, the collaboration allows homeowners to extend the same lighting precision and personalization from indoor environments into outdoor spaces. “With Coastal, we are pleased to announce that we’re bringing the precision, elegance, and reliability of Lutron’s Ketra and Rania lighting to the great outdoors,” he added. “This enables the

world’s most innovative light sources to work seamlessly indoors and outdoors under a single system.”

Blair also emphasized the flexibility of digital, wireless control, which allows each fixture to operate as an individual node. This opens opportunities for integrators to offer dynamic seasonal adjustments, holiday lighting, and fully synchronized indoor/outdoor scenes without rewiring.

For integrators, the message is clear: Outdoor living remains one of the most in-demand categories. And with programs like Native by Design, Lutron is positioning itself and its partners at the forefront of this growing market.

Nice Solutions Simplify Life for Partners and Their Customers

BOOTH #3001 Mohamed Ali Vaid, CEO, Nice North America, offers insights on the company’s Expo exhibit and what dealers can expect as a partner.

What are Nice’s priorities and goals at the show this year?

MOHAMED ALI VAID: Our top priority at CEDIA Expo/CIX is strengthening our relationships with partners. While we’re excited to showcase our latest innovations, our focus goes beyond products. We’re here to demonstrate the exceptional service and support that define Nice. This event is an opportunity to listen, engage, and provide the tools and resources that help our dealers grow. Everything we do, from cutting-edge technology to hands-on training, is centered around delivering a better, more empowering partner experience.

What products are at the Nice booth?

MAV: This year, our booth is designed to show how Nice solutions simplify life—for our partners and their customers. A highlight is ELAN OS 9, which brings powerful new features like advanced voice control, enhanced personalization, and streamlined floorplan management. These updates give integrators greater flexibility and more ways to deliver exceptional value.

On the security front, we’re introducing new surveillance cameras and a security panel, both engineered for faster installs and easier support. From control and security to audio and beyond, we’re showcasing smart, time-saving solutions that open new opportunities and help our partners grow their business.

Though it is made up of many legacy brands, Nice has been working to create a brand unity that illustrates how the full ecosystem integrates. How will that be presented?

MAV: We’re highlighting the evolution toward a unified Nice experience—one that brings together the power of our legacy brands under a single, integrated ecosystem. Brands like ELAN, SpeakerCraft, and Panamax will be showcased not as separate entities, but as essential components of the broader Nice platform.

For our partners, this means a more consistent and streamlined experience: one company, one

service model, and one cohesive ecosystem—all designed to simplify their workflows while preserving the performance and reliability they’ve come to trust. It’s integration without compromise, and it’s all centered on making our partners more successful.

What will dealers who are interested in working with Nice learn about the company at its exhibit?

MAV: They’ll see that Nice is a partner-first company— every product, program, and person is focused on helping integrators succeed. From turnkey marketing kits to responsive technical support and innovative, easy-to-integrate solutions, we’re committed to removing friction at every stage of the process.

At last year’s show, Nice made a splash with its Toolless Speakers. What has the industry reaction been since they started shipping?

MAV: The response has been overwhelmingly positive because these speakers were built with the integrator in mind. Dealers consistently tell us that Toolless Speakers dramatically reduce installation time without compromising on the premium sound quality their customers demand. That blend of efficiency and performance perfectly reflects our product philosophy at Nice: Make life easier for our partners while delivering an exceptional experience for the end user.

Somfy Spotlights PoE Innovation

BOOTH 3412 Somfy is spotlighting its Power over Ethernet (PoE) innovation with the return of the Sonesse 30 PoE and the larger Sonesse 40 PoE. These motors receive both power and control signals over a single CAT-5e/CAT-6 Ethernet cable, eliminating the need for dedicated AC wiring. This drastically reduces labor, installation time, and cost, while enabling seamless integration with IP-based smart home systems. The compact Sonesse 30 PoE motor, which headlines Somfy’s first-ever CEDIA Expo/CIX Commissioning Contest, is ideal for modestsized windows, while the larger, more powerful Sonesse 40 PoE-available in 2, 4, or 6Nm torque ratings-delivers exceptional performance and smooth operation for larger window applications with sizes of 13 x 13 feet, all in a compact, UL-listed form factor. Despite being one of the strongest shading motors on the market, Sonesse 40 PoE is remarkably quiet and visually discreet, moving the shading fabric smoothly and fitting inside smaller diameter tubes.

