ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL NIX EXPLORE, PROCESS, CREATE, AND SHARE Mrs. Nix is the new Assistant Principal here at David W. Carter High School. She brings expertise in many areas but one of the most important areas will be her expertise in ensuring that all students receive a quality education in the 21st Century. She will provide leadership, oversight, and support to meet the academic, social, emotional, and accessibility needs of diverse learners. Welcome, Mrs. Nix. WELCOME BACK ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL MR. ARBUCKLE AND MR. GASSAWAY EXPLORE, PROCESS, CREATE, AND SHARE Mr. Arbuckle and Mr. Gassaway are both instrumental in the operations and the success of our campus. We are excited that both administrators are returning. Mr. Arbuckle serves as the Assistant Principal over the Collegiate Academy and Mr. Gassaway works with the Science and Social Studies Department and handles discipline. Both ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL administrators serve additional roles on MR. ARBUCKLE campus and are essential to the successes here at David W. Carter High School. Welcome back.

BACK TO SCHOOL FACULTY AND STAFF PREPARE FOR THE 2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR
EXPLORE, PROCESS, CREATE, AND SHARE The faculty and staff at David W. Carter High School participated in meaningful staff development to prepare for the 2026-2027 school year. The staff focused on the four foundational components for success this year which are: 1) Explore, 2) Process, 3) Create and 4) Share. The faculty and staff received the confidence to implement campus MR. JONES PRESENTS THE expectations, strategies to provide high- CAMPUS MISSION AND quality instruction, and ways to create a VISION positive learning environment that supports academic, social, and emotional success of every student. THE LEGACY CONTINUES DAVID W. CARTER MADE GAINS AND NOW ARE WORKING TOWARDS BECOMING AN “A” RATED CAMPUS EXPLORE, PROCESS, CREATE, AND SHARE David W. Carter has much to celebrate. Gains were made across the board and in every tested subject. The campus saw significant improvement in the STAAR scores for Algebra, Biology, English 1, English 2, and U.S. History. There were also gains on both first and second semester ACPs. The campus continues to wait in anticipation for this year’s campus rating. More details will follow in the next DWC student news edition. However, we are excited about the possibility to receive a “B” but the goal is to receive an “A”. All hands on deck. We can do this. Let’s do this. Let’s have an amazing and great year and go for the “A”.

THE LEGACY CONTINUES SUPERINTENDENT DR. ELIZALDE ENCOURAGES THE STAFF AND STUDENTS EXPLORE, PROCESS, CREATE, AND SHARE Dr. Elizalde is very excited about the progress that the Dallas Independent School District continues to make. Dallas ISD is rated as a “B” District and David W. Carter High School is a big part of this achievement. Dr. Elizalde encourages the staff and students to continue the legacy that has been established with all of the of accomplishments from this past school year. She encourages everyone to keep moving forward. Thank you Superintendent Dr. Elizalde for being an amazing leader and for encouraging us to acheive new heights.

THE LEGACY CONTINUES DAVID W. CARTER COLLEGIATE WELCOMES THE CLASS OF 2030 EXPLORE, PROCESS, CREATE, AND SHARE
David W. Carter Collegiate Academy welcomes the class of 2030. On August 6, 2026 the incoming 9th grade class participated in the David W. Carter Collegiate Orientation. The students met their classmates, participated in rigorous learning activites, registered for college classes at Dallas College, and completed the campus scavenger hunt. In addition, they picked up the new backpacks that includes the cell phone pouch and were assigned their personal laptops. It was a great experience interacting with the incoming 9th graders and we look forward to having them on campus. 9th graders remember the legacy continues with you.
