FOUNDATIONAL UNDERSTANDING OF OUR EDUCATION

The final command Jesus gave to his followers was to “Go and make disciples of all nations.”

Not converts, not perfect people, not brainiacs, but humans made in the image of God who are committed to learning the way of Jesus and then making the choice to live it out in a world hostile to that way of life.

The church’s mission remains the same today.

Asbury Classical School is not merely a school attached to a church, but a discipleship and training program for the growth of children and nourishment of families, and vital to the work of the church.

● Families bear the primary responsibility of training their children. Christ’s church is the primary communal body and resource through which families grow in Christ. Partnership with families and parent involvement is essential. We ask that parents partner with us in the discipleship of their children—discipling so as to train in holiness.

● Our curriculum includes theological training and liturgical spiritual disciplines rooted in the orthodox teachings of the Christian faith. (See our statement of faith)

● We are cautious of secular cultural trends that carry the potential for the formation of idols and strongholds which draw our hearts away from the things of God. As teachers of the way of Jesus we are unapologetic about “counter-formation.” We will talk about secular cultural trends and directly deal with them from an expressly biblical perspective.

● Children must be outdoors and engage in creative and risky play. Safety is important but not primary in play-based childhoods. Children develop creativity, resiliency and become sturdy when they are free to play, build, get dirty, and sometimes get scrapes and bruises. Students at ACS may get dirty during play.

● Academics must be rigorous, but not merely for the purposes of achieving good test scores so we can get good jobs. A well-developed intellect that works in concert with a heart for the things of God brings us closer to Imago Dei and is honoring the design in which God made us. Fully formed adults must be able to think critically, reason, and discern God’s will to then live wisely in an increasingly lost and confusing world. Our homework, and our classroom will aim towards this.

THE MISSION

Asbury Classical School is intentionally positioned within Christ’s church for the purpose of challenging our students intellectually while training their habits, loves, and desires toward a life lived “in Christ” for the sake of the world.

OUR APPROACH

Academic rigor. We use a classical Christian liberal arts approach because modern American children do not suffer from being given too much but from being given too little of real substance. Our kids are made for more, and it honors God to challenge ourselves intellectually—not for the sake of achievement to please ourselves or others, but to experience the life-giving fullness of how God made us.

Foundational habits. What we ultimately love and desire is determined more by what we do over and over again than what we think. Sound spiritual, social, and academic habits are keystone behaviors that change our thinking and lead to a life of resilience and growth in Christ.

Physical activity and play. Children grow stronger, more confident, and exercise more independence as adults when they experience freedom, creativity, and risk during play and physical fitness activities.

A WORD ON DIFFICULTY AND CHALLENGE

Since the foundation of the world, God has not only allowed humanity to face resistance, but He uses it to strengthen us for His glory and our good. In fact, it can’t happen any other way. Strong relationships are often built on shared hardships. Strong bodies are built on resistance training and adversity Strong spirits are built through patient self-denial and spiritual discipline. Strong minds and imaginations are built on the slow, difficult work of discovery and contemplation. Wisdom is forged through experiencing all of these things over time. It doesn’t come quickly, cheaply, or easily Our desire is that Asbury Classical School, as a discipleship ministry of Asbury Church, can create environments of “controlled difficulty” for the sole purpose of building up our students and their families into confident, resilient, wise, faithful followers of Jesus for the sake of the world.

OUR PROGRAM

Definition of Classical Education

Classical education is an approach that equips students with the tools of learning, emphasizing the development of critical thinking and reasoning rather than simply filling them with information. It aims to educate men and women holistically, focusing on

timeless truths that have shaped human thought and culture. This method moves from concrete to abstract learning, progressively building knowledge, understanding, and wisdom.

Philosophy of the Trivium

The Trivium, within the Christian Liberal Arts Tradition, represents a journey of learning rooted in joy, gratitude, and the pursuit of God’s truth, goodness, and beauty. It is structured around three foundational elements: Grammar as Knowledge, Logic as Understanding, and Rhetoric as the Synthesis of Ideas Culminating in Wisdom.