TPI Aerospace Optimizes Audio for dvLED Viewing

BOOTH 4316 One of the biggest challenges home technology professionals face when installing massive direct-view LED (dvLED) displays is determining where to place speakers to achieve both optimal surround sound and a visually seamless installation. Traditional home theater speaker placement—often behind acoustically transparent projection screens—is impossible with dvLED walls, which do not allow sound to pass through. Integrators are left with few good options, often compromising audio quality or aesthetics.

TPI Movement by TPI Aerospace, distributed exclusively by Apex Technologies, solves this problem by delivering sound that seemingly comes directly from the display itself. Using the patented TPI DVC Movement Controller, this category-defining system manipulates timing, gain, and wavefronts to create phantom audio channels perfectly aligned with the on-screen action.

TPI Movement’s LCR loudspeaker modules are available in multiple sizes and in-wall and on-wall configurations, combining reference-quality sound with the sleek aesthetics of large-format video walls.

ProjX360 Upgrades Invoicing Module for AV Integrators

BOOTH C1306 ProjX360 is unveiling a major upgrade to its invoicing module, specifically tailored to meet the needs of AV integration companies using accrualbased accounting methods. Rolling out early fall, this enhancement introduces three new invoice types— Request for Payment, Standard, and Delivery—giving integrators greater flexibility in how and when they bill clients based on project stages and product delivery schedules.

These new invoice types are designed to better align with real-world project cash flow, allowing integrators to streamline their billing processes and improve financial planning. Whether you’re collecting a deposit, billing upon delivery, or invoicing at project completion, ProjX360 adapts to your workflow.

This release also includes critical QuickBooks integration updates, ensuring these new invoice types sync seamlessly with your accounting system, saving time, reducing errors, and keeping financials accurate.

Sony Teases Game-Changing Next Generation Display Technology

Fresh off its BRAVIA 8 II (K65XR80M2) QD-OLED being crowned “King of TV” at this year’s Value Electronics’ TV Shootout — Sony’s seventh consecutive King of TV title — the company is already looking ahead to its next-generation flagship display.

This all-new display panel architecture will feature independent RGB LED backlighting, which isn’t just an evolution of Mini LED technology, but rather a fundamental shift in how TVs deliver light, color, and contrast.

According to Sony’s Technology Manager, JT Austin, the new RGB LED backlighting is the culmination of over two decades’ worth of work and research that began with the implementation of local dimming, dating back to the original Sony Qualia fullarray RGB LED backlit display released 20 years ago. Sony further evolved this technology by implementing its Backlight Master Drive technology in 2016; however, the resulting picture quality improvement from these new displays is so profound, Austin compared it to seeing 4K for the first time.

The new RGB LED backlighting further advances the backlighting control Sony introduced recently in its BRAVIA 9 series, allowing each RGB color to light independently, resulting in high color purity and images with a vibrant, wide color gamut.

While the BRAVIA 9 features 22-bit dimming, the new technology is equipped with Sony’s proprietary advanced backlight control technology, designed to maximize the panel’s advanced characteristics, with a total of 96 bits of processing dedicated to scene-adaptive control. This enables faithful reproduction of delicate hues and subtle gradations of light across every corner of the display, more accurately delivering the content creator’s intent. By individually controlling the brightness of the densely packed RGB LEDs, bright areas and specular highlights won’t be clipped, and will adjust the nuances in dark areas without crushing blacks.

Additionally, with a full array of RGB LEDs instead of the current white or blue LEDs with color filters, the display will deliver dramatic increases in color volume and brightness, covering over 99% of the DCI-P3 color space and approximately 90% of the BT.2020. Austin said this new tech delivers

unprecedented brightness and will be the brightest display Sony has ever released, with the ability to achieve peak brightness levels over 4000 nits, matching the performance of Sony’s BVM reference studio grading monitor. Further, it will be able to reproduce subtle color differences and accurate colors without color shifts.

