Freight Takes Flight in Western Sydney
Submit your Community Notice on/by 10th of the month, to be included in the following edition. Notices may be edited or omitted due to space limitations. E: info@districtgazette.com.au
A Qantas plane laden with AusPost parcels was the first freight plane to take off from Western Sydney International Airport recently. The new cargo precinct is a big boost to Sydney’s aviation cargo capacity, with extensive warehousing space which will ultimately cater for up to 1.8 million tonnes of air cargo annually. Stage one of the precinct will be able to cater for up to eight wide-body freighters like 747s or 16 narrow-body domestic freighters like 737s or A321s at the same time. WSI’s cargo precinct will be utilised by Qantas Freight, Menzies Aviation, dnata Cargo, dnata Catering & Retail and Texel Air. This modern cargo hub will support businesses and strengthen supply chains as Western Sydney is connected to the world. Western Sydney International Airport’s freight operations will be joined by regular passenger services from 11:00am 25 October 2026, when Jetstar’s sold-out inaugural flight JQ362 takes off from Western Sydney bound for the Gold Coast. Western Sydney’s new 24-hour airport is the centrepiece of the Albanese Labor Government's near $18 billion investment in Western Sydney, including the future Sydney Metro Airport rail connection and significant road upgrades to nearby Elizabeth Drive, Fifteenth Avenue and Mamre Road. This investment builds upon benefits already delivered through the recent opening of the M12 Motorway. The entire WSI project has created over 12,800 jobs, half of which have come from the local area. More than $500 million has also been invested in more than 360 Western Sydney based businesses during major construction works at WSI, including local tradies and construction companies, caterers, and security guards. “Testing at the freight precinct is now complete, and now Western Sydney International Airport is operational and welcoming freight flights. “Our first flights have arrived and are being packed and readied for departure as we speak. “It’s exciting progress as we gear up to seeing passenger flights commence on October 25” said Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King. “The growth and demand for parcel delivery from Australia Post is continuing to grow and it’s important the infrastructure is there to support that. "Australia Post is a trusted national service that keeps our economy moving and the country connected” said Minister for Communications Anika Wells MP. “Western Sydney Airport gives freight and logistics operators the round-the-clock capacity they need in one of Australia’s fastest growing regions. “Combined with the Aerotropolis, it will mean manufacturers and exporters can move goods from factory floors to aircrafts in hours, not days - creating faster, more resilient supply chains and helping Australian businesses to compete in global markets. “This is how we build industrial capability, attract investment and cement Western Sydney as a major hub for industry, logistics and advanced manufacturing” said Minister for Industry Senator Tim Ayres. r Image Supplied | Article: Catherine King MP

Plans Endorsed to Support the Future Growth of Oran Park Town Centre Camden Council has endorsed plans to support the future growth of the Oran Park Town Centre, paving the way for the proposal to be considered by the NSW Government. At its Ordinary Meeting last month, Council endorsed a Planning Proposal and draft amendments to the Oran Park Precinct Development Control Plan (DCP), which aim to expand the town centre and increase maximum building heights in selected locations. The proposal would expand the town centre, creating capacity for approximately 100,000 square metres of additional commercial floor space. This, in turn, would support more businesses, jobs and services for the growing community. The proposal also includes increased maximum building heights across parts of the town centre, with taller buildings proposed in selected locations. The Planning Proposal has been independently assessed and found to have strategic and site-specific merit. It was also supported by the Camden Local Planning Panel to progress to the next stage of the planning process. Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said the endorsement was an important step in planning for the future of one of the fastest-growing centres in South Western Sydney. "Oran Park is an award-winning master planned community and its growth isn’t over yet,” she said. “It’s important we plan ahead to ensure the town centre can meet the needs of our community now and in the future. This proposal is about creating opportunities for more local jobs, businesses, services and community facilities, while supporting the long-term vision for the suburb. "It’s also very important essential infrastructure keeps pace as this growth happens. Council will continue to strongly advocate to the NSW Government for critical transport infrastructure, including the full North South Metro line and upgrades to the surrounding road network, to ensure Camden remains connected and supported." Council's endorsement does not mean the proposal has been approved. The Planning Proposal will now be forwarded to the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure for Gateway Determination. If Gateway approval is received, the proposal will be placed on public exhibition, giving the Camden community the opportunity to review the plans and provide feedback before any final decisions are made.

