49th annual March for Life ST. PAUL – It has been 49 years since the landmark Roe v. Wade decision that eliminated laws protecting unborn children nationwide. In anticipation of the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling on Mississippi’s Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health (a late-term abortion case banning most abortions after 15-weeks of pregnancy – versus the current 24-weeks established in 1973 by Roe v. Wade), thousands of pro-life activists gathered in St. Paul on January 22 for the March for Life prayer service at the Cathedral of St. Paul followed by the 49th annual pro-life March on the grounds of the State Capitol. The Church of the Holy Redeemer in Marshall and the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm each provided bus transportation to the event. Pictured (left) Laurie (Gleisner) Schmit of New Ulm and Jane (Wenninger) Beranek of rural New Ulm were among those from the Diocese of New Ulm who, despite the frigid temps, attended the pro-life event. Both Schmit and Beranek took part in the first March for Life in 1973 as high schoolers.
