Bus Boom Arrives as New Western Sydney Routes Commence
Western Sydney communities including Narellan, Oran Park and Mt Druitt are now connected by five new permanent bus routes launched recently, bringing the total number of new services installed by the Minns Labor Government to 5,910.
The new routes from Liverpool (825 and 860), Campbelltown (845 and the enhanced 840), Penrith (790) and Mount Druitt (772) will connect communities that have been underserviced by public transport with train stations, shops, hospitals, jobs and the new Western Sydney International Airport.
These services will run every 30 minutes from 5am to 10pm, seven days a week, totalling 2,626 services across the week.
This $302.7 million investment is part the Minns Labor Government’s work to rebuild and expand bus services in NSW, after the 2024 Bus Industry Taskforce found buses had been “neglected” and “underfunded” under the former LiberalNational government.
In the recent budget the Minns Labor Government announced an additional record investment of $6.5 billion for hundreds of new electric buses and electric bus depots to reduce our reliance on foreign fuels, meet the needs of the growing community and underpin a revival of domestic bus manufacturing.
To support the new services, the NSW Government is also investing in bus infrastructure. This includes upgrading driver facilities at some of the busiest interchanges in the state such as Mt Druitt, Blacktown, Bankstown, Parramatta and Fairfield and installing new signs at bus stops across Western Sydney.
The NSW Government is also partnering with selected Western Sydney councils to deliver more than 30 new bus shelters along the new routes as part of the $1.5 million trial Bus Shelter Program.
Since coming to office, the Minns Labor Government has:
• Added nearly 6000 new bus services, the majority in Western Sydney.
• Restored the popular M52 Parramatta to CBD via Ryde service and the 301 Rosebery to Eastgardens service.
• Reduced the bus driver shortage down from over 500 to under 200.
• Ordered 923 new buses including 50 new articulated (bendy) buses and 10 new decker buses.
• Increased local content to over 50% of over half the buses ordered.

Camden Celebrates Two More Award Wins
Camden Council is celebrating two more award wins, taking home two prestigious honours at the Parks and Leisure Australia NSW/ACT Awards of Excellence.
The awards recognise both outstanding community infrastructure and leadership, with Council's Oran Park Leisure Centre receiving the Community Facility of the Year Award and Council's Coordinator Sport & Leisure Management, Marilyn Oliver, recognised as an Emerging Leader.
The Community Facility of the Year Award recognises the Oran Park Leisure Centre as an outstanding example of innovation, accessibility and sustainability in community infrastructure. Since opening in October 2024, the $67 million facility has welcomed more than one million visits and become a thriving hub for sport, recreation, health and community connection in one of Australia's fastest-growing regions.
The David Aldous Young Emerging Leader Award recognises Marilyn Oliver's exceptional leadership in delivering major community facility projects, fostering strong stakeholder partnerships and advocating for the parks and leisure industry. Marilyn's commitment to professional development, equitable access and sustainable service delivery has made a significant contribution to both the community and the broader sector.

I’m incredibly excited to announce that Gledswood Hills High School is open!
The Minns Labor Government is continuing its investment into frontline emergency care for Camden.
After 12 years of delays and broken promises by the former Liberal government, the new temporary high school has been delivered.
While Camden Ambulance Station is undergoing much-needed renovations, our incredible paramedics and ambulance officers are working out of the new temporary ambulance site at Smeaton Grange.
Gledswood Hills High School will be operating out of Gregory Hills Primary School until 2027, when the permanent site for the high school is expected to open.
In March, I visited the new temporary site located in Sedgewick Street, and spoke to our new paramedics, which the Minns Labor Government has funded as part of the Strategic Workforce and Infrastructure Team (SWIFT) program.

Under SWIFT, Camden received 50 new paramedics – a very welcome investment into emergency health care for our growing community.
As a former teacher, I know how important it is to have access to a great education at a local school, and I’m working hard to ensure that every child in our area is able to receive the best schooling experience they can.
A site has been identified for the new ambulance station in Oran Park, with a contractor soon to be appointed to start work.

The Minns Labor Government is getting on with the job of delivering much needed upgrades to 15 schools across Camden.
This new ambulance station will service our suburbs of Gregory Hills, Gledswood Hills, Cobbitty and Harrington Park, taking pressure off the existing services at Camden, and ensuring all Camden residents have access to timely, accessible health care.
These upgrades are part of the Minns Labor Government’s work to rebuild public education in NSW after 12 years of Liberal Government neglect.

Teacher vacancies have been slashed by over 40 percent in NSW public schools.
Tanya Davies MP, Member for Badgerys Creek, has celebrated the completion of new aluminium seating and seat settings across Oran Park High School, courtesy of a $20,505 grant she secured through the Community Building Partnership Program.
This investment in approximately 120 new seats has created formalised open outdoor learning spaces and areas for students to gather and socialise outside of classroom activities. It supports their ability to connect with peers, collaborate informally, and enjoy their break times in safe and structured environments.
When the Minns Labor Government says that we want to ensure every student has access to a world class education, we mean it – and that’s proven right here in Camden.