A New Chapter for Retirement Living in the Heart of Oran Park
As Oran Park continues to grow, a new generation of residents is helping shape what the area will look like in the coming years. Among them will be older Australians looking to stay close to the places, people and lifestyle they love. The Saxon, a new community being developed near Oran Park Town Centre, is bringing an innovative approach to retirement living. It combines independence with connection and sophisticated community living with the convenience of having everything close by. “The Saxon is an important development for Oran Park because it recognises that retirement living needs to evolve alongside the communities it serves,” says Tim Grover, National Sales Director. “It’s not simply about providing somewhere to live; it’s about creating a place where people can remain connected to their community while enjoying an active lifestyle.” At the heart of The Saxon is a collection of shared spaces designed to encourage residents to come together. A dedicated concierge provides a warm welcome in the grand entrance hall, while the club lounge offers a relaxed setting for catching up with neighbours over a coffee, a game of billiards or a drink at the stylish bar. There’s also an elegant wine room, boutique cinema and a rooftop garden. The choice extends to the residences themselves, with thoughtfully designed apartments and luxurious Signature Collection residences. Residents can choose a home that reflects their lifestyle and what matters most to them. “The Saxon is where retirement living is heading,” Tim says. “It’s contemporary, connected and designed around how people want to live today.” On Thursday 24 September, from 2pm, The Saxon is holding a launch event with a celebrity guest speaker, at the Oran Park Hotel, 81 Central Avenue. You can RSVP on 0460 862 012 or live@thesaxon.com.au. To find out more, visit thesaxon. com.au r Image/Article: Supplied

Camden's Young Leaders Shine During Local Government Week Camden Council celebrated Local Government Week by recognising the next generation of community leaders through its annual Mayor for a Day public speaking competition. Local Government Week, which ran from Monday 3 to Sunday 9 August, celebrates the valuable role councils play in delivering infrastructure, services, programs and facilities that help communities thrive. The Mayor for a Day competition invited Year 6 students from schools across the Camden Local Government Area to deliver a three-minute speech outlining why they would like to be Mayor of Camden and the ideas they would introduce to help shape the future of the local area. Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said all students who
participated demonstrated an impressive understanding of local government and a genuine passion for their community. "Local Government Week is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the important role councils play in supporting our communities every day," she said. "Our Mayor for a Day competition gives young people the chance to learn more about local government while sharing their own ideas for Camden's future. "I'd like to congratulate all of the students who took part. Their confidence, creativity and enthusiasm for making a positive difference in our community were truly inspiring." Following a judging reception held at the Council Chambers, Christopher from St Clare's Catholic Primary School was named Mayor, Aria from Barramurra Public School was named Deputy Mayor and Anakai from St Justin's Catholic Primary School was named the Highly Commended, with all three receiving Harry Hartog gift vouchers. Christopher also experienced the ceremonial role of Mayor by wearing the Mayoral robes and chains, visiting the Mayor's office and sitting in the Mayor's chair. The judging panel assessed each speech on presentation, knowledge of local government, understanding of the Camden area and the students’ ideas for improving the community.

