Kaura

This is Kaura: A Balinese Village Retreat Rooted in Culture and Connection
Tucked into the hillside of East Bali, Kaura Bali invites you to reconnect with nature, with community, and with yourself.
Our nine-hectare retreat rests gently above a lush jungle valley in the tranquil village of Manggis, surrounded by rice paddies, winding jungle paths, and sweeping views of the Indian Ocean. More than a resort, Kaura is a living, breathing community.
Built in collaboration with the villagers, each element of Kaura tells a story of heritage, sustainability, and shared prosperity. Whether you are harvesting rice, sharing meals around the fire, or simply soaking in the stillness from your private pavilion, every moment here offers space for presence and purpose.

Immersive Experiences at Kaura
Every one of our experiences is an invitation to slow down and connect with the beauty of Bali, and the people who call it home.
The Manggis community welcomes you into their daily rhythm, where time is marked by the planting of rice, the giving of offerings, and the telling of stories passed down through generations. These moments are not staged; they are shared, creating space for genuine connection and cultural understanding.
Whether you are learning a traditional skill, joining in a village celebration, or simply sitting by the fire swapping tales, each encounter connects to the living heritage of this place. This is the joy of slow travel, where memories are shaped by the depth of the relationships we make.
Village Orientation Walk
Step into the daily rhythms of Manggis on this leisurely guided walk through the village. Wander past rice paddies, meet local artisans, and witness traditional farming practices that have sustained families for generations. With a local guide leading the way, every path tells a story of heritage, resilience, and connection. Uncover the stories that built Kaura.
Cyling from Village to Beach
Ride through East Bali’s picturesque countryside on an e-bike, weaving through quiet villages, rice terraces, and winding coastal roads. Along the way, you’ll explore hidden paths, meet local craftspeople, hear untold stories, and arrive at one of Bali’s most breathtaking beaches, where the sea breeze and golden sands invite you to hang out for longer.
Farm to Table Cooking Classes
Join village matriarchs in the newly renovated outdoor kitchen next to our Community Hub to prepare and share beloved local dishes. The menu changes with the seasons and availability of fresh produce grown in our fields. Every cooking class offers you a true taste of Balinese warmth, story, and spice. The best part? Sitting down together to enjoy the feast you’ve created.

A Tribute to a Visionary Leader’s Legacy
Discova set up the Eileen Yee Educational Fund to honour the legacy of our incredible colleague and friend who unexpectedly passed away in 2024. As General Manager of our Education Travel business, Eileen knew firsthand about the numerous barriers faced by students (especially girls) in Asia to complete their high school education.
Since June 2024, thanks to the generosity of our partners’ donations, Discova has been providing financial assistance through this Fund to students across our destinations. This support has enabled these young minds to reach adulthood with a quality education that allows them to pursue a broad range of life opportunities.
Our Mission to Empower Futures
The Eileen Yee Educational Fund provides financial support to disadvantaged high school students in communities where Discova has grassroots connections. In the first phase of this project (2024-2026), we aim to financially assist 101 students, empowering them to complete their education. As Discova’s network and community reach grow, we will also expand the Fund’s support to include additional students, with a focus on communities in need, ensuring that more children benefit from quality education.
How It Works
The Fund will provide financial assistance to students, enabling them to successfully complete their three-year high school education. For as little as USD 300 per year, students can receive access to all the materials and equipment they need for school, including a bicycle, a backpack, a uniform, and all the stationery they require for their studies.
What Does Your Donation Support?
Your donation will cover essential non-tuition expenses that hinder education, varying by country. In Indonesia, it might fund books and uniforms; in Vietnam, transport and meal allowances; and in Thailand, resources for university admission or life-skills learning. This ensures that students

Community Development Projects
Our community development projects are entirely and exclusively run by our Educational Travel team, addressing a range of socio-cultural, environmental, and economic challenges in grassroots communities across our destinations.
In 2025, we remain committed to continually supporting, empowering, and uplifting the communities we work with while delivering transformational educational experiences and expanding our travel offerings to include leisure travel and corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Mai Chau, Vietnam
Located in Hoa Binh’s karst valleys, Mai Chau is a predominantly Thái ethnic commune which traces ancestral roots to 8th–10th-century migrations from southern China. Despite enduring poverty and youth outmigration over the years, their agrarian traditions – stilt villages, silk weaving, culinary rituals, dance and music performances, and spiritual practices – offer untapped potential for culturally-rooted guest experiences while supporting the needs and interests of the local community.
Kok Na Sai, Thailand
Nestled in the heart of the country’s farming region, the community in Kok Na Sai traces its roots back to immigrants from Vientiane, Laos, who arrived nearly a hundred years ago. They brought rich rice cultivation and farming traditions, preserving age-old practices and year-round ceremonies while adapting to modern life. To alleviate poverty and create employment opportunities for residents, we aim to leverage these resources by offering visitors an authentic experience of rural Thai life.
