About half my classes are lab assignments where we build circuits and draw up reports on how it works. The other half are lectures and tutorials where we cover content and do exercises on them with the lecturer present for assistance.

What do you enjoy most about Student Life in DkIT:
I like how it is a small college where you get to know everyone in class. There is always some event or activity planned so you never find yourself without something to do.
What are your plans for the future when you have completed your programme?
I intend to stay in the area if I get a suitable job. I want to work in a company that has local and international exposure to the electrical industry.
What three pieces of advice would you give to students coming to do your programme?
As someone who returned to study at 22, do not feel out of place because you are too young or too old. Go for it!
Ignore the performance of people around you, just stay true to your work ethic and do as best as you can.
Give yourself adequate time to adjust to college life and enjoy the new opportunities that it brings.
Why did you choose your programme of study?
I have always had an interest in Engineering, specifically Electronic Systems. DkIT offered a course that allowed not only the theoretical aspects of Engineering to be studied but also the practical, which is crucial for becoming a successful Engineer. This attracted me to the course because I was hesitant to pursue full time education if I didn't have the ability to work with different programming and ECAD software and have the opportunity to be actually building physical circuits on Breadboards, instead of focusing only on theory. I also think that the support with finding work placement DkIT offers, and the opportunity to have it as part of you course is especially beneficial.

What three pieces of advice would you give to students coming to do your programme?
1. Join as many societies as you possibly can and don't be scared of turning up to a meeting and not knowing anyone. The whole point of societies is to get to meet new people and you

will be surprised at how welcoming everyone is.
2. Talk to different people any opportunity you get, especially during freshers week. Don't fear trying to strike up a conversation with people you don't know, this is how you get to know people and most students are in the exact same boat and just want to meet new people as well.
3. Don't be afraid to ask for help from lecturers or other staff. Lecturers want to know if you are struggling with anything and always want to help. It will save a lot of stress and time by just approaching them with your problem.
Why did you choose your programme of study?
I have always had an interest in motorsport and have always wanted to work with cars. Growing up in a family where you were always surrounded by cars, lorry’s and go karts, it was very easy to fall in love with cars. With having a family like mine and a grandad to rallied cars and a dad who would alway be fixing cars anytime you seen him in the shed, as I grew up and got more and more of an understanding of cars, I realised this is what I wanted to do with my life. By doing this course it has helped me get one step closer to that goal.

Depending on your timetable you could be busier with more lectures on some days then others. On the days where you have more gaps in the timetable I spend it in the Libary

What are your plans for the future when you have completed your programme?
When I am finished my course I hope to move on and work in motor sports. Whether that be in rallying, go karting or just simply designing the cars. My end goal is to work in F1 it’s the pinnacle of motorsport and where only the 20 best drivers races. To be able to travel the world and do something that you love is what I always wanted to do.
What three pieces of advice would you give to students coming to do your programme?
Make friends as soon as possible there the people that are going to get you through your course and are able to help you.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help there are so many resources in the college that are there to help you, along with the lectures who are more then happy to help you.
Try and have the best college experience, it’s not just about studying all the time and exams or is it about partying. It’s important to have a good balance of both.
Why did you choose your programme of study?
Since I was a child I’d take things apart to understand how they worked. I always knew I wanted to do something that involved creating and improving things. As I got older I realised that Mechanical Engineering would be a good fit for what I wanted to do. It’s such a broad field, and equips you with skills and knowledge that can be transferred to many areas.
Describe a typical day at college:
Typically I get the bus to college around 8 and arrive at DkIT at 8:20am. I usually would get a coffee and head to the first classroom not too long after. Days typically are different, but at about 1pm I’d go to the library and catch up on assignment work. That way I’ve less to do when I get home. After a while I’d meet up with a few of the people in my course and

