THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF
Dr. Bennie Lee Baker Dr. Bennie Lee Baker transitioned from this world to a world of eternity on August 11th, surrounded by his devoted wife (Channie) and children (Brian and Chandra). He was born to the late Willam B. Baker, Sr and Mattie Ida Peterson Baker in Cusseta, Georgia on November 20, 1944. Dr. Baker was a product of Chattahoochee County Public School system, graduating from Cusseta Industrial High School class of 1961. He continued his educational journey as follows: • BS in Science Education at Albany State College (University), Albany, GA. • MS in Biological Science at Tuskegee Institute, Tuskegee, AL. • MS in Biological Chemistry at The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI. • PhD in Biological Chemistry at The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI. • MD Degree at The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI. • Internal Medical Residency at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI. • Fellowship in Hepatology & Gastroenterology at The National Institute of Health, Bethesda, MD via Georgetown University, Washington, DC. • MBA Degree from John Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD Dr. Baker’s work experience included the following: • Teacher of Biology and Chemistry at Senior High School in Albany, GA. • Staff Chemist at Proctor and Gamble Company in Cincinnati, OH. • General Internal Medicine Medical Officer, District of Columbia, Department of Human Services, Washington, DC. • Clinic Chief of Anacostia Medical Clinic, District of Columbia Hospitals & Clinics, Washington, DC. • Emergency Room Physician (Part-Time) •National Emergency Services, Inc., Toledo, OH •Spectrum Emergency Care, Inc., St. Louis, MO •ational Emergency Services, Inc., Virginia Beach, VA • Medical Examiner, (Part-Time), Tazwell County, Tazwell, VA • Emergency Medicine Physician under Bennie L. Baker, MD, PhD, PC, Gaithersburg, MD. • Hospitalist, McLeod Regional Medical Center, Center, Florence, SC Throughout his illustrious career, he amassed the following: • 16 Total Publications • 13 Abstracts • 2 Patents
In addition to his educational journey, he also served in the United States Army and Reserves, retiring with the rank of Colonel.

Special Recognitions include Who’s Who, Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society, Fellow of the American College of Physicians and Diplomate of the American College of Ethical Physicians Dr. Baker was married to his devoted wife, Channie, for fifty-nine wonderful years. During those years, he moved his family 8 times through 7 states, all in pursuit of a better life for his family. He is survived by his wife, Channie; his son, Brian; his daughter, Chandra; two granddaughters, Marissa Baker Scivens (Julian) and Madison Baker, who affectionately called him “Pappy”; two sisters, Jearleane Baker and Louise Hughes; four brothers, four brothers, Johnny Baker and his wife, Delores, Joseph Baker and his wife, Claudia, Lionel Baker and his wife, Rowena, and Carl Baker and his wife, Emma; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and close friends. He is preceded in death by his first born, daughter Alica; father, William Sr.; his mother, Mattie Ida; two brothers, William Jr., and James; and two sisters, Evelyn and Charlotte. He will be remembered for his infectious laugh, his strong work ethics, and kind heartedness, but most importantly he will be remembered for being a great provider and a true inspiration to anyone that he encountered. His dedication to helping others exemplified his true character. The lives that he touched were enormous. Despite being a man of few words, his knowledge and commitment to always be there for his family, friends, co-workers and his patients is a testament to the type of person he was.
Message from his children & granddaughters
You always had a sparkle in your eye. You made it clear that we were your pride and joy, and the pride on your face whenever you looked at your children and granddaughters was unmistakable. Your values guided us, and your morals showed us the way. Each day, your example continues to shape our character. You were the ultimate provider, teacher, and role model—and so much more. You never let us see fear or uncertainty, which gave us strength to keep moving forward. You always told us how proud you were of us, but Daddy/Pappy, we were always proud of you, too. You prepared us well, so now you can rest. We love you for eternity.
Message from his Wife
Bennie, you have been the love of my life for over 60 year’s and we have handled things in this life together with grace, humility and most importantly love. The song “Made A Way” by Travis Green reminds me of our journey together.
