Wallacia’s Fundraising Firies
On Saturday 14th October, five members of the Wallacia Rural Fire Brigade participated in the Fire Fighters Climb for Motor Neurone Disease in Sydney. The team, comprised of Jody Preston (Team Leader), David Bartlett, Justin Donohoe, Matthew SwainBarber and Scott Bulmer, climbed 1504 stairs (98 floors) up the iconic Sydney Tower Eye. And if that many stairs do not sound gruelling enough - they each had to carry twenty kilograms of gear as they did it. According to Captain Jody Preston, though, “this is nothing in comparison to the challenge patients with MND face every day”. Motor neurone disease (MND) is also called amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) as well as Lou Gehrig’s disease. MND is a fast developing, neurological disease. MND frequently starts with weakness of the muscles in the hands, feet or voice.
