Uncork & Unwind at

von Steihl Winery

As the oldest licensed winery in the state, von Stiehl began in the 1960s producing the first wines from Door County fruit. The original owner, Doctor Charles Stiehl, passed the torch to William and Sandra Schmiling in 1981. That was the year the winery’s current head winemaker first showed up to work. At the ripe old age of 7, Aric’s father handed him a green Brillo pad and cup of sanitizer. Into the wine tank he went where he learned his first important lesson in winemaking: sanitization. That is why 45 years later, Aric and his production team prioritize cleanliness. In his words, “the cleaner the facility the cleaner the wine.”

Aric’s brother and co-owner Brad oversees the business and a team of 20 employees in areas of retail, wholesale, and marketing. Brad’s take on a successful business has little to do with himself but the group of great workers who call von Stiehl their home. “I’ll put our team up against any winery in the country,” says Brad. “Their combination of expertise and kindness is amazing, and in their hearts is the desire to take care of our customers and each other. This is why we average 4.7 stars on Google, Yelp, and Tripadvisor.”

including Teraldego, Mourvedre and Nebbiolo. A new release of Marquette Port from their vineyard in Door County is being offered as well. After the installation of a new 300-gallon copper pot still, Gin, Vodka, Cherry Gin, and Cherry Vodka were released early this year.

Guests are encouraged to tour the 10,000 s.f. production facility and learn about their green practices through modern winemaking equipment. The tour also visits the winery’s original limestone tunnels to showcase their red wine barrel aging program.

What’s new? New labels include Naughty Girl Rosé and White, and experimental batches from west coast grapes

Von Stiehl added a cider and cocktail bar in a two-stall garage next to the tasting room in 2023. Both properties have access to a terrace that overlooks Lake Michigan and a stage where live music is performed every weekend from mid-May to mid-October.

What truly sets von Stiehl apart? While the brothers aim to bring unique drink offerings, the von Stiehl team strives to bring an experience that everybody wants.

Take a drive down the road less traveled to von Stiehl in Algoma. It’s open 7 days a week and is a short 35-minute drive from Green Bay. Visit vonStiehl.com to learn more.

If you chose mostly As, your guide is... Jordan!

Great food, live music, the best brunch spots, to-die-for craft cocktails, local brews (coffee and beer), and, most importantly, good times with good people. A Green Bay resident for 34 years, Jordan knows the city’s food and bar scene like no one else. If you consider yourself a bit of a foodie or love discovering local hangouts, Jordan’s your guy.

Check out Jordan’s top picks for where to eat, sip, and soak in the Green Bay vibe:

“Let’s start with breakfast. Nothing beats a quality diner experience, so for the best breakfast, head to Bay Family Restaurant. Pull up to the bar and enjoy buckets of hot coffee with a sticky bun. Order corned beef hash and hash browns, add onions/cheese, EXTRA well done (like a shingle), with some runny eggs. If you want something more casual, visit Voyageur Bakehouse for a morning coffee and pastry.

For lunch, Cheesesteak Rebellion! Are you a fan of Star Wars? Do you like carefully cooked rib-eye smothered in cheese? PERFECT. Whatever the special steak and fry of the day is, just get that! Want something simple but equally delicious? Traditional wit whizz and the tator tots (best tots in town).

Favorite dinner is hands down Bleu. Not only do they have some of the best bartenders in and around the city, but anything that sounds good to you from the menu will be as good as you hope it to be. I had a sandwich from them 2 years ago that I still think about…If you’re going for a date, there is a lovely walking path next to it that leads to a nearby park!

Looking for a good happy hour? Stella’s! Cheap happy hour cocktails and wine with a stack of fries on the side. Pretty tough to beat!

Where’s a place that captures Green Bay’s vibes? Cocoon Brewing always has something going on that gives a sense of ‘community.’ Pub trivia, pop-up markets, live music, or just busy with families trying to relax and play with their loved ones!

