History and Heritage Unearthed in KL
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Private & Shared | Half-Day | History & Heritage
In sync with traditions that have stood the test of time, Kuala Lumpur has a distinctive cultural pride flowing through its districts and hubs. Once a British colony, the capital of Malaysia has developed at a rapid pace and yet held on to its diverse heritage, with residents of various religions and ethnicities living in perfect harmony. This 3.5-hour deep dive into multicultural Kuala Lumpur, will help you discover this booming yet charming metropolis in brand new light.
Heritage walks are enjoyed best when an expert guide helps you to uncover the many layers of a brand-new city. And it’s good to start a story at the very beginning and in this case, at Medan Pasar, the last remaining threestory colonial shophouse which still stands tall. From here, the leisurely walk to the Central Market, a historical landmark from the British era, marks yet another cultural trophy where the hustle and bustle of trading never ceases to amaze visitors.
From here, the journey from history to spirituality is merely a stone’s throw away. Quite hidden and often overlooked for reasons unknown, the Sze Ya Temple is of immense importance to the locals. On our path through the religious realm, we also stop to admire the immaculate and colourful architecture of Sri Maha Mariamman Temple.
After a short train ride, we arrive at Brickfields. Once a hub for brickworks, it has transformed into Little India, a vibrant enclave of flavours and colours. Following the lively main street towards the Buddhist Maha Vihara temple, we get to experience the heart of Little India in all its glory.
To round off this cultural exploration, a gastronomical stop is a given. We have chosen a pay-as-you-wish restaurant near the temple, famous for its vegetarian meals. A delicious finale to your cultural adventure before returning to your hotel.