Grammar as Knowledge

Grammar represents the acquisition of foundational knowledge. It is about joyfully receiving and memorizing the basic facts and truths of language, mathematics, science, and Scripture. This element lays the groundwork for all future learning by instilling a love for God’s creation and a sense of wonder at His order, recognizing every day as a gift to be filled with gratitude and delight (Philippians 4:11–12; 1 Thessalonians 5:18).

Logic as Understanding

Logic represents the development of understanding. It encourages students to think critically, analyze information, and discern the relationships between different ideas. This element aligns with the call to grow in maturity and wisdom, to “rightly handle the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15), and to cultivate a heart of humility and attentiveness in seeking God's wisdom (Proverbs 1:5; James 1:19).

Rhetoric as Synthesis and Wisdom

Rhetoric involves synthesizing knowledge and understanding to express ideas with clarity, grace, and wisdom. It is about learning to communicate truth effectively, glorifying God through articulate and virtuous speech and action. This element reflects the mission of engaging the world as disciples of Jesus, integrating what has been learned into a coherent and purposeful life that seeks to “live on Earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10).

Philosophy of the Quadrivium

The Quadrivium, within the Christian Liberal Arts Tradition, is an exploration of God's ordered creation through the study of arithmetic, geometry, music, and the cosmos. It cultivates joy in learning by revealing the beauty and precision of God’s design in all things, guiding students to see His divine order.

The Quadrivium develops the skill of numbers in various expressions:

● Arithmetic teaches the constancy and truth of numbers, reflecting God's unchanging nature.We will encourage hands-on activities like measurement, data collection, and calculations, allowing students to appreciate the precision and reliability of God's creation.

● Geometry explores numbers in space, demonstrating God's order in the physical world. Through practical activities like building, mapping, and studying shapes in nature, we will experience how geometry manifests in everyday life, reinforcing the belief in creation's inherent order.

● Music expresses numbers in time, showcasing God’s order through rhythm, harmony, and melody. Engaging in activities such as musical composition, playing instruments, and rhythm exercises, students will learn to experience the emotional and spiritual beauty of God's creation, celebrating His goodness through this form of worship.

● Cosmos reveals numbers in motion, inviting students to observe God's creation and marvel at the intricacy and vastness of His work. Through activities like observing nature, working in nature, and contemplating the order of creation, students develop a deeper sense of wonder about God's magnificent design.

The Quadrivium helps students see God’s design in all things and grow in wisdom. By integrating these studies into practical activities, students are prepared to honor God’s creation, live with purpose, and contribute to the flourishing of the world as disciples of Christ.

Philosophy of Education

Our academic philosophy is rooted in a biblical worldview and delivered through a classical education that challenges the individual student in both academics and character We foster a love for learning in response to God's creation, as students engage in both indoor and outdoor activities. We believe that disciplined inquiry, curiosity, and wonder are essential for growing in wisdom, as "the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom" (Proverbs 9:10). Through academic diligence, spiritual discipline, physical endurance, and joyful submission, we guide students to develop resilience, unshakeable faith, perseverance, and respect for authority

CULTURAL ISSUES

On Gender, Marriage, and Sexuality

Asbury Classical School is committed to the infallibility of the Christian Scriptures in all matters of faith and life. Our aim is to be aligned with the truth of the Bible even when

that means being out of alignment with what is considered popular or culturally-acceptable. Moreover, especially as it pertains to the statements below, Asbury Classical School stands in continuity with what the Church has taught, believed, and confessed for over 2000 years. In these matters, we seek to be both clear and compassionate.

We believe that every person—regardless of sinful beliefs or actions—must be shown love, kindness, respect, and dignity (Mark 12:28–31; Luke 6:31). We repudiate hateful and harassing words or behavior about or toward anyone as out of accord with the teachings of the Bible, the character of our Lord, and the mission of Asbury Classical School. We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, sexual or otherwise, seeking his mercy and forgiveness through faith in Jesus Christ (Acts 3:19–21; Rom. 10:9–10; 1 Cor. 6:9–11).

