Ho Chi Minh City - The Story of Saigon

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Shared | Half-Day | History & Heritage

As an urban metropolis and the most populous city in Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City doesn’t immediately strike a visitor as a historic place which has lived through colonisation, invasions and even a war in the last fifty years. This half-day tour is an immersive experience opening your eyes to the Saigon of yesteryears and how it continues to survive and thrive amid the modern cityscape.

We start the day by visiting Reunification Palace, once a symbol of the South Vietnamese Government. Then, continue to the Central Post Office, designed, and constructed by the famed French architect, Gustave Eiffel, and send out a postcard from this historic building!

Just behind the post office is the Notre Dame Cathedral, an iconic landmark built in neo-Romanesque style by the French between 1863 and 1880. Next, stroll down Dong Khoi Street, which is featured in Graham Greene’s famous Vietnam novel, The Quiet American.

At the War Remnants Museum, your guide will tell you the story of the city’s darkest and most tragic hours during the Vietnam War. Your final stop is a hidden place, where you will learn about residents’ daily lives during the war. End your memorable tour with a drink at the top of the Rex Hotel, which was built in the early 20th century.
