SCHOOL RATING CRITERIA CARTER HIGH SCHOOL David W. Carter High School is located in Oak Cliff. It is an amazing school with an outstanding history. However, in the past the school ratings according to TEA have been below expectations. Again, the school ratings are provided by TEA. The rating provides an overall review of the school’s performance.
TEA DESIGNATION “A” RATED CAMPUS We did it!
The Texas Education Agency assigns A-F accountability ratings based on three primary domains. Those domains are student achievement, school progress, and closing gaps which includes the academic achievement gaps. Student achievements measuers STAAR test performance across appoaches, meets, and masters. plus graduation rates and college, career, and military readiness indicators. School progress tracks academic growth year to year and evaluates performance relative to campuses with similar student demographics and economic challenges. Finally, closing the gaps assesses how successfully a school minimizes academic performance gaps among distinct student race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic groups. After an amazing year of hard work, David W. Carter High School earns an “A” rating from TEA.

LET’S CELEBRATE CARTER HIGH SCHOOL In three years D.W.C. went from a “C” rated campus to an “A” rated campus. As a student body we want to thank you the students, our parents, our teachers, our administators, the community, and everyone that believed in us. Thank you for encouraging us to be the best that we can be in and out of the classroom
Our Principal, Mr. Jones provided an opportunity for us to celebrate this achievement. On August 21, 2026 during 8th period we had our very first pep rally. We celebrated the teachers, staff, and students that contributed to the success of our campus. Mr. Rousell, the band, and all the participants did an outstanding job with recongnizing the achivements of our high school this past year. What I enjoyed most was the teacher and student dance off. It was amazing seeing some of the teachers do the “ Bend”. This is just the beginning of what’s to come. We are not finished but just getting started. Expect more great things from David W. Carter High School and remember the legacy continues.

IMPORTANCE OF SECURITY MEASURES AT CARTER Administrators at Carter High are strictly enforcing these new protocols to ensure the campus remains phone-free and orderly. For instance, Ms. G enforces the rules at the door by checking for IDs and requiring students without them to purchase a temporary one-day ID for $2. Furthermore, security is being maintained by requiring students to keep their phone pouches visible.
What is the real importance of security measures in a high school? Why should there be measures so significant, like metal detectors and phone pouches, in a school? Will these measures become more common as time passes? These are all questions that the community at David W. STATE CHAMPIONS Although being one of the best high school basketball teams in Texas every year, there was always one achievement never accomplished, the state championship. Making it to playoffs and winning the district championship was never a problem for the school, and finally the extra step was taken in 2026 winning the UIL Class 4A Division II Championship game at the Alamodome in San Antonio against La Marque high school.

CARTER’S FIRST EVER BASKETBALL STATE TITLE The David W. Carter High School Boys Basketball team is one built on resilience, physicality, and pride. Known for playing with a fast tempo and physical brand of basketball, the Cowboys competed in deep playoff runs with Texas's highly competitive 4A and 5A basketball teams just about each year. Reaching the UIL State Tournament at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Carter brought an intense defensive game plan to the floor. By defending their opponent's perimeter shooting and controlling the defensive glass, the Cowboys secured the State Championship trophy, bringing the title back to Oak Cliff. After winning the state title in San Antonio and bringing it back to Oak Cliff, Carter celebrated and was celebrated everywhere.

ASSISTANT COACH INTERVIEW INTERVIEWS WITH COACH LOVE In an interview with the head coach Lyndon Love he states that there was a sense of relief after winning. He says the relief comes from long years of hard work paying off in the end from when he first began coaching starting at SOC to Spruce to Hutch and to end up winning at Carter.
After a conversation with the assistant coach Brandon Lewis he says that he enjoyed the journey more than actually winning. He says that unlike most teams they understand what happens when you begin to feel complacent, He puts everything on the players because the team is “player lead”, the players know the expectation and don’t want anyone to invade and mess it up. We are excited to play the game of basketball and have the opporunity to win back to back State Championships. When you see one of the members of the team be sure to provide them with encouragement. The Carter’s Cowboy spirit goes a very long way. This story is just beginning.

WHY CARTER? NEW TO DAVID W. CARTER Each year, David W. Carter High School gets new staff members. Why? Well, teachers retire, some move, and others choose a new career path. This year seems so much different. The energy in the building is contagious, and we are excited about the new staff members that have joined our campus.

Ms. Edwards stated that she has always wanted to work at David W. Carter High School. Carter has a rich history and being about of the legacy here at Carter has always been a desire of mine. I want to make a difference and to help students succeed.” Ms. Bee states that “Teaching is my passion. I am really excited about the opportunity to motivate and inspire students. Growing up in D.C. is different but not as different as some may think. Being here provides me a great opportunity to make a difference and to share my story. Mentoring students is essential to our overall goal of maintaining our “A” status at David W. Carter High School. Mr. Ivey states that he is really excited to serve as a mentor. He says mentoring is about being honest and having those hard conversations. We expect for every last one of our students to reach their full potential so that is why we are here and that is why we serve. I am really excited to meet the new staff members. I am also thankful that we have such great teachers here on our campus. This is my 4th year and I can truly say that the staff here at Carter truly cares about the students. THE BEST BAND IN DALLAS Mike Clark, Jr. came and saw the band practice in the David W. Carter High School Band Room. He heard us play and wanted to meet the band in person. The band practiced “Cups In the Air”. This song was written and produced by Mike Clark, Jr. It is really a cool song to play with a really cool beat. The band enjoys playing this particular song.

THE BAND RECEIVES 1000 DOLLARS
We were very excited to meet Mike Clark, Jr. And we are also very excited to let our campus know that he donated 1000 dollars to our band to help us with ongoing projects designed to make us better. We want to thank Mike Clark, Jr. for the donation. This really means alot for our band, and it is great to know that people in our community care and are willing to support. Mike Clark, Jr. was impressed by the sound of the band. In addition, he took pictures with the band and provided autographs. He encouraged us to “Keep on Steppin” and moving forward inspite of obstacles that we may face. He reminded us to remember our why and to always keep God first as we go throughout this school year. GRADUATING EXCITED TO BE ON CAMPUS We could not wait until it was time to go to Dallas College. You may wonder why? Being at College feels invigorating. The vibe on the campus is really cool and the classes are challenging but fun.

Many of the seniors are excited that the process is almost over. We cannot wait to receive our college degrees and high school diploma. I think what I really like most about being at the college is knowing that I am one step closure to achieving my goal. Do you remember when you said you wanted to own your own business, or be a Doctor? Well, being at Dallas College brings us one step closure to reaching that goal. To all of my fellow classmates that attend Dallas College; make this your best year ever. From here, we all will continue our education and this will become a long distant memory. Soon the first day will turn into next semester and before we know it - it will be time to graduate. Let’s stay focused, finish strong, and let’s all have an enjoyable school year. Way to go CC!
