Children + Families Warragamba is set to come alive this October when Dam Fest 2026 brings a weekend of music, markets, entertainment and community spirit to the town. The festivities begin on Saturday, October 17, with the Country Music Muster at Warragamba Football Oval. Starting at 2:00pm, the event will feature live performances from Brock County, Bill Sarina, Missy Lancaster and Jamie Preston. Tickets are $25 per person, plus booking fees, while children under 12 can attend for $15. A family pass for two adults and two children will also be available through TryBooking. Festival organisers are encouraging visitors to check the Dam Fest Facebook page for ticket information. The Country Music Muster will also feature food trucks, market stalls and plenty of opportunities for visitors to enjoy an afternoon of country music and community entertainment. The main Dam Fest celebration will take place on Sunday, October 18, from 10:00am to 4:00pm at Warragamba Recreation Reserve, with free entry for the community. There will be something for everyone, with market stalls, food trucks, trade displays, demonstrations and a full program of entertainment. The Sunday lineup will include Denim Rose, Peter McWhirter, line dancing and a DJ. A highlight of the Sunday program will be the Dam Fest Street Parade, beginning at 12:00pm and will proceed through the township. Community groups, local services, business owners and organisations are being invited to take part and showcase the people and organisations that help make Warragamba a strong, connected and welcoming community. Those wishing to participate must register their interest by emailing damfest@wsnc.org.au or calling 4774 1273. Registrations must be received before October 5 to be included in the October 18 parade. Early risers will also have plenty to see at the annual Swap Meet, with gates opening at 6:00am for swappers and 7:00am for those looking to browse. Swappers can arrive from Saturday afternoon. For information about taking part, contact Denis on 0401 890 261. There will also be a car, bike and truck show on Sunday, in collaboration with Warragamba Cars and Coffee and Cars Under the Stars. All makes and models are welcome. With live music, local stalls, food, demonstrations, a parade and the popular swap meet, Dam Fest 2026 promises a busy weekend celebrating Warragamba and the wider community. Gregory Hills Netball Club Shines

Have you experienced exceptional customer service? Gregory Hills Netball Club is celebrating a successful season, with six teams competing across a range of age groups and divisions and plenty of achievements to be proud of. The club fielded one Net Set Go (NSG) team for players aged five to eight, an Under 10s team, two Grade C teams and two Division 5 teams. Club President Rebecca Venegas Pelegrin said the season had delivered many highlights, with players, coaches, umpires and supporters all contributing to the club’s success. The NSG team enjoyed a fantastic season, finishing first in their competition, while the Under 10s produced an outstanding year by winning their Grand Final. The Grade C team also enjoyed a strong season, finishing runners-up in their Grand Final. The club also celebrated umpires who successfully achieved their Association Badges, adding another achievement to an already memorable season. “As a little club, we are incredibly proud of the big impact we continue to make and the achievements we accomplish together,” Rebecca said. For Rebecca, the season was particularly significant as her first as Club President. “My first season as President has been a very rewarding experience,” she said. “There was certainly a lot to learn, and at times it was challenging, but I really enjoyed the opportunity to support our players, coaches, families and the club as a whole.” She said watching the teams develop, enjoy their netball and achieve strong results had been a highlight, while the experience had also given her a greater appreciation of the work required behind the scenes to keep a sporting club running. The club will officially celebrate its season at its presentation on October 31, from 2pm to 6pm at the Minto Mirage Hotel. Looking ahead to 2027, the club is also excited to announce the Minto Mirage Hotel as its major sponsor. The sponsorship will help Gregory Hills Netball Club purchase new training equipment, supporting coaches to deliver more effective and engaging sessions. From January 2027, the club will also hold regular meat raffles at the Mirage as part of its fundraising efforts. For anyone wanting to make a start on their own, Maddi's advice is refreshingly simple. "Start small," she says. "If you look around your house and think about everything you want to organise, it can quickly become overwhelming. Pick one drawer, cupboard or small area and start there." She also recommends giving everything a designated home and using labels to help the whole household stay on the same page. Importantly, Maddi wants potential clients to know that her approach is entirely judgement-free. "Life gets busy and sometimes things just build up," she says warmly. "You might know you want to make a change but just need someone there to help you get started and work through it with you." At the heart of it, Maddi's philosophy is a practical one. "It's not about having a perfectly tidy home all the time, it's about having simple systems in place that make your home easier to manage and enjoy." Get Ready for the Picton Show