Mrs Davies recently visited the school to inspect the new seating.

Camden Fire Station is Here to Stay
Camden residents have been assured about the future of Camden Fire Station.
Prior to the Minns Labor Government’s election in 2023, there was no guaranteed security for the future of Camden Fire Station, an integral piece of Camden infrastructure and frontline support.
In 2024, the Minister for Emergency Services Jihad Dib reassured Camden residents that the Minns Labor Government has no plans to close Camden Fire Station or change current staffing arrangements. This has not changed.
Camden Fire Station has received a new pumper – a new primary emergency vehicle that will transport crew, hoses, tools and a built-in water pump to an emergency.
This upgrade is an important investment into the Camden community, helping Camden/s hardworking Camden Fire Brigade to keep Camden’s friends and family safe.
This upgrade comes after a 14 per cent wage increase over three years, backdated to February 2024, as well as the safety net of presumptive cancers which was strengthened last year.
These announcements ensure that individuals who put themselves in harm’s way for the safety of the community are supported in their time of need.
“I know how much Camden Fire station means for our area, employing brave staffers who provide Camden residents with the peace of mind to know there’s a service just around the corner, ready to help if needed.
“These announcements reassure Camden residents that this service is not going anywhere.

Park Smart Across Camden
Camden Council is reminding motorists to take a moment to check parking signs before leaving their vehicle, as part of a renewed campaign encouraging safe, legal parking across the Camden area.
The "Park Smart" campaign aims to educate drivers about common parking rules, helping improve safety, traffic flow and accessibility for everyone using local roads.
The campaign encourages drivers to remember four simple steps before parking:
1. Look for parking signs and understand what they mean;
2. Check the times and restrictions that apply;
3. Park legally and safely within marked parking spaces where required; and
4. A reminder that failure to comply with parking rules may result in a fine.
The educational campaign also explains the meaning of some of the most common parking signs motorists encounter, including:
• No Stopping – vehicles must not stop at any time;
• 2P Parking – vehicles may park for up to two hours during the times shown on the sign;
• Bus Zone – vehicles cannot stop or park at any time; and
• No Parking – drivers may stop for up to two minutes only to drop off or pick up passengers or goods and must remain within three metres of their vehicle.
The campaign also highlights another commonly enforced offence – parking on a path strip or nature strip. Motorists are reminded that vehicles must not park on Council verges or nature strips, as doing so can damage public assets, obstruct pedestrians and create safety hazards.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said understanding parking signage was one of the simplest ways motorists could avoid unnecessary fines while keeping the community safe.
"Parking signs are there to protect everyone who uses our roads, footpaths and public spaces," Cr Fedeli said.
"Whether you're dropping children at school, visiting local shops or attending one of our parks or sporting facilities, taking a few extra seconds to read the signs will help make Camden a better place for everyone.”

Local Singer Finds Country Success
For local country singer-songwriter Carly Mozsny, music has always been part of life. While she describes herself as a "bedroom and shower singer" growing up, it wasn't until high school in 2006 that she found the confidence to perform in front of an audience.
"My dad has always been into music," Carly said. "He actually taught me how to play guitar, then I started learning my favourite songs."
Inspired by artists including Missy Higgins and Powderfinger, Carly soon discovered she had a natural singing ability.
"I started singing along and realised, 'Hey, I'm pretty good at this,'" she laughed.
Her passion for country music was sparked early by Australian country icon Kasey Chambers, whose music was a regular soundtrack in the family home thanks to her mum's CD collection.
Today, Carly is making a name for herself on the Australian country music scene, with the past 12 months proving to be her busiest and most rewarding yet.
She has released three original singles across all major streaming platforms, including her latest track, Kinda Crazy, released in May 2026. The song is a collaboration with fellow artist Cassidy Joan and is one Carly says she's especially proud of.
"It has been my favourite release to date," she said.
Carly has also been building an impressive list of live performances. She recently opened for Australian country star Travis Collins at the Narellan Hotel and has performed at Boots N Beats Camden for two consecutive years.
"That's pretty darn cool," she said.
Looking ahead, Carly is focused on writing new music with the goal of releasing her debut EP next year. Collaborating with other artists is also a key part of her plans as she continues to grow her career.
Despite the milestones, it's the people who make country music special for Carly.
"I love country crowds the most," she said. "It's such a fun, friendly community of people who just love to have a good time."

