KL’s Urban Charm, The Culinary Way

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Private & Shared | Half-Day | Food

Every evening, the waft of a simmering curry or a grilling satay fills the Kuala Lumpur air as daytime office hour rush trade places with leisurely meetups with friends and colleagues after dusk. Malaysia’s capital city is now takes on a new persona where good food sets the tone for the night. Tantalising from start to finish, the ultimate charm of Malaysia’s capital comes in the form of highly reputable food courts and street-side eateries operated by second and third-generation immigrant families. Using public transport and walking from the modern to the authentic side of town makes this one of our sustainable touring options, focusing on supporting the local community.

Embark on a culinary adventure through the vibrant streets of Kuala Lumpur, starting at a central meeting point. Our first stop is an institution in the world of food courts, a basement-located establishment renowned for its fine Malaysian cuisine. Here, the proprietors handpick the stall owners, ensuring only the best culinary experiences are served.

No food tour is complete without Cendol, Malaysia’s signature shaved ice dessert. This first cold treat will give you a pandan/coconut flavoured sweet respite from the tropical heat before a trip to Chinatown by MRT.

Immerse yourself in the local culture with a visit to the Sri Maha Temple, the city’s main Hindu temple, an important place of worship for the Indian community. Then, stroll through the streets to a local restaurant specialising in making roti canai, a popular local dish. Afterwards, indulge in beef meatballs served in hot soup at a decades-old restaurant. Complete your cultural experience with a visit to a vintage grocery store selling local childhood snacks, a nostalgic treat for many.

We round the evening off with claypot chicken rice, prepped over a charcoal fire just like the old days. We end the tour with a handcrafted tea that aids digestion after a big meal in an easy-to-miss Chinese shophouse. This happening evening ends with a train ride back to Bukit Bintang MRT Station or further enjoying the KL nightlife.
