Pine Meadow Masterpiece
This residence is an original design by Jonathan L. Foote, the visionary architect whose place-based philosophy shaped an entire architectural movement across the Mountain West. Renowned for his skill at connecting home and land, integrating water views with the surrounding setting.
The Land Sited across three contiguous lots totaling 15.51 acres, this property allowed Foote to design with intention. The house and land exist in true alignment — a hallmark of the design philosophy that made JLF Architects synonymous with the Rocky Mountain West — oriented to capture water, open land, and mountain views in equal measure, with a level of privacy that is unparralled.
An Original Jonathan L. Foote Design 125 S Pines Edge Lane Wilson, Wyoming 83014 Completed in 1990 and thoughtfully updated in 2026, this was one of the first homes Foote designed in Wilson, Wyoming — a rare, original Foote residence brought fully into the present without losing what made it timeless in the first place. Jonathan L. Foote (1935–2026) discovered architecture at Yale and his calling in the Mountain West, founding his practice in Livingston, Montana in 1979. Over nearly five decades, his instinct for aligning design and setting inspired an entire architectural movement — that many have imitated but none have replicated.
Arrival The approach tells you everything. A stone path winds through mature gardens, past reclaimed log walls silvered with age, to a covered breezeway entrance built from hand-hewn timber. By the time you reach the door, you’ve already left the ordinary behind — this is arrival as Foote intended it: unhurried, deliberate, and entirely of its place.
The Great Room Beneath vaulted, timber-lined ceilings, a stacked stone fireplace anchors the room and a hand-built spiral staircase rises alongside it — the architectural heart of the home. 270 degrees of glass frame water and mountain views from nearly every angle, proof that Foote’s approach to light wasn’t simply a design feature but a philosophy: bring the outside all the way in.
Kitchen & Dining The gourmet kitchen opens directly to a dining room anchored by a stone hearth and wood-burning fireplace — a layout built for the kind of gathering that starts with cooking and doesn’t end until well after the dishes are done.
Where Indoors Meets Out Perhaps the most defining feature of this home is how Foote chose to connect its separate wings: not with hallways, but with glass. Walking from one part of the house to another means passing through architectural connections built almost entirely in glass — moments where you’re technically still indoors, but it feels like stepping outside. In places, you’re walking directly over moving water. It’s a small transition with an enormous effect: every trip across the house becomes a reminder of exactly where you are. A Philosophy of Gather and Retreat. Rather than one continuous structure, Foote designed this home as a series of connected buildings, each with its own character, its own fireplace, its own reason for being. The result is a floor plan that mirrors how people actually want to live: spaces to gather, and wings to retreat to.
Materials & Craft Every material here is used with intention. OSM Construction built the home with regionally sourced reclaimed logs, stone, and timber, much of it salvaged from historic structures across Wyoming and Montana. The result honors a heritage of craftsmanship that simply cannot be replicated through modern production methods. Nothing here was manufactured to look old. It is authentic, thoughtfully repurposed, and built to endure.
The Primary Wing The primary wing is a retreat within the retreat: a bedroom, a dressing room, a generous walkin closet, and a serene en-suite bathroom, all built with the same quality craftsmanship found throughout the home. It’s a suite designed for someone who values sleep as a luxury. This primary suite is designed for relaxing and rejuvenation, with nature as your wake-up call.
The Guest Wing The guest wing has its own privacy, accessed by a glass architectural connection. Enjoy a wood burning fireplace in the sitting room, a bedroom, and a full bathroom outfitted with new Waterworks fixtures and a soaking tub. Upstairs, a second bedroom and a three-quarter bath extend the wing further, private, comfortable, and built to the same standard as the rest of the home.
The Guest Apartment Above the garage, a separate guest apartment offers a fifth bedroom, a kitchenette, and a full bath, offering privacy ideal for extended family, guests, or full-time staff.
The Exterior Built from stone, log, and timber under a cedar-shake roof, the home is arranged wing by wing, each with direct outdoor access — putting nature within reach no matter the hour or which part of the house you’re in.
Live Water & Gardens Live water runs through the property, tying the home’s various wings and gardens together visually and physically. It’s rare to find moving water this integrated into a residential design, and rarer still to find it done with this much thoughtfulness.