And lastly, don’t miss these hidden gems. First, Pink Guava! What’s more enchanting on a hot summer day than a walkup only window that hands you lemonade/boba, THE BEST pork or chicken egg rolls, and a spicy Korean corn dog? Second, Paradise North Distillery! Not only is their property right on the water and a beautiful place for a sunset, but the rum they make is good enough to sip on neat. It’s such a relaxing place to sit and unwind. They regularly have amazing musical guests as well!”

If you picked mostly B’s, your tour guide is…Cha!

If your perfect day involves calm waters, early mornings, and the thrill of a good catch, you’re in the right place. Green Bay local Cha, a lifelong fisherman and resident for over 40 years, knows every hidden fishing spot worth dropping a line. Whether you’re a seasoned angler or just love the peace of the outdoors, Cha’s your go-to guide for experiencing Green Bay’s waters at their best.

“Start with my favorite places to fish—the bay! Since the zebra mussels and gobies invaded Lake Michigan, it cleared up the water, and the gobies became a huge food supply for all the species of fish in this area. Not only are there more fish, but the sizes got bigger too. Another great place to fish is the Fox River, year-round, but especially in the spring. It holds lots of different species of fish. Lots of fish to catch and see!

One thing all visitors should experience is the Spring walleye run! To be able to catch lots of walleyes in a single day is unheard of. Most people have to go to Canada for this experience. We have it in our own backyard. During this time of the year, if you’re persistent enough, you can catch multiple walleyes over 30 inches!

Besides fishing, visitors should check out the Green Bay Packers Stadium and stores. Green Bay has such a unique football history! There are also many hidden gems. Lots of markets and small local shops around the city to check out. Visitors should drive down University Avenue and visit all the Hispanic Shops there. They can swing by one of the Asian markets too!

If you picked mostly C’s, your tour guide is…Devon!

If you’re always up for an adventure, Devon’s your match. From the coolest spots to hang with friends or explore the great outdoors to hidden gems around the city, Devon knows how to make the most of every day in Green Bay. Whether it’s climbing, hiking, or finding a new favorite spot, count on Devon to keep the energy high and the plans exciting.

“My ultimate day in Green Bay would start out with climbing at Odyssey Climbing & Fitness, then getting breakfast at Voyageurs Bakehouse downtown. Afterwards, maybe a round of disc golf at the course at UW-Green Bay, followed by some pre-dinner beers at Cocoon Brewing. For dinner,

I’d go to 1919 in the stadium, plus don’t forget to check out the stadium afterwards! After dinner, head over to Midwest Super Speedway go-kart track and do a couple of races, then head next door to finish the night at Badger State Brewing.

RESULTS

As for outdoor activities, Green Bay has tons to do outside all year round, as long as you don’t mind the cold. From anything on the water, to mountain bike trails, cross country skiing in the winter, and the Fox River trail is awesome at any time of year. Some friends and I even do night bike rides around the city, from downtown to the Titletown District to Baird Creek and everything in between.

Hidden gems? Fonferek Glen Park is very pretty and a fun place to check out. For fueling up, Coffee Wizardz for coffee, the Booyah Shed for food, and the Rabbit Hole or Prohibition for a more chill nighttime bar. And don’t forget to check out the Titletown District. There’s a lot to do there. And lastly, if you have the chance, tailgate a Packers game!”

If you picked mostly D’s, your tour guide is…Christine!

If you’ve got kiddos in tow, Christine’s your go-to guide for family fun in Green Bay. As a mom of young kids, she knows all the best places to play, learn, and make memories together. Whether it’s an afternoon at the park, a day of discovery, or a sweet treat stop, Christine’s got the perfect plan for your family-friendly adventure.

