KEY TAKEAWAYS 1. Our results demonstrate the important role that race-conscious affirmative action policies have in diversifying law school campuses and, in turn, yielding the educational benefits that flow from that diversity.

2. Race-neutral policies are not as effective in producing diverse campuses, presuming that that law schools in states that implemented a ban on race-conscious affirmative action policies turned to race-neutral methods when the ban was enforced.

3. We expect that the Supreme Court’s decision is likely to have a similar effect on a national level. Such a decision would substantially decrease the already disproportionately low number of Black, Hispanic, Native American, and Pacific Islander lawyers.