Major Investment Delivering Better Sporting Facilities Across Camden Camden Council is continuing to invest in high-quality sporting infrastructure, with the completion of the new Camden Tennis Clubroom and significant progress being made on a number of major sports facility upgrades across the Camden area. The newly completed Camden Tennis Clubroom provides a modern and functional base for the club, supporting its dayto-day operations and enhancing the experience for players, members and visitors. The project was jointly funded by Camden Council and the NSW Government's Office of Sport, with Council contributing $120,000 alongside $403,000 in grant funding. Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said the completion of the clubroom was another example of Council's commitment to delivering facilities that support the growing needs of local sporting clubs and residents. "Sport plays an important role in bringing our community together and Council is proud to continue investing in facilities that support participation, inclusion and active lifestyles," she says. "The completion of the Camden Tennis Clubroom is a fantastic outcome for the club and its members, and it forms part of a broader program of upgrades being delivered across our sporting network."
Construction is also progressing on Stage 2 of the redevelopment of Harrington Park Reserve, with works focused on a new sports amenities building, expanded car parking, spectator seating, pedestrian pathways and landscaping improvements. The $3.9 million project is being co-funded by Council and the NSW Office of Sport and is expected to be completed in September 2026, weather permitting. Council has also recently completed a new playground at Kirkham Oval, replacing an existing but outdated play space. The upgraded playground has been relocated to improve visibility and supervision and features modern play equipment, softfall surfaces, new landscaping and park furniture. Meanwhile, Council is preparing to commence two further sports infrastructure projects later this year. At Kirkham Oval in Elderslie, construction of a new $4 million amenities building is underway and will deliver female-friendly change rooms, a referee room, first aid facilities and supporting amenities to service the adjacent rugby field. The project has received $1 million in funding through the NSW Government's Greater Cities and Regional Sport Facility Fund, with Council contributing $3 million. Council will also deliver a new $1.5 million sports amenities building at Nugget Beames Reserve in Narellan Vale. The facility will include new changerooms and additional storage to support the growing number of players, officials and volunteers who regularly use the reserve. Run Camden 2026: A Sensational Beginning runners, and a sense of pride that money simply can't buy. That's the Camden difference: a big-event experience with a small-town heart. None of it would have been possible without the extraordinary generosity of over 100 volunteers, whose tireless work behind the scenes kept everything running smoothly, and the invaluable support of Council, whose backing helped turn a vision into reality. Run Camden has arrived, and it's here to stay. With plans already underway for 2027, this event is on track to become one of NSW's premier running fixtures. Thank you, Camden, for showing the state how it's done. See you next year, bigger and better than ever. The inaugural Run Camden has set a new benchmark for community running events in NSW, and what a debut it was. Organisers anticipated around 800 participants - instead, more than 2,065 laced up on the day, cheered on by over 1,500 spectators under pristine winter skies. The numbers alone tell a story of success, but they don't capture the atmosphere. From the first starting gun, Camden buzzed with genuine community spirit. Despite its Sydney postcode, the event radiated the warmth, generosity, and connection of a true country town - neighbours cheering neighbours, local businesses rallying behind r Images: @krizysee | Article: Elite Energy
MIND MATTERS Article Written + Submitted by: Keira Noble | Clinical Psychologist The Anxiety & Depression Clinic W: www.anxietydepressionclinic.com.au P: 0424 263 577 | 02 46266932
Procrastination Do you frequently put off tasks until the last minute, only to find yourself feeling overwhelmed and stressed? Procrastination is a very common problem for many people across many domains. Whether we procrastinate on completing household chores, paying bills, work tasks, or academic assignments, the accumulating stress of putting things off and cramming can negatively impact our mental health. There are various reasons why people procrastinate, but some common causes have been identified, including believing that one works better under pressure or believing that one needs to have the right mindset in order to achieve the best result. In the short term, procrastinating on a task feels beneficial, as we avoid the time, effort, energy, and feelings of anxiety, frustration, or confusion that completing the task may evoke. However, procrastinating, more often than not, leads to longterm pain, with us then feeling pressured and overwhelmed, with limited time to complete the task and, in some cases, even failing to complete it, leading to much larger consequences.
Behaviour Changer – Tips to Help Reduce Procrastination • Identify the tasks that you procrastinate over. • Notice the discomfort that arises when approaching the task and attempt to sit with this feeling. • Reverse the script – try and choose short-term pain for longterm gain. Imagine how you will feel when you complete the task. • When feeling overwhelmed by the task, break it down to the smallest action needed to start. E.g., if completing an assignment, the first action may be to commit to writing one sentence. • Identify your common methods of procrastination and remove them. E.g., if you scroll on your phone, leave your phone in a different room. • Reward yourself for the small actions you complete. • When you complete a task, savour the feeling of achievement.

As spring draws closer, there is a renewed sense of optimism throughout our community. Longer days, warmer weather and busy community calendars remind us that every season brings fresh opportunities. Each month we have the privilege of sharing stories about local businesses, volunteers, sporting clubs and community groups who continue making a positive difference. Their commitment and perseverance help create stronger, more connected neighbourhoods and inspire others to do the same. These stories remind us that progress is not always immediate, but every positive action contributes to something greater. It is this shared community spirit that makes our region such a wonderful place to live, work and raise a family. Thank you for continuing to support District Gazette and for allowing us to celebrate the people and achievements that make our local communities so special. "Nothing can dim the light that shines from within." Maya Angelou