“If I had to plan a day in Green Bay for a family like mine, there are so many places I’d take them! Saturday morning options include: Brown County Library (East is our favorite), Voyageurs Bakehouse, YMCA swimming on the East Side, and YMCA Treehouse downtown. For the afternoons, try Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary, hiking at Baird Creek, playing and doing activities at Titletown, exploring Lambeau, and toddler time at Get Air trampoline park.

Kids getting hungry? Our favorite place for a family-friendly food experience is The Pancake Place and Toast for breakfast, and the Village Grille for lunch or dinner.

If you’re here in different seasons, there are also a ton of great seasonal things for kids. In the summer, go to a splash pad. They are all over the city and at the Green Bay Botanical Garden. Or do a nice summer hike at Fonferek Glen or Baird Creek. In the fall, head to a pumpkin patch—our favorite is Berryland in Abrams—or apple orchard. And in winter, walk along the river downtown and look at all the lights, go to the Green Bay Botanical Garden’s light show, and the Festival of Lights at Lambeau.

Need to run some energy out? There are tons of parks in Green Bay, and we go to a LOT of playgrounds. My favorite for toddlers are Bay Beach, Optimist Park in Allouez, Voyageur Park in De Pere, and Smith Park in Ashwaubenon.”

As the sun dips low, grab a pic of the city lights reflected across the river and hit share.

Broadway District

If you love color, the Broadway District is your photo playground. Green Bay’s public art scene shines here, with murals splashed across nearly every block. Pose with your wings in front of the everpopular, dreamy Butterfly Mural (Milkweed Dreams), stand tall beside the bold DREAM mural, or inspire your followers in front of the “LET US LOVE ONE ANOTHER” wall. Each mural tells its own story and you’ll leave with a feed full of vibrant memories.

The Automobile Gallery

Outside the Neville Public Museum

Before you even walk into the Neville Public Museum, you’ll find some of the city’s quirkiest photo ops. Meet Mama and Baby Bones, the museum’s resident T. rex skeletons, and Tundra, the seven-foot, 750-pound woolly mammoth sculpture standing guard nearby. Turn around and you’ll have the Fox River as your backdrop, and, if you time it right, you might even catch a barge cruising through for a true Green Bay moment.

The overlook offers an easy-access photo spot, or you can explore the trails for more angles of this stunning geological wonder.

Garden of Lights

If you’re visiting in winter, don’t miss the pure magic of the Garden of Lights at the Green Bay Botanical Garden. With over 350,000 lights across 40 dazzling displays, this event transforms the gardens into a twinkling wonderland. Snap a romantic couple's shot in the Tunnel of Lights and go old-school with a horse-drawn wagon ride through the glow. You’ll leave with enough sparkle for your entire December grid.

Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary

Before you go, don’t forget to channel your inner Marty McFly and sit in the driver’s seat of a 1981 DeLorean DMC12, the iconic car-star of Back to the Future.

The Big Wheel at Bay Beach

For unbeatable views (and just 75 cents a ride!), hop aboard The Big Wheel at Bay Beach Amusement Park. At 100 feet tall, it offers breathtaking views of the bay and the greenery across the park. Take a wide shot from the top, a smiling selfie in the Ferris wheel seat, or a reel of your ride as the park spins beneath you.

Need a dose of adorable for your feed? Stop into Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary, where cats with special needs and disabilities rule the roost. Cuddle up with the kitties, snap a few shots of those sweet toe beans, and share some love while supporting a great cause. The sanctuary’s mission is all about giving every pet the best possible life, and we promise, your followers will melt when they see these furry models.

At 30,000 square feet, this is Green Bay’s largest waterpark and a guaranteed hit. Slide down Moosejaw Mountain, rocket through the Alaskan Pipeline, or float the lazy river. When fingers get pruney, dry off in the Gold Rush Arcade and try your luck at one of 70+ games.

Three Artists to Know in Green Bay

There’s something special about the art scene in Green Bay. From gallery walls to public murals and community studios, local artists are transforming everyday materials into one-of-a-kind creations. Meet a few of the makers shaping our creative community!