The new displays will leverage all the advantages of Mini LED in terms of brightness, while also eliminating many of the challenges. Specifically, the new display will dramatically reduce visible blooming, increase contrast, produce better black levels, and greatly improve off-axis viewing. It will also unlock significantly larger screen sizes. Sony wasn’t specific on just how large, but, according to Austin, “It opens the opportunity to expand screen sizes beyond what’s possible with OLED.”

Speaking of OLED, this is not meant as an “OLED killer,” but rather a best-of-bothworlds technology that delivers superior black levels and blooming control than Mini-LED, along with higher brightness and color volume than OLED technology, allowing it to better fill installations where larger and brighter screen sizes are required, and when no-compromise performance is demanded in bright or open concept rooms. Further, its wider

viewing angles make it ideal for large spaces, while still producing reference-level color accuracy that matches the professional reference monitors used by Hollywood studios and colorists.

“The Custom Integration Channel is always at the forefront of performance and innovation,” said Kathleen Thomas, Sony’s Head of Custom Install Channel. “Their customers want the best, and what Sony brings to the table with our unique RGB implementation is a revolution in picture performance. This is the culmination of years of development and technological innovations.”

Driving this next-gen picture will be the latest iteration of Sony’s acclaimed XR processor, optimized for the new RGB LED panel and utilizing AI to cross-analyze hundreds of thousands of picture elements at once to optimize color, clarity, contrast, motion, focal point, and depth.

While the recent “King of TVs” win proves that Sony continues to lead in OLED performance today, the next era of large-screen, high-brightness, coloraccurate TVs is already on the horizon with Sony’s RGB backlight technology.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to experience it on the CEDIA show floor this year. According to Thomas, “We look forward to 2026 being the year of RGB”, with a launch expected in Spring, so you’ll need to stay tuned. However, staff at Sony’s booth are aware of the new displays and are able to discuss them, so feel free to bring your questions as you look at this year’s top technologies!

Lumagen Delivers First ArtisaN Series Model

SR11 Lumagen is delivering the first in its ArtisaN Series, the ArtisaN 8K Ready video processor. According to the company, ArtisaN will be the home cinema category’s first video processor with 8K inputs and outputs. To capitalize on dealer and enthusiast anticipation for the product, the company is enacting a pre-order purchase and trade-in program that runs through September 2025.

The initial ArtisaN 8K Ready version supports up to 4K60 inputs and outputs (upgradeable to 8K

and 4K120 inputs and outputs with optional Software Key), including HDCP 2.3, HDR10, and HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma), and is compatible with Dolby LLDV sources.

Like the top-of-the-line Radiance Pro 5348, the ArtisaN uses circuitry to reduce HDMI output clock jitter. Minimizing signal jitter is an extremely important criteria for HDMI to minimize jitter at the audio processor’s DACs. This in turn reduces distortion and improves audio.

A durable braided sleeve resists fraying and electrostatic discharge while the proprietary metal headshell, featuring Bullet Train’s C-lock design, maximizes contact pressure and prevents deformative mechanical “creep” from impacting the internal conductors for unwavering connectivity.

THEORY AUDIO DESIGN, BOOTH 2933 Theory Audio Design’s SR Series is a new line of eight new multi-purpose passive and powered loudspeakers and manifold subwoofers loudspeakers specifically designed for sound reinforcement applications. Built-to-order in the U.S., the SR Series loudspeakers unite lively dynamics, high maximum output level, and refined acoustic performance. Unlike most professional-style speakers, Theory is raising the bar in sound quality both in the fidelity and sheer output the loudspeakers offer. The new loudspeakers are also surprisingly compact, providing specifiers and integrators with high output and premium audio solutions that don’t impede on aesthetics—plus they can be installed in tighter locations.

Resembling an electrical panel, the AIO is divided into two sections: the top houses 24 industrial-grade 20A bolt-in breakers with advanced surge suppression, while the lower section is designed to accommodate a Torus Power toroidal isolation transformer, which supplies clean, conditioned power to each circuit.

Smart Home Advocacy in Action: CEDIA’s Latest Wins

From influencing federal legislation to preserving the integrity of industry standards, CEDIA’s advocacy efforts are driving meaningful change. Thanks to ongoing member involvement and engagement with policymakers, the “Freedom to Invest in Tomorrow’s Workforce Act” was included in H.R. 1, which has now been signed into law. CEDIA and other industry associations also halted proposed changes that threatened Division 27 in the CSI MasterFormat. Now, CEDIA is calling on industry champions to step up as state captains to strengthen advocacy efforts from coast to coast.