We believe that in order to preserve Asbury Classical School’s integrity and effectiveness, as a biblically faithful institution of Christian education and as a model to our community, it is imperative that all persons employed by Asbury Classical School in any capacity, or who serve as volunteers, affirm and abide by this statement (Matt. 5:16; Phil. 2:14–16; 1 Thess. 5:22). We also expect students to uphold these biblical values regarding sex, gender, and sexual activity in their speech, dress, and conduct.

On Gender

We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as either male or female, both in biological sex and in gender. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image of God (Gen. 1:26–27). To reject one's biological gender is an act of rebellion against God's design.*

On Marriage

We believe that according to the Bible, marriage has only one appropriate meaning: a one flesh union of one man and one woman in a holy relationship intended to be exclusive and lifelong (Gen. 2:18–25). We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between men and women joined in marriage (1 Cor. 6:18, 7:2–5; Heb. 13:4).

On Sexuality

We believe that participating in or approving of any form of sexual activity forbidden in the Bible (including unmarried sex, adultery, homosexual or bisexual behavior, and pornography) is sinful and offensive to God (Matt. 15:18–20; Rom. 1:24–32; 1 Cor 6:9–10).

*Asbury Classical School understands that due to sin, we are confronted with genetic brokenness which could include real gender dysphoria and the rare case of a child born intersex. Both situations, however, do not constitute a de-emphasis on the biblical pattern of male/female complementarity

On Sanctity of Human Life

We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in his image. Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life. (Ps. 139). We believe this is the starting point for all discussions related to the sanctity of life (e.g., abortion, euthanasia, war).

STATEMENT OF FAITH

We are guided by the words of John Wesley:

“Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.”

Trinity: We are called to worship God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Bible: We are a Biblical church, acknowledging the Bible as the primary foundation and final authority of our faith and actions.

Creeds: We affirm the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed as faithful declarations of Biblical truth.

Salvation: We believe in the necessity of faith in Jesus Christ as the crucified and risen Savior and Lord of all.

Forgiveness: We believe that God offers grace and unconditional love to all, providing forgiveness of sins through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

Holy Spirit: We affirm the active work of the Holy Spirit, who cleanses and heals the life of the believer, gifts us for ministry, empowers us in prayer, and leads us in understanding the Word of God.

Active Faith: We believe every Christian is called into an intimate relationship with God, faithful relationships with other Christians, and Christ-like service in the world.

Marriage: We believe marriage is biblically defined by a lifelong, sexually exclusive union between one man and one woman that is ordained by God and entered into as a covenant.

DISCIPLINE POLICY

The final command Jesus gave his followers was to “Go and make disciples of all nations,” which is the heart of our disciplinary policy at Asbury Classical School.

Presuppositions to our discipline policy:

● Families bear the primary responsibility of training their children. Christ’s church is the primary communal body and resource through which families grow in Christ. Partnership with families and parent involvement is essential. We ask that parents partner with us in the discipleship of their children—discipling so as to train in holiness.

● We are called to love God and love our neighbor, any behavior that does not do this is sin.

● We believe that a public sin should be apologized for publicly and a private sin privately

● We recognize that maintaining a well-disciplined classroom is key to learning.

● We believe that “knowledge without virtue is dangerous.” Therefore, encouraging virtuous behavior that stems from the heart is as important as encouraging excellence in math and grammar

● A young student’s behavior, attitude, and physical disposition should contribute positively to the classroom environment and we value shaping godly character

● Our uniform policy is meant to clearly distinguish male and female.

Our rule is simple for maintaining this disciplined atmosphere: “love your neighbor as yourself.”

We use a structured discipline plan for the classroom while varying the consequences based on the frame of the child. Although the method of helping them reach the standard of “loving God and loving our neighbor” may be different, the standard remains.

Electronic Device Policy

Parents are required to sign our Technology Agreement Use of personal electronic

devices (i.e., phones, smart phones, computers, portable gaming devices, smart watches, etc.) by students is prohibited on campus. Any use of electronic devices must be for academic purposes and approved by the Head of School.

● Use of laptops is permissible for secondary academic purposes only under the pre-approved direction and supervision of a teacher.

● A first violation of this policy will result in immediate confiscation of the device, to be released to a parent or guardian.

● A second violation of this policy will result in a parent conference with the Head of School.