Carrie Dorski

Local artist Carrie Dorski has been creating for as long as she can remember. “I was that kid making art before I could walk,” she laughs. Today, she channels that same energy into her mixed media paintings, combining textiles, found objects, and paint to create richly layered works full of color, story, and texture.

Carrie loves exploring the space where craft meets fine art. “Things like knitting and sewing have often been undervalued in the art world because they were seen as women’s work,” she says. “By utilizing fabric, lace, and yarn, I’m celebrating a creative history that has been overlooked.” Many of her materials come from estate sales, giving each piece an added layer of nostalgia. “Someone once recognized the bedsheets they had as a teenager in one of my pieces. It created an instant connection!”

Deeply rooted in Green Bay’s creative community, Carrie helped build a new artist directory through Arts & Culture Brown County to make it easier for people to find and support local talent. She’s also collaborating with fellow

makers to launch a co-op studio where visitors can discover and purchase locally made art. Alongside her own studio work, she manages the NWTC Artisan Center and serves as chair of the ArtFest Green Bay art fair. You can see her work at carriedorski.com and in the Art Garage gift shop.

Mitch Wachtendonk

Sneaker boxes aren’t trash to Green Bay artist Mitch Wachtendonk, they’re treasure. He meticulously transforms them into intricate hand-cut collages that celebrate sneaker culture and urban design. His signature “kicks media” style (his take on the term “mixed media”) turns something relatively ordinary into something unforgettable. Growing up, he was obsessed with shoes. He worked in several shoe stores and dreamed of one day designing for Nike. Instead, he ended up finding his own lane in the art world. “I’m not traditionally trained, so I had to learn to break my own rules,” he says. Each piece takes him approximately 40 to 50 hours to complete, as he plans, cuts, and layers everything by hand.

For Scott Hill, creativity is both a calling and a connection to his culture. A member of the Oneida Nation, Scott began his artistic journey at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, where he was inspired by how other Native artists wove their heritage into their work. “Seeing them incorporate their culture made me want to learn more about my own and express it through art.”

His work spans painting, stone carving, jewelry, pottery, tattoo design, and mixed media—each medium reflecting both his spiritual beliefs and the beauty of the natural world around him. “I’ll just get in the car and drive until I get lost,” he says. “Everywhere you go there are forests, lakes, waterfalls… it’s as beautiful as anywhere else in the country.”

Now celebrating 35 years as a full-time artist, Scott has seen Green Bay’s creative community flourish. “People used to say you couldn’t make it as an artist, but that’s changing,” he says. “There’s so much more happening here than there used to be.” For him, creating art is sacred work. “Art is a gift from the Creator,” he says. “It’s not a hobby. It’s something I use to help heal and inspire others.”

Visitors can see one of Scott’s largescale sculptures at the new Oneida Museum, opening in 2026, or view more of his work and request commissions on his Facebook page.

“You can spend over $100 just for an empty shoe box online,” Mitch says. “Luckily, people from all over the world send me their boxes to use for my art.”

Mitch often works in themed series, like his recent Hypebeast Collection. His downtown Green Bay studio, located in the Bellin Building, is open by appointment for anyone who wants to get a peek behind the scenes. You can also see his work online at mawdoods.com.

Casting a Line in Greater Green Bay

Fishing in Greater Green Bay is more than just a pastime; it’s part of the culture. Whether you’re learning how to cast for the first time, gathering the family for a day by the water, or chasing that trophy catch, there are countless ways to enjoy this timeless tradition. With access to rivers, lakes, and the waters of Green Bay itself, anglers of every level can find a spot that feels just right.

