(Tiffany Miller for ALG Vacations) The flight search is open, but many travelers are pausing before they book. Prices feel higher than last year, headlines are heavy and budgets are tighter. Still, the question isn’t whether to take a vacation, but how to make it work.

A November 2025 survey from ALG Vacations of U.S. adults planning to travel in 2026 shows that financial pressure is reshaping how people approach vacations, not whether they take them. While 81% say they have at least some concern about their household finances in the months ahead, 92% say they would still travel even if tighter finances required scaling back.

Financial pressure shapes decisions, not demand

That shift shows up in the small moments of planning. Travelers are taking longer to compare prices, reconsidering timing and adjusting expectations before they book.

Inflation and rising prices top the list of concerns, cited by 61% of respondents, reinforcing why travelers are rethinking destinations, trip length and overall costs.

packaged vacation travelers expect to spend more than $2,500 on their next trip, compared with 47% of those who have never booked a packaged vacation.

Taken together, the findings point to a confidence gap, with prior experience linked to greater comfort committing to international travel and higher spending.

Professional guidance plays a larger role when planning gets complex

For many travelers, planning no longer stops at picking dates and destinations. Rising prices, shifting availability and higher expectations have turned vacation planning into a series of decisions that feel harder to navigate alone.

That complexity shows up most clearly among travelers with prior packaged vacation experience. Ninety four percent say they plan to use a travel advisor, compared with 81% of those without prior packaged vacation experience.

The gap suggests that familiarity with structured travel planning often leads travelers to seek expert guidance. As trips become more layered, getting the details right matters as much as the destination itself.

Travel remains a priority, even as decisions slow

The findings suggest that travel is still very much on the table, even as decisions take longer to make. Travelers are weighing trade offs, seeking guidance and leaning on experience as they plan, rather than walking away altogether.

Concerns about global events and safety follow at 39%, with broader political and economic instability close behind at 38%.

Still, those worries rarely lead travelers to walk away from travel altogether. Instead, many describe pulling back in measured ways, scaling down plans, rethinking details and making trade offs that keep a trip possible, even if it looks different than originally imagined.

Experience changes how travelers move from planning to booking

Not all travelers navigate those trade offs the same way. For some, uncertainty slows the process. For others, familiarity helps clear the final hurdle.

Among respondents who have previously booked a packaged vacation through a major vacation brand, 80% say they plan to take an international trip in the next year, compared with 46% of those without that experience.

That confidence carries into spending decisions as well. Sixty seven percent of

The flight search may stay open a little longer this year. But for many Americans, the trip is still happening.

Methodology

ALG Vacations commissioned Atomik Research to conduct an online survey of U.S. adults planning to travel and travelers with prior packaged vacation experience in the United States.

The survey included 1,000 adults planning to travel and a subsample of 502 respondents who had previously booked a packaged vacation through a major vacation brand.

The margin of error is plus or minus 3 percentage points for the full sample and 4 percentage points for the packaged vacation subsample at a 95 percent confidence level.

Fieldwork was conducted in November 2025. Atomik Research, part of 4media group, is a creative market research agency.

ENTERTAINING ON EASTER: 5 TIPS TO MAKE HOSTING SIMPLE

(Family Features) Easter signals springtime and provides an opportunity to gather with loved ones to celebrate. However, hosting the get together whether brunch, lunch or dinner requires planning and preparation to ensure the event is enjoyable.

From the guest list and menu to the decor and activities for the kiddos, consider these steps to get ready for Easter hosting duties.

Make a Guest List

When planning your gathering, first think about how many people your space can accommodate. Ensure there’s a place for everyone to sit and eat, even if that means bringing in extra tables and chairs or designating a “kids table” so all the adults can sit together. Once you know how many people you can invite and have a plan for seating send out festive invitations or create a group on social media with your preferred guests to gather RSVPs.

Take Inventory of Necessities

Once you have your guest list set, take inventory of serving dishes, utensils, linens and glassware. Depending on the number of guests, you may need to invest in extra supplies or borrow from a friend or relative to ensure you have everything you need. If you don’t have enough of one set of plates and flatware, mixing and matching is a trendy move and can serve as

an additional aspect of your decor.

Plan the Menu

When setting your menu, traditional favorites like ham or lamb are almost always a hit but remember to consider any diet accommodations that may need to be made for any vegan or vegetarian guests. Dishes featuring eggs, carrots, ginger and other ingredients that call spring to mind like quiches, soups, galette and more can be a perfect complement to the traditional main course. Serving the meal family style with platters and bowls for everyone to share or hosting a potluck with guests bringing assigned dishes can help reduce the stress of trying to prepare the entire meal yourself.