● A third violation of this policy will result in a disciplinary hearing.

● ACS accepts no responsibility for use, breakage, theft, or loss of electronic devices or other personal items.

Internet Use and Social Media

Students are held to the same standard of behavior whether they are on campus or online at home. Individuals agree to use these technological tools honorably and responsibly

The following is not permitted:

● Sending or displaying offensive messages or intimate pictures

● Using obscene, vulgar, or profane language

● Harassing, tormenting, threatening, embarrassing, humiliating, insulting, or attacking others

● Texting or social media interaction with teachers

ClassReach communication is permitted for students, parents, and teachers.

Cheating And Plagiarism

Cheating is defined as looking at another student’s work or communicating with another student during an exam without the teacher’s permission. Plagiarism is defined as using another person’s work without proper acknowledgment.

If a student is found to have cheated or plagiarized, the assignment or exam will receive a zero, and parents will be notified. A second infraction will result in a review by the Education Council.

Primary Student Discipline Plan

The rule is love God and love your neighbor

1. If a student is overtly disrespectful to authority an immediate office visit will follow.

2. If there is unloving behavior in the classroom, during breaks or lunchtime the teacher who observed the situation will give a warning and correct the behavior.

3. If a second infraction occurs the infraction will be documented.

4. If an infraction occurs during a break the student’s lead teacher will be notified and documented accordingly

5. If a third infraction occurs the teacher will send the child to the Head of School for an office visit with information specifying the issue.

a. The Head of School will notify the parents through email of what occurred and the discipline given.

6. Homework

a. Any missing homework will be entered as a “0” in ClassReach. After the third “0” or third poor grade, the parents will be notified. The late assignment policy is 10% grade reduction the first day, 20% reduction the second day, and 1 percentage point for any day thereafter. A standing “0” will mean the assignment was never submitted.

Secondary Student Discipline Plan

The rule is love God and love your neighbor.

1. If a student is overtly disrespectful there will be an immediate office visit.

2. If a student is speaking inappropriately there will be an immediate office visit.

3. If a student has not completed homework the teacher will notify the parents and the Head of School.

4. Homework

a. A missed assignment will be entered as a “0” until submitted, and the late percentages will apply: 10% for not being submitted, 20% for the 2nd day and “1” thereafter. A standing “0” will mean the student never submitted the work.

Office Visit Protocol

1. The Head of School may discipline in one of several ways depending on the student and the violation:

a. Cleaning

i. Picking up trash

ii. Cleaning bathrooms

iii. Vacuuming and or sweeping

iv. Cleaning desks, walls, white boards, etc.

v Cleaning outside

b. Writing

i. A note on what the student did wrong

ii. A note asking forgiveness

c. Other

i. Loss of privilege(s)

ii. Repetition and practice of proper or expected behaviors

iii. Being sent home

iv. A consequence or discipline plan particularly suited to the student and situation as agreed upon with the parent(s)

2. If an office visit occurs the Head of School to the parents.

Excessive Office Visits

As noted above, the purpose of the discipline policy is to shape godly character in the student. If the Head of School determines that a student’s character is not improving over time, or is deteriorating in a way that negatively impacts school culture, the Head of School will meet with the parents to develop a plan to address the issue. The Head of School will also meet with parents if the student exhibits a lack of repentance or shows disinterest in attending Asbury Classical School. Additional meetings may be scheduled at the Head of School’s discretion if previous discipline plans have not been successful. To assist parents in understanding their child’s behavior, they may be required to observe the student for part or all of the school day. If the student’s behavioral issues

cannot be corrected through these plans and interventions, the situation will be classified as a “Serious Discipline Case.”

Serious Discipline Cases

A Serious Discipline Case occurs when a student exhibits extreme ungodly behavior that impedes the culture of the school. Examples include (but are not limited to):

1. Excessive Office Visits (see section of the same name above)

2. Unrepentant, consistent, or serious disrespect of authority

3. Unsafe behavior—endangerment to themselves or others

4. Overt moral issues including (but not limited to):

a. Inappropriate touching

b. Substance abuse

c. Illegal activity

If the Head of School has determined that the student’s words or behavior constitute a Serious Discipline Case, the student will be subject to a discipline hearing before a select committee. The discipline hearing will include the student, the parent(s), the teacher (if applicable), the Head of School, and school board members. At this point the school board will determine the necessary course of action which may include suspension or expulsion of the student. Tuition will not be reimbursed for suspensions or expulsions.