Beginner-Friendly Fishing

If you’re just starting out, bobber fishing is a classic way to ease into the sport. All you need is a plastic bobber, a worm, and a little patience. This setup is perfect for catching panfish like bluegill, sunfish, perch, crappie, or bass. Some of the best places to cast your line are right off the pier, at Voyageur Park, Leicht Park, or the newly redeveloped Shipyard District downtown Green Bay. Lilly Lake also offers an easygoing setting, while kayaking with Suamico Paddle gives beginners a fun way to try fishing from the water. For those who want to stock up on gear, local staples like Fleet Farm, Smokey’s on the Bay, and Bass Pro Shops have everything you’ll need.

Family Fishing

Fishing is a tradition best shared, and Greater Green Bay has plenty of spots that make it easy to bring the whole crew. Accessible piers and family-friendly charters make group outings simple, and bobber fishing is always a safe bet for kids. For something extra memorable, families often try ice fishing in the winter. It’s a hands-on experience: drilling through the ice with an auger, setting up tip-ups, and watching the flag pop when a fish bites. Locals will joke

that you have to “trip your buddy on the way” to the tip-up; it’s all part of the fun. Ice fishing here is a chance to reel in walleye, northern pike, whitefish, and the same panfish you’ll find in summer. Brave anglers head to the Fox River once the ice is thick, while others set up at Lilly Lake, Duck Creek, Bayshore Park, or Dead Horse Bay. If you’re new to it, Allen’s Guide Service offers ice fishing trips that make the whole experience approachable and exciting.

Sport & Trophy Fishing

For serious anglers, Green Bay is legendary. Musky fishing is considered the ultimate challenge, often called the ‘fish of 10,000 casts.’ These powerful freshwater giants can stretch more than 50 inches, and catching one is a bucket-list moment. Using extra-heavy rods and lures like bucktails, jerk baits, or crankbaits, musky chasers head out into the Bay in spring or fall when the conditions are just right.

Walleye fishing is another highlight in our region. In spring, you’ll find them running up the Fox River; just follow the boats launching from Fox Point and heading toward the dam. Casting, jigging, or trolling all work, but boats make it easier to cover ground. As the weather warms, Metro Boat Launch becomes a hub for summer fishing, with anglers heading out into the Bay for walleye, musky, and more.

And if you’re looking for something completely different, Lake Michigan’s salmon fishing scene is only a short drive away in Algoma. Charter services like Haasch Guide Service specialize in catching everything from king and coho salmon to brown and rainbow trout. Trolling is the name of the game here, and trips often run late spring through summer, when the big fish are active.

Unique & Adventure Fishing

Fishing in Greater Green Bay doesn’t have to follow the usual script. Some anglers set up overnight in cozy ice shanties, while others head out for late-night walleye fishing on the Bay. Fly fishing and catfishing on the Fox River offer their own unique twists, sometimes with nothing more than a hook and corn to tempt the fish. For those who want to build a fishing trip into a full getaway, places like At the Water’s Edge in Algoma make for a perfect home base. Just don’t forget your Wisconsin DNR fishing license (dnr.wisconsin.gov) before you cast a line!

Reel in the Experience

From first casts to trophy catches, fishing in Greater Green Bay offers something for everyone. It’s a pastime that brings people together, gets you outdoors, and connects you to the waterways that define this area. So grab your rod, pack your tackle box, and get ready to make memories. The fish are waiting!

Treasure Hunting in Titletown

If you love the thrill of the hunt, Green Bay’s thrift and antique scene is going to be right up your alley. These local shops are packed with treasures from decades past, from retro tees and vinyl records to midcentury furniture and hard-to-find Packers memorabilia. Exploring Green Bay’s vintage and thrift shops is the perfect way to uncover some of the city’s history, and maybe take a little piece of it home with you!

Wonderland Vintage instagram.com/wonderlandvintagegb 1712 Velp Avenue

For Shaun and Kate Dolan, opening Wonderland Vintage was about creating the vintage haven of their dreams right here in their own backyard.

“We were both born and raised here,” says Kate. “For years, we would take day trips out of town on the weekends to shop for vintage and antiques. When the time was right, we took a leap from our careers and opened our own store right here in Green Bay.”