head to class. Some classes like workshops or labs take up the evenings. These are quite fun classes, but some days it can be just lectures. After these I’d usually head home.
What are your plans for the future when you have completed your programme?
I’ve always had a love for space. If I could get a job working in that area I’d be very happy. For now my main goal when I graduate is to get experience and potentially do a Masters degree in aerospace or something like that maybe.
What three pieces of advice would you give to students coming to do your programme?
1. Engage with your classmates. They can give great ideas and knowledge that can help.
2. Try your best. The coursework can seem quite challenging sometimes, and you might
think it’s impossible, but just know that no one was born knowing it all and all you can do is try.
3. Have fun. Don’t forget to balance your studies with a social life. Making mates can make college a lot easier to deal with.
Why did you choose your programme of study?
I chose dkIT because I had a passion for engineering and I liked the fact that dkIT was a place where you could get to know the lecturers. I also loved the sport centre that was available for all the students.
Describe a typical day at college:
You come in say hello to your friends go to class, focus on the teacher and finish your assignments. At break you can go to the many places that offer coffee such as the coffee dock. You can also go to the restaurant for a full dinner. Or spend your time playing basketball in the Faulkner hall.

Why did you choose your programme of study?
From a young age I really enjoyed building buildings from anything and everything I could use. As I became older my interest grew and I became a lot more interested in the building/construction side of things. From my secondary school subject Technology and Design I got to study different materials and how they come together to create different forms and structures of buildings. This enabled me to gain a sense of structure. This lead to my decision to study building surveying.

I drive to college, so I usually get in way too early just to get parked sometimes it is really full or empty. Class begins at 9am, we usually be in 5 minutes before. Class then runs to 11am and you get a 15 minute break before

your next class. 11:15am - 1pm is usually the duration of your next class then it is lunch for an hour. Me and my friends usually go to the snack box in the college or Maxol which is across the street. Then 2-4pm is the next class but sometimes depending on your timetable you could have no class to 3-5pm. Then it is home time!!
What do you enjoy most about Student Life in DkIT:
I enjoy socialising with other students in my course and meeting new people from different courses. I also enjoy the atmosphere around the college as there is usually something fun on for students to do/see by the students union.
What are your plans for the future when you have completed your programme?
Just like anyone leaving college the goal is to make a lot of money. Ideally I will get into a brilliant, well known company where I can expand my knowledge. I feel this would be a great achievement as women are becoming a lot more present in the construction industry.
What three pieces of advice would you give to students coming to do your programme?
Firstly, not to worry or stress about making friends. On your first day you will be the same as everyone else and not know anyone. The lecturers and student ambassadors are there to help, through ice breaker games that help everyone get to know each other. On my first day I sat beside another girl we both were so nervous we didn’t even ask each other our names we just talked about everything else. I’m now best friends with that girl and stuck with her.
Secondly, is to create a college and social life balance early. Yes the nights out are great craic but don’t forgot to wake up for that class the next day. Go out and enjoy your night out but don’t totally forget about your college work try get it done before you go because it can build up quickly. Deadlines seem a long time away when they are given out but when they are due you won’t realise how quick that time flys. Also lecturers understand college isn’t only about the work so put the effort in when you can. They notice.
Thirdly, make a class group chat, you never know when you might be off and need notes from people.
Why did you choose your programme of study?
I chose to study Architectural Technology for the simple understanding I have had all my life of how structures are put together. I developed this through many facets, mainly from lego.

I've often been told that my schedule is 'crazy' but I see it as the ability to give me the best opportunity of the day while I'm at college. I'd typically be in early and utilise the library or any free classroom to study and adapt myself to the day ahead, I'd have my classes and do all of the heavy work in those classes so I would have the ability to study later on in the day, and at lunchtime I would find my friends walk around the campus with them and try to