A love of roller skating that began as a child has come full circle for Macarthur-based coach Candace Featherstone, who is helping people of all ages discover the joy of the sport through her business, 22 Skates.
Candace has spent more than a decade teaching and coaching children and has been coaching roller skating for the past two years. Her own skating journey started when she was about eight years old at the former Campbelltown Roller Rink, where she first fell in love with the sport.
After taking a break during her teenage years, skating reentered her life following a major personal upheaval and the COVID-19 lockdowns.
"Skating found me again and changed my life for the better in so many ways," she said.
Today, Candace is seeing a growing number of adults, particularly women, turning to roller skating as a way to reconnect with themselves, build confidence and enjoy an active lifestyle.
"I love being able to provide that space and energy," she said. 22 Skates currently runs children's learn-to-skate classes on Tuesday evenings and adult classes on Sundays at Mount Annan Leisure Centre, with plans to expand next year through additional class nights, new locations and more programs.
Candace believes roller skating's resurgence reflects a desire for people to disconnect from busy, technology-driven lives and embrace something more authentic.
"Skating is challenging and requires us to be in the here and now," she said.
She also describes roller skating as a sport with something for everyone, whether people prefer to skate indoors or outdoors, socially or competitively, or simply enjoy cruising with friends.
Looking ahead, Candace hopes to introduce more workshops, school holiday activities for children and creative skating programs that will continue to strengthen the local skating community.
Her vision extends beyond teaching skating skills.
"My goal has always been to create more than just skating lessons," she said. "Through 22 Skates, I want to help people of all ages build confidence, make friends and experience the joy of movement."
She is also passionate about growing the sport through the Sydney Rollerskating Club, a not-for-profit organisation that provides skaters with opportunities to connect, practise and become part of a welcoming community.
With participation continuing to grow, Candace is excited to see more people rediscover roller skating across the Macarthur region and beyond.

Baseball Boom Continues at Mets
The Oran Park Mets Baseball Club is preparing for another exciting season, with registrations open ahead of the summer competition beginning on September 4.
Club President Adam Forbes said the Mets are expecting another year of strong growth as more local families discover baseball at the club's purpose-built facility on O'Keefe Drive, next to Burramurra Public School.
"Baseball is a year-round sport," Adam said. "Our senior winter competition runs from April to August, while our summer season for both juniors and seniors starts on September 4 and continues through to the end of March."
The club is aiming to field around 20 junior and senior teams this season, catering for players of all ages – from children as young as 3 through to players aged 81.
Last season saw significant growth in the club's youngest age groups, with four teams of three to five-year-olds taking part in Friday afternoon training sessions before playing on Saturday mornings. The club also celebrated a successful senior campaign in the Macarthur Baseball Competition, with several teams progressing deep into the finals.
Looking ahead, Adam said he was excited to see the club continue strengthening its connection with the local community.
"I am looking forward to seeing the continued engagement with our community, an increase in the number of teams playing in the local competition and seeing our ground full of families from across the Macarthur region," he said.
With its modern facilities now fully operational, the Mets are well positioned to welcome even more players. The club's future plans include expanding the complex with two additional junior fields to accommodate increasing demand for T-Ball, Zooka and junior baseball.
The club's new home reflects a proud history of success. The Mets have long been recognised as one of the Macarthur Baseball League's leading clubs, regularly earning Club of the Year honours while developing players who have progressed to NSW and Australian representative teams.
Over the past six years, former Mets juniors have secured more than $500,000 in American college scholarships. Many are now returning to the club as junior coaches and senior players, helping inspire the next generation of local baseball talent.

Have you lost someone and suffered a deep ache, feelings of sadness, overwhelm, anger, guilt and/or confusion. Grief is the emotional pain we feel when experiencing loss. This pain can feel all encompassing, be exhausting and lead to isolation. Whilst many people believe that grief occurs in specific stages, it is now understood that the experience of grief can be unique to each individual, lasting short periods for some and extending into years for others. There are many emotions that can be part of the grief response, and these emotions can cooccur and come and go throughout the grief journey. Whilst we sometimes minimise the grief response, it is important to understand that grief is the process of facilitating a significant adjustment from having the loved one in your life to them no longer being there. This process more often than not takes time and patience before this adjustment occurs to allow for acceptance. In July, our members swapped books, attended the movies at Narellan Town Centre to see The Sheep Detective, starring Hugh Jackman and numerous sheep, had a Coffee and Chat at Flower Power Mount Annan, and a pub lunch at the Oran Park Hotel.
As a social club for retired and semi-retired members of the community, Probus connects people from all walks of life. New friendships are forged while Probus members benefit from the social, physical, and intellectual activities that Probus clubs offer. Our tour leaders are busy looking at day and overnight tours for later this year and early next year. Our club has a craft group, run by Linda, where you can bring along any craft, as
the person can take off the mask. It is common that we can become preoccupied with thoughts about the final moments of our loved one, suffer guilt regarding our last interactions or whether we were present for their final moments.