If you’ve never visited Wonderland Vintage, it’s set up like a modern-day antique mall. It’s stylish, curated, and definitely full of character. The store is designed to help visitors slow down and rediscover little bits of nostalgia in every corner.

Manana Vintage instagram.com/mananavintage 143 North Broadway Stepping into Mañana Vintage feels like you’ve been transported to a space where the ‘80s and ‘90s never went out of style. Owners Al and Alex carefully curate everything, but you’ll almost always find a great selection of band tees, retro denim jackets, and Packers gear from the team’s various eras. Each piece tells a story.

“There’s nothing better than seeing someone discover something that reminds them of a special time from their past. Those stories are what make what we do so meaningful.”

—Kate, Wonderland Vintage

And yes, Packers fans, you’re in luck. Among their rotating collection of vintage finds, Packers gear is always a highlight.

When we asked them what iconic gameday item they remember most from their collection, they said it was a 1960s wool Pendleton stadium blanket. You just never know what you’re going to find, so it’s worth a visit while you’re here!

TennPack Throwbacks instagram.com/tennpack 2039 Holmgren Way

If Wonderland Vintage is themed around the idea of nostalgia, TennPack Throwbacks is all about high-energy fun. Located in the Stadium District, owner Sterling Thayse has built a hangout for diehard vintage lovers and Packers fans alike.

“I wanted it to be more than a shop,” he says. “I wanted it to be a hub for people who love vintage… somewhere you can play video games, talk shop, and build your community.”

While TennPack has an entire room dedicated to Green Bay Packers items, the rest of the store is packed with Harley tees, NASCAR jackets, Disney gear, and vintage concert shirts. “People walk in expecting just another Packers store,” Sterling laughs, “and then they realize it’s an everything store.”

We asked Sterling to share some of the most memorable Packers items he’s had in the store over the years. First, he mentioned a pristine 1960s Champion Acme sweatshirt in nearly brand-new condition. Then, he called out Aaron Jones’ merch line. “He was gracious enough to have us be the only local retailer of his collection. It was a really cool thing for him to trust a small business like ours to do him right.”

Lawton Gallery

“All the things we carry come from prior time periods that bring people fond memories,” Alex says. “Whether it’s a Packers shirt, a childhood movie collectible, or something you didn’t even know you missed, there’s always that moment of recognition.”

One of their most intriguing finds is a bag said to have belonged to Vince Lombardi. This piece perfectly embodies the spirit of Mañana Vintage, where legends and everyday life intersect.

In addition to their love of nostalgia, Al and Alex are passionate about promoting sustainability and slow fashion. “When you buy vintage, you’re buying a garment and its history,” says Al. “These pieces have already lasted the test of time and have lots of years left in them yet.”

Dive Bars of Green Bay: Unpolished Gems

In Green Bay, dive bars are more than just casual watering holes. They are living pieces of local history, neighborhood gathering spots, and places where the city’s character really shines. These no-frills establishments reflect the working-class heart of the region, where stories are shared, friendships are forged, and the sense of community runs deep.

What Is a Dive Bar—And Why They Matter Here

A “dive bar” might conjure images of dated decor, neon beer signs, and well-worn booths. That’s part of the charm. The term started in the late 1800s to describe modest, often basementlevel taverns. Dive bars were places where regular people gathered without pretense. They weren’t about trends or craft cocktails, they were about community and familiarity.

In Green Bay, this tradition has taken root alongside the city’s long social history. As breweries and taverns blossomed with waves of immigrants in the 19th and 20th centuries, neighborhood bars became central to social life. They became places to unwind after a day’s labor, catch up on local news, or simply sit among familiar faces. They were Green Bay’s first social media platform. This enduring culture lives on in dive bars across the region today.