Student life in college is the beginning of a new world for yourself. It is about growing as a person and stepping into the character in your life that your next chapter requires you to be. Student life in DkIT in particular has proven for me to be an experience of highs and lows but these difficulties have helped to change my perspective on experiences as a whole
What are your plans for the future when you have completed your programme?
I don't have the knowledge of what I want to do when I have completed my course. I think knowing what you want to do for the rest of
your life while in one moment of it, limits your potential and opportunities as you become rigid to what you can do. I would love to achieve many things in my life, but all I know is at this moment I want to study Architectural Technology in DkIT.
What three pieces of advice would you give to students coming to do your programme?
The advice I would give to all new aspiring Architectural Technologists, is to understand the responsibility of the course, don't be afraid to take initiative as everyone around you is right where you are as well and wear a smile to show everyone around you that you respect them and their willingness to be here as well.
Why did you choose your programme of study?
My course is Mechanical engineering and I chose this program because mechanical engineers are involved in the design and development of new technologies, products, and systems. DkIT's course offers creativity and innovation to come up with novel solutions to improve efficiency, sustainability, and functionality in the world of mechanics. The environment of the college is soothing and comforting which allows brainy swiftness.

My college starts at 9 in the morning with lab sessions and theory classes after which I grab lunch with my senior friends. We spend some time at the library completing our assignments and projects. After 5pm we've a badminton session in the MPC. Later we head to the DkIT gym for the rest of our day.

For me DkIT is the first taste of independence away from home. This newfound freedom allows me to make my own decisions, manage my time, and explore my interests without constant parental oversight. This exploration will help me identify my passions and career aspirations.
What are your plans for the future when you have completed your programme?
My future plans focus on my career for design engineering roles where I'll be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and developing new products, systems, or components. I'll look for opportunities in industries such as automotive, aerospace, consumer electronics, or medical devices, where design plays a critical role.
What three pieces of advice would you give to students coming to do your programme?
Take advantage of laboratory sessions, design projects, and internships to gain hands-on experience with engineering concepts and tools.

Why did you choose your programme of study?
I chose my course because I've grown up building things starting with Lego and gradually graduating to harder projects such as small robots and Pc's. Doing Technology in secondary school was also a large factor for my choice since every class was fun, especially with the practical lessons where it was my first experience building projects from scratch and also make my own circuit boards which was always interesting. I also have family involved with electronics and electrical work so I was inspired to follow a similar path. The college is also very accessible to me as a Dundalk resident so it's far easier to commute.

Wake up bright and early at around 6-7am if it's not the Christmas period Make sure I leave the house at around 8:30am since it's a

25 minute walk up. Attend class untill break which is typically from 1-2pm which I normally spend doing assignments, and attend classes for the rest of the day. On a bad day I'll be in untill 5pm and on a good day I’ll be finished at 3 or 4 pm.

I'm currently not part of any clubs or societies but the plan is to join one socializing society and one sports society this year.
What do you enjoy most about Student Life in DkIT:
Meeting new people who have a similar area of interest, learning new interesting things about the area of study I chose, using the available facilities for assignments or study and the practical work in labs.
What are your plans for the future when you have completed your programme?
I have no solid or fancy plans for the future. I only hope that I can find good work as soon as I can after college and start earning a good living. Then consider something fancy.
What three pieces of advice would you give to students coming to do your programme?
First, I'd say to come in with the confidence to talk to as many of your classmates as you can, you aren't the only new student dosent know
anyone, most people will happily converse with you.
Second, make sure you complete you assignments as early as you can because they will start stacking up and put a lot of pressure on you and eat up any free time you might have.
And third, make sure you stay on top of your maths. Since there's loads of maths involved with pretty much every module it can seem hard to keep up but if you take the time to understand it life will be much easier.
Why did you choose your programme of study?
I chose Civil Engineering in DkIT because they had really good opotunities. They had lower entry requirements when it came to grades. It gave me an opootunity to study and gave me a second chance of redemption. They also have oppotunites to upgrade within the programme. I liked their outline on the programme and it covered so many modules I wanted to study.

I try to always be in college 10 mins before class beggins. That would be 8.50am. We normally have two back to back classes in the morning. What are your plans for the future when you have completed your programme?
My plan is to hopefully enter into a graduate programme and learn and get eased into the engineering Industry. Then after I would love to get into project managemnt oppotunities because I love that kind of work, the maths the planning and so forth. Given the
oppotunity to travel with work, that would be a really good one.

Find your crew it will make your life so much easier as a student if your doing it with friends.
Attend your classes, by just attending your classes your workload is just decrased cause you don’t have to study and attempt to understand on your own.
