Shared | Half-Day | History & Heritage
The vast UNESCO World Heritage site of Angkor has long been emblematic of Cambodia’s incredibly rich culture and history. Needless to say, no trip to Cambodia is complete without setting one’s eyes on the breathtaking scale and beauty of this temple complex. This half-day tour is a perfect introduction to the iconic temples of Angkor Wat, Bayon, and Ta Prohm, which were constructed between the 9th and 15th century, harking back to the artistic flair and prosperity of the Khmer Empire.
First, we see Angkor Wat, the crown jewel of the Angkor complex which is dedicated to the Hindu God Vishnu with its architecture depicting tales from Hindu mythology. Bayon is next, a distinct temple whose towers are adorned with 216 smiling faces of God Brahma. This temple is considered as one of the most striking examples of baroque Khmer architecture as opposed to the classical style of Angkor Wat.
Conclude your tour at Ta Prohm, popularly called the ‘Tomb Raider Temple’ (after the 2000 Angelina Jolie film of the same name which was shot in its premises), where ancient walls and towers are engulfed by towering trees and giant roots, making the place appear atmospheric and slightly eerie at the same time.
