WINTERFEST 2017

By Sarah Belisle The sun was shining again for another well attended Winterfest collaboratively hosted by the Richer Daycare and Richer Community Club for its 8th consecutive year. Special guests Shrek and Princess Fiona interacted with the kids, along with face painting, coin scramble, candy toss, hills to play on, sleigh rides, music and a big bon fire to gather around. The skating rink ice didn’t hold out to the strong sun but kids were still able to play around on it. There were also free refreshments and hot dogs which you could have barbecued or roast

your own over the fire. Thank you to all the volunteers who put in so much time and effort for this event. Many hours were spent trying to flood the rink for the event and it took extra effort to bring the sleighs in for the rides this year due to so much of the snow melted in previous weeks. The horses worked hard pulling the sleighs through the frozen crusted snow - and everyone was so thankful for the many rides.

The entire event, activities and food were FREE and was made possible thanks to the many donations some including Caisse Financial Group, Weston Bakery, One One Consultants Inc, Maple Leaf Foods as well as the donated bales, sleigh rides and music.

Johnny Cash Lyrics... a Message to Richer Fireside Youth Surprisingly, as I held up the 1968 Folsom Prison Blues LP, most of the Youth knew the face of the “Man in Black,” Johnny Cash. Doing real time for crime was the focus of our lesson and that jail could be the end result of making wrong choices like lying to parents. Owl eyed teens learned that the death sentence was the sad end for 93 men condemned to death and executed over the years at Folsom Maximum Security Prison in California, where the smells and sounds of a dank prison, and barks of orders from a warden who treats you as a non-person is their “real world.” Although Cash was never in Folsom as a prisoner, he was in various jails 7 times for misdemeanours and during his time behind bars could identify with the convicts at Folsom, “…the clanging of the cell door behind you, life outside, immediately becomes unreal. You begin to not care that it exists. All you have is your bare animal instincts…locked out of “Society” you’re the object of a widely designed planned program, combining isolation, punishment, training , briefing to make you sorry for your mistakes... “Does it work? No!” Trying to “make” kids sorry for their mistakes doesn’t work either. As leaders we try to teach the Youth how to think ahead, that they can “get it right” and the results of wrong choices like lying,

stealing and vandalism will ultimately lead to failure in life-even jail time. Jesus said, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” John 10:10. Johnny Cash gave his life to Jesus Christ because he was sorry for his mistakes, only then was he truly a “free man.” Youth 12-17 yrs. will meet on Friday March 17 at the Richer School Gym from 7 - 9pm. There is no cost but parents must register their Youth. For more info please contact Michelle Driedger at 204-424-5216 or email richerfiresideyouth@ gmail.com.

It is Richer Fellowship Church. always about next things. When we look at our faith journey is it always about looking for new things or next things? As a believer however, I need to hold onto old things such as the Jesus story. Life as such, is not about us, life is first about Jesus and then find our life in the story of Jesus. It is not about our experience, but about God’s word living and active in our life. Life is about seeing ourselves in the Biblical story. The joy is; God’s plan includes us. We find our lives in Jesus and His story, His story relates to and with us. As you have read this we would like to invite you to join us each Sunday morning and see how this old story of Jesus fits into our lives at Richer Fellowship Church and how it might fit into your