Decorate in Advance

From a seasonal wreath on the front door to a well dressed table complete with place settings and a festive centerpiece, getting your decorating done early can not only reduce stress on the day of your event but also get you into the proper mindset for the celebration. A pastel or light colored hue can add to the springtime vibes, and flowers, seasonal fruits in bowls and decorated eggs can all add to the tablescape.

Keep the Kids in Mind

While the meal is likely a highlight of the event for many, the younger guests often look forward to the activities, such as decorating eggs or an Easter egg hunt. You can hard boil eggs in advance and set up a decorating station, complete with dyes, markers, stickers and more. Or while you’re finishing up inside, designate another adult or older children to hide pre filled plastic eggs around the yard (weather permitting) and manage the hunt.

(Feature Impact) The driver’s license photo may be slightly awkward, but the milestone is unforgettable. For families, a newly licensed teen means independence, busy schedules and a new set of responsibilities.

Motor vehicle crashes remain one of the leading causes of death for U.S. teens, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shows drivers ages 16 19 are nearly three times more likely to be involved in a fatal crash than drivers 20 and older, per mile driven.

The statistics are serious, but they are also manageable.

With the right preparation, teen driving doesn’t have to feel overwhelming, said Susan Irace, manager, divisional claims at Mercury Insurance. Experience is what young drivers are building. Parents can help shorten that learning curve with structure, technology and smart coverage decisions.

Why the First Year Matters

Federal safety data shows crash risk is highest in a teen’s first year of independent driving. Night driving, teen passengers and distracted driving increase that risk while seat belts, graduated licensing laws and supervised practice significantly reduce it.

In 2023, more than 2,800 teens ages 13 19 were killed in motor vehicle crashes nationwide, according to the CDC. However, teen crash rates have declined over time thanks to safer vehicles,

graduated driver licensing programs and greater awareness of distracted driving.

Ways to Reduce Teen Driving Risk

The experts at Mercury Insurance encourage families to focus on preparation rather than panic.

1. Coach Early and Often

Log supervised driving time in different conditions highways, rain, nighttime Create a simple written driving agreement outlining expectations

Limit teen passengers during the first year Make seatbelts non negotiable

2. Let Technology Help

Choose vehicles with safety features like automatic emergency braking and blind spot monitoring

(Culinary.net) You can almost feel spring in the air, and with the warmer weather comes delicious, delectable foods. From casseroles to fresh fruits and wholesome vegetables, a change of season offers something to look forward to for nearly every foodie.

A spring dish that is sure to impress is this Cheesy Asparagus Tart. It has melty cheese, cooked asparagus and an under layer of puff pastry baked to golden brown perfection.

Start by cooking your asparagus on the stove top in 5 cups of water for 5 8 minutes. Then soak it in an ice bath until cooled. Transfer to a mixing bowl to add vegetable oil, salt and pepper for tasty, seasoned veggies.

Now it’s time to work with your puff pastry. Sprinkle some flour on a flat countertop. Roll out the thawed puff pastry to a 16 by 10 inch rectangle. Move to a lined baking sheet and prick with a fork to create a thin, flaky texture. Bake around 12 minutes and cool.

The final steps: mix the cheeses, shallots, egg yolks, nutmeg, salt and pepper. Spread this mixture across the pastry and lay asparagus over the top. Bake 5 more minutes.

For a little extra flavor, add lemon zest over the tart.

This tart is a perfect appetizer before Sunday brunch or to cut up and take outside for some al fresco dining this spring.

It’s got gooey, melted cheeses, is seasoned well and has hearty asparagus on top. Plus, it’s a yummy way to add vegetables to your kids’ diet

ITALIAN MODERNISM MAKES A COMEBACK IN TODAY’S HOME INTERIORS

(BPT) Homeowners and designers alike are rethinking what it means for a home to feel modern. Instead of extreme precision or fast moving trends, there’s a growing desire for spaces that feel calm, expressive and built to last. People want rooms that look intentional, but still feel lived in, resulting in a renewed appreciation for materials crafted with quality and investment in statement pieces. This shift brings renewed attention to a design movement that has never truly gone out of style: Italian modernism. Known for its expressive geometry, sculptural silhouettes and architectural structure, this influential aesthetic is shaping today’s interiors in fresh, contemporary ways.

A return to expressive geometry

Italian modernism has always celebrated geometry not as a rigid system, but as a source of emotion and movement. Today’s homeowners are gravitating toward these shapes for their ability to soften a space while still feeling architectural.

The Roccesco Bath Collection by Brizo is a recent example of this approach. Its name is derived from rocchetto, the Italian word for spool, a reference reflected in the collection’s sculptural forms. Looping arcs, circular forms and silhouettes embody this philosophy, creating a look that feels both timeless and

forward looking.