PARENT COMMUNICATION AND INVOLVEMENT

A student’s success at Asbury Classical School is founded on open and constructive communication between families and the school. Such communication requires consistent effort, mutual trust, and respect from both parties. Should a concern arise, families are encouraged to pause and prayerfully consider the matter for a day before addressing it with the appropriate teacher or staff member. When conflict occurs, both parties are expected to move toward one another in a spirit of love and reconciliation. This principle applies to all communication—verbal or electronic—between parents and teachers, among students, or between parents.

The school communicates with parents in ways that honor their time and avoid unnecessary emails. Teachers send a weekly class email and, in younger grades, send student work home each weekend for parent review Additional contact with a specific parent may occur as needed. Parent-teacher partnership meetings are scheduled in both the fall and spring semesters, and both parents are strongly encouraged to attend. All-school communications are posted in the Announcements section of ClassReach and delivered to parents’ email via the ClassReach Messages portal. Parents are expected to read all school emails. In rare cases, the school may send text messages for weather-related closures or other emergencies. All email communication to and from teachers should occur via the ClassReach Messages portal.

Teachers may be contacted through ClassReach outside of regular working hours. When addressing concerns, parents should copy the Head of School to keep the administration informed. Teachers will do the same when addressing concerns with parents.

For curriculum content, school policy, or philosophical questions, contact the Head of School. For classroom-specific questions (e.g., homework load), contact the child’s teacher first, and if necessary, the Lead Teacher via ClassReach. At no time should an individual student’s issue be shared with parties not involved. In the vast majority of cases, if parents work patiently and in good faith with teachers and directors, a satisfactory resolution will be reached.

Families are encouraged to follow Matthew 18:15 in determining the proper order of communication:

“If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother.”

Partnership Philosophy

Parents agree to partner with Asbury Classical in the following ways:

1. Cultivate a Home of Faith: Parents have the biblical responsibility of passing the Christian faith down to their children. We do this by reading the Bible daily and growing in love for it, praying daily as a family and individually, and connecting with other Christians in the context of a church.

2. Keep Technology in its Proper Place: Parents should guide children to use technology as a tool rather than a distraction, setting boundaries that prioritize family time, learning, and real-world engagement over screens.

3. Embrace Holistic Health: Encourage physical health without idolizing sports. Understand the importance of whole-person learning, prioritizing spiritual and intellectual growth alongside physical activity, ensuring that no worldly pursuit eclipses our dedication to church and faith.

4. Implement Classical Habits: Parents should foster a home environment where reading, conversation, manners, orderliness, discipline, and obedience are practiced consistently, shaping children’s character and love of learning.

In these commitments, we aim to forge a path where our children grow in wisdom, love, and righteousness, equipped with the virtues needed to navigate a world of both wonders and pitfalls.

Parent Honor Code

I am enrolling my child at Asbury Classical School because I value an education that develops both character and academics. I understand that my child will be educated from a Christian worldview, and that loving God and loving neighbor are primary tenets of Asbury Classical School. I also recognize that the responsibility for Christian discipline ultimately rests with parents (Eph. 6:4; Deut. 6:7–9). I acknowledge the importance of participation in a local church and the cultivation of a spiritual environment at home in raising my child in the Lord. I understand the importance of harmony between school and home and agree not to act in ways that contradict the mission of the school.

Part of loving God and neighbor includes being on time, present, and respectful. I recognize that Asbury Classical School has thoughtfully designed its calendar to allow for meaningful family time during summers, holidays, and breaks. I understand that school attendance is a way of honoring teachers and classmates, and I will ensure that my child is present and punctual except in emergencies. For planned absences or important family events, I will communicate with teachers in advance and work out a plan for missed class time without imposing an excessive burden. I also understand that poor attendance may cause my child to fall behind.