What to Expect When You Visit

Visiting a dive bar in Green Bay isn’t about luxury; it’s about character. Expect warm, unpretentious spaces where regulars are known by name and visitors are welcomed with open arms and a cold beer. Décor often echoes decades of local stories with a mix of vintage signage, memorabilia, and comfortable imperfections that become part of the experience. Music, conversation, games like pool or darts, and bartenders who’ve heard every kind of tale are all part of the scene.

You might hear a local legend, learn where to find the best fish fry, or end up sharing a laugh with neighbors who’ve been gathering there for years. It’s social history you can feel as soon as you step inside.

Dive Bars That Tell a Local Story

Walk into a Green Bay dive bar, and you’ll quickly see why locals love them. These spots are full of personality. You might hear dice rolling for “shake of the day,” catch someone cheering over a lucky pull tab win, or spot shelves of well-loved bar merch with inside jokes only regulars truly get. And while the atmosphere is relaxed and unpolished in the best way, many of these places serve surprisingly great food too, from juicy burgers and crispy wings to classic Wisconsin pizza that hits the spot. It’s all part of what makes them special: welcoming spaces where people gather, unwind, and feel connected to the community. To find more of these one-of-a-kind neighborhood taverns, check out greenbay.com and start exploring.

Why Dive Bars Still Thrive Here

In a world of polished lounges and trendy hotspots, dive bars stand out because they are unapologetically themselves. They represent decades of local life, echoing the rhythms of everyday work and leisure in Green Bay. Whether they grew up alongside the city’s breweries or emerged in neighborhoods as gathering places for long shifts and long friendships, these bars carry stories you won’t find in guidebooks.

BOOYAH — A Green Bay

If there’s one dish that captures the spirit of community, comfort, and culinary tradition in northeastern Wisconsin, it’s booyah. A rich, slow-simmered stew that’s as much a cultural gathering as it is a meal. Pronounced “BOO-ya,” this hearty dish has become a symbol of Green Bay’s regional identity and a must-try experience for anyone exploring our vibrant food scene.

A Taste of Heritage: How Booyah Came to Green Bay

The story of booyah begins long before it simmered its way into community events and restaurant menus. In the mid-1800s, French-speaking Belgian immigrants from the Walloon region settled in northeastern Wisconsin, drawn by the promise of farmland and a new life. These settlers brought with them culinary traditions built around shared meals and hearty ingredients.

While the exact origins of the word booyah remain a bit playful (some say it evolved from the French bouillon or the Walloon word bouyu, both meaning broth), the spirit of the dish is clear: it was born out of community and necessity. Families and neighbors would contribute ingredients like meats, vegetables, and seasonings into massive kettles, cooking for hours over open fires so that everyone could share in the bounty.

Tradition

More Than a Soup: Booyah and Community

In Green Bay booyah became more than a recipe; it has became an event. Town harvest festivals, church fundraisers, school picnics, and fall gatherings often revolved around boiling a huge pot of the savory stew. These events were about more than food. They were social occasions where families, friends, and neighbors connected over steam-rising kettles and shared bowls.

Here, booyah is both a noun and a verb: you go to a booyah to eat booyah. Its preparation is a labor of love, sometimes requiring more than a day of slow simmering and that effort is part of what makes each bowl meaningful.

The Flavorful Tradition Today

Although booyah was once served almost exclusively at community events and large gatherings, today you can find it in restaurants and local kitchens across Green Bay. Here are some great spots to enjoy a warm bowl:

The Booyah Shed – As its name suggests, this local favorite specializes in booyah alongside other comfort classics. Known for its friendly atmosphere and rich, slow-cooked stew, it’s a must-try for first-timers and longtime fans alike right here in Green Bay. booyahshed.com

At 1919 Kitchen & Tap at Lambeau Field – Visitors can enjoy Grandpa Shorty’s Booyah, a comforting bowl of slow-cooked chicken and oxtail with hearty root vegetables that celebrates the classic Green Bay stew.

The Rite Place – A beloved family restaurant where booyah has earned a regular spot on the menu, perfect for a hearty lunch or dinner.