Customizable craftmanship

A renewed appreciation for craftsmanship is shaping how kitchens and baths are being designed. Natural elements such as stone, metal, glass and wood are increasingly favored not only for their durability, but for the character they bring to a space. Italian modernism has always valued precision, materiality and the idea that everyday objects should be beautiful enough to stand alone as art.

Functional beauty

One of the defining traits of Italian modernism is the belief that beauty and function should support each other. Today’s designers are applying that approach to fixtures that serve as both visual anchors and everyday tools.

The Roccesco Halo shower head exemplifies this balance, with precisely angled nozzles that create a funnel like water flow for a fully immersive experience. Its circular form plays with positive and negative space, resulting in a minimalist profile that remains distinctly sculptural. The Sconce shower head offers a complementary interpretation, blending circular and linear elements to create a silhouette that feels more like a piece of artwork than a traditional fixture.

At a time when interiors are moving away from quick trends, designers are rediscovering the Italian approach to modernism. New collections illustrate how the style continues to evolve, translating historic design ideals into contemporary spaces that prioritize personality, form and function. As homeowners continue to seek interiors that feel personal, sculptural and serene, this style movement shows no sign of fading. Its blend of geometry, craftsmanship and emotional resonance makes it uniquely suited to modern living.

GET YOUR HOME READY FOR WARMER WEATHER WITH THESE SEASONAL TIPS

(BPT) As winter fades and spring approaches, it’s time for homeowners to prepare their homes for the changing season. Freezing temperatures, heavy rains and snow buildup can take a toll on your property, making spring maintenance essential for preventing costly repairs and keeping your home in top shape.

“The transition from winter to spring is the perfect time for homeowners to inspect their property for any damage caused by cold weather,” said Bonnie Lee, Vice President of Property Claims at Mercury Insurance. “By tackling maintenance tasks early, you can prevent small issues from becoming bigger problems as temperatures rise.”

Spring Home Maintenance Checklist

Inspect gutters and prepare your roof for spring storms: Winter weather can leave gutters clogged with debris. Clear out your gutters and ensure downspouts are secure to prevent water damage. It’s also a good time to check for visible roof damage and trim overhanging branches. For added protection, homeowners may consider sealing their roof deck and asking their contractor about the FORTIFIED roofing standard, as recommended by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS). These steps can help reduce water intrusion and better prepare your home for severe spring weather.

Check for exterior damage: Look for cracks in your foundation, siding or driveway that may have developed due to freezing and thawing cycles. Repairing them early can prevent further

deterioration.

Service your HVAC system: Before warm weather arrives, schedule an HVAC tune up to ensure your air conditioning system runs efficiently. Replace air filters and check vents for proper airflow.

Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors: Spring is a great time to test alarms and replace batteries to keep your home safe.

Examine windows and doors: Check for drafts and reseal or replace weather stripping as needed. This helps improve energy efficiency and keeps pollen and allergens from entering your home.

Inspect outdoor plumbing: Freezing temperatures can cause pipes to crack. Turn on outdoor faucets and irrigation systems to check for leaks before regular use.

Clean and seal decks and patios: Winter moisture can lead to wood rot and mold. Power wash, reseal and inspect for damage to keep your outdoor spaces in great condition.

Prepare your landscaping: Trim overgrown branches, remove dead plants, and refresh garden beds with new mulch to encourage healthy spring growth.

By staying proactive with seasonal home maintenance, homeowners can protect their investment and avoid unexpected repairs,” added Bonnie Lee, Vice President of Property Claims at Mercury Insurance. “A little preparation now can go a long way in ensuring a smooth transition into spring.”

Protect Your Home Year Round

Seasonal maintenance is key to keeping your home in top condition, but having the right insurance coverage is just as important. Mercury Insurance offers homeowners coverage to protect against unexpected damages and weather related issues.

TONY AWARD‑WINNER “APPROPRIATE” March 18 ‑ April 19, Olney Theatre, tickets $52 ‑ $96, Mulitz‑Gudelsky Theatre Lab. Branden Jacobs‑Jenkins’ searing satire of a family digging through their recently deceased patriarch’s crumbling estate is both gut‑splittingly funny and shocking in its confrontation of conveniently forgotten family history. DC‑luminaries Kimberly Gilbert (Angels in America) and Cody Nickell (Ink) star as siblings battling over the possession and meaning of their father’s dark patrimony. As the rest of the family descends on the ancestral property in rural Arkansas, old rivalries and grudges are eclipsed by the moral weight of what they find. Staged in our black box Mulitz‑Gudelsky Theatre Lab, this will be a unique staging of one of the most important American plays of the past 15 years.Due to the layout of the Mulitz‑Gudelsky Theatre Lab, late seating is at the discretion of the House Manager. Those exiting the theatre during the performance will not be re‑admitted while the performance is in progress.