I understand that the Uniform Policy reflects love for others by fostering a unified, professional, modest, and values-driven school culture. I will ensure that my child complies with the uniform policy to support this culture.

I understand that my child is expected to submit to the authority of Asbury Classical School faculty and staff during school events. I also recognize that I remain ultimately responsible for my child’s behavior and will cooperate with the school’s directives as outlined in this handbook.

If a discipline notice is issued by a teacher or the Head of School, I understand that it is my responsibility to work with my child to address the behavior, guiding them toward repentance and encouraging them to seek forgiveness. If infractions continue, I understand that I must respond consistently and seriously with my child. I also understand that continued misbehavior will be addressed according to the school’s discipline policy, which may require a meeting with the Head of School to develop a corrective plan.

If my child remains unresponsive to correction, I understand that they may be subject to a disciplinary hearing as outlined in the handbook. I agree to abide by the school’s decision in cases of excessive office visits or behavior that disrupts school culture. I understand that if suspension or expulsion is decided, tuition will not be reimbursed.

I recognize that Asbury Classical School teachers seek to educate the whole person and will consider the student’s well-being in all decisions. Efforts will be made to ensure that disciplinary measures do not impede academic grading in a way that affects my child’s future opportunities.

I agree to follow the principles of Matthew 18 when concerns or grievances arise, seeking resolution in a spirit of love and reconciliation.

HEALTH & WELLNESS

Lunch

Students must bring a packed lunch daily to be eaten in the classroom or outside if the weather permits. Please pack items that do not require heating or refrigeration. Parents should inform the school of any severe allergies so that reasonable accommodations can be made. At Asbury Classical School, we value health and wellness, so please encourage nutritious choices, such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and protein-rich foods, when packing lunches and snacks. Students will also be learning about nutrition, balanced diets, and healthy eating habits, and packed food should support these lessons.

Health Records

The State of Oklahoma requires that families submit immunization records or provide an exemption for enrollment into a school.

Asbury Classical School should be notified of any severe allergies or health concerns.

Administration of Medicines

Asbury Classical School will not administer over-the-counter medications to students, with the exception of cough drops (with parent consent) and basic first-aid ointments for minor scrapes and cuts. Parents of students who may require rescue medications for allergies, such as an epi-pen or inhaler, must note the need in ClassReach and provide a doctor-approved action plan.

For students requiring an epi-pen, parents should provide two pens, which will travel with the class in the first-aid kit. Inhalers should include a spacer to ensure proper administration.

Asbury Classical School reserves the right to decline responsibility for prescription administration for any reason. In such cases, parents will visit the school to administer medications to their child during the school day

Illness Policy

To protect the health and wellness of all students and staff, children should be symptom-free for at least 24 hours before returning to on-site classes. Students should remain home if they are experiencing any of the following:

● Fever: Temperature of 101°F or higher The student may return only when their temperature has been below 101°F for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications.

● Respiratory symptoms: Excessive coughing, persistent sore throat, or runny nose.

● Gastrointestinal symptoms: Vomiting or diarrhea.

Students should not attend school with highly contagious illnesses, including, but not limited to, strep throat, hand-foot-and-mouth disease, or pinkeye.

This policy helps protect your child and their classmates and teachers by minimizing the spread of illness in the school community

GOVERNMENT AGENCY REQUESTS

Asbury Classical School values its partnership with parents and will notify parents of any interaction involving a government agency, such as Child Protective Services, as it relates to their child.

Our policy is as follows:

● Parents will be notified and their presence requested before a government agency interviews a student during school hours.

● Asbury Classical School will make every reasonable effort to uphold this policy; however, the school cannot be held liable if a parent cannot be reached in time or if the government agency uses legal authority to require the interview.

ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL

School doors open at 9:15 AM, with a 15-minute arrival window. Students are expected to be in their classrooms and ready to learn by 9:30 AM. If a student arrives after the doors are locked, a staff member will escort them to their classroom.

Pick-up runs from 2:30 PM to 2:45 PM. We recognize that many families also have children at Asbury Preschool, so a brief buffer is provided for parents to pick up younger children first before collecting older students. Students will never be left unattended. Parents who do not pick up their child by 2:45 PM will be assessed a $25 late pick-up fee.

