Christmas is nearly here and the shops, TV advertising and piles and piles of junk mail filling up our letter boxes, are all busy telling us what we need this Christmas. But have you ever stopped to think what it is that you really need? Christmas is the time of year where God, in a most extraordinary way, answers this all important question for us...Jesus is born into our world. When Jesus is born, a massive crowd of angels announced his birth with this dramatic statement; “I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.” This brilliant declaration reveals that we all need saving. We all need our relationship with God put right. I feel sorry for people who have no goals. Those who make no plans. Those who don’t think before the weekend begins about what they will do that weekend. This last month of the year is just beginning. Don’t write off the year too early. Make some plans. Ask God for some direction. Make a plan to attend a church and pray to God in the company of others who are seeking inspiration and guidance. Sit with fellow travelers on this journey through life but don’t just be passive! Have some dreams. Set yourself some goals. Plan to achieve something. We have a Mass every night at 9pm from the 16th December until Christmas Eve. It’s called a Novena (meaning nine) of Masses to enable us to give a gift to God for the Birthday of His Son. But it’s also an opportunity for us to make some special time for ourselves to pray and listen to what God has to say to us. May you have a blessed Christmas and holiday time with those you love.

New multipurpose hall for Bethany After a number of years of fundraising for a school hall the wait is finally over for Bethany Catholic Primary School. Federal Member for Lindsay, David Bradbury joined students, teachers and parents this week at the official opening of the school’s new multi-purpose hall which was built as part of the Australian Government’s Building the Education Revolution. Bethany Catholic Primary School received more than $2.9 million under the Gillard Government’s Primary Schools for the 21st Century program to construct their recently completed multi-purpose hall. The school also received $200,000 under the Government’s National School Pride program for the refurbishment of classrooms, the school’s PA system and school grounds. They also constructed a storage shed and purchased new information and communication technology equipment. “During my time as the Federal Member, I have seen how hard the Bethany Catholic Primary School community has worked to raise funds for a hall and I am pleased that the Gov-
ernment has been able to bring this tremendous new facility to fruition,” Mr Bradbury said. “Not only is this school project beneficial to the education of current and future students of Bethany Catholic Primary School, it also supported more than 50 local jobs during the largest financial downturn since the great depression. “I would like to congratulate the Principal, Mr Ted Langford, the school’s P&F, the teachers, students, parents, the builders and the wider school community for all their efforts and co-operation while work was being carried out on these new facilities. “I’m very excited that we finally have our new hall. Local Author Glenmore Park’s Trudie Collins is an IT Professional with a major bank and in her spare time has been working on a series of fantasy novels called “Tor’s Quest”. She wrote the first one four years ago while travelling to and from the city by train. She found a little extra time to write during her son’s gym and Karate lessons. He started at Hurlstone Agricultural Selective High School as a boarder this year so she now has time to write in the evenings instead, though her weekends are taken up with the mountains of washing he brings home with him (and the occasional friend). Each book took roughly 7 months to write, with all the editing and proof reading taking another 3 months. Deciding to self-publish, Trudie came across CreateSpace, Amazon’s self-publishing company. Unlike most publishing companies, CreateSpace prints on demand. This means the author does not have the initial financial outlay of printing copies upfront and having to find storage for them while trying to find buyers. The other advantages are that the book can easily be made available in a downloadable version for Kindle and is automatically available on European versions of Amazon as well as the US one. Book one “The Guide” has been recently published in
both printed (only $15 US + shipping) and e-book (only $6.99 US) versions. Filled with strange characters and mystical creatures, it follows Prince Tor and his friends as they solve puzzles and find clues in order to become the first to complete the quest for the throne. The series is aimed at adults and mature teenagers who enjoy reading fantasy Books 2, 3 and 4 will be published early next year. Plea to SLOW DOWN and watch for animals in the road
A resident of Huntingdale Drive in Glenmore Park has been very distressd about the family cat being run over by a car. The cat managed to drag herself from the road up the driveway and was taken to an emergency vet at 10pm that night but the prognosis was not good. She was put on a drip, and given pain medication overnight to see if there was any improvement by the morning but unfortunately there wasn’t, and regretfully she had to be put down. Her owner said “This has been extremely upsetting to see my poor defenseless cat go through all of this pain which eventually led to her death. It makes me sick to my stomach that someone could not only run over someone’s pet, but then not even stop, they just left her there to die.” With the holiday season approaching people need to slow down on the roads especially in Glenmore Park where there are children and animals around that could run out on the road.

Orchard Hills Veterinary Hospital 4736 2027 Merry Christmas! Staff Christmas Party
Wow, how fast does the time go, it is Christmas time already. We had our work Christmas Party at the end of November, and we had a great time. Just like last year we spent the whole day at the Hopewood Health Centre at Wallacia. We enjoyed all of Hopewood’s facilities, including meditation and relaxation classes, aquaerobics, tennis courts and the gym. We also thoroughly enjoyed a 1 hour relaxing facial and massage. We then enjoyed a wonderful smorgasboard lunch and spent quality time hanging out with other and the new staff. We then gave out our Secret Santa Christmas presents, and by a method of deduction we worked out who gave who which present.
Santa Photos With Your Pets Santa Claus will be visiting Orchard Hills Veterinary Hospital during December to take photos with your pets. Santa will be here from Thursday
1st December until Friday 23rd December 2011. Photos of your pets are to be taken with Santa from Monday to Friday 5-6pm and on Saturdays 10am-12pm. No appointment is necessary for the Santa photos, just drop in and don’t forget to bring your camera if you want extra photos. A gold coin donation to the Guide Dogs for your photo in a Christmas card will be greatly appreciated.
New Staff Erin – Veterinarian I am the new veterinarian at Orchard Hills Veterinary Hospital. Camille has done such a fantastic job of growing the business that we now need 2 full time vets to see everyone. I have worked on variety of animals including horses and koalas but my great passion is companion animals. I have 3 beautiful cats and I am looking for a new canine addition after the loss of my dear old German Shepherd last year. I look forward to seeing you and your furry family members. Erica - Nurse I will be taking over from Carly while she is on maternity leave. I have been a veterinary nurse for 24
years so as you can tell it’s a real passion of mine. I am also in the process of completing a certificate IV in Training and Assessment which will give me a qualification as a TAFE teacher where I will be able to teach veterinary nurse trainees for their Veterinary Nurse Certificate. Melanie - Nurse I am taking over from Belinda whilst she is on maternity leave. I have been nursing for 15 years. I have a menagerie of pets, including 4 cats, 2 dogs, 2 budgies, a husband and a 2 year old girl. My interests include surgery and wildlife, and I have a very warped sense of humour.