529 SAVINGS NOW ELIGIBLE FOR TRADE EDUCATION

After two years of Congressional advocacy by CEDIA members, the CEDIA-backed “Freedom to Invest in Tomorrow’s Workforce Act” was signed into law as part of the major tax package, H.R. 1. Now, the popular 529 plans, which for decades allowed tax advantages for saving for four-year colleges and universities, have been expanded to include technical credentialing and even CEDIA certifications.

This means that families will have more incentive to prepare young people for high-paying and satisfying technical careers, such as custom integration. Just as importantly, it signals a shift in the national conversation, elevating skilled, hands-on professions to the same level of respect and value as white-collar careers.

CEDIA RETURNS TO THE U.S. CAPITOL

On March 27, CEDIA took to Washington, D.C. for its second annual CEDIA on the Hill Day. Together with the Board of Directors, manufacturer CEOs, and industry leaders from around the world,

CEDIA advocated for key policies impacting the smart home industry while simultaneously emphasizing the important work of technology integrators. Throughout the day, CEDIA representatives participated in a series of bipartisan meetings with members of Congress and their staff to address crucial legislative issues, including:

• A Return of Exclusions on Tariffs

• Advancement of Technology Innovation

• “Freedom to Invest in Tomorrow’s Workforce Act” (H.R. 1151 / S. 756)

CEDIA will be expanding its annual advocacy day to include more CEDIA members in March 2026. To stay up to date on all CEDIA advocacy initiatives, visit www.cedia.org/advocacy

PROPOSED CSI MASTERFORMAT CHANGES TO DIVISION 27 DEFERRED TO NEXT CYCLE

In May, CEDIA and other industry associations were notified of proposed changes to the CSI MasterFormat that threaten the structure and independence of Division 27 (Communications). The proposed changes would have moved core components of the limited-energy systems industry into Division 26 (Electrical), eroding the clarity and specialization of the limited-energy systems industry.

Associations from the industry urged the MasterFormat Task Team to reject the proposal and to maintain Division 27 for Communications. Industry associations also asked that CSI engage with industry stakeholders from the limited-energy systems industry to ensure any future revisions are inclusive, well-informed, and consensus-driven.

The MasterFormat Task Team has deferred all remaining proposals, including Division 26 (Electrical) revisions to the next revision cycle. We expect the next revision cycle to begin in about 18 months.

SERVE AS A CEDIA STATE CAPTAIN

The CEDIA State Captain Program is an important part of the CEDIA Government Affairs Program. CEDIA State Captains help to analyze legislative bills and regulations identified as potentially problematic in their state. State Captains often attend legislative hearings and give testimony on important legislation for CEDIA and the industry. They also help to promote CEDIA member involvement throughout the legislative process.

DaisyCare: A New Approach to Service

BOOTH 1738 DaisyCare, Daisy’s new approach to service, provides proactive maintenance and ongoing support to help integration firms offer whiteglove care, improving client satisfaction and adding immense value to their businesses. This approach reduces downtime and drives recurring revenue.

The program includes four scheduled visits per year. During each visit, trained tech advisors not only inspect, test, and document system performance, they also reassess the homeowner’s technology needs and share relevant solutions and pricing that the

customer might not have discovered on her own. This preventative, curated model minimizes emergency calls, addresses issues before they escalate, and ensures clients enjoy optimal system performance year-round.

Integrators benefit from a structured, scalable support framework that strengthens client relationships and creates predictable income. Monthly system performance reports keep homeowners engaged and informed, reinforcing the value of professional maintenance.

SpecOp Secure Unveils NaaS for Custom Integrators

BOOTH 2747 SpecOp Secure is unveiling its Network as a Service (NaaS) for custom integrators at CEDIA Expo/CIX 2025. The offering, which bundles Cisco Meraki hardware, 24/7 proactive monitoring, and unlimited support into a single monthly fee, is the first of its kind in the CI channel, according to the company.