ATTENDANCE

Asbury Classical School has intentionally structured its calendar, schedule, and daily routines to prioritize family time. By enrolling a child, parents or guardians agree to follow this schedule. We ask that family vacations and other travel be planned during scheduled school holidays. Excessive absences disrupt the learning environment and place additional strain on both students and teachers.

ABSENCES

Parents should complete the Absence/Tardy form in ClassReach whenever a student is expected to miss any part of the school day. We understand that emergencies or important family events may arise; therefore, students are allowed up to 8 academic days of absence per semester unless prior approval is arranged with the Head of School. Please notify the school as soon as possible for any absences.

Students who exceed 16 days per year, or 8 days per semester, may be subject to an Education Council review, which could result in additional measures such as paid tutoring. Absences beyond the 8-day limit require approval from the Head of School.

Parents are responsible for ensuring their child covers the material missed during absences. For planned absences, teachers may provide reading and math assignments in advance; other work will need to be collected after the student returns. Students are expected to make up work at the rate of one day per day of absence.

Tardies

Parents should complete the Absence/Tardy form in ClassReach whenever a student is expected to miss any part of the school day

School staff are the only individuals permitted in secure areas during the school day. Students who arrive after 9:30 AM are considered tardy and will be escorted to class by a staff member.

● Four unexcused tardies within a month will result in a parent email.

● A fifth tardy will require an office visit.

● Subsequent unexcused tardies will be addressed as office visits in accordance with the school’s discipline policy

Appointments

Given our shorter school day, we ask that parents schedule appointments for their child before or after school whenever possible. This helps minimize interruptions to learning. If an appointment during the school day is unavoidable, please notify and coordinate with your child’s teacher in advance and sign your child in and out at the front office.

ENROLLMENT POLICY

Students are fully enrolled when two conditions are met

1. All forms have been reviewed, completed and acknowledgments signed and 2. The non-fundable enrollment/curriculum fee has been paid.

a. Penalty for withdrawing prior to the start of school and after the enrollment commitment:*

b. The $500 curriculum/enrollment fee is non-refundable

c. If a family withdraws prior to August 1, any tuition paid will be refunded to them but not the enrollment fee.

3. After August 1, monthly tuition payments paid to date will not be returned. If a family paid in full or half-payment, a pro-rated portion of tuition will be refunded similar to a monthly payer.

*An Emergency situation will be considered through the submission of an appeal, during the withdrawal process, and reviewed by a designated council for a decision.

Tuition Assistance

Families seeking financial assistance are encouraged to contact the school office. Applications are processed through BeneFAQ and require a full financial review. Financial aid decisions are based on demonstrated need and availability of funds.

SAFETY

Asbury maintains on-site security officers during the school day and an emergency alert team connected through the Relay communication system. All teachers and staff are CPR certified.

Parents who wish to chaperone, drive, supervise, or volunteer in classrooms while students are present must complete a background check. Background checks are not required to attend school functions, events, or class parties.

Asbury’s security team works in close cooperation with the Tulsa Police and Tulsa Fire Departments to minimize safety risks on campus. The school conducts safety drills once per semester for emergencies such as fire, tornado, and intruder situations. Exit routes and storm shelter maps are posted in each classroom.

Teachers carry a basic first-aid kit that travels with the class, along with any necessary emergency prescription medications for students. Classrooms are equipped with phones, and teachers also carry cell phones for emergencies. All teachers have access to a panic button through the Guard911 app, which immediately alerts the Asbury response team and local law enforcement.

All ACS personnel complete a nationwide background check with fingerprinting and MinistrySafe sexual abuse awareness training. All interactions between staff and students must occur in environments that are observable and interruptible. Classroom

doors remain open, or rooms must have unobstructed window visibility from the hallway and allow for easy access by other staff whenever students are present.

SCHOOL CLOSINGS

Asbury Classical School makes independent decisions regarding school closings due to hazardous weather and does not necessarily follow local public schools, as their circumstances—such as bus service—may differ. Announcements of closings will be sent via our text messaging system. Parents retain the final responsibility for determining whether it is safe for their child to attend school.