Kroll’s West – Classic Wisconsin fare and a traditional booyah make this Stadium District spot a great stop while exploring nearby attractions.

Souper Day at The Revolution Market – While booyah isn’t always on the daily menu, this local soup destination sometimes stocks it in take-home portions and is worth checking for seasonal offerings.

A Dish That Brings People Together

What makes booyah truly special isn’t just the savory broth or the medley of vegetables and tender meats, it’s the way it brings people together. Whether ladled out at a fall festival, served up in a cozy local restaurant, or shared among friends at a backyard gathering, booyah is a celebration of community and history.

For visitors to Green Bay, a bowl of booyah offers more than great flavor. It’s a taste of the region’s heritage and a warm welcome from the community. So pull up a chair, grab a spoon, and join us for a tradition that’s as comforting as it is delicious.

The historical story of Oneida continues to evolve as visitors explore each log home and the different eras they represent. One unique log home feature includes Oneida Designer Carter King’s re-creation of Indian boarding school clothing from the late 1800s. Oneida children had attended the Oneida Boarding School on the Oneida reservation until 1912.

Green Bay is for Everyone: Accessible and Inclusive Playgrounds

Green Bay offers remarkable spaces for children, families, and visitors to play, learn, and grow, including accessible and inclusive playgrounds. These playgrounds are designed for children with a wide range of abilities, providing wider pathways, ramps, adaptive equipment, and soft, durable surfaces to ensure safety while encouraging social interaction.

Here are some great playgrounds to check out if your family needs a little playtime while you’re visiting Green Bay:

Marilyn’s Oasis at Bay Beach Amusement Park

1313 Bay Beach Road

Marilyn’s Oasis is Green Bay’s first all-inclusive playground, featuring two interactive areas. The 5–12 play space includes slides, tunnels, a playhouse, and ramps, while the Tot Lot offers Braille and sensory panels, a roller slide, and tunnels. Here are just a few of the other highlights that will trigger your kids’ imaginations:

• Orb Rocker: Collaborate and work as a team to interact with this rocking device, which combines physical movement and sensory elements like sound and color.

• Inclusive Orbit: A gentle spinning structure that is flush to the surface of the playground, allowing easy wheelchair accessibility.

• Innova Rocker: A rocking platform that provides an opportunity for kids to develop and fine-tune balance and coordination skills.

• Brava Universal Swing: An innovative swing that redefines engagement by allowing children to move using their legs, arms, or core.

Miracle Field

1650 Libal Street

Miracle Field is a well-maintained park that features picnic tables and plenty of shade. The ramped playground has rubber surfacing and paved walkways, making it easy to navigate on foot or wheels. The playground features a

saucer swing, wheelchair-accessible gliders and rockers, and musical and tactile elements to encourage imagination and exploration.

Robert Cloud Memorial Playground

2801 S. Webster Avenue

Burn off some energy at this spacious, fully fenced playground with separate areas for different age groups. The rubber safety surface is smooth enough for a wheelchair, and the playground features swings with back supports, sound-play components, and panels for visually-impaired guests. This playground is open to the public on evenings after 5:30 p.m. and on weekends.

Pamperin Park

2801 County Road RK

Pamperin Park is the largest developed park in the Brown County Park System. The massive 17,000-square-foot playground has ramps, an inclusive merry-go-round, music elements, egg-shaped chairs, a multi-age swing, wheelchairfriendly gliders, and so much more. Plus, the partial rubber surface is wheelchair-friendly and resilient enough to cushion a fall.

Optimist Park

1680 Libal Street

Optimist Park (also called the Farve Family Miracle Recreation Area) is a large park featuring a baseball diamond, which is home to the Miracle League. The park also has paved walking paths, a covered shelter with bathrooms, and plenty of benches and tables for picnics! The all-inclusive playground has a rubber surface and lots of options for kids of all ages.