Offside Tag Takes Off Locally

The 2026 Picton Show is set to return to the Picton Showgrounds alongside Victoria Park on Saturday, October 24, and Sunday, October 25, promising a packed weekend of entertainment, competitions and family activities. Presented by the Picton Show Society, the annual community event will open its gates from 6:00am on both days, giving visitors plenty of time to explore everything the show has to offer. A wide variety of attractions will be on offer, including the popular arts and craft pavilion, poultry show and a full program of horse events featuring heavy horses. Visitors can also experience the excitement of a bull ride and finish the day with fireworks. Families will have plenty to see and do throughout the grounds. Carnival rides, sideshows, a petting zoo and pony rides will provide entertainment for younger visitors, while demonstrations of whip cracking, historical machinery, working dogs and sheep shearing will showcase traditional skills and rural life. Other attractions include cow milking and cheese making, volunteer rescue displays and an opportunity to see snakes up close. The Tahmoor Inn bar will provide a place for adults to relax, while the new community stage is set to add another dimension to the weekend’s entertainment. Admission prices will vary between Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, adults aged 16 and over are $20, children aged six to 16 are $15 and pensioners are $10. Family tickets, covering two adults and two children, cost $50. Children aged five and under enter free. Sunday admission is $15 for adults, $10 for children aged six to 16 and $10 for pensioners, with a family pass available for $40. Children aged five and under are again free. Tickets can be purchased at the gate with either EFT or cash. With attractions catering to all ages, the Picton Show is shaping up as a celebration of community, country traditions and family entertainment. The sport is designed to provide an alternative for people who may not participate in traditional rugby league, including women, families, former players and those simply looking for a fun way to exercise. Local organisers Rick and Sally Rye are behind the launch of Offside Tag Camden and Offside Tag Macarthur, with competitions planned across the Camden and Campbelltown areas. “Offside Tag is a game of tag with passing 360 degrees,” Rick said. Teams consist of eight players and play on a field 45 metres wide by 34 metres long. Each team has five plays to score a try, with one point available in the Try Zone and a two-point scoring area within the zone. If a player drops the ball, the team resets from the line where play stopped, with 10 seconds to reset and recommence. The local organisers have already held several “come and try” nights, with two more planned over the next month ahead of a tournament in November. Rick said the sport was created to provide a new pathway into participation while building a strong local sporting community. “Sally and I saw an opportunity to introduce a new sport to the Macarthur region,” he said. “Our vision is to build a strong local competition across Camden and Macarthur, providing regular opportunities for people to participate in a fun, inclusive and affordable sport.” The organisers are also looking to grow both junior and senior participation as the sport establishes itself in the region. Western Sydney International Welcomes Trial Passengers and Jetstar Trial Flight Ahead of Airport Launch

Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSI) has welcomed a Jetstar trial flight – an A320 passenger jet – for the first time alongside hundreds of trial passengers as it ramps up the final phase of its Operational Readiness Program ahead of commercial passenger services taking off from October 25. The passenger trials involve members of the public participating as volunteers, helping WSI and its partners to trial all stages of the terminal customer journey and associated services, systems and staff, as well as providing valuable feedback that can help enhance the overall airport experience. The program simulates a genuine journey with trial passengers allocated domestic and international flights, “checking in” for their flight, moving through WSI’s efficient security screening, and engaging with different airport facilities and staff as they would on any given travel day. WSI Chief Operating Officer Matt Duffy said this exciting final phase of WSI’s operational preparations had been underway since August and involved hundreds of trial participants taking part each week. “By October, we anticipate that thousands of participants will have engaged in our trial program - each one of them playing an important role in stress-testing our systems, processes and people. We’re aiming to make these various elements to be as ‘fail safe’ as they can be,” he said. “This is also about giving us as much experience as possible in navigating the inherently dynamic nature of round-theclock airport operations. It’s a unique and positive opportunity we’re able to leverage as Australia’s first major international greenfield airport in more than 50 years. “The interest from volunteers within the community for the trials was overwhelming - thousands of trial slots were filled within days. We’re very grateful for the enthusiasm and support from the participants who are taking part each week in the lead up to our passenger services taking off in October.”

Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King said the trial flight was an important test to ensure that Western Sydney’s International Airport is ready to go on day one. “We’ve had a firefighting tanker and hundreds of freight flights take off and land at Western Sydney International,” Minister King said. “Now for the first time, a Jetstar passenger plane has come into land at the new airport.” “The airline and airport crews have tested systems like aerobridges, refuelling, baggage services and more, 54 days ahead of Jetstar’s inaugural flight to the Gold Coast.” Jetstar Chief Pilot Tyrone Simes said flying the first service into a brand new airport is a once in a career moment. “Australia hasn’t opened a major new airport like this in more than 50 years, so this morning was a genuinely exciting milestone for me and the team,” he said. “We’re doing this eight weeks out from the first flight deliberately. It gives us time to take what we learned and build it into our procedures and crew briefings, ensuring everything is fully tested and refined well ahead of launch. “The flight was about getting to know the airport before we carry customers. Crew flew the arrival and departure exactly as they will in October, then worked through the ground side of the operation: the taxi route to the gate, lining up on the aerobridge, and the turnaround that gets the aircraft back out again. “By the time we carry our first customers from Western Sydney, every element of this operation will be familiar to us and we can’t wait to share that first flight with them.” Trial participants simulate both domestic and international arrivals and departures as part of WSI’s ongoing program. They use self-check in and bag drop facilities, and WSI’s modern security screening which includes extra-long lanes, additional body scanners and central image processing to review multiple trays at a time and facilitate efficient processing. Officers from the Australian Border Force (ABF) and Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fishers (DAFF) also take part in the trials, reinforcing their integral role in the international arrivals process and border security. Camden’s Water Play Spaces Return for Another Season of Summer Fun

Camden’s two popular water play spaces have reopened, giving locals plenty of opportunities to cool off, splash around and enjoy the warmer weather. Dawson-Damer Water Play Space in Oran Park and Curry Reserve Water Play Space in Elderslie opened on Saturday 26 September 2026 and remain open until Sunday 25 April 2027.

Located at the corner of Dick Johnson Drive and O’Toole Avenue, Dawson-Damer Park is one of the Macarthur region’s largest water play space, featuring water slides, water spinners and a range of other water-based activities. The wider 2.5-hectare park also includes a Ninja Warrior-inspired course, swings, trampolines, basketball facilities, picnic areas and more. Curry Reserve Water Play Space, located on Camden Valley Way in Elderslie, features a large splash pad with 36 play features, providing inclusive and accessible fun for children of all ages. The reserve also offers picnic shelters, barbecue facilities, children’s play equipment, parking and a cycle path. Both water play spaces are accessible and inclusive, with wet play wheelchairs available for hire to help children and people living with disability enjoy the water play areas. Both facilities also feature accredited Changing Places facilities with specialised amenities for people with high support needs and their carers. Mayor of Camden, Cr Vince Ferreri, said the reopening of the water play spaces was a highlight for local families. “It’s terrific to be able to escape the heat and enjoy some water play close to home at our Dawson Damer and Curry Reserve Water Play Spaces,” he said. “I think everyone is ready for more sunshine and excited to enjoy the beautiful spring and summer months coming up!” Both facilities will operate daily from 10:00am to 7:00pm throughout the season. Mental Health Month: The Importance of Seeking Psychological Health October is Mental Health Month, and this year the theme is “Taking Steps on Your Wellbeing Journey.” The theme helps us to recognise that wellbeing is a continuous journey. This month asks us to pay attention to our own journey towards well-being, as well as raising awareness about mental health issues and the importance of seeking help. It’s important to realise that if you are struggling with your psychological health, you are not alone and there is help available. According to the 2020–2022 National Study of Mental Health and Wellbeing (NSMHW), depression and mood disorders affect 1.5 million Australians. The World Health Organization identifies depression as the leading cause of disability worldwide. Approximately 1 in 5 Australians aged 16–85 and 1 in 7 children and adolescents aged between 4 and 17 years experience a mental disorder in any given year, according to the NSMHW. If you notice a friend or family member struggling, don’t

hesitate to ask if they are okay. Encouraging open conversations about mental health can make a significant difference. If you experience symptoms that impact your ability to function at home, at work, or within relationships, consider discussing them with your GP. Mental Health Month NSW serves as a reminder that mental health is just as important as physical health. Seeking professional psychological treatment can lead to better management of symptoms and improved functioning. Behaviour Changer – How to Seek Help • Remember that mental health difficulties are experienced by so many, and asking for help is important, so don’t delay. • Don’t be afraid to ask, “Are you okay?” This question can save a life. • See your GP to discuss your symptoms and whether a Mental Health Care Plan to attend a treating psychologist would be suitable.