Network as a Service enables integrators to sidestep large upfront equipment costs and unpredictable service calls. Instead of choos-

ing between overshooting a homeowner’s budget or installing a network that can’t keep pace with smarthome systems, integrators gain access to enterprise-grade performance with predictable monthly revenue.

SpecOp Secure also is highlighting its Project Easy Estimator tool, which generates accurate NaaS proposals in under five minutes. The proprietary software is a contender for the 2025 CE Pro Best Product Award.

Where Need Meets Opportunity: The Rise of Resimercial

As residential integrators gather at CEDIA Expo/ CIX, many attendees are looking to grow their businesses by expanding into commercial projects. They aren’t alone: Industry experts agree the convergence between residential and commercial integration is experiencing substantial growth.

Sony has seen a big increase in display products, including panels and projectors, overlapping between markets. In fact, Thomas says the company’s CLED commercial video wall has found a spot in the residential market.

Jason McGraw, group VP and show director of CEDIA Expo/ CIX, says there is strong data behind the trend. “Both CEDIA and show organizers survey attendees annually, and we’ve consistently seen an increase in the number of commercial projects being installed by traditionally residential-focused integrators,” he explained. “This reflects a broader market shift where the lines between residential and commercial spaces, and the technologies used in them, are continuing to blur. Resimercial is not only growing, it’s accelerating.”

Kathleen Thomas, head of custom install for Sony Electronics North America, says the convergence of residential and commercial is a “natural progression” in the maturation of the custom integration business. “It is definitely a growing channel for Sony,” she adds. “About 30% of our residential dealers purchased a commercial product from Sony last year, whereas a few years ago it was a very rare occurrence.”

ADI | Snap One’s VP of product management, Matt Kamp, says a number of the company’s product categories are becoming increasingly relevant for both residential and commercial applications. “We’ve seen strong overlap in the audio product area, where residential and light commercial work has significant overlap,” he notes. “Additionally, highquality outdoor products—designed for homeowners looking for durable televisions, audio, and networking—translate well to light commercial work.”

ing to Brad Hintze, the company’s EVP of global marketing. “We see light commercial spaces leveraging technology to deliver a compelling experience,” he explains. “These projects need pros who know how to deliver that experience while maintaining that it is super easy to use. That’s precisely what CEDIA integrators have been doing with Crestron. Given the growth opportunity and the experience within luxury homes, these spaces are a natural fit.”

McGraw says the convergence trend was significantly amplified during the pandemic. Since then, several factors continue to influence the resimercial trend.

“Part of it is organic development, as a lot of their residential customers are business owners and the customer wants to do business with someone they trust,” Thomas offers. “Some integrators have pursued the business to help diversify their customer base to ride out challenging periods in the housing industry.”

Heckel agrees trust is a major driver of the resimercial trend. “When a client has already seen how well their integrator delivers in the home, it’s a natural leap to have that same team handle the business environment,” he says. “We often hear about integrators gaining substantial commercial business from existing residential customers who also own or manage businesses in need of technology integration.”

As residential installers are beginning to do light commercial work, Kamp says education is a key factor. “At ADI | Snap One, we not only provide products that can translate from residential environments to light commercial environments, but also the training and support for installers to best know how to adjust the products for commercial environments,” he says. “This support allows installers to capitalize on new streams of income and revenue opportunities.”

Luke Heckel, Sonos commercial sales lead, says his company is seeing a “significant and growing” overlap, particularly within its existing customer base. In fact, much of the company’s commercial growth was organic, as residential clients started installing Sonos products in their offices, gyms, and restaurants.

“That familiarity makes the transition almost effortless for integrators, because they’re not introducing a completely foreign platform; they’re extending something the client already knows, trusts, and loves into a new environment,” he explains.

Crestron has also seen growth in the crossover between residential and commercial spaces, accord-

Of course, manufacturers are challenged to balance the aesthetic needs of the residential space with the performance requirements of the commercial space. Kamp argues that strong automated control systems are central to finding that balance.

So, is the resimercial trend a good thing? “Absolutely,” Heckel declares. “For integrators, diversification isn’t just smart, it’s essential. Resimercial work offers a natural, low-barrier way to expand service offerings without having to retool an entire business model.”

The number of commercial projects installed by residential integrators continues to grow.
